Tropical Storm Lee is pissing all over Louisiana this morning, and they say they could get 20 inches of rain in places. That’s a lot of rain. Fortunately, I heard a government dude say not to worry,’cuz everything’s designed to handle a hundred year storm. So that’s cool. Not so cool up here, though, as yesterday was hot and humid, and today is supposed to be even, um, humider. The weather geek yesterday said “tropical” humidity. My little weather station says it’s 77 degrees with 80% humidity in here, which is pretty damn warm for 6:00 in the morning. All that’s gonna change tomorrow, though, as things cool off, summer ends, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it starts snowing. OK, so maybe it won’t get quite that cold. Soon, though.
Normally, I wouldn’t link to a Wall Street Journal article, but I wouldn’t want anybody to miss out on seeing this one.
You know what’s nice about a laptop carved out of a single block of aluminum (when its touchpad hasn’t gone insane)? It gets nice and toasty warm in the winter. You know what sucks about a laptop carved out of a single block of aluminum (besides the fact that it’s touchpad is prone to insanity)? It gets really f*cking hot in the summer.
Too darn hot.
I’ve always wondered what playing in traffic led to. Now, I know: Syracuse.
Many conservatives appear to think badly of poor people, but Matthew Vadum of the Capital Research Center takes it a step further. According to the title of his latest article for American Thinker, he believes that “registering the poor to vote is un-American.”
“Why are left-wing activist groups so keen on registering the poor to vote?” Vadum asks. “Because they know the poor can be counted on to vote themselves more benefits by electing redistributionist politicians. Welfare recipients are particularly open to demagoguery and bribery.”
“Registering them to vote is like handing out burglary tools to criminals,” he continues. “It is profoundly antisocial and un-American to empower the nonproductive segments of the population to destroy the country– which is precisely why Barack Obama zealously supports registering welfare recipients to vote. … Encouraging those who burden society to participate in elections isn’t about helping the poor. It’s about helping the poor to help themselves to others’ money.”

Congratulations sp on retiring! What surprised me was that you only had to make a simple phone call to make it so. I’m happy for you and your new found freedom!
(I simply can’t respond to your post ^ up there. Too disgusted by that dude’s comments.)

Horses….the one that almost killed me, literally, and changed my life forever (multiple surgeries and the like), was a 16 hand Thoroughbred named Bartender. (He was the sort of fellow you could talk to.) He was my horse and a good guy, but we had a very nasty accident. He was fine. Me? Not so much. The Percheron and others are often wonderful dressage horses. I was a rider for many years, even after Bartender and I had our spill. Eventually the surgeon told me to get off and stay off. Hence, the reason FK had Belted Galloways and not horses.
Now OK is enjoying cooler weather! :pup: We had one 80 degree day all summer and we are expecting several days this week. It was 65 degrees on my walk and it felt so good to breathe something other than blow-dryer air.
