Today is AHA day. Yes, a squadron of nurses (like, 2, but don’t let that fool you; more than one nurse in the same place is always dangerous. In fact, just one can be trouble) will descend upon my work location, admonishing people about their high blood pressures and tsk-tsking at those who refuse flu shots. Last I saw, the flu shot was rated as having a 60% efficacy rate across all age groups. The older you get, the less likely it is to do anything for you. I suspect that even that 60% number is inflated, and I’d love to see studies testing the efficacy of smudging your home sage and/or taking oil of oregano at the first signs of illness. Oh well, never try to get between people and their religion.
I just read a “news” story that said “pour over” brewing is now the latest scam trend in gourmet coffee. You know, like back when you were in college and you couldn’t afford a Mr. Coffee, so you put a filter in a funnel and poured boiling water over it and into your cup? Yep, that’s “hip” now. I guess that helps to justify paying out the nose for a cup of shitty coffee.
Tonight, they’re unveiling our latest sports team – the Silver Nights of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Good luck with that. If they thought the AHL hockey team had a hard time competing with SU basketball, wait ’til they see how badly an indoor soccer team is ignored around here.
“Hey, it’s cold and snowy tonight. Let’s go see some soccer.”
Somehow, I just don’t think that’s gonna catch on.
My Melitta is hip now? cool! :joe:
Don’t imagine Art had to work much yesterday. Heard there was quite a power outage in Boulder.
I adored Fred Astaire – guess that fits. Heard somewhere the reason he looked so smooth dancing was he was always just ahead of the music. Gene Kelly wasn’t too shabby either.
Since I don’t like to bring my personal problems to this august group, I did not share my story recently about the bottom of my plastic Melita filter holder. The glass bottom went decades ago (those things never lasted long) but the filter funnel fit perfectly over the top of a coffee/teapot I had so I have been using it for years. I am sure that you remember those coffee rigs in the red and green boxes being for everywhere at one time and the carafe and filter replacements were readily available almost anywhere. Much to my surprise they aren’t anymore after I looked everywhere I could think of for a replacement. In the end my old filter still sits gingerly on top of the teapot so I’ll keep working with that in hopes that some day I can find one on freecycle or at a garage sale.
And with that I now have to figure out if that tremor is from my first pot of coffee this morning or still another earthquake or maybe flash/bang grenades.
Stay warm Art. You, too, OK.

Big 12 Might Admit Louisville, Not West Virginia
:omg:
Vern, I use the porcelain one now. It has lasted for a couple years now and is much sturdier than the plastic/glass combo of yore.
Yes, Ferretface McConnell is sticking his nose into the Big 12 now. Idiot.
No such luck 🙁 I work in the far NE part of Boulder and all the power lines are buried. :smack:
The far SW part of Boulder got nearly 11 inches (which is right against the foothills) but as with most winter storms in Colorado the sun dried the roads quickly and this weekend should be in the sixties, sunny with white mtn tops.
Vern, I know you and your fellow Californians will be pleased to know that Orly Taitz is running for senate. Personally, I think she’d make a great senator, giving Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert and many many others reason to rejoice.

The rest of us may get the opportunity to support Pastor Terry Jones (the Koran burner and sharia law fighter) who wants to run for president.

If the GNP was measured by the amount of insane clowns this country produces, our deficit problems would be solved.
If you somehow missed this or need a good laugh this afternoon:
You know, I’m not the only lucky one.
