The price of a share of Polygrip® soared yesterday on news that Newt Gingrich had tossed his teeth into the ring for the Republican nomination. After the success of John McCain last time around, it’s clear that the Republicans need another candidate to appeal to their miserable, crazy old man constituency. Now it’s to identify a stupid pretentious bimbo to run for the #2 spot. Michele Bachmann, get ready. Play your cards right, and you could parlay this into an appearance on Dancing with the Stars.
Pulled the cover off the pool last night and managed to get the pump and filter hooked up and running. It hasn’t been opened in, oh, probably at least a couple of years. Looks a lot like pea soup in there. There are parts missing, things that the previous owners tossed out or misplaced, the liner is out of the track in one corner, and no doubt a few other things that will need attention.
I hate to complain about it (I mean, how absolutely disgusting to bitch about having a pool when there are so many people with real problems), but it’s not something I really coveted. It just happened to come with the house (which came with the land and the location, which is what I really wanted). But there will be a handful of days where it will be nice to come home and cool off. And the dogs will like it, so that’s worth it right there, plus if it means I can keep from turning the a/c on most days, that will offset some of the cost.
Today would probably a good day to swim (if the water wasn’t pea green and colder than hell). It’s supposed to be sunny and 80 degrees, and it would be awfully nice to be able to spend the day outside. But that aint gonna happen.
Elvis songwriter, Ed Wood’s muse Dolores Fuller dies at 88
🙁 :gate:
Ah, nobody filled out a sweater the way she did. Except for Ed Wood himself, of course.
Gail Collins:
American education is going to be reformed until it rolls over and begs for mercy. Vouchers! Guns on campus! Just the other day, the Florida State Legislature took a giant step toward ending the scourge of droopy drawers in high school by upping the penalties for underwear-exposing pants.
Today, let’s take a look at the privatization craze and the conviction that there is nothing about molding young minds that can’t be improved by the profit motive.

Real estate magnate Donald Trump suggested Wednesday it’s not much fun flirting with the idea of running for president in the face of relentless attacks and ridicule.

I suppose when you behave like an arrogant, ignorant, jerk it is very surprising when people notice and tell you so.
I think they should give you vouchers that are good for either private school, or a handgun. Most of the people who would want the voucher would probably go with the gun, and then the kids could go to public school.
PJ, why can’t I make the blog’s text bigger on my iPhone?
Baltimore is a neato city!!
Don’t appreciate your derogatory Barry Bonds comments, btw. He was never convicted of steroid use, you know. Vern can backme up!
Testing of kindegartners should be illegal unless there is probable cause they are mentally deficient, sounds cruel
Just had 2 classes on mental retardation and testing..,
OKat, I put the iPhone in the panoramic horizontal position and double tap the screen on the main copy and it enlarges to fill the screen. I do not use the ‘mobile version’. I go to the bottom of the screen if the mobile face shows up and switch back to the face we see on the internets. I can do the same thing to the right column and it fills the screen. It does so vertical and horizontal.
I am sorry about not coming to Barry’s defense. I just figured at this point people just believe what they will and nothing will change their minds. Yes, Barry has never been convicted of using PEDs but the rule of law does not really matter much these days in people’s minds. He’s been convicted in the media as much for a disagreeable personality as anything else. So be it. If I had taken on pj’s sarcasm, I would have just corrected him with the fact that there is no way the hypocrites in the baseball and baseball press establishment will ever let BB or the steroids issue anywhere the BB HoF. Sad but true.
Meanwhile, I went out to the Willie Mays birthday celebration last Friday night. Barry did not (was not allowed to?) attend his godfather’s big night but he did have a scoreboard greeting in the middle of the game to a standing ovation. The Giants proceeded to win 6 games in a row, sweeping the home series.
:yippee:  :pup:
btw, I think that they should let Pete Rose off the hook as well. They may have had flaws as humans but as baseball players, they were among the greatest. They need to get the holier than thou BS out of it.
Here’s a link to Maron’s new website: it’s still in a soft
version.

I second the notion of “Charlie Hustle” Rose going into the Hall.
Kind of a dick but one of the Greats. Let this legend in while he’s still looking down on the daisies.
Oh, I thought it was just that we didn’t care about what Barry Bonds used, not that we had any doubts that he did.
Good news, as I have been waiting for my growth spurt since I was about 13, and it’s nice to know it could still happen.
I see no reason for Petey Rose to not go to the HOF. It should be about your performance. Most (not all) of the athletes I’ve known were dicks that I wouldn’t want to hang around with, but I don’t really care about their personal life any more than I care whether Secretariat was a role model for the young horses.
Of course, they don’t make ’em like Floyd Little anymore.
I think the point is nothing has ever been proven and he remains innocent. At least, the way things use to be.
Hell, I’m just a funny guy who thinks that UBL should have been apprehended and brought to trial. Maybe we can just shoot Barry in his left butt cheek and kick it in the head.
Well as for Barry Bonds and the HOF steroid exhibit, geez, it was a joke (perhaps not funny, but still just a joke – or an attempt at humor). I mean, as Bill Littlefield would say, it’s only a game.
Osama? Yeah, if it was possible to apprehend him and put him on trial, they should have done that. But that was never gonna happen. Too many difficulties to overcome in that one. And I reckon Osama probably understood the rules of the game.
Besides, I have it on good authority he’s still alive. Either that, or he died in May of 2001. I think the chemtrails got him.
That’s why I called it ‘pj’s sarcasm’. I think of that as joking. Oft misunderstood myself, I yearn for a tongue in cheek smiley.
I figured that would be the Osama outcome when it came down to it. No more of those pesky, quaint restraints of established law and rights. Git ‘r dun! I always figured he’d die or was dead and no one would ever know. The mystery and doubt would confound and enable the fear community for a real long time. They’re making the best of it as it is.
Just heard on Stephen Colbert, “It terrifies me to not be scared.”.
Ok so now I can make the text bigger- thanks Vern! And for the update.
You guys make me laugh!
Of course Vern & I (and the other good folks in The Bay land) believe the great BB is innocent. Alot of growth can happen well after puberty. just ask Barry
