Welcome to October! Happy New Year and post season for all of you baseball fans.
The playoffs will look a little different with some new teams involved and the possibility of an all Chicago or an all LA region World Series in the offing. Fortunately, the demise of the Twins has spared us the specter of an all dome Fall Classic and we could have a match up in two of the greatest old yards in the game, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. Since there are no NY teams involved the coverage in the media might be akin to that of a third party candidate running for president.
A rebirth today with the debut of the new, shiny Maron v. Seder on line brought to you by Air America five days a week with Marc on the road until the election. From what we have been seeing in the teaser videos, it looks like the show should be a lot different in content and format from what we have been seeing. I don’t think they would need Brendan McDonald to launch the same old SammyCam version.
Just in time for Thursday night’s veep debate which could offer endless possibilities for ridicule and distractions for the rest of the campaign. My guess is the BlogFather might crank up another chat tomorrow night. In these crazy last 5 weeks before the election it will be great to have Marc and Sam weighing in on the happenings of the day on a regular basis.
Tune in today at mvslive.com 3 PM Eastern, Noon Pacific and see the premiere episode. Hopefully some of the dedicated archivists will be capturing the program until it is certain that AAR can reliably deliver audio and video podcasts.
Good luck to Marc and Sam in the new venture!
I tried to register to pay for the podcast at mvs- not active yet. Nothing at AAR except a short interview. WTF?
Copied from Tuesday’s thread:
So, Jeff was just now talking about a monument to surrender and John McCain is the subject of that monument.
That’s a monument to the shooting down of John McCain that still exists near Truc Bach Lake in Vietnam (formerly North Vietnam). The inscription reads “On October 26, 1967, Lt. John McCain in his A4 B1 was shot down in this lake.†The picture shows Lt. John McCain surrendering. It does not show the plane that was destroyed during this incident. Nor does it show any of the three other Navy planes that John McCain destroyed during his lackluster career as a pilot.

Is it just me, or does the figure on that monument have breasts? Call me a perv, and you certainly wouldn’t be the first, but those are some serious boobices on that thing. And not just old-age man-boobs like Grampy has now.
Maybe that’s why Lieberman and Lindsey Graham follow him around like puppies.
And wouldn’t the perfect theme song for the McCain campaign be Cheap Trick doing “Surrender?” Except that McCain gives himself away. Every day.
Krista, I hope you kick ass at your interview. Not literally. Unless you have to, of course. 😀
OK, get ready to get nauseous!
The Senate, in order to get more wingnuts to vote for the bailout, added substantial tax cuts:
The Senate measure will graft the bailout language to a tax bill it approved last week, on a 93-2 vote. It includes: a provision to prevent more than 20 million middle-class taxpayers from feeling the bite of the alternative minimum tax, $8 billion in tax relief for those hit by natural disasters in the Midwest, Texas and Louisiana and some $78 billion in renewable energy incentives and extensions of expiring tax breaks.
:jerk: the :sheep: “le to create the illusion that this isn’t going to cost them anything just to get through the election :fustrate:
I’ve always thought that when you find hyourself in a hole, at the very least, you should stop digging. But, the cringing congress critters, Dems and Rethugs, just dig faster.
morning!
:bee: still a few around!
bird song this morning in the garden.
squirls rounding up the last apples and working the hazelnuts.
the fatcats in gummint looking more like rats running in their wheel thingies.

Sarah Palin plays the flute for the talent competition. Vernon, I apologize, in advance, for the sounds you will hear.
They are already up and testing. Looks almost prefessional. Real helpers and everything.
Is there a different link or is it the sammycam?
It is not the Sammy Cam. Try any of the above links
I am on both of the one’s I posted up above on 2 diffenent apple products :omg:
Okay I got it.
It looks and sounds good.
They don’t have the IM open though.
It looks great.
Sarah Palin DID mean Biden was old because she used the word “like” as if she was a valley girl from 1982.
Interview went well, he seemed impressed with my work. But it’s a contract position and probably won’t start for a couple of weeks.
Marc’s making scones, maybe I should make an apple pie for America.
ok…we have seen these promos that’s not why we are here..
:knit:
i meant there
Is it just me or does the world feel a little better now
that Maron and Seder are on air again every day?
Even without the scones.
Maron looks happy. They both need the platform. Nice to see Brandon, too.
I mean “Brendan!”
Well, I guess it must not work from where I work, ‘cuz I got nothin’. Oh well, sucks to be me, I guess.
Did it start early or was it only 40 minutes. I got back from my interview right at noon.
I had to reboot my computer so I missed the first few minutes but it ran only 45 minutes or so. Saw it for free from the samsedershow.com link. Looks much better than the Sammy Cam. Marc made scones.
cigar scones
This link works best

I don’t know how I got there but I just saw it with vidcast and chat side by side.
I liked the scones part. The French put ashes in their cheese, don’t they?
The Canadians put french fries in their cheese, homefry.
more funny :knit:
is that our fred in the comments?

baseball anyone? :knit:
Baseball indeed! I managed to go online during my afternoon break and score a ticket to Thursday’s sold-out Rays playoff game!
I’ll get off work at 1 PM and head downtown for the 2:35 start at the Trop. The seat isn’t that great, but who cares? The Rays are in the FRICKIN’ PLAYOFFS! AL EAST CHAMPIONS!!!

Maron vs. Seder sounded good today, at least the part I got to listen to when I wasn’t being dragged away from my desk. Way to go, guys. 😀
Proving limit problems are pissing me off! I haven’t been able to find an explicit approach to doing them and explanations in class have yet be beneficial. Example problems in the book are shit! Piss and shit!
I need some air.
All of this sports talk is not going to bring fred back.
Never been much of a baseball fan, myself. Going to a game is fun – just for the people watching. But baseball is kinda like 17 minutes of action packed into 3.5 hours. I always thought they should cover baseball on TV like they do golf.
In golf, they switch to where something’s actually about to happen.
They should do that with baseball.
I mostly like the statistics on his 538 page. :knit:
And now for something completely different found while hunting for Farmerkat
Yeah, baseball is a great sport to follow from the newspaper. I love to dig into the box scores for all sports, really (being a geek and all). Not SU football these days, though. It’s pretty appalling.
The game has changed but there are still those long action gaps that were a lot of its charm. Sadly, they seem to be obsessed with filling in those times now with everything they jam into every slack moment or space in our lives, trying to sell or tell us something or ‘entertain’ us.
I liked the respites that used to be part of the experience. I think the last real silence I heard at a game was after the 1989 earthquake at the World Series. For that matter, the one beautiful thing about that evening was the silence that ensued for a long time.
Meanwhile, the Senate has passed their version of the bailout.
shakin’ in her mukluks…
So, I went and canvassed today. The people that do the work are pretty evenly mixed as far as race. Blacks, whites and hispanics. And in the van on the way back to the office everyone is talking about their experiences. I am starting to notice that the colored folk seem to have waaay more negative experiences than me, a white girl. So far we’ve been in predominently white neighborhoods in Snottsdale. Most people that actually answer the door for me are pretty polite and even nice. There’s a few that are a little annoyed and 1 or 2 that are slightly rude. But the blacks and hispanics seem to get outright rudeness and a couple of black girls last night were stalked and threatened. I’ve known that Arizona is pretty racist, I know about driving while black or hispanic and heard the statistics about the unfairness of treatment in society etc. But these people experience this shit, probably every day of their lives. I’ve had a few incidences being a woman doing “mens” jobs but not like what these people go through their whole lives. It sickens me and I’m embarrassed to be white. I wish I could fix it. I’m hoping that an Obama presidency will alleviate it. There is so much pressure on him. Why are we still so fucking racist?? 🙁
