So, Granny left very early this morning (more like last night), on her way to Minneapolis to see Violet and Calvin (and the rest of the gang), and maybe get arrested at the RNC next week. Hopefully not. Too bad she’s not flying. I’d like to get a report on how the installation of floor to ceiling toilet partitions in the airport rest rooms is going (not sure if the ladies require the same “love barricades” that the gents need – we are a rather amorous bunch – or not). With all the Republicans coming to town, I hope they’ve got those things in place. I also hear all the hotel rooms with extra large closets have been booked for months. You think that porcine-faced Republican lady with all the purple heart band aids will be back again this year? Or maybe they could pass out POW tiger cage hats for everybody to wear. That’d be good for some yucks, huh?
Speaking of the midwest and the audacity of hope and all, Syracuse is in Chicago (Evanston, actually) to take on Northwestern at noon, my time. Yes, hope springs (or in this case, falls) eternal, and we are still undefeated as I write this. That may change by about 3:00 or so, and SU is about an 11 point underdog (started at 12, but apparently even at almost two touchdowns, nobody was jumping on the ‘cuse). It’s getting so bad that ESPN feels obliged to talk about how much we suck. Do they pile on to other teams that suck like that? Or is it just because of all the SU alum sportscasters out there, trying to look impartial (you know, the way Maureen Dowd likes to shit on every Democrat to prove she’s not one of those ‘librul media’ types)?
In a touch of irony, it was Northwestern’s Ryan Field that was used to film most of the football scenes in The Express (the upcoming movie about Ernie Davis), because it resembles SU’s old Archbold Stadium (a lot more than Dennis Quaid resembles Ben Schwartzwalder).
So, maybe Syracuse will surprise me and not suck. Not getting my hopes up (much). At least I’ll be able to holler and cuss at the teevee without disturbing anybody but the dogs (when the older one sees SU take the field, he’ll probably say “oh, shit, not football season again,” and slowly slink his way into another room).
I guess I can always turn off the game and play Madden ’09. I had the Eagles beat the Bills 87-0 the other day, and Donovan McNabb had 823 yards passing and I can’t remember how many TDs. That was fairly satisfying (I still don’t know what I’m doing with this game; I just kind of push all the buttons at once and see what happens).
Unfortunately, the bed gets kinda cold and lonely when the wife’s away. Maybe I can put the corn husk pillows in the microwave for a few minutes before I go to bed. Just isn’t the same though.
Anyhow, have a good Saturday. Maybe we’ll hear from Granny on the road.
Charlie Rose- A conversation with Governors Janet Napolitano & Sarah Palin
General Election (2008 tentative dates)
:blech:
Here’s a 50 year ld woman from Alaska, who has an interesting blog. She writes about Sarah Palin. Very interesting. There’s a picture of place where Palin was the mayor. (population 5500) and Alska has a population of 1/2 million and yet there are enough of them to have a bible belt:
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/what-is-mccain-thinking-one-alaskans-perspective/
ccording to both the Aug. 29 Anchorage Daily News and the June 13 Colorado Springs Gazette, Sarah Palin became John McCain’s vice presidential candidate largely through the machinations of someone even younger and less experienced than herself. From the Anchorage Daily News:
The hype can probably be traced to the Web site of a 21-year-old college senior majoring in political science at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. Adam Brickley, a political buff who will graduate in May, started a “Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President” blog last year and has relentlessly promoted the idea ever since.

I just figured out the meaning of being “on the ugly American tour”. I can hardly imagine what being overseas feels like with how our deplorable national image has imbued throughout the masses.
I’m still figuring out the orchestra in the nose thing
Was the movie Maron was in “Almost Famous”?
Maybe :sammy:
Was, was is playing over, over in my head.
EPA is Hiding Colony Collapse Disorder Information
WASHINGTON – August 18 – The Natural Resources Defense Council filed a lawsuit today to uncover critical information that the US government is withholding about the risks posed by pesticides to honey bees. NRDC legal experts and a leading bee researcher are convinced that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has evidence of connections between pesticides and the mysterious honey bee die-offs reported across the country. The phenomenon has come to be called “colony collapse disorder,” or CCD, and it is already proving to have disastrous consequences for American agriculture and the $15 billion worth of crops pollinated by bees every year.
I wonder if Tom Delay had anything to do with that
Oh, that was from Monty Python. Except I think it was actually “with a tape recorder up his nose.”
I am stealing this from Fernando in Sederland
What is McCain Thinking? One Alaskan’s Perspective.
A pretty good wrap.
Doogan use to write for the Anchorage daily news.
So, Gustav is a Cat 3 now, and getting ready to womp Havana on its way into to the Gulf. It’s relatively small, at least. And Hanna is looking to sneak in the back door.

The Killing in Alaska Continues
Crying wolf
But Sarah Palin (the new Alaskan governor) has taken over where Murkowski left off. She has issued even more permits to allow more wolves to be shot in even greater numbers in more areas.
:yippee: Hello from The Road, Bloggies :yippee:
Stopped at the first Ohio Turnpike Service Plaza past Cleveland for lunch & to catch up on the doings of the day before my laptop battery dies. They have a very nice Panera’s at this plaza and it’s nice & cool in here
So far, so good. Very hot :hot: here in Ohio & PJ sez it’s 88 in Minneapolis. I just hope driving around Chicago won’t be the major pain in the ass it usually is. It should be pretty late by the time I get there and PJs trusty Nuvi wouldn’t steer me wrong.
I changed the Australian broad’s voice to the Australian guy’s voice — he sounds way cuter than she does 😉
Well, carry on, Bloggies. I’ll check in again when I get to Minnesota or before if I can.
:fist: A!I!V! :fist:
Gotta hit the road :jesus:
I am waiting for the big ad with the fake voice reminiscent of NFL Films saying something like “For almost two years on the front as Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has prevented any Russian invasions of the United States, not even one.â€

Actually, one of last night’s Worst Persons on KO was Steve Doocy (sp?) of Fox & Friends claiming something much like that. He might have been joking, but with Fox it’s hard to tell sometimes.
But at least if elected, Palin will be qualified to carry on the vice-presidential tradition of shooting people in the face. One of the few VP duties she seems to be qualified to handle.
OK, I kinda stole that last one from Bill Maher. Think of it as a tribute – I’m happy his show is back. 😀
Craig Ferguson was good on Maher last night, I thought.
Palin pushed through a tax increase on oil companies and then used the money to give each Alaskan $1200.
Is that the Republican way? Or is that the dreaded socialism?
How about a tax increase for drug compainies and the money given to people who don’t have drug coverage.
I think the only comment I’ve ever posted on the Seder vs Maron site was about that. Completely not worth the effort because it was swept under the rug out of site and out of mind.
The wingnuts are saying that Palin’s experience is executive (thus better than Obama’s). Does McInane have executive experience? (Aside from being a POW, of course.)
Travis, now the Rethugs have nominated someone who supports that kind of thing. Perhaps Palin will take up the cause.
The only reason that is happening is because the economic system is broken in this country and that state is beyond wealthy with oil and mine resources. Nothing really to champion unless you’re trying to deceive and pander to people.
$ 6-700 a month for heating oil
Submitted by travisdem04 on Wed, 06/11/2008 – 3:40pm.
Gov. Palin (R- Alaska) proposed a $1.2 billion program to grant relief through a two-part plan, one being a fuel debit card worth $100 a month for 12 months issued to permanent fund dividend recipients, and a second that would provide grants to utilities that would have them reduce utility costs to consumers by 60 percent.
I use to hear people joke about Alaska seceding and being able to sustain its self by selling its natural resources and then moving into tourism once they were depleted.
Of course when the US becomes independent of foreign oil and heavily into renewable energy, the world’s environment will tremendously benefit from the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. At least that’s what’s been touted. What’s to stop developing countries from buying oil at a reduced price once the demand is lowered. That’s why we are starting to hear just about the national security aspect not the environmental. Somehow we have to invent carbon sequestration for all cars and power generation plants and have a greater diplomatic influence in the developing world, promoting the idea that oil is too valuable to burn.
#30, travisdemo4.
I think I remember seeing that one. It is a pretty cool kidzy place over there. I always laugh when I see some there try to pass it that that is the way this peaceful little blog is. I just watched them savage a few folks who might not be back in the last few weeks.
If Seder (and Maron) had a better information delivery system on what they were up to, I would be more than happy to never look at it again.
Hey, Vern, if you gave me 3,300 dollars, I’d approve 80%.
The PFD is amazing. I probably wouldn’t have a college future without it.

(I got this message from Gail Lieberman. She posted it on one of Susan Joy’s myspace group bulletins.)

Susan Joy’s mother called me and told me there will be an unveiling for her on the above date [September 21]. It’s in Staten Island and she is going to send me an invitation. I would really like to go. I will post the address info of the cemetary when I get it. There will be a Rabbi at the ceremony.
Her mother said it would be ok to invite her friends.
I don’t have a car so if anyone plans to go that does have a car, I would greatly appreciate a lift if its not too much out of your way.
But if need be, I will take a car service as this is very important. Esp since we tried to make a shivah call but her mother wasnt home so never got to meet her and her family. I think it would mean a lot to her mother.
