If you’re reading this, it can only mean one thing: I have the Internet once again. It didn’t happen without a struggle, though. After a very smooth washer/dryer delivery, I waited (and waited, and waited) for the cable guy. I was kind of hoping it would get taken care of early so I could go and buy some of the High Efficiency laundry detergent (have you ever heard of such a thing?) that my new washing machine supposedly requires. My appointment “window” was between noon and 5:00. At about 4:20, they called and said the dude was running late, wouldn’t be there by 5, and could I hang out? Well, duh. So, they (supposedly) were crediting me $20 for my trouble (which doesn’t cover the wasted vacation day, but twenty bucks is twenty bucks). The poor kid (who I’m pretty sure was Lt. Dan Choi, but I figured I shouldn’t ask, and he didn’t tell) didn’t get to my place until almost 6:30. I then helped him trace out the cable and all that (no easy task with the rat’s nest of happy homeowner wiring here), and, as predicted, the work order didn’t include the Internet (nor did it include HD). Lt. Dan was cool, though, and got things straightened out. Then of course there was the hassle with my TV. As I learned about three years ago, my TV requires that the output resolution of a component be set specifically for one it supports. On my DirecTV box, this could be done with a hardware button, but on the cable box, it’s software. So I had to get an old TV, hook the box to that, set the resolution, and then we were good to go. By the time the guy left, it was almost 9:00, and, therefore, I was up too damn late (new remote to figure out, new channel numbers…. Oh, what a pain).
Otherwise, I didn’t follow much on the elections, but here in NYS Chuck, Kirsten, and Andy all won big (but Howie and the Greens got over 50,000 votes, and therefore secured their ballot spot). My Congresscritter is only a couple thousand votes ahead of his teabagger opponent (please, God, no!). Nationally, the Republicans took the House (oh boy, a minimum 2 years of John Boehner), but not the Senate. Russ Feingold lost, but so did Meg Whitman. Prop 19 lost, too (damn you, California! I thought I could count on you).
It occurs to me that it was on this same day back in 2004 that we suffered through the “day after” John Kerry “lost” to the monkey man (Kerry, as you no doubt painfully recall, conceding rather prematurely later on that day). As on that day, I shall now be entering several months of self-imposed news blackout. I’m just gonna hang out and watch my cable TV and surf mindless, innocuous websites.
And go to work, of course, to pay for it all. Which I suppose I ought to get ready to do.
:pup: :cat: :cake: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PJ!!!! :cake: :cat: :pup:

Have a great one, Sandbox Master! Hope you are back on the line. I’m not gonna ask about the pellets.
:pup: :cake: :blues:
heh!
in the middle of all that at least you get another B’day!
best wishes and thanks for blogmastering for us all.
Happy birthday, PJ. :cake:
I’m glad Howie got hid 50,000. I assume Working Families got theirs but I haven’t seen any tallies. I think my congressman on Long Island, Tim Bishop, survived a well financed Republican business man on the right but Peter King a huge Republican jerk survived also.
I read that Boner…forgive me I mean Boehner gave a tearful speech last night. So, we have 2 years of that to look forward to.
Carl Paladino took a baseball bat to his concession speech but failed to hit himself of the head with it.
Barbara Boxer won but Fiorina won’t concede. She’s probably holding out for her “golden parachute.”
And, PJ is back on line.
Oh, golly, thanks everybody. I’m generally don’t make much of the birthday stuff (and, by “not make much,” I of course mean “try to completely ignore”), though I suppose this year I can make note of hitting the half-century mark (somewhat surprised to get to this age, considering my rather misbegotten youth).
Oh, I know, many of you hit 50 years ago and are unimpressed, but it seems rather odd to me. I remember my Dad hitting the big Five-Oh. It’s an age for dads, not for me. I’m just a kid.
Some people deal with their midlife crises by buying Porsches or getting a hot new girlfriend on the side. I can’t afford either, so I quit drinkin’ beer, bought a house that needs a ton of work, am embarking on what is sure to be many months (and dollars) of dental work, and will spend at least part of this day making arrangements for garbage pickup.
Woo-hoo, I sure know how to party.
NEW YORK — Jimmy McMillan says he can’t quit now – the rent is still “too damn high.”
The man who became the breakout star of New York’s race for governor said Wednesday that he got so much support, he has to keep going.
The 63-year-old McMillan became a sensation after a debate in which he repeated his point about New York’s price of living: “The rent is too. Damn. High.”
He received almost 40,000 votes Tuesday in the race won by Democrat Andrew Cuomo.
McMillan is a perennial fringe candidate who has run for governor, Senate and mayor. He has blamed rent prices in part on Jewish landlords and has given conflicting stories on how much he pays.
He says the mayoral race in a few years is a possibility. He says he’s been encouraged to run for president but won’t because he likes President Barack Obama.

:cake: 50 :cake: BlogMeister! :cake: 50 :cake:
hmmm, and why again did you give up beer? I knew you were on pain meds before, are you still dealing with that stuff now that you’re “older?” :billcat:
P.S. :bf: NEWS :bf:
I quit drinkin’ beer because my blood pressure was routinely around 190-200/90-100 range. Since beer was my one true pleasure in life, I figured that had to be what the problem was.
Now it’s down to about 117/73 consistently. So, hopefully no stroke for me.
Wow, that’s great you got it down via a beverage, that’s pretty interesting.
