First, the bad news…. My write-in candidacies seem to have failed (though I’m still holding out hope I can get the Toronto Mayor gig that might be opening up soon). On the bright side, Democrat Mary Jo what’s her name defeated Republican incumbent Dan somebody to win out Town Supervisor race. In fact, it was Ladies Night across Upstate New York, as Rochester elected its first woman mayor, Syracuse re-elected its woman mayor, and Albany also elected a woman as mayor. Fitting, as yesterday was the anniversary of Susan B. Anthony walking into a polling station in Rochester back in 1872 and casting a ballot (which of course was illegal and got her arrested). No woman in NYC, but at least they elected a Democrat (and one with a sun who has a rather impressive Afro).
In other results nobody not from NY cares about, Casinos passed but age extensions for Judges didn’t. One of the land swap deals passed, but I can’t find any info about the other one to the mining company yet, so I hope it failed. So far I see no results for the other propositions either. Must have been too close to call.
I’ll be sure and keep y’all in the loop.
Outside NY, it’s legal to smoke pot in Portland ME now (other than those pesky state and federal laws), and everybody’s favorite Syracusan Terry McAuliffe was elected governor of Virginia, beating Tea Party darling Ken Cuccinelli (or, as his former boss Bill Clinton might have put it, he really “stuck it to the Cooch”). Oh, and Chris Christie won, but we already know that was gonna happen.
Well, time to get back to getting ready to seize the day.
I watched about 20 minutes of Morning Joe in which Joe did a lot of crowing about how Christie won in spite of his pro-life, anti gay stands. Hr failed to mention that Christie has made no moves to curtail abortion and that gay marriage is now legal in NJ as Christie has withdrawn his court legal challenge, which seems to me to kinda blunt the whole culture warrior thing.
Here’s a link, PJ, to the tallies for the ballot initiatives in NY. I think they all won except for the old judges rule. Nyer’s must be in a positivie mood.
Joey was absent for the last part of the 1st hour. I am guessing he had to change his undergarments. He’s on this big Bob McConnell thing today as well. Hope they keep sharp items away from him if an indictment comes down in the next few weeks.
The cats have fleas, or at least 2 of them do. This morning is flea control day. Ugh!
On the bright side, they have all decided they love Merrick’s new chicken pate. They actually lick the plate clean instead of making their usual mess.
Fleas are a constant battle here – the Frontline Plus doesn’t seem to be all that effective. And I’ve pulled more ticks off the dogs in the last couple of weeks than I did all summer. Almost looking forward to some consistently cold weather to know them all down a bit.
Don’t let the cats know that you know that they like the food, or they’ll turn their noses up at it.
Unfortunately, that is true. I never give them the same kind of cat food 2 days in a row. Even if they love the stuff, they turn those noses up if they ate it the day before.
As for Frontline, the vet on Shelter Is. gave me something else that sounded so toxic I refused to use it. The vet in Brooklyn gave me a flea color for the dog called Preventic by Virbac that she thinks should be used with Frontline. But, the Frontline seems to be working for Lola. I may resort to flea power as bathing the cats is a horrible experience for us all.
The minimum wage raise that Christie vetoed was on the ballot, last night, and it passed.
