All I can say is, I’m feeling pretty vindicated.
Older people who see the glass as half empty and who harbor low expectations for a satisfying future may be more likely to live longer, healthier lives than those who are more optimistic, according to new research published by the American Psychological Association.
“Our findings revealed that being overly optimistic in predicting a better future was associated with a greater risk of disability and death within the following decade,” said lead author Frieder Lang, a professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, in a press release.
Of course, with my luck, that study will probably turn out to be wrong.
So it’s either a long life filled with dread and disdain or a shorter one of sunny optimism. Ugh!
I think it means we all have Dubya to thank for adding a few years to our lives.
So do fire and brimstone Christo-fascists live longer? :paranoid:
No, ‘cuz they’re optimistic.
Guess I never thought of the hate machine as optimistic, but suppose you’re correct.
Speaking of a short life, the battery life on this iPhone is pretty horrible. I could go w/o charging the BB for days on end with wifi and Bluetooth enabled. I don’t think this thing would last 16 hours.
Saw a post on the Apple discussion board,
What the heck’s the point of having the thing if you’re gonna shut everything off?
Oh well, I guess I could just get a spare battery and swap it…. Oh, right.
Had to replace my 5 within a week because of a crappy battery. This one works great. The Genius swapped it out so fast it appeared to be a common problem.
I found the secret. Just don’t use the phone at all, and it lasts OK. If you want to do all the neat shit that the phone can do? Keep it plugged in.
I dunno. I finally got my used 3G iPhone from same employer as PJ for my non-IT job for the same emplyer a few months ago. Other than having the data cable and charging module stolen from my desk, it seems to stay charged pretty well for the 8 hours I have it turned on. Of course, I don’t use all the fancy shit on it because I know Big Brother is watching every move and what with the sequester now kicking in, my current job may be on the chopping block and bye-bye iPhone along with it (I would not weep over that — I like my Android way better, but I have to pay for it). So, we’ll see how this Kabuki craziness plays out. :yinyang:
I heard a report on that study yesterday and had intended to look it up.
Sometimes my battery seems to last longer than others. When I got my ‘new’ iPhone, the first thing that I noticed was that it did not work with the chargers from the old phone so I was more or less required to charge it with the USB on the iMac. Since I am not travelling very much it really did not matter. Eventually there was a good Groupon offer for chargers so I can once again charge in the car and elsewhere and I pretty much have it hooked up to a charger at all times. When I do travel, it is always interesting and challenging looking around at all of the white chargers plugged in at an airport.
One more thing I found out when I was getting data usage warnings when I switched phones and first had a cap. I would have these spikes every now and then when I was never out of wifi range. The wifi usage is free. I found out fram AT&T :omg: :fu: that in the middle of the night Apple will get into your phone and do things but they bump you off of wifi to do it so you can have data spikes at 2 AM whilst you sleep. She said that she turned her phone off at night to avoid to keep her usage down. WTF? I would also guess that would drain the battery. When there was that recent Homeland Security Java warning, Apple remotely disabled the threat in many cases. I never was sure how I felt about that.
Bad behavior-it’s not just for Mountaineers fans anymore.
Excited Virginia Fans Storm Court To Beat Shit Out Of Duke Basketball Team
In fact, Coach K really was upset (no pun intended) by the UVa fans post game celebration. I don’t follow it that carefully but I heard a brief comment on a sports talk show yesterday that said the Duke genius has a habit of a head fake to change the subject after a loss.
I turn mine “off” — if sliding the thing into the red zone really turns it off, or set it to “airplane” mode during the day when I have to go to ICU or cardiac units, although I don’t think it makes any difference because I constantly hear cell phones ringing when I am on “turn-your-goddam-cell-phones-off” supposed “its-gonna-fuck-up-the-life-sustaining-monitors” units, so, I dunno. Seems to make the battery last longer, though when you do the “airplane” mode. :billcat:
It seemed to me that they were not restricting cell phone usage when my friend was in the CC ICU. He was constantly using an iPad/MacBook and Skyping but I think others were on their mobiles.
:joe: Maybe we are behind here on the wide open flat land, but I just came across H2O in a box. F’ing ingenious.
Not sure what this adds to the argument but it is Doc’s birthday and he’s no longer with us.
:cake: 🙁 :gate:
