We are a divided nation. Half the country thinks Obama is a Nigerian commie mooslam who wants to take your guns, money, and women, and give them to Mexicans. The other half of the country thinks Obama is an ineffectual, naive corporatist, selling out to the insurance industry, big pharma, big oil, big banks, and big nukes (by the way, Mr. President, if companies are too corrupt and inept to safely dig a hole in the fucking ground, do you really want them playing with fissionable materials?). The third half of the country, of course, believes Obama can do no wrong, has a secret liberal agenda that he’ll unleash in his second term (yeah, like he’s gonna get a second term), and really, what can he actually accomplish with the Democrats in charge of the House and Senate (can’t wait to see what he does with Republicans running at least one house of Congress – though, I must say, the Democrats might owe the teabaggers a steak dinner at a fancy whites-only restaurant for all their help in keeping Republicans in the minority)?
Although Obama moved with a Bush-like pace (and a Dick Cheney mindset) on the whole underwater oil gusher thingie, his administration has now sprung into action. Which, of course, means he’s created a commission to study it. I don’t know about you, but I feel much better. Plus I hear Toni Morrison is working on a new novel based on the BP oil spill – “Tar Baby 2: This Time It’s Personal.”
Speaking of BP, they’ll be taking a much-needed break this weekend, and will get back to not stopping the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico next Tuesday (must be British Memorial Day is a week earlier than ours; kinda like the opposite of Russian Christmas, I guess). No doubt, the President will be drafting a stern letter, expressing his desire to have them get back to work (which Rand Paul will decry as being un-American and mean).
It’ll be interesting to see how the Texas history books (coming soon to a school near you) cover all this. On the one hand, they’d want to emphasize how bad Obama fucked it all up (maybe even caused it), while still praising deep water oil drilling and the corporate right to rape the Earth in the name of the almighty dollar.
Keith Olbermann mentioned this the other night, and I remember seeing it before. Thanks to the Intertubes, we don’t need to purchase the Tonight Show box set to see it. Thank you, YouTube.
Oh, and John Fund’s an asshole.
Was the clipped clip followed by a Clapper commercial?

AynRand PaulNo, Rand Paul is NOT named after Ayn Rand
That was certainly a question burning up my brain cells. I feel so much better knowing that Randy Randal was not named after Ayn Rand, though he respects her soooo much.
I saw the school play version of The Wizard of Oz, last night. Of course Nina was a very cute munchkin but the play was not quite the original. Somewhere in the middle the Wicked Witch of the West decided to be nice and hoped we’d all accept her greenness.
I’m sure everyone in the audience was willing. I only hope she doesn’t plan to vacation in Arizona where she would certainly have to produce her citizen of Oz papers and a Visa.
This could be good in a :barf: kind of way.
More controversial Rand Paul comments could affect GOP Unity Rally with Senator Mitch McConnell, Trey Grayson

glad the little munchkin did ok, sp!
I hear a lot about these people who think Obama can do no wrong, but I have never seen such an individual or read anything by such an individual, anywhere, have you? I’m thinking it’s an urban legend built by the Grumpy Old People party to mis-characterize anyone who might agree with an Obama policy or two. It’s a way to delegitimatize liberals. Just a thought.
I’ve read a lot of comments at places like TPM by people who get all riled up by any suggestion that Obama isn’t perfect. I have to admit, though, that they seem to be dwindling in numbers as time goes on.
I just hope it doesn’t doom us to a, what? Mitt Romney presidency? Or who does conventional wisdom seem to point to as far as who the 2012 Republican candidate will be?
Not that the world will be around after 2012 anyway, of course.
Oh, and John Fund’s an asshole.
Thank you. By the end of the hour, I wanted to jump into the TV and wipe the smirk off his face myself. Patton Oswalt somewhat made up for it.
I guess I was thinking main stream stuff. But truthfully, i didn’t know they existed at tpm. I’m kinda sheltered. :billcat:
The Tempest Brings Shakespearean Magic to George School Stage
Matthew Forrest, a senior from Oreland, Pennsylvania, plays the role of Prospero. “He can be vengeful towards his enemies yet also caring, especially to his daughter, Miranda,†said Matthew of the play’s protagonist. “Prospero is also a deep thinker, and much of what happens in the play is caused by what Prospero thinks,†he added.
Of his work in the production, Matthew said, “I think that I’ve gained a fuller understanding of acting in Shakespearean theater.†For Matthew, this process included not only learning about classic Shakespearean devices such as asides, but also developing an appreciation of the ways in which actors must work on their lines to learn a play of such complexity.
I think some folks liked Betty Lavette in the past. She has a new album out and NPR has some good stuff on her today.
What if I get an orange paraglider instead of the Volvo, OKat? I’m pretty sure the Duc is a done deal. If I smash my head in the world wouldn’t miss much.
