We had a puppy jail break yesterday. Thanks to the live puppy cam, we were able to monitor their activity (though we’re powerless to do anything about it; one of these days I gotta hook speakers up to it so I can at least holler at ’em). The damage was minimal (an old sneaker that the sole had fallen off of a long time ago, turning it into kind of a moccasin, a cat toy, some unidentifiable shards of something or other, and a yellow sponge), but, for some reason, while they are more or less over crapping inside their containment area, they (or at least one of them, and I suspect it’s Bud, who is a bit of a troublemaker) seem to enjoy crapping and peeing in the dining room when they can get to it. As it’s a wood laminate floor, that’s certainly preferable to hitting up the rug in the family room – especially since it was more of the hot fudge-type consistency than neat little logs.
Still, it was pretty stinky, and my wife tends to dawdle at work in order to ensure that I get home first and have to deal with it. To quote my father-in-law: “imagine me, a man, having to clean up shit.” Indeed.
Worse, since this is on the western side of the house and it was quite sunny and warm (though not as hot as it has been) yesterday, things were pretty well baked on, so it took quite an effort (and half a roll of paper towels) to get it all up and disposed of.
Puppies. Gotta love ’em. I really think they should be over this crapping in the house phase by now (I mean, they’re 8 months old). I blame my wife; she’s just too easy on them.
Speaking of wives (and stinky stuff), I see that Yasser Arafat’s wife wants his body exhumed. That doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. I mean, he looked like he smelled pretty ripe when he was still alive. But now? :yuck:
Oh well, time to get this two-day week over with already. I just hope it doesn’t end up with me cleaning up shit.
Cats are sooo much easier to housebreak…just show them the litter pan. Of course they do like to climb curtains and sharpen those little claws on upholstered furniture, but at least they know where the bathroom is.
Usually, that’s the case. But we’ve had cats that got it into their heads that the couch was a really nifty place to pee, too. And not just when they were little.
But both puppies and kittens are way better than human babies. Plus they don’t grow up and want to borrow the car.
I have to agree. Baby humans pee in their pants for years. I also have to confess my relief at reading that Peggy and/or Bud are still occasionally not absolutely housebroken. I usually hear puppy owners telling me how Fido was trained by 3 months when my dogs are still capable of peeing on the rug for too many months. I assumed I was just a really lousy dog parent.
Hey there! I miss you guys and the emoticons. :kub: How many puppies do you have? I just aquired a pupper a few months ago which puts me up to 4 dogs now. So far she has been pretty good about chewing only on her toys. She’s 8 months and I haven’t stepped in a pile of crap for at least 2 months. But she has the older dogs to show her the ropes.
KP, you have been missed as well. Are you still farming? How is the house doing?
I’m still farming, amazingly enough. We are a Seat of Our Pants operation. But we produce more every year so, that’s the right direction, I guess. I’m still waiting for a little financial boost. The house is awesome, it’s taken me 3 years to finish painting the teevee room but it’s done except for the white doors which look wrong now. It’s a great life but I’m a little exhausted. Physical labor is good for you the one hand but harsh on a 40 something. But moving around is still better than sitting all day, I just need a young back to help me out. We have a little store now, indoor farmers market with AC. Way better than working in the barn!
Someone broke into my mom’s apartment today.
K-pea!
I heard some of this Gale Collins thing tonight. Not sure if they podcast but it will replay a few more times.
I’m on my way back to VA tomorrow. I guess I am an orphan now.
Hopefully MS blog will provide a little sanity for me.
🙁 :gate:
We’re here for you Vern. Sorry to hear you’re an orphan 🙁
Great to hear from Kristapea.
Also, :hot: whew, thought pj had given it up.
We vacated for a few days up in the hills and brought back monsonal rains to the front range now flooding some parts of fore-said range. sorry bout that :paranoid:
Hope it drops some on our Okie and New York friends
Maybe this place wasn’t broken into but the door sure is busted up. Can’t find anything missing, though. Must’ve been a sneak and peek kinda thing.
oh well…
I hope all turns out well, Travis. I know that sometimes it seems that when it rains, it pours big time.
I am looking forward to hitting the Eastern seaboard in the teeth of July so I can’t sit around here smugly looking at our 50-70 degrees weather while most of you roast or burn.
I’m going to spend today seeing if I have any hot weather clothes that I can pack. I did find a suit I can still wear.
:cold: :hot:
Hey KP, great to hear from you and glad all is well!
Vern, you’re not an orphan with us around.
We had a couple of those dog poopers recently…on carpet. Not sure who the culprit was but think it was SouSou. She’s getting on in years.
Sorry to hear Travis, maybe whoever was trying to break in got interrupted and left.
Good to see some folks still around. :pup: I think I’m worn out on FB. Trying to ween off. It’s hard when everyone you’ve ever known is on there. It’s a good thing to keep in touch and FB makes it easy but that stupid ticker on the side showing me what people I don’t even know were saying was bothersome and just made me want to shut up.
Why are you an orphan Vern? 🙁
Lost my father last night. 🙁 :gate:
Vern, I’m so sorry about your dad. Is it to West Virginia you’re headed? Try to stay cool and stay in touch. You’re never an orphan here.
Sorry to hear Vern. That’s got to be a strange feeling I am not looking forward to. I hope his passing was peaceful. :gate:
Travis, I hope your mom is OK. You both must be really unnerved. I’ve had my house broken into and it’s not just that things are taken but the horrible feeling that your house has been entered and abused.
Hubby Mike is always locking doors and windows and driving me nuts about making sure that no one can get into our house. Of course I point out to him that there are always vulnerabilities and if someone can’t get in the front door there is always a back window. He agrees but says the idea is to make it as difficult and time consuming as possible to discourage the effort in the first place.
Thanks all.
It is Virginia I will be going to where my family moved in 1964. I sort of wish that my father could be buried in West Virginia but this is where my mother rests. I always hoped I could take him back to West Virginia one last time but he was no longer in any condition for a big road trip. I think he passed comfortably and it was not prolonged thankfully. I am relieved for him and my sister who is there and has born the brunt of his care for years.
Everybody feel free to make a bad pun in his memory in the next few days. He taught me everything I know.
🙄 :rofl2:
