Going to work this morning sucked, but at least the ride in was nice. Well, except for the douchebag who insisted on going 40 mph (max) for about a 15 mile stretch in a 55 zone. It was a crystal clear night last night, and the 93% waning gibbous moon lit everything up brilliantly (one advantage to being blanketed in snow – even moonless nights are bright).
Clear skies meant somewhat chilly temperatures, though – below zero, for a change. The coniferous trees are all dusted with snow, and the naked branches of the other trees are coated with ice. With the sun and bright blue skies, everything looked absolutely magical this morning.
It was nice to see the sun, especially since we’re due for more snow tomorrow. As of Saturday, we were officially up to 99.9″ for the season (more than that where I live, though), and since it snowed all day yesterday, I assume we’re over a hundred now.
If it wasn’t for having to go to work, I really wouldn’t mind the snow and cold at all. It’s much better to look at than brown grass and mud. I’d be quite content to tromp around in the woods in my snow shoes. In fact, looking at my show shoes hanging up in the garage this morning, I thought to myself, “gee, I ought to actually use them one of these days.” But then I remembered how much my feet start to hurt when I walk a little bit these days. So, like, never mind.
Oh well, back to work I guess.
Mrs A and I have decided that this is the best holiday of all- we don’t have to be anywhere or do anything :dancers: :yippee:
Enjoy the day! I wish I was off too. Remind me to not check the mail when I get home.
I’m really pleased to say we don’t have 100+ inches of snow. None the less, we have enough and it keeps snowing. More last night and more tomorrow.
It’s snowing..again. Each day the icicles outside the windows grow as if they are determined to imprison me in some sci-fi frozen nightmare. I know the Farmers Almanac predicted a cold snowy winter but did it predict an end to it?
Don’t worry, oppressive heat and drought conditions are just around the corner.
Oh joy!
Windy and a high fire danger around these parts. I could use a bit of the snowy bliss described above.
Ralph died. 🙁
Alf died back in 2011.

Sorry about the botched linking. I am still in Seattle for a while longer. It is nice up here although the rain never seems to stop. I know this is a little more than usual but the rain aspect is in full effect. It gets beautifully blue sky sunny and in 15 minutes buckets will drop. I kind of like it but I haven’t been driving in much of it for a while so I killed my trip today.

Afghanistan War Documentary ‘Hornet’s Nest’ Gets U.S. Distribution
Freestyle Releasing has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Afghanistan combat documentary and set May 23 for a nationwide theatrical release.
Directed by David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud, “Hornet’s Nest†stars father-son journalists Mike and Carlos Boettcher, Emmy award-winning correspondents embedded with U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
Producers are Salzberg and Tureaud of HighRoad Media and the Boettchers, with John Brenkus and Mickey Stern exec producing for Base Prods.
Freestyle is touting “Hornet’s Nest†as being in the vein of Relativity’s “Act of Valor†— which grossed $70 million domestically — and Universal’s “Lone Survivior,†which has topped $119 million in the U.S. The film will open in select markets on May 9 and May 16.
The Boettchers spent almost two years covering the American troop surge in Afganistan and are the only father and son to ever win an Emmy for the same news story, having won for ABC News for their coverage of Strong Eagle 3 in 2011. That battle is featured as the final act of the film.
“Freestyle Releasing was immediately moved by the incredible story of Mike and Carlos Boettcher, as well as all the brave servicemen and women on the front lines shown in the film,†said Mark Borde, co-president Freestyle. “This very commercial story of bravery and heroism will definitely appeal to mass audiences.â€
The soundtrack, featuring Wynonna Judd and Michael Moser’s “Follow Me,†will be available from Gratitude Entertainment in May.
The film screened at the Napa Film Festival and for top military brass in Washington D.C. at the G.I. Film Festival last year.
I am sure that Freestyle is familiar with the Roxie Theater here that screens a lot of indy docs. They also seem to get a lot of of the principals of their presentations on KQED’s Forum. Let me know when the film shows up here. I have a few friends in the doc community.
I hope we can see it out here.

I’ve had enough snow but I’ve had too much ice. The last two days have been warm (relatively). The night however is cold and all that melting snow becomes ice. This morning Mike and I found the driveway to be solid ice. Somehow we managed to find enough things to hang onto to get to the car while still standing.
Next week we’re supposed to get more snow!
Snow is manageable, but the ice is a disaster.
In front of our state’s capitol there is a large stone monument of the Ten Commandments.
But we can, with relative ease, kill each other, kill horses, and now they want to let us go shoot our dogs and other pets if we just feel like it.
Folks here are regressing to caveman days.
ARGGHHHHH!!!!!
