First off, sorry to hear the Parkside Democrats were shut out last night. If it’s any consolation, SU managed to lose to its Division II neighbor LeMoyne last night. Truly shameful. Nice going guys – way to waste my Three Philosophers buzz. Praise Allah it was just an exhibition game. In other news, a huge loss for the Teabag crowd, as Bill Owens took down the asshole Doug Hoffman by about 4%. A wingut with a truckload of wingnut money couldn’t win in a solidly Republican district. Good deal. Syracuse elected its first-ever female mayor last night, as Stephanie Miner won handily. Though turnout was less than 30%. WTF is up with people? The news was not so bright in NJ and VA, unfortunately, as Republicans took both statehouses. Despite the fact that these are just state races, and, in the one national race, a district that’s been Republican since, like, the 1800’s, this is being hailed as a “big night” for the GOP and a referendum on Obama by the traditional media.
You gotta believe all the corruption and arrests of public officials in NJ earlier this year led to a pretty big anti-incumbent mood there, and was at least partly responsible for Corzine’s loss. As for VA? Well, there’s a reason Richmond (and then Danville) was the capital of the Confederacy. Other state’s Governors don’t really affect my life, anyway, and I had no plans to visit either NJ or VA.
In my Town races…. It appears they lost the votes, ‘cuz I can’t find any results whatsofrickinever. Must be those damn lever machines.
Don’t forget poor NYC’s Gloomy Bloomy who had to rework his victory speech to remove the hubris. His big blowout and personal millions only led to a squeaker. Perhaps the Dems will put up a real candidate, who actually campaigns, next time.
To be fair, Bloomy’s gazillions scared a lot of good people out of the race.
So, how many terms does a term-limited mayor get to run for down that way? Up here, our term-limited mayor was actually prohibited from running for another term. It’s part of our provincialism (or is it parochialism), I guess
Anyhow, I’m sure Bloomberg’s win was a terrible blow to Obama and the Democrats. From what they were saying on the Today Show this morning, I doubt Obama will even be able to finish the rest of his term, after the crushing defeats he personally suffered in NJ and VA.
I was just scoping out the NYS Congressional delegation. We have 29 Congressional Districts. After last night, it consists of 27 Democrats, and 2 Republicans. Since we have a census coming up next year (and we’ll probably lose at least one of those districts), it’s time dump the 27th (currently represented by a Republican), an spread it out between the current 26th, 28th, and 29th. Then we need to gerrymander the 3rd, and put Peter King out to pasture.
I don’t think we heard much about it but the people being elected now in state gubments will have an impact on gerrymandering after the census. I am a little disappointed in O’Bama and the Dems not getting the message across to the bandwagon that this ‘change’ is an every day grind and just about everything matters.
Oops. Sorry for the blank.
:reaper:
The Colorado ski town of Breckenridge has voted overwhelmingly to legalize marijuana.
Early returns Tuesday night showed the proposal winning with 72 percent of the vote. The measure would allow adults over 21 to have up to 1 ounce of marijuana.

NYC voters approved 2 year term limits for executive offices and the City Council. Term limits were put to a vote again, and again they passed. The movement was bankrolled by Estee Lauder who really wanted to get those Dems out of office so that more Rethugs could win.
Giuliani was the first mayor to be affected by term limits. After 9/11 he tried to convince the council and voters to allow him to stay another few months because, of course, only he could run the city. That failed.
Bloomberg was elected and for 2 terms he swore term limits were great and besides the voters had spoken. Then his second term was up and he decided only he could run the city.
Estee Lauder also decided he liked Bloomberg and thus would not fund a term limits campaign. ( I love it when the gazillionaire decides for whom we can vote.)
They couldn’t put extending term limits to a vote because they knew they would lose. The Council was also balking at passing a law that would negate term limits. So, Bloomy said lets give the council and the mayor 3 terms, but only this once, and the council went along, passing a law to undo term limits for this election only.
The next mayor gets 2 terms unless he is a Rethug, in which case Estee will agree to save his bucks and the City Council decides its members want more time.
Many of those council members were re-elected, but in every race where term limits were an issue, the incumbent lost.
And, to think, I voted against term limits.
I think it’s time to move to Breckenridge.
Weird. The father’s name on my birth certificate isn’t mine, biologically, I think. At least that’s what I was told my entire life. Someone may read that certificate and assume it to be true, though.
A little moment of honesty for you. For free.
So, if you, whoever you are, feel it necessary to give the number of where I’m staying to someone whom I feel I don’t ever want to talk with again, please ask me before you do so.
back to cartoons
Oops… that wasn’t PG-13
MYOB is a fine philosophy.

Hey, when chains, sprockets and cogs are turning around me, I’d like to now wtf is going on so I don’t get crushed.
I’ve been able to infer a whole heck of a lot, though.
should have been a motorcycle mechanic…
DK has a collection of Fox clips from NY 23.
There must not have really been an election in the 23rd because NBC didn’t say a word about it. Brian Williams is the godhead of truth :fu: :fustrate:
I think we should all meet up in Breckenridge for a MS confab :bong:
