Those of you who don’t live in my television market should consider yourselves very lucky. These campaign ads are getting really unbearable, and it appears that the people who are bankrolling creepy Doug Hoffman have a lot of money left to spend. In 45 minutes of watching the morning news, I’ve now seen about 20 Hoffman ads – to maybe 8 for Owens. And Hoffman’s are the really nasty annoying kind, too. There’s also one still running about Dede Scozzafava. It’s one of those interesting ones, saying that Dede is the choice for “true progressives,” because she favors abortion and gay marriage. Of course, in the teeny-tiny print, you see it was sponsored by “Common Sense America,” whose board chairman happens to also be the Executive Director of the National Organization for Marriage (an anti-gay group that featured Dougie-boy on its website). It also appears that CSA paid NOM $166,000 for some unspecified reason. But then it looks like the CSA ad was actually paid for by a donor for the Club for Growth, which is another right-wing group (one that wants to privatize Social Security – ‘cuz the stock market is so great, I guess – among other things) that’s running anti-Owens ads, too. At any rate, I’ll be glad when this is all over, though if this weekend poll is accurate (or even close), things don’t look good for Owens.
Otherwise, I’m up early this morning, thanks to the fact that I’ve been unable to explain to the dogs that we set the clocks back the other night. Once they get me out of bed, go outside, and get their breakfast cookies, they seem content to sleep on the couch next to me. It’s time for my annual plea for Congress to enact what I call the “Daylight Preservation Act.”
Now, I know that some people seem to like daylight in the morning and during working hours, and for some reason prefer it to having daylight when it counts – after I get out of work. As misguided as I believe these people are, I acknowledge their right to be wrong. So, in the spirit of compromise, here’s my solution. Every morning at 2 AM, we turn the clocks back an hour (or two; I’m flexible. In fact, I’d be willing to support a plan that adjusts clocks by one hour during the spring and summer months, and by two hours in the fall and winter). This will give us extra daylight in the morning, and make the kids safe at the bus stop and whatnot. Then, at 2PM, we set the clocks ahead again. This would give us some extra daylight in the evening.
Everybody wins.
Sometimes the simple solutions are the most elegant.
I will vote against proposal No. 2, tomorrow. that’s the proposal to allow prisoners to perform work for not for profits. I do not want prisoners to take jobs from worker s and I believe that is what will happen.
I fear that the definition of not for profit will soon come to include municipal services. How about religious organizations? And, who will choose which organizations receive this free help?
It seems like a bad idea to me.
Vote for the Top Talkers of 2009
It is that time of the year. Time to cast your vote for the “LTR Top Talker of 2009.”
It works the same as last year. Check out the poll in the middle column. You will see 40 or so personalities and/or shows listed on the ballot. To make things a bit more interesting this time around, I have added a few television personalities to the mix of typically radio, webcast and podcast personalities, seeing as much of the attention has been paid to the boob tube as of late.
The other names were all picked from the listings in the center column, and consist of all the entrants from last year that still maintain some sort of regular broadcast/webcast/podcast presence. They include some newer shows (Air America has added several this year) and a few local personalities. The names are all listed alphabetically.
If anyone’s interested.
I think the ultimatae gaol Sue ids to have all labor come from prisons. That’s why we build so many of them.
Siena College poll: Hoffman Leads Owens 41-36%; Undecided up to 18%
When told the reason for daylight saving time, the old indian said, “Only the governemnt would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.”
Hey you guys. I’m not lost, just weary of politics right now. I can’t seem to muster the rage I used to feel. And I know there is plenty to rage about. I am submerged in farming, I have a lot to learn.
How about in the short daylight hours of the fall and winter when 1 PM rolls around every day the clock jumps to 3 PM so 5 PM comes two hours earlier? This would also be very cool if your lunch hour was noon to 1.
Hi, KP. I was wondering how you were doing.
The reason I like going back to standard time is because I hate to get up and go to work in the dark. Besides, it’s dangerous for the kiddies to walk to school in the dark and totally depressing for their teachers to have to greet them when it’s dark. Teachers should never see elementary students except in the light of day.
So, here’s the solution: Start the workday when it is daylight and end it before it gets dark, except in the summer when the shorter hours should apply anyway.

Living in the land of McCain, Kyl and Sheriff Joe, I would be weary too. So have one of these!
:40:
Actually, I’ll be having several of these :40: tonight. They announced at work today that there will be layoffs over the course of the next year as more work is outsourced to India. Fortunately for me, I found out about an hour ago that I dodged the bullet, but many of my colleagues won’t be as lucky.
You’d think they could at least outsource Freida Pinto to Florida in return. :hubba:
Finished up the last of the canvassing, unless we do some last minute stuff tomorrow, so I think I’m going to :40:
Hey Kev, I’m already :40: Sheriff Aaaarrrghpaio is still picking on Mexicans, to the point that they don’t openly display El Dia De Los Muertos decorations so much anymore. :reaper:
Wow, I’m not selling out, I’m buying in.
:40:
Elect Andy!

Hey, KP — Good to see ya again! :yippee:
Love the story about the Old Indian & the blanket — those folks totally have a handle on the True Nature of Reality!! :yinyang: :omg:
My liberal confession is that I haven’t been following Jeff Farias lately (although he is in my i-Tunes download queue). Has Joe from Tempe learned to STFU yet?
Too much bad shit going on up here in the Empire State — interesting that they named it the “empire” state & the more I think about it, the less I like it & the more I undertand what a really, really, really, REALLY bad thing “empire” is — is it a conflation to say “empire” = Wall Street??? In New York State, I think not. 😮
But, what do I know?
