 :yippee: RG & PJ :yippee:
Congratulatons, PJ and RG. I this Violet’s little brother? I’m glad Calvin and his mom are doing well.
Senator John McCain was not in a “cone of silence” on Saturday night while his rival, Senator Barack Obama, was being interviewed at the Saddleback Church in California… The matter is of interest because Mr. McCain, who followed Mr. Obama’s hourlong appearance in the forum, was asked virtually the same questions as Mr. Obama. Mr. McCain’s performance was well received, raising speculation among some viewers, especially supporters of Mr. Obama, that he was not as isolated during the Obama interview as Mr. Warren implied.
(snip)
Mr. Warren, the pastor of Saddleback, had assured the audience while he was interviewing Mr. Obama that “we have safely placed Senator McCain in a cone of silence” and that he could not hear the questions… Interviewed Sunday on CNN, Mr. Warren seemed surprised to learn that Mr. McCain was not in the building during the Obama interview.

How a day can change so early. First, I am waiting in dread for Cokie to do her Monday morning blather on NPR and turns out she’s away.
:pup:
Then I am waiting for this page to DL looking at what I thought was a picture of Rush Limpaw’s cigar and it turns out to be baby news.
Congratulations and best to all! I like that name Calvin.
:cake:

The post office just called me. Now that’s service!
:pup:
What the NY Times had to say:
Senator John McCain was not in a “cone of silence†on Saturday night while his rival, Senator Barack Obama, was being interviewed at the
Members of the McCain campaign staff, who flew here Sunday from California, said Mr. McCain was in his motorcade on the way to the church as Mr. Obama was being interviewed by the Rev. Rick Warren, the author of the best-selling book “The Purpose Driven Life.â€
What McShame’s spokeperson had to say:
“The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous,â€
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/18/us/politics/18mccain.html?adxnnl=1&ref=todayspaper&adxnnlx=1219089953-hGi2Eb4bf6t3Pnr/RxHgpQ
I wonder if being a prisoner of war makes one absolutely honest or is a license to lie.
What I want to know is, do Mel Brooks and Buck Henry get royalties every time someone refers to the “Cone of Silence?”
:rofl2:
Tim Mooring: We need at least an autopsy in the death of Dr. Bruce Ivins
The circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Ivins needs to be thoroughly investigated. Maryland state “health officials” have apparently ruled his death a suicide without even performing an autopsy — deeming it unnecessary as a blood sample sufficed to show the cause of death. Are CSI fans watching the show just to view the commercials? This is a most ridiculous finding. It leaves unanswered critical medical questions such as: How were the toxins introduced into his system? When were the toxins introduced? You can’t know the answer to the second question without addressing the first — and that can’t be done without a full autopsy.
Vern,
thanks for the email, sorry I didn’t get back to you it’s been a madhouse around here.
Congratulations PJ and Granny! :pup: Hopefully Calvin Michael can help us out of this mess some day! :cat:
AAR press release but nothing on Maron v. Seder
Air America Announces Convention Coverage: “A VOICE we can believe in”
August 15, 2008 – Air America Media is traveling to both the Democratic National Convention in Denver, and, yes, the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Air America hosts Rachel Maddow, Thom Hartmann, David Bender and Sam Seder will be reporting live from both venues, featuring interviews and analysis with top newsmakers, opinion makers and bloggers. Chuck D., Richard Greene, and Jon Elliott will also be reporting from Denver, and the irreverent Lionel from Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Plans for the Democratic National Convention, taking place August 25-28 in Denver, include:
— The Thom Hartmann Program” (weekdays 12-3pm EST) and “The Rachel Maddow Show” (weekdays 6-9pm EST), both broadcasting live from Denver.
— “Convention: Special Team Coverage” airs all four nights of the convention beginning at 8pm EST, featuring Maddow, Hartmann, Mark Green, David Bender and special guests discussing the daily happenings on and off the convent ion floor.
— Air America’s Web site editor-in-chief Sam Seder is blogging live from both Denver and Minneapolis, posting text, audio and video updates to http://www.airamerica.com throughout the conventions.
— Air America’s Web site, http://www.airamerica.com, will also feature live audio streaming from the podium of the evening’s Convention proceedings.
Plans for the Republican National Convention, taking place September 1-4 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, include AAR’s outspoken liberal hosts reporting from the decidedly conservative convention:
— “The Lionel Show” (weekdays 9am-12pm EST), “The Thom Hartmann Program,” “The Rachel Maddow Show” and David Bender will be broadcasting live from Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Was that an exploding cigar?
Lincoln Karim is going to the conventions and so no regular photos of the wildlife of Manhattan until he returns.
Congrats Granny and PJ on #2!! :cake: :slap: :boobs:
With 2 teens around, Im thinking that grandparenthood is the only way to go! and this not-in-the-same-state thing seems pretty excellent if compare heard how my sister guilts my mom into doing everything for her kids all the time…
In any case, I know they will be a joy to you in the coming years, and you will enjoy them visiting and then coming east for college and rooming with you!!…;-)…
Anyway, I wanted to let you all know that I saw Marc last nite and posted a review at ripcoco and brilliant at breakfast, both on the roll to the right.
As sammy said: stay tuned for announcements…and there is gonna be a maron v. seder during that week…so thats good news.
Ill take whatever I can get here in Manhattan, away from home, taking care of a very, very frail 98 year old grandpa, who shows no signs of exactly resolving this thing one way or another…though his mind is pretty good….very sharp.
Im just tired….but tremendously glad to be able to have this time with him, the good and the bad…i just miss home and my life.
Hey Melina, nice to see you here.
Being a caregiver is not easy. I hope things get better.
hey sue…that was a hit and run…Im SO exhausted that Im non functioning. Just wanted ot get the Maron thing up while it was still warm from the oven…the rest is just in drafts and dusty old news while time ticks by…
Its actually very very nice here and Im not complaining about the knowledge and adventure of this experience….Im just homesick…
anyway…Im off…leave comments on the posts…and Ill be back. will try to do some opening stuff as things settle down here…ha! keep telling myself that!
I heard Danny Gold Blech on NPR today. I wasn’t listening to what he was talking about…packing for a trip but my skin crawled nonetheless.
Fortunately Scott Simon balanced out the situation. :cat:
Will write from Jolly old… :knit:
…Jolly Old Saint Nicholas? Chris Kringle-land? :santacool:
