In a (sadly) typically cowardly act, the NY State Working Families Party decided to give Governor Snotball its ballot line in the November election, proving once and for all that it’s just shill and rubberstamp for the Democrats. So, no voting the WFP line for me anymore. And they aren’t getting any of my time or money. Not that they got much of that anyway, but still. I think I’ll have to change my registration back to “no preference” since there isn’t anybody worth voting for in the primaries anyway (least ways, not anybody who has a chance in hell of winning). I think I’ll just have to start writing myself in for everything – it does about as much good as anything else.
This is the lead story now on 2nd hour of UP with Steve Kornacki. Sounds like a disgrace. I did not know Diane Ravitch was in the mix earlier in the week.
Not your typical military dad. I hope his son has a healthy re-entry.
WFP in Other States
One of Cuomo’s worst sins was his quiet facilitation of the 4 Dems who joined the Repubs to turn the NY Senate back to the republicans after the Dems had finally won enough seats to change it. Supposedly he will work to reverse that.
The unions were pushing WFB not to name a different nominee because they didn’t want to make enemies of Cuomo. Cowards! (though no surprise.)
I register as a Dem in order to vote in the primaries, especially the local ones in which few people vote.
PJ, I can’t help but be jealous that a you have a mail lady. On Shelter Island, as I have often bellyached , we have no mail delivery but for some reason we have two post offices and each one has a different zip code. Unfortunately, as everyone gets to choose in which post office to get a mail, they essentially choose their own zip code. We use the heights post office and so our mail must contain the word heights as well as zip code 11965. Leave anything out, and the mail is delivered to the Center, 11964. And they are very annoyed at that so, anytime they get an improperly addressed letter, they send it to the other post office with a snippy note about making sure people address mail to you properly.
But, the worst part is that there is a zip checking program that many businesses use that insists the zip for all of the island is 11964. I have spent much time trying to get to the supervisor who can override that program. Often takes months and many snippy notes.
And, that’s not all. If I order something online, I have to give my zip code because that is the billing address. And then I have to try explaining all this so they will ship my package without quibbling about where 11965 is.
Then there are the companies that weill not ship to a PO Box. Apple won;t send your new iphone to one. In that case you have to ship your pkg to a friend who then sends it to you.
And, of course with a system like this much mail goes astray.
So…I’ll take your mail problems anyday.
Do you try your extra 4 digits like mine 91422-3631? I ship packages almost every day and I always add the extra 4 digits if they are not included. Occasionally I encounter one that comes up as undeliverable and I have to decide to roll with just the 5 digits or dig in a little more.
You can’t really blame the USPS for companies who use UPS or FedEX who will not deliver to PO Boxes. I blame those companies for not giving me the option to have an order shipped via the USPS. It is usually faster if you aren’t paying extra for overnight. If I had the option I would choose the USPS every time.
I was addressing a package and had dutifully found the zip + 4. When our post mistress saw me writing it she told me they don’t do anything. In any case the extra 4 digits are a 0 followed by my PO box number.
I like the PO. I think they do a great job for a good price. But, Shelter Island is determined to prove that even in a tiny isolated place, things can be FUBAR.
Oh, I have no complaints about my mail person or about the USPS. I think it’s pretty remarkable that they basically touch every adress, commercial and residential (except in a few locations like yours, of course) something like 302 days per year. Try getting FedEx to send a letter across the country in two days for 45¢.
I think partnering with UPS and FedEx to do some of the “last mile” type deliveries was a great idea.
The only thing that’s less than ideal is the tracking for packages. There are sometimes some pretty big gaps where you don’t really know what’s going on. I guess I just got used to the up-to-the-minute tracking that UPS has (FedEx, too, though I think UPS is better, plus they’re union and FedEx is anti-union as far as I know).
Shelter Island participates in the UPS program that has UPS deliver the pkg to th PO for final delivery. Shelter Island style means I now pick up the package at the PO. Fortunately, large packages are still delivered directly to the house.
You are right about their tracking. I hope it will get better. On the other hand now their priority mail comes with tracking at no extra charge and $50 insurance at a competitive price. That has come in pretty handy for me.
Brain fatigue…. which button is the video button?
All we currently have running are the Tea-party R’s and each one is slamming Obamacare and the entitled masses. Langford is readily admitting he’s insane by advertising that he voted over 40 times to repeal Obamacare; his votes resulted in nothing changing. At what point are you supposed to try a different tact if your repeated behavior is not working? The mute button is getting heavy use when I’m watching the teevee.

A little part of my childhood just left this ole world. RIP Ann Davis.
(Wasn’t Shake and Bake a lot earlier than the ’80’s which that Vid says??)
I best remember her as Schulzy from the Bob Cummings Show. I guess I am that old. I never saw The Brady Bunch much beyond the theme song but I did get to spend a few days with ‘Marcia Brady’ and her family some years ago promoting her Country CD.
As for Shake and Bake, I remember a dormmate ridiculing their commercials when I was in college in the early 70s.
She was a good Christian woman.
Hate to tell you, sp, but we have the good old fashioned postal carrier who walks house to house, rain or shine.
I’m jealous. Neither rain nor snow nor gloom of night keeps any islander from his/her post offive box.
