Welcome to the shortest day of the year. Up here the winter solstice officially happened at about 11:50 last night, and the day today will be slightly shorter than yesterday (less than a second, in fact). And the warm weather (Santa’s gonna have to wear shorts and a t-shirt Thursday, with temperatures expected to hit 70 around here) has so far taken the sting out of the lack of daylight. Tomorrow we get 4 seconds more daylight than today. Not much, but we’ll take it.
I seem to have contracted some sort of disease. It hit me Saturday, and by Sunday I was feeling pretty awful. Even worse yesterday (which I had already luckily scheduled a vacation day for), as I spent the whole day in bed. Not sleeping, really, but just trying not to move my head. I’ve been blowing blood out of my head, and I have a nasty, painful, dry cough (also bringing up some rusty stuff). Oh, and a sore throat, of course. I feel better today, but not really all that great. At least I was able to drag myself into work.
I’m fairly used to not feeling good, but it’s pretty unusual for me to actually get sick. I really don’t like it and I hope it goes away soon, though this feels like it’s gonna be a lingerer.
Boy, that sounds like a nasty one, pj. Feel better!
It’s so warm here that I’m thinking of cranking on the air conditioner Christmas morning so we can at least feel a chill in the air. Of course, we may get snow over the weekend. Damn roller coaster weather. I’m just not in the Christmas spirit this year. Losing our matriarch has squelched all my desire for festivities.
I know how you feel. My mom used to insist that we make a big deal out of every holiday. With no kids of my own, it was never all that big a deal to me, but after she died, I completely stopped caring. Except I’m happy to have the day off, of course.
Have you given up oregan-oil? I was just thinking about it.
No. In fact, I’ve been taking it prophyllactically every day. I’ve been uber-dosing myself the past few day, so hopefully it’ll knock this out. I feel better but still pretty crappy. No doubt a sinus infection (I’m kind of prone to those) and who knows what is in my lungs. All I know is my ribs are killing me from coughing.
I’d go to the doctor but, you know, I can’t get one to give me an appointment.
Sounds awful PJ. And why are you used to feeling sick? I hope the extra 4 seconds of sunshine make you feel better.
We have had a rather hectic week. Among other things, Mike hit a deer. He wasn’t going more than 35 mph but it was very dark. The deer just darted out. It kept running so hopefully it is OK. The car suffered a broken headlight lens. And my 13 year old car went for an oil change and we discovered it needed rear brake pads, rotors, calipers and a tie rod. But the great news is that a bump we had removed from Lola’s leg last Wednesday was benign.
Glad Lola’s OK. There’s enough bad news in the world.
It’s 6:35 in the AM. In about 45 minutes the sunwill rise. And it’s 55 degrees out. But….Merry Christmas, Happy Festivus a joyful Kwanza and any other thing you may be celebrating on this very unseasonable day.
