Well, we got our first measurable snow yesterday. Not a lot, but enough to cover the grass. Looks like about an inch on top of my fake well thing that covers the septic vent. And the forecast for the next few days is snow, snow, snow, and snow. And kinda cold (though this will feel like a thaw in a couple of months). Fortunately, I had the good sense to take today off (really just trying to knock my vacation balance down a bit so that I’m under the max by the end of the year).
After one last bit of drama on Wednesday (I swear, cars know when you’re about to dump them), I finally got rid of my ten year old Hyundai Elantra and now have a Toyota Camry. I’m done with the Koreans, and figured I’d go with the Japs for a while (my Uncle Bill – who was on ships that were sunk not once but twice in the Pacific back during the Big One – is probably rolling in his drawer right now, though to be fair I owned not one but two Dodge-branded Mitsubishi pickups back when he was still alive and I don’t recall him being bothered by that). I think Uncle Bill harbored a certain amount of resentment toward the Japanese until the day he died (I suppose I can’t blame him. The propaganda was back then was rather vicious – as you might have noticed if you’ve ever watched any vintage Popeye cartoons – and they were kinda trying to kill him).
My dad was also on that side of the world during the war, but he never seemed to muscle up any hatred for anybody. Not even the monkey that jumped on his back and bit him in Burma or the mosquitoes that gave him malaria.
Anyhow, I guess I’d better get the chains on the tractor. I’ve been talking about it for quite a while, but it’s getting down to it, now. It’s just always such a struggle.
But then, what isn’t?
All Hell Breaks Loose On Ted Cruz’s FB Page As Conservatives Go On The Attack
But before you go getting all frustrated with this latest example of right-wing stupidity, I think I have something that will make you smile and brighten your day. And it comes from perhaps an unlikely source. Following Cruz’s Facebook post, even Republicans came out telling Teddy what a complete buffoon he is here.
I know that we on the left are used to lashing out at the Tea Party and Ted Cruzes in our country, but when even his own team is calling him out, it makes me think that maybe, just maybe, there is hope for this nation.
I’m surprised there are a few enlightened wingnuts out there – at least, on the subject of Net Neutrality. Sadly, I fear they are a tiny minority. And we know how Republicans feel about minorities.
I would be very surprised if those commentors were really wingnuts. Old Repubs have no idea what net neutrality is.
I think that in the ‘tech’ community there are a number of people who fancy themselves as repugs/libertarians who want to be unencucumbered by gubment.
The blog says I posted spam, so if you want to read about crazy Alex Jones supporting Cruz with another conspiracy theory you’ll have to click on the link.

Saturday catch up. Glad PJ got some new wheels to make his life easier. Very glad to see Palemale again. Hope Vern’s move goes swimmingly.
We’ve now had 8 days of a deep freeze. Today promises to warm a bit and then snow tomorrow. Even colder weather is to follow. My hope is the bugs were caught by surpise and were zapped. Many of the leaves on the trees are freeze-dried and haven’t dropped yet. We felt physically odd for the first few days of the cold weather since it hit suddenly.
Republicans and Tea Partiers fighting is always intertaining! Dumb and Dumber here we go!
OKat, I must say, the OK weather gets a lot of recognition in the national media I am dialed in to.
Lydia’s eulogy is also a good read.
(I can’t believe I made a stupid typo while calling others dumb. <– dunce hat)
‘Tis snowing! Some lady said on teevee, “It’s a wonderful time of year! …Deer season and cold weather!”
So here we go. I went and met with the folks who have the house I wanted in Vallejo and they called me a little while ago to say I got it. Whew! I now have two weeks to get the hell out of Dodge but it will be a lot easier knowing where I am bound. Now any mover or freight shipping (I’ve got a lot of rekkids, CDs, and books) recommendations and tips are welcome. Also storage suggestions. I am downsizing a little. Thanks for all of your help, support and sympathy!
That’s great news. Sucks you have to move, but it’s got to be a huge relief to know you have a place for yourself (and your stuff). Can’t help you with mover suggestions. You might want to look into a pod if you have time to load it up yourself and have a place where it can sit for a few days while you load/unload it.
Nice house. Congratulations. I have to pass on my grandma’s wisdom (admittedly she was a crazy person): Everything happens for the better. It may not seem that way right now, but it usually works out that way.
We have been trying to merge two houses into one ever since the flood. T’aint easy. Books were a big problem as I have books in Shelter Island and a whole (little) room of them in Brooklyn. The movers (local, cheap) brought 16 2′ X 4′ boxes here. I kept books I couldn’t get again and ones I loved, but I tried not to just love them all. The local used book store came and took 14 boxes. They will sell them and donate those that they don’t want.
There is still too much stuff, but I’m gradually weeding it out. It helps, I’ve found, if I can get homes for the stuff. Throwing thing in the garbage, that are useful or delightful is very very hard.
I did get the cement hippo from the garden in Brooklyn here so all is OK. Thank goodness for young, strong movers.
Hey, that’s a nice looking place. Get rid of that cat and you’ll be all set.
I didn’t notice the cat and the stroller but my sister did.
Hopefully they’ll leave the hose reel. They’re handy.
I’ll have to ask about that tomorrow when I go sign the lease and get the keys. I am guessing it went with the cat and the stroller. It could be a deal breaker. On the other hand, they did leave a dishwasher. I am one ferry ride from SF and Giants games. My discount makes the fare just a little more than the bridge tolls and that particular commute has been getting exceedingly worse at many different times in either direction.
Sweet looking house Vern
