When I heard that Arizona was looking for donations to build a border fence, I was all set to cash in my CD, sell the dogs, and do whatever I could to support the effort. I figured if that worked, we could get to work on Texas. But then I read the fine print, and it turns out they wanna put the fence on the wrong side of the state. For some reason, they want to keep Arizonans out of Mexico. Like Mexico doesn’t already have it pretty cushy, with their cheap drugs, free Tequila, and drunk American college kid tourist trade, now they want me to pay to keep it free from the scourge of desiccated, melanotic, melanoma-pocked husks of Arizona’s old, un-dead population (no offense, KP, wherever you are)? I don’t think so. Next thing you know, you’ll want me to donate to keep Floridians out of Cuba or something (come on back when we get universal health care, Raúl).
Speaking of Arizona, we’ve headed into a bit of an arid stretch up here. Not only was it a warm sunny weekend, but the forecast appears to be free of rain at least until Friday. It sure would be nice if things would dry out a bit to give the sump pumps a break, and I’m sure the farmer next door would really like to get his field plowed. It would also be nice if the black fly and mosquito breeding grounds would dry up.
Well, I guess I can’t put off thinking about going to work much longer.
It is not raining and although everyday is to be cloudy, no rain seems to be forecast for the next five days. This is a good thing.
Yesterday, when we got home, we parked at the corner which is about 80′ from the front door and the point at which Mike dropped the carrier case in which one of the cats, Weezie, was riding. The case opened and Weezie, who hasn’t roamed outside since I found her 12 years ago, ran right to the front door and waited for me to let her in. Now, how did she know to do that? :billcat:
Lola, on the other hand, ate another sock. How one would manage to eat a sock I cannot imagine. She threw it up, as always, on the rug…as always. :pup:
Tomorrow I have to give a standardized, fill in the bubble, test to a bunch of kindergarteners. Testing such little kids is very difficult as the concept of “do your own work” has not entered their minds yet, (they keep checking to see what their neighbor is doing) making any results of very little validity. And yet this seems like an important measure of what an individual kid knows to the experts that be.
Democrats in California have revived a bill that would create a single-payer health care system that would provide health care for everyone, including illegal residents.
It would replace President Barack Obama’s health care reform legislation with a more comprehensive system – one its advocates say would cost everyone no more than what we already pay.
Opponents emphatically deny that assertion.
And one academic observer of health care policy said, “If you think the fight over affordable care was nasty, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
“This plan is going to gore a lot of oxen,” said Gerald F. Kominski, associate director for UCLA Center Health Policy Research. “No.1 is the insurance industry. They are not about to see their business go up in smoke.”
Kominski said that the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act “is a very moderate, middle-of-the-road approach to health care reform. It fills the gaps in the current system.”
