The good news is that I got on the presale list to buy tickets for the upcoming Roger Waters “The Wall” tour for Philly, Buffalo, NYC, Long Island, and Hartford. Great, I thought. Until I found out how much the tickets cost. I was fully prepared to be outraged by (yet pay) prices of $50, maybe even $75. Turns out the good seats cost $440 a pair. And the “cheap” seats go for like $240. And then I’d have to travel (most likely drive to Buffalo, see the show, and then drive back, to both avoid the cost of a hotel, and also because I don’t have anybody who could babysit the dogs). So, no Roger Waters for me. I’m sure it’s an expensive production, and I’d really like to see it, but I’ll just have to wait for the DVD. Even if I wasn’t about to get a 20% pay cut for who knows how long (the answer, Andy, is I don’t know how long it’ll last, because Governor Blinky intends to continue it until the state legislature passes a budget), I just can’t justify that much money to see a show. Bummer.
Once again, Bill Maher insisted on having that schmuck David Frum on his show last night. He’s not only worthless and adds absolutely nothing to the conversation, but it looks like his hair was styled by BP. I expected the woman (whose name escapes me, even though I just watched the show; sorry, that’s what happens when you get old) who was the former Fox VP of something or other to be a typical plastic twit, but she was actually pretty lucid and not annoying.
Bill was kind of annoying when Sarah Silverman was on, I thought. Mostly because he wouldn’t STFU while she was talking.
Big goings on here in town last night, as Stephen Strasburg made his AAA pitching debut in front of close to 14,000 people (on a pretty cold and crappy night), which was the largest crowd to see a game in Syracuse’s 135 years of baseball history. For those keeping score (which would be, like, nobody), he allowed one hit and one walk in six innings (he was on a six inning or 90 pitch limit – and he only threw 65 pitches). I’m not really a baseball fan, but it looks like this kid is gonna be pretty impressive. I think he’s the best pitcher we’ve seen in these parts since Ron Guidry was here. We’ve got him for five or six starts, and then he’s off to DC in early June.
Oh well, it’s a cold, rainy morning here. I guess that gets me out of doing any work outside.
Mornin ol snort!
glad yer gimping along pretty good. too bad on the humongo concert tix price.
i remember seeing the cream with seats right behind ginger baker for $20 for me and my sweetie and thinking that was outrageous price in 1969.
:bong: :blues: :billcat: :bee:
ah, them was the days! (and nights!)
I listened to the local assemblyman, Alessi, last night. He said the assembly and the senate have their budgets and that they were now negotiating the differences. As both assembly and senate are in the hands of the Dems perhaps this will get done soon.
Mayor Giuliani was a big Yankee fan and so he built them a stadium for the minor league Yankees in Staten Island (the most Republican boro of NYC). True to their creative selves they named their team the Staten Island Yankees. He also build a minor league stadium for the Mets in Coney Island, Brooklyn. That team is the Brooklyn Cyclones. I’m not a great sports fan, but I like baseball in reasonable doses. Tickets are $5 and $10 dollars. . I really have had some nice evenings, watching the game and the people screaming as they careen around and down the Cyclone rollercoater which was visible over third base. It is the only thing for which I give that creep any credit.
Of course he also built major league stadiums for the 2 teams because he just loved to spend public money on his pleasures. Fortunately Judy wasn’t a baseball team, ’cause we only had to pick up her tab for 24 hour protection/chauffeur service.
I first learned of Strasburg in this New Yorker article. I’d like to watch him throw.
We have a AAA team in OKC, the RedHawks. We’re going to the stadium tonight to watch the Bedlam match-up, OU vs OSU. The RedHawks are unfortunately affiliated with the Rangers. :billcat: It looks like a cool stadium, though. It’s in Bricktown, which is a pretty neato area. There’s even a water Taxi!
So folks around here can’t figure out if Devon Energy had a stroke of genius or is just the luckiest corporation in the world. It’s headquartered in OK and had just sold that old field to BP. If fact, they just divested themselves of all assets in the Gulf and internationally.
I saw Iron Man 2 on an IMAX screen for 17.50$ at 12:40 am this morning. Medium popcorn was 7.00$.
Was it worth it? I’ve just about had it with the $ I pay to see way over-rated (Avatar) or crappy movies (Up in the Air)
Yepper. I had a good time. Pepper Potts Paltrow and Johansson together. What more could you ask for? :alc:
Had a bit of a headache this morning from staying up too late.
Even Elon Musk made an appearance. Kinda cool, I guess– for all the nerds out there.
The woman on Maher last night (not literally, since she’s over the age of 25) was Alexis something-or-other. I want to say Glick, but I might be having Jiminy Glick visions and confusing myself. I too was shocked to hear someone with the word Fox in their job description actually making sense – usually that’s limited to Seth Macfarlane.
I’m going to cut Maher some slack, though. If I was sitting that close to Sarah Silverman, I would be a babbling idiot too. More than usual, I mean. :hot:
Actually, I was pretty much babbling anyway after the Cavs’ crushing of the Celtics. Apparently LeBron’s elbow is feeling better.
Alexis Glick- not just an empty blonde vessel. She was the first producer (I believe) of the Fox Buisness Channel. She left of her own accord in December 2009. Maybe she was in a room with Beck and saw the light shining through his ears :omg: or noticed the sawdust coming out of Hannity’s nose when he sneezed. :crap:
Stopped at the Ducati shop earlier today. I figure if I don’t die on the fishing boat I’ll be able to afford a bike by the end of September. Sitting on the bike wasn’t painful, but mounting the damn thing was a pain with my bum hip. I’ll on;y have to do that once a ride, though. I’m thinking I’ll get my motorcycle endorsement in a few weeks, and then go for a test ride .
