Huge surprise, in that it’s Saturday and it’s raining. I believe it’s supposed to stop raining later on, before it starts raining again later. It may also rain again tomorrow. And then it’ll be Monday all over again. There’s something not quite right about all this, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. If I could put my finger on it, however, I know exactly which finger it would be. This wouldn’t be quite so bad if I could once again spend my evenings drinking myself into a contented stupor so that I wouldn’t feel like doing much more than vegetating in front of the teevee until feeling well enough in the early evening to start it all over again. But no, no more of that. I wish they’d hurry up and legalize pot, already.
On the bright side, tonight is the US season premiere of Dr. Who on BBCA, and they’re showing Whos all day long (well, they seem to be showing them right now, anyway – haven’t checked the schedule). I’ll of course be recording it, because I can’t stay up late enough to watch it in real time (not when the dogs – one in particular – seems insistent upon getting me out of bed no later than 4AM).
Well, I suppose I ought to go and see if there’s something I can get started on around here. In the meantime, here’s a blast from the past – three years ago, when the aforementioned dog was just a little puppy (no need for you non-animal people to bother clicking).
Stay dry out there.
Gail Collins:
Right now you’re probably asking yourself: How are all the angry new governors doing?
Great! Fear and loathing may abound, but it’s business-friendly fear and loathing. In Ohio and Wisconsin, angry new governors John Kasich and Scott Walker are taking economic development out of the hands of state bureaucrats and giving the job to new quasi-private entities that will be much more effective and efficient.
In Florida, where the Legislature did all that in the 1990s, the angry new governor Rick Scott has a bold plan to improve economic development by creating a State Department of Commerce that will be much more effective and efficient.

More rain. More grey skies. It must be the weekend.
We NEED rain. In Okie land, it’s the driest since 1921; are we setting up for another 1930’s dust bowl? :bee:
The dust bowl: a Republican dream with those damn poor folks acting as the should…except of course for any union organizing.
I was going to say maybe the OKies just aren’t praying enough so it’s all going to Texas. Timing seems right though. The Depression and the Dust Bowl and all that. At least I hope we get another Woody Guthrie out of the bargain.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has declared a statewide three-day period of prayer for rain as a major wildfire threatens thousands of homes and consumes over a million acres of land following a severe drought.
“I … under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Texas, do hereby proclaim the three-day period from Friday, April 22, 2011, to Sunday, April 24, 2011, as Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas,†Perry wrote in a public letter on Thursday.
“I urge Texans of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers on that day for the healing of our land, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of our normal and robust way of life.
