We got a “survey” in the mail yesterday about “Obamacare.” Actually, my wife did, but she said I could fill it out. As expected, it turned out to be some kind of anti-abortion and anti-Planned Parenthood propaganda from some chick named Judie Brown (who I think used to be an MTV VJ or something) demanding money. Fortunately, Judie (who I feel compelled to mention appears to be a woman – just sayin’) included a SASE, so I was able to thank her for bringing this to our attention, and tell her that I would be making contributions to both NARAL and Planned Parenthood (which, I assured her, I would never had done had her kind mailing not motivated me), and would work diligently to expand “Obamacare” until it included government single payer healthcare for all – including health care for women that included respect for their reproductive rights. I also thanked her for her letter, which helps to put things in perspective for me.
As disenchanted as I am with President Obama, I explained, being reminded that there are batshit crazy mouth-breathing morons like her (and, most especially, anyone who give the likes of her their hard-earned money while wailing about “big government” running their lives and taking away their personal freedoms) out there makes me realize that even a spineless, DINO Republican-lite is way better. Hopefully that’ll be cool with her, and I eagerly await her reply. Hopefully it will come with another SASE, as I would love to help her group utilize at least a small part of its financial resources. Since the “survey” assured me that my response would be provided to Congress, I look forward to having my voice heard.
I then made a request of her, asking if it’d be OK to use her group’s mail permit number, so that I could spread the word far and wide. I even promised to present her point of view honestly
Happy Birthday to Violet, who is 4 years old today – thanks to the fact that there was no Obamacare 4 years ago, I guess. And hopefully she’ll be able to live a long, healthy life – assuming that people like Judie Brown never get their hands on her right to health care and privacy.
Violet is 4? Tempus fugit. Happy birthday to her.
One of my favorite stories about the Texas State Legislature involves the time Senator Wendy Davis was trying to ask a colleague, Troy Fraser, some questions about a pending bill. Fraser deflected by saying, “I have trouble hearing women’s voices.â€
Really, she was standing right there on the floor. Holding a microphone.
These days in the budget-strapped, Tea-Party-besieged State Capitol, you can be grateful for any funny anecdote, no matter how badly it reflects on Texas politics in general. Like the time Gov. Rick Perry defended the state’s abstinence-only birth control program by saying that he knew abstinence worked “from my own personal life.

In case you aren’t just funning us, pj, It was Downtown Julie Brown.
I can see where you might think she could be the MTV version of Victoria Jackson.
Yeah, I think it’s actually Dame Judie Brown.
Tempus definitley fugit. In fact, now that I’m on the downhill side of the roller coaster, it’s startin’ to fugit like a matris concubitus.
Just when you thought Gov. Andy was worthless, he does something really important, like proclaim April “Dig Safely Month.”
I was reading the April 10 edition of the NYT yesterday and read this.
Mario Cuomo Still Believes
By MATT BAI

When it comes to spawn, Mario must feel a bit like Mike Wallace.
That Ayn Rand clip that has been making the rounds seems to be a Mike Wallace interview. I once had the mistaken impression that Chris Wallace was adopted. I guess it was just that he and his father have had a strained relationship through the years. Go figure.
A provision in the new 9/11 health bill may be adding insult to injury for people who fell sick after their service in the aftermath of the 2001 Al Qaeda attacks, The Huffington Post has learned.
The tens of thousands of cops, firefighters, construction workers and others who survived the worst terrorist assault in U.S. history and risked their lives in its wake will soon be informed that their names must be run through the FBI’s terrorism watch list, according to a letter obtained by HuffPost.

The provision was added in an amendment by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) during the heated debate over the bill in the House Energy and Commerce Committee last May.
Sept. 11 responders in the committee room at the time mostly shook their heads at the move, which Democrats accepted on a voice vote after battling to bar other amendments on abortion and immigration that might have killed the bill.
