I think I may move to Kentucky, just to show my support for Jim Bunning, US Senator, Hall of Fame pitcher (not surprisingly, he was a righty), and the USA’s honorary crazy uncle (shown here entering the size of his tallywhacker into the Senate record). Despite his rather apparent senility, KY voters (fun fact, KY is best known for its jelly) returned the Bunster to office back in 2004, where he plays Valentin Arregui to Mitch McConnell’s Luis Molina in Kentucky’s version of Kiss of the Spider Woman (OK, sorry; I realize that’s a pretty obscure reference). His latest feat is not only blocking (repeatedly) unemployment and COBRA extensions for people out of work (which only encourages them to sit on their asses and not look for a job, according to Krazy Jon Kyl of AZ. Question: in poker, does Arizona’s pair of crazy uncles beat Kentucky’s crazy uncle and closet queen?), but at the same time triggering a 21 percent Medicare cut, putting thousands of Federal employees out of work, and killing construction and transportation jobs for tens of thousands of people. Well done, Senator. You’re a credit to your party.
Speaking of a credit to her party, the AFL-CIO is backing Arkansas Lt. Gov Bill Halter’s primary challenge against Blanche Lincoln – pledging at least $3 million to unseat the DINO. Additionally, MoveOn.org and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, among others, raised nearly half a million dollars for Halter in less than 24 hours after he announced his challenge. Getting AFL-CIO backing is huge – not just financially, but for the man and woman power it brings to the race n manning phone banks, handing out literature, and getting out the vote. You’re a traitor, Blanche, and I hope you go down (on Jim Bunning). And I hope in his victory speech over Lincoln, Halter declares: ‘Sic Semper Tyrannis.’
Oh, crap. Time to go to work again.
As this blog started as a place to commiserate around the loss of a favorite radio show, it will take me get awhile to get over the passing of T-Bone Wolk. No more T-Bone on my one and only fave “TV” series

Thanks to Vernon for mentioning his passing the other day. The archives of his acoustic guitar freak-outs along with his seditionist camaraderie will live on.
I don’t have a favorite episode but these are good ones to watch: KT Tunstall, Diane Birch, Company of Thieves, Chuck Prophet, Matt Nathanson, Eli Reed, and the Nick Lowe set that Vernon linked to.
That’s a great link, WHT. A great alternative to Morning Joe but maybe not today. I want to see some crying in the Starbucks over Tennessee Harold Ford (if I can stand Mika’s fluffing and moaning) and their likely energized hyping of a prospective Zuckerman run.
Tennessee Harold wrote a stupid and ungracious and wrong editorial in the NY Times to explain why he’s not running.
He did not include the fact that nobody EXCEPT some party bosses entertained voting for him. He didn’t include his website where he asked people to support his run by signing his petition. He got about 40 signatures. About a 1/3 were out of state and many of those who did sign made up names disparaging to him. The last time I looked all the signers names had been changed to anonymous.
I can’t provide a like to the Ford website because all I get is a “problem loading page” message. I assume he’s taken it down but in case it’s my error here’s the link:

I just watched his segment on Morning Joe and what a fucking pompous insufferable asswhole. Can’t quite figure out what he identified as his base.
Perhaps this is what convinced Mr. Ford to fuggeddaboutit:
In a Marist Poll completed last night, Gillibrand put a little more distance between herself and the former Tennessee Congressman in a hypothetical contest for the nomination. 50% of New York Democratic voters would have backed Gillibrand. 19% reported, however, they would have supported Ford, and labor activist Jonathan Tasini would have taken just 3% of the vote. 28% of Democrats were unsure.
When The Marist Poll last asked this question in early February, 44% of Democrats reported they backed Gillibrand, 27% threw their support behind Ford, and 4% said they were going to cast their ballot for Tasini. 25%, at the time, were unsure.
“Ford’s short-lived challenge to Gillibrand not only did her no harm, it may have even solidified her support among Democrats,†says Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.

Jim Bunning: Former Phillie and current douchebag.
The bones and tusks of the ancient creatures are becoming more prevalent as permafrost thaws. Now entire villages are surviving on the trade in mammoth bones.

One of the most common weed killers in the world, atrazine, causes chemical castration in frogs and could be contributing to a worldwide decline in amphibian populations, a study published Monday showed.
Researchers compared 40 male control frogs with 40 male frogs reared from hatchlings until full sexual maturity, in atrazine concentrations similar to those experienced year-round in areas where the chemical is found.
Ninety percent of the male frogs exposed to atrazine had low testosterone levels, decreased breeding gland size, feminized laryngeal development, suppressed mating behavior, reduced sperm production and decreased fertility.

Political, religious and sexual behaviors may be reflections of intelligence, a new study finds.
Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs. This applied also to sexual exclusivity in men, but not in women. The findings will be published in the March 2010 issue of Social Psychology Quarterly.
