Tonight is the season finale of Boardwalk Empire, which is too darn bad. With ‘Big Love’ not starting until January, I’m not sure what there is worth watching (never did get into ‘In Treatment.’ I watched it a couple of times and realized I really didn’t give a crap about the characters in it – I’m not allowed to complain, so why should I have to listen to somebody else. Usually I try to give these shows a fair chance, but, I just couldn’t get into it) on HBO for a while. Though ‘Men of a Certain Age’ starts tomorrow, and I like that. Oh well, from the looks of things, I may be spending a lot of time plowing the driveway anyway. Speaking of which….
I, too, am a Boardwalk fan. And I agree with you about In Treatment…. like watching paint dry.
When you wear Elmer Fud on your head and entertain Amanda and Daryl, will you also have on black socks? 😯
Thanks for the Frederica Wilson article, vern. And of course Congress should update their rule to allow women to wear hats indoors. (I’m wearing one in this bloggie house!) That was the rule in 1837, fer sure. Time to tear down that ole glass ceiling in the DC and let women be women.
FYI
There will be some footage coming out of Afghanistan the next few days from other reporters at Goebbels; it’s the boys’s work.
Should have their own story on Night Line next week.
re: Gail Collins’ latest – I see similar stories like that every day. I had one fellow who had heart failure, young man with 4 small kids, and we had to fight to get his Medicaid so he’d be covered. He’s on a transplant list.
Most of my clients have no health care because they are disabled and cannot work, since we’re a country that ties health care to jobs. Then when they do get disability, the law says they must wait 2 years before they’re eligible for Medicare. They only get Medicaid right away if they’re impoverished.
The sick and impaired are treated like crap in this country, this largely “Christian” nation. 😡
They’ve started shooting Treme 2 but it’s not supposed to start until April. I may have to look for the box set to see if there are some extras. I may have to start pursuing Memphis Beat. Since my ‘cable comes to disc’ viewing buddies got HBO to watch that fooking Jets show, I’ll probably be on my own for Boardwalk Empire. NJ can’t resist watching itself.
I am in one of my “this can’t be real” phases. I can’t believe that people are allowed to die while the ultra wealthy fight for tax cuts, not being satisfied that their capital gains income is taxed at a lower rate than earned income. But, the most unreal part is the people who are getting screwed insist that they continue to be so.
Last night I was listening to CSpan (couldn’t sleep) as someone discussed the history of labor. Before the Depression there was some progress and some court setbacks, but it took the Depression to change things.
My mother graduated from college in 1931, during some of the worst of the Depression. There were no teaching jobs. The department store, A&S, was hiring college grads as salespeople and that is where she got a job, helping the wealthy spend their money on the expensive and the frivolous. My father, whom she had not met yet, was using his college degree to get a job as a streetlamp lighter (gas lamps in those days).
Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it…unfortunately.
White socks, of course. Or wool ones. I must say, it’s a bit nippy out there today.
I watched the first season of Battlestar Galactica yesterday.
I’m so looking forward to the season finale of “Boardwalk Empire” especiallly knowing there’s another season to look forward to. When I first heard about it I understood that it was only going to be eight episodes and ‘done’.
While I praise Martin Scorcese for getting this on the air and especially my appreciation for Steve Buschemi for being one of the most versatile actors of this generation, I need to underline the one-dimensional ‘acting’ of the most over-rated actor of any generation, the Godfather himself who has never played anything as more than one degree of seperation from Robert Dinero who embarassed himself again last night on SNL. :barf:
