First, the bad news. I did not win the $590 million PowerBall drawing last night. I blame it on my wife, to whom I gave both two dollars (courtesy of the Nielsen folks) and fairly simple instructions: buy a winning ticket. Not only did we not win, we didn’t even get one number (I was hoping there was a prize for getting nothing right, but I guess that’s some other game, like Keno or something). I’m very sad about this, as I really don’t want to go to work anymore. Oh well.
Other than the crushing disappointment of being a lottery loser, yesterday was a fairly productive day, as I accomplished all of my weekend goals (though, to be fair, I typically set my sights pretty low). I did a bunch of weed whacking (had to order a second battery for the new weed whacker, as I only get about a half hour of whacking time before I need to recharge (and, at my age, it takes me way more than 30 minutes to whack), mounted my new bench grinder on my bench, and got the grass cut. As if that wasn’t enough, we even set up the new 10′ x 20′ canopy that my wife bought on the pool deck.
This leaves me with little left to do today, other than admire the persistence of the dandelions who were all cut down yesterday but are miraculously back up already. Oh, I did my weekly shopping tis morning, and I need to do some laundry, but that’s about all I have planned (unless I’m somehow attacked by a fit of ambition or something. I really should rest my foot anyway.
Yesterday I bought a Powerball ticket now that they are available here and jacking up the pot for the rest of youse. I hadn’t bought a lottery ticket in years. I guess I should have split it on the ponies. If paying attention I might have won a hunch bet on Orb in the Derby but I wouldn’t have a dog in the Preakness hunt. I’ll have to see if I won any of the trickle down lottery money from the lottery since I don’t reside in FL so I guess I lost. My sister says she won $4.
🙁
I won $3! Now I only lost $7.

I can’t find an embed for this but it is so great. You can find a link to a video stream of yesterday’s Tulane gradjumacation and See Doctor Dr. John and Dr. Allen Toussaint sending off America’s newest debt holders into the world with the Dalai Lama looking on and enjoying some NOLa tradishun and culcha.

One scandal down…
Hoping that the OKats are OK. Scary footage on MSNBC right now from those parts. It looks really bad.
I am hoping the same. I read that one tornado was a mile wide and had 200 mph winds.
It rained yesterday and flooded Central Park. Lincoln says it’s because of the Central Park Conservancy, charged with beautifying the park, cutting down trees which they don;t seem to regard as part of the park’s beauty: He’s got some disturbing pix:

Central Park didn’t flood like that in Hurricane Sandy.

I can’t stand it! If I visit the cable channel office, have my car serviced at the dealer, need a warranted repair on the stove, I get a “follow-up call.” They want to ask me ten questions about the service and I’m supposed to rate them on a 1-10 scale. If the call simply asked if I was satisfied it would be fine. But I really don’t have the time or desire to rate whether the person was dressed appropriately. I refuse to ever answer one of these calls again.
This is has been a sad day around here. We are about 10 minutes north of the devastation. Sirens went off several times today and so came home and took doggies to our “safe room” or messy basement. We are the fortunate ones. That mother of a tornado ripped up everything inlcuding the grass and dirt, as if humans, cars and buildings were not enough. Still waiting on finding some children in a school. Oklahomans already reaching out to help…. (Ony our Senators don’t believe in federal relief.)
Thanks for the check in. I am very relieved to hear from you.
Your reps also don’t want to do anything about climate change but I am sure they will be big time ‘takers’ for this mess it has caused.
:fu:
I was hoping to see a post from Okat, this morning. I am so glad she and the pooches safe. I’m sure OK reps will be glad to take help from the feds, they really only hate it when that relief goes to “blue” areas. But, more important, it is long past time to start trying to mitigate the disaster of climate change.
