I was considering going in to work today, just to bank the day to use later. But, well, screw that idea. Never pass up an opportunity to take a day off.
It’s starting look like a Republican is going to win Teddy Kennedy’s Senate seat. What’s up with you people in MA? I think Obama has done the political equivalent of what Bush did after 9/11. So much good will squandered so quickly. Pretty amazing. So much for health care reform.
The two biggest big news stories of the weekend were the Golden Globe Awards and Michelle Obama’s birthday (oh, and something’s going on down in Haiti, too). Much to Marc Maron’s chagrin, I guess, Avatar won Golden Globes for best movie drama and best director. I haven’t seen it, myself, but Marc doesn’t approve of the movie on the grounds that it cost too much to make, and that all that technology is just a waste of money. Quite true. I also wonder why they spend so much money on color film, sound, and multiple cameras. Not to mention paying the actors so much money.
Sportswise, it was a pretty good weekend. On Saturday, #5 SU traveled to #9 West Virginia and (though they decided to throw away a 10 point lead with less than 2 minutes to go and make things interesting) beat the Mountaineers in the first showdown between 2 top-ten teams in Morgantown ever. Then, on Sunday, the Jets beat San Diego. Plus the Vikings kicked the shit out of Dallas (rubbed their noses in it, big time). I’m not especially a Minnesota fan (don’t dislike them, either – who can dislike Minnesota?), but I despise the Cowboys, and love to see them not only lose, but get embarrassed. Plus, while I’ve never really been a Brett Favre fan, you have to like seeing an old guy do well (kinda like John Elway, who I never really liked until he got old and won a Super Bowl).
Oh well, time to start the ML King festivities.
(just because it can’t be said enough.)
I liked Elway, but maybe because I watched him play at Stanford. I always wished he had chosen baseball instead of football, though.
I wish that Elway had just played baseball, too. He would have started as a Yankee as I remember.
football and politics on a monday morning.
i can see you’re a traditionalist. about the only thing i’m interested in any more is individual people
I felt sad for my niece (an individual person) because her Cowboys lost but I had to go with the Vicodings even though I really dislike Favre and hope he gets pasted in the Dome next week. Since I know a few good friends who are vehement Jet fans and I also don’t like any form of Manning, it would be nice if they too would make it to the Super Bowl. Saints and Jets and The Who Dat at halftime. I never get what I want.
Nice win against the Mountaineers, pj.
Meanwhile, I want to see Crazy Heart. I had to burn a screening pass before xmas but hope to catch it soon.
🙁
Watching Morning Joe online right now and they are already dancing on O’Bama’s grave, especially over the Coakley race. Scarborough is quietly gleeful and his fluffer Mika is giddy. And they are trying to put Ford on the launching pad.
Sorry to talk about politics. I’ll find something more individual peoply later.
I am feeling much better, but I wasted a nice long week-end feeling crappy (in an individual peoply way, of course) I think that’s a called a very poor use of time.
However, things were interesting in Red Hook. One of my neighbors saw a guy throw a brick through the window of another neighbor, so he emailed everyone on the block and left a phone message on the victim’s answering machine. But, he did not call the police. I am at a loss to explain that.
Fortunately, our potential victim came home in time to call the police himself. Meanwhile, the thief had gone around to the back of the house and had broken another window. The police arrived and were looking around the house when one officer looked into the backyard and saw the thief preparing to throw yet another rock through the window. (The previous hole wasn’t big enough.)
The end was predictable. Thief ran. Cops ran faster. Neighbor emailed us all from the police station where he was waiting to fill out some paperwork.
I believe Morning Joe is where the Harold Ford candidacy was hatched. But, I don’t watch Morning Joe. Getting ready for work is bad enough.
I’m very hopeful that Mr. Ford will fly over Red Hook on his next helicopter ride.
Thanks for the clip Vern. I still carry a bit of a torch for Karen. Very odd day at work, quite a few very upset folks but we managed to trudge through the day.
I’ll never forget Elway helicoptoring into the endzone for a Super Bowl touchdown….,
neither will I ever forget that he appeared at fundraisers here in Denver for Bush…, and never forgive Shannahan for building a 6,000 plus sq ft house, opening another fucking steakhouse (like we needed another fucking steakhouse around here) and being a fucking rich rethuglican. I hope he moves to DC. :tap:
