Another way-too-fast weekend is over, and it’s back to work again today. There doesn’t appear to be too much new in the world. Republicans seem determined to throw us off the fiscal cliff, and I don’t see where Democrats have much they can do about it. Except completely cave in, raise the Medicare age and cut Social Security, in exchange for, well, basically nothing. Although I don’t especially want my taxes to go up, I think they should just go ahead and let the sequestration go ahead and happen. Maybe then they’ll be willing to actually do something. But I wouldn’t hold my breath. Oh well, time to get ready to get going.
I am really enjoying the quiet that is Shelter Island in December. Although we have spent weekends and holidays here for years, we have not been here when the summer folks and tourists are gone. I do miss the city but I confess to an apprehension about flooding in my house again. The electrician is still working on the repairs after which there must be an inspection by Con Ed and then, hopefully, they will turn the electricity to the house on. It has already been over a month.
I have finished Christmas shopping for Mike and little Nina (who is now 10). Everyone else gets gift certificates. I promised Mike I would not raise my usual objections to a tree so I guess Clifford will be thrilled to find a tree to climb right in the livingroom and I will learn to like sweeping up pine needles outside and inside.
