Seems to be another one of those days when I woke up with someone else’s blues, despite the fact that I not only don’t have to go to work today, but I don’t even have to go to work tomorrow. When I got up at 4:00 or so, the moon was (mostly) full, it was still close to 80° out, and I decided I might as well drink my coffee in the pool. The pump is off at night, so the only sound was the wind rustling through the trees, and the bats were swooping around silently gobbling up bugs. An extraordinarily nice way to start the day.
If you’ve ever been invaded by a 4 and 2-year-old, you perhaps can appreciate how nice the silence was. Or is. I’m still the only creature stirring here (though the cows over yonder sound a bit restless now that it’s daylight). The bats have gone to sleep for the day, and even the dogs have stayed in bed this morning. I may just have to go jump back into the water.
But, sadly, the day dawns, and clouds and sprinkles have moved in.
Yesterday, I responded to a tractor emergency, as my friend John found what has to be the only mud left in the County (seeing as it hasn’t rained in quite a while), and got his tractor stuck – really, really, really stuck. Fortunately, he has another tractor, but broke a couple of chains and a strap trying to pull it out (needing a great deal of length, so as not to get the second tractor stuck). So I went over with a long strap that I had, and between pulling and getting the farm jack underneath it and throwing 2x4s and anything else we could find under the wheels, he was eventually able to drive it out of there.
It was fun for me, because it wasn’t my tractor.
Sadly, on the way home, one of my idiot lights lit up. I thought it looked like the little oil can light, and, as everyone knows, once that one comes on, you pretty much need to stop right there. So I kept on driving. No pressure gauge on that car, so I had no idea if I was out of oil or what. Turns out, no. The oil was fine, and, upon further review, it was the ‘Malfunction Indicator Light’ (which I’m guessing is something like the Korean translation of “Check Engine.” So, I put my code reader on it this morning, and it appears to be something to do with the O2 sensor (a “slow response”). Which, in the scheme of things, is a lot better than driving with no oil.
So, anyway, I took the gas cap off and put it back on, then reset the code. The light is off for now, but we’ll see what happens when I drive it.
Now I guess it’s time for a swim. Or a nap. Just not both at the same time.
I’ve had a ‘check engine’ light on for over three years on my CRV.(with 190100 miles on it) I have to tell them every time I take it in that I know it’s for the catalytic convertor which I am not going to spend $2000 on to replace- not while I can still pass inspection which I’ve done twice.
I’m not very religious about the catalytic converter either.
My daughter, her husband and Nina, my 9 year old granddaughter and the giant dog (120 lbs) went home yesterday, after a week. We love them all but the silence is very sweet.
Yeah, I priced a Cat. Looks like I can get one for $400 if I can put it in myself. Hopefully that’s not it, as I only have about 41,000 miles on this car.
I have a nice fat tabby cat you can have for free! :billcat: (I’m not sure she’d be much good at eliminating pollution but you can’t beat the price.)
I’ve been told it requires a lot of custom welding skills along with the danger of setting your car on fire. :fire: :omg:
I remember having to get a new one on my Mazda (I think). My smog guy gave me the name of a place that did it for about $200 while I waited and watched. I thought the same thing as I watched the sparks fly.
I’ve dipped my toe into Google+ thanks to pj. If anyone else takes the plunge, look for me. It looks a lot better than FB with mo’
bettahbeta features but I am not sure how fast the stampede will be. Let me know if you want an invite. This was my first posting.
Just curious- pj quit FB cause he didn’t want to be bothered with any more time or privacy lost to the Internet but what’s thedifferwnce with google+?
So far from what I see, the privacy settings are more transparent and manageable. It’s easier to block people, add ‘friends’ at any of 4-5 degrees including ‘following’. I think that Google might be taking into consideration people’s problems and concerns with FB. For example, I blocked someone I did not want to see right off the bat.
You should check it out.
Well, first off, there’s no farmville or mafia wars or other stupid shit in Google+.
Beyond that, G+ has what they call “circles.” You can have circles for friends, family, acquaintances, or you can make up your own. When you add somebody to a circle, they don’t know what circle you’ve added them to (just that you’ve added them), and they don’t need to add you to anything if they don’t want to.
Now, with Facebook, people I knew from work started wanted to be “friends.” So I began to self-censor. I mean, it perhaps isn’t always comfortable to post “I hate my f*cking job” (or, say, union rabble-rousing type stuff, or pix of you doing bongs or something) if word is gonna get around.
With G+ you can select which circles you want to share stuff with – posts, photos, video, whatever. So rather then tell your boss you don’t wanna be friends on facebook, you can put him in the “work” circle, and then just never post anything (or post “well, another 12 hour day for me, but I love my job and really feel I’m accomplishing great things”) to that circle.
And there may be things that you want to post for your friends, but not necessarily people you hardly know, or your kids (or your parents).
So, to me it’s less of a hassle than jumping through all the FB hoops.
I tried w/ some success using my iPhone. I’ll play with it some more when I get home.
:fire: Maron’s on Conan again tomorrow night.
I think the non-teenager may have de-friended me on fb 😥 I never check his fb, but I did today. I’d feel better if I was in at least one of his circles so the g+ sounds promising. The settings in fb are ridiculously convoluted. And I don’ want any game stuff and I don’t want folks adding me to stuff. So I would welcome a change.
Watching Kreepy Kos on Countdown right now but special Countdown coverage of the Merdochs before Parliament with KO with Olbermann and John Dean will be on tomorrow morning at 9:15 AM EDT.
