Two weeks to go until Election Day. It’ll be nice to get it over with, assuming the Republicans don’t steal it again. And hopefully the Democrats can take total command of both the House and Senate, too. Then we can sit back and bitch about how nothing has changed and they all suck.
According to the NY Times/CBS poll…
As voters have gotten to know Senator Barack Obama, they have warmed up to him, with more than half, 53 percent, now saying they have a favorable impression of him and 33 percent saying they have an unfavorable view. But as voters have gotten to know Senator John McCain, they have not warmed, with only 36 percent of voters saying they view him favorably while 45 percent view him unfavorably.
Even voters who are planning to vote for Mr. McCain say their enthusiasm has waned….
…the percentage of those who hold a favorable opinion of Mr. Obama is up 10 points since last month. Opinion of Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., Mr. Obama’s running mate, is also up, to 50 percent last weekend from 36 percent in September.
[…]
Mr. Obama’s favorability is the highest for a presidential candidate running for a first term in the last 28 years of Times/CBS polls. Mrs. Palin’s negative rating is the highest for a vice-presidential candidate as measured by The Times and CBS News. Even Dan Quayle, with whom Mrs. Palin is often compared because of her age and inexperience on the national scene, was not viewed as negatively in the 1988 campaign.
Whether it sounds cynical or not, I think Obama’s decision to take a couple of days off to go visit his (likely) dying grandmother will only make people feel more favorably towards him. Especially all those grandmothers in Florida.
It all comes down to voter suppression and electronic voting machines now, which means everybody needs to get out there and vote. Especially those of you out there in states where Obama is up by less than 5%.
Now is the time when I just worry. Obama should win but there are those Rethugs, with their clever election stealing ways.
On the other hand, in Michigan and Ohio the Dems managed to thwart the Rethug suppression plans. So, perhaps there is hope.
Today is the day of the monthly boring conference. It makes for a long day with little to show for it. But, I get extra pay to sit through it, so I’ll try to be grateful.
The hate crimes have begun.

Dead bear covered with Obama signs left at WCU
Geez!! Number 3?
Oh well
Concerns about deployment of military on U.S. soil growing — while mainstream media buries its head in the sand: Naomi Wolf
The following is the spin of military spokespeople in response to questions about the deployment of the First Brigade on US soil for the first time in over 200 years.
The Army Times initially reported that the First Brigade would handle domestic crowd control and subduing ‘unruly individuals’ and that they had ‘lethal and nonlethal technologies’ to do so. Then it issued a correction declaring that the ‘nonlethal’ package was not for domestic crowd control. Then after a hue and cry was raised by many citizens, Northern Command (NorthCom) offered a wholesale revision of their mission – and the mainstream media is eating it up. Here is an excerpt from the articled linked to in the previous sentence:
Despite conspiracy theories that this could be a first step toward martial law in the U.S., there won’t be tanks on Main Street or active-duty troops putting down demonstrations. That is barred by federal law banning the military from being used on U.S. soil for domestic law enforcement.
Instead, the soldiers of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga., have been training to back up civilian authorities in providing medical care and dealing with chemical, biological, high explosive or nuclear attack.

Fox v. Fox.
Long day. Stupid conference. Another Fedex story.
I had a package shipped to me from Texas. I tried to contact the sender to ask that another carrier be used but couldn’t. But, I was able to have the package delivered to Shelter Island on the theory that they would NOT deliver it without a signature, which the sender required.
In the City, if a Fedex package requires a signature, the Fedex driver signs it and leaves it on the front door. Not a good idea in Brooklyn.
It was delivered today to Shelter Island. I was not home. The Fedex driver signed for it and left it on the door step. It is going to rain.
I called Fedex. Fedex lady said the driver will retrieve the package tomorrow and take it back to the facility. I asked why the driver signed for the package and she said, “He probably meant to write the location where he left it and signed your name by mistake.”
Have I mentioned that I hate Fedex?
I’m sure McLame could find a place for this guy in his campaign. Perhaps he could register new voters for them. It would certainly help them to empathize with the Acorn guys.
badass

Five surgeons from big cities are discussing who makes the best patient to
operate on:
The first surgeon from New York says, ‘I like to see Accountants on my
Operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is
numbered.’
The second, from Chicago , responds, ‘Yeah, but you should try
Electricians! Everything inside them is color coded.’
The third surgeon, from Dallas , says, ‘No, I really think Librarians are
The best, Everything inside them is in alphabetical order.’
The fourth surgeon, from Los Angeles chimes in: ‘You know,
I like Construction workers…those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over.’
But the fifth surgeon, from Washington , DC , shut them all up when he
observed:
‘You’re all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on.
There’s no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine,
And the head and the ass are interchangeable.’
Not much point in starting a new thread at this rate, so I’ll just say good morning and happy hump day here. Plus, there’s a Woot Off going on.
embed the family guy show from sunday please 😀
No new thread? I miss your morning post, PJ.
But, I’m ready for work even though it is very dark outside. I can’t wait for us to go back on standard time. A little morning sunlight goes a long way. Besides, we get to sleep an hour later….well sometimes. Trying to explain to the dogs that the clock has changed has never been a successful endeavor of mine.
I also get to deal with Fedex again. Will they really retrieve the package and hold it for me? I’ll let you know. Meanwhile off to the Bronx and the insanity of the NYC school system.
Gimme an ‘F’!
The bar-tailed godwit, a plump shorebird with a recurved bill, has blown the record for nonstop, muscle-powered flight right out of the sky.
A study being published today reports that godwits can fly as many as 7,242 miles without stopping in their annual fall migration from Alaska to New Zealand. The previous record, set by eastern curlews, was a 4,000-mile trip from eastern Australia to China.

Fedex!
Nice Fedex lady called this morning and said that the driver would retrieve the package and hold it for me. I will call later to see if they actually did what they said.
Nice Fedex lady. I still hate Fedex.
The reaction from leaders of organizations that work with federal employees to the announced resignation of Scott J. Bloch, the besieged U.S. special counsel, can be summed up in two words:
Good riddance.
“Mr. Bloch destroyed the credibility of the Office of Special Counsel,” said Mark Roth, general counsel of the American Federation of Government Employees. “He committed more prohibited personnel practices in the unwarranted purge of numerous OSC [Office of Special Counsel] career staffers than he deterred.

The office describes its mission as “protecting federal employees and applicants from prohibited personnel practices, especially reprisal for whistleblowing.”
snip
“His term has been marked by continuing controversies, including claims by his own employees that he has violated the very laws the OSC is charged with enforcing,” said Colleen M. Kelley, president of the National Treasury Employees Union

Just in case you have become blissfully unaware that Bushco is still in charge, at least fo another 89 days.
More Fedex:
Nice Fedex lady called to say the package has been retrieved and is awaiting me on Friday. So, we shall see what happen Friday.
I still think that if Fedex agreed to get a signature, that having the driver sign my name is not what is meant by that agreement. Perhaps Fedex has Sarah Palin, fresh from interpreting the constitutional role of the veep, interpret their delivery contract.
A fucking “dead Heat”!?! :growl: :omg:
I just heard this on air america.
How can this be possible?
They are going to steal this one too. :tap:
Yeah, AP poll, saw it here. Don’t know if it’s just an outlier or what. This composite shows it at Obama +7%.
:dancers:
Okay, I put my Obama yard sign up. I wanted a t shirt too but they were $20. I gotta pay Qwest first.
The Associated Press has released a poll that shows a much closer race than any other poll out there.
—
But, the poll doesn’t make sense on many levels. Here’s one example: 45% of this poll’s respondents are evangelicals or born-again Christians

You know, it’s probably good that people think it’s close. That way they won’t get complacent and they will work harder to get him elected. As I have been canvassing, people seem to be much more interested in finding out information about the candidates and educating themselves. They seem to be waking up.
I wish they would have seen the importance in 2004, though. :smack: :tap: But Kerry turned out to be a dud. Though he would have been better than Bush, obviously.
:cake: :omg: 😮
Happy Birthday Timothy
In 2000, Gore was a dud too. I guess I will blame LIEberman and running away from Clinton. I can’t say I am too impressed with Big Al’s efforts of late either.
Did Sarah get punked by her wardrobe consultant? (check out the scarf)
