Good news, bad news. The good news is that – despite a rather oppressive amount of work to do – I decided to take the day off. The bad news is that, in my exuberance to celebrate having the day off, I stayed up too late and went over my beer quota{{1}}[[1]]Technically, my beer quota for a Thursday night is ‘zero,’ but, what with the Holidays and time off and whatnot, I’ve violated that for two weeks in a row now. Shameful.[[1]] Therefore, I’m not feeling up to par (and I’m still kinda sick, which doesn’t help). So please excuse me for keeping this brief today{{2}}[[2]]I’m assuming that’s OK with the two people who are actually reading this.[[2]].
On the bright side, not only is Joe Ehrmann{{3}}[[3]]I’ll be surprised if anybody other than me actually knows who he is.[[3]] smart, but he looks pretty good for an old guy.
“Black” Friday might be over,{{4}}[[4]]Something to do with the letdown over the Obama “I knew he wasn’t a liberal, so I’m not disappointed” Administration, I think.[[4]] but the deals just keep coming. For instance, I got an e-mail this morning from an establishment I frequent{{5}}[[5]]The kind where you can buy a pallet of toilet paper for $10.99[[5]] with the subject “Save on Holiday Entertaining,” which is funny because I’ve found the best way to save on that is to not let people anywhere near your house.
Anyhow, the deals include “up to” 15% on baked goods – “including shipping.” Yes. I rarely buy baked goods, but when I do, free shipping is key.
PJ, That cold has been going on for a while. Perhaps it is the flu.
CSpan has an interesting video lecture about the 1918 flu pandemic in which the lecturer says that summer colds are a mild flu. It seems the flu virus prefers cold weather and survives the warmer months in a less virulent strain.
I hope you feel better quickly.
Since I don’t get a flu shot, I refuse to entertain the notion that it’s the flu.
It is, however, both malevolent and a lingerer – a malingerer.
So a majority of Republicans voted against the Democratic plan to extend the payroll tax cut, and a majority of Republicans voted against even the Republican plan to extend the payroll tax cut.
In other words, the Republicans don’t want to extend the payroll tax cut at all. They want to raise taxes on every single working American. Not just the middle class—if you have a job, the GOP just voted to raise your taxes for Christmas.

Apparently, Norquist advised Rethugs that blocking the payroll tax extension should not be viewed as raising taxes. I guess tax increases are only tax increases when they apply to the 1%.
Bloomberg: I Would Cut The Number Of Teachers In Half
This is the kind of thinking one can expect from someone who has never taught. I suppose he thinks a good lecturer is what is meant by a good teacher. But, when you’re teaching a skill, like reading, writing or ‘rithmatic, it’s important to be able to understand what each student is doing and to offer assistance as needed by each student.
In other words, Bloomberg is an ass!
I was thinking maybe he meant to say that he would cut a number of teachers in half. The parts with the heads would stay on as teachers, but the other end would go into politics, where talking out of your ass is apparently a requirement.
Donald Trump is pairing up with Newsmax, the conservative magazine and news Web site, to moderate a presidential debate in Des Moines on Dec. 27. […]
Mr. Trump’s role in the debate, which will be broadcast on the cable network Ion Television, is sure to be one of the more memorable moments in a primary season that has already delivered its fair share of circus-like spectacle. :rofl2:
Alan Sues
🙁 :gate: :rofl2:
1) I’m just glad pj is drinking beer again
2) I can’t believe Alan Shues was 85 :omg:

Maron Email thread with music industry pundit:
http://lefsetz.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/2011/11/30/maronlefsetz/
MyGawd, WHT, you posted a back and forth between Maron and Lefsetz? I used to subscribe to Lefsetz email newsletter that came way to often and often offered opinionated blather arrogant verging on obnoxious. He used to be on a music industry information.gossip blog I used to belong to and I think that he was actually banned for the flame wars he instigated. I could be a real :crap: disturber and try to get them into it about Danny Gold ❓ :tinfoil: ❗ 😡 .
I probably should have read it before I said anything but it was about what I expected-Lefsetz talking about something he knows little about and then trying to tell them how they should do things. I hesitate trying to find his original comment but Dreese is the owner of Newberry Comics chain in the North East and a pretty decent and also opinionated guy but not so obnoxious.
Lefsetz writes the same thing over and over again, and is a master of empty profundity. Maron stuck it to him I thought.
