I have to admit, I watched the Oscar’s last night. Or, I had them on as I sat and tried to bang out the crappy paper I’m supposed to be finishing up by class tonight. I saw that the guy who played Edward R. Murrow didn’t win. Too bad. I didn’t Capote, but “Good Night and Good Luck” was a really good movie that made we wish we still had real, courageous journalists. Oh well, I have so much other stuff I’m supposed to be doing, that I can’t tell what’s what anymore. I hate this stuff.
On the bright side, there’s no Clipper’s game tonight, and UCLA isn’t playing either, so (unless there’s some other goddamn sports team they cover) Marc’s show ought to start on time tonight (don’t worry, there’s another Clippers game tomorrow). So, let’s see what Morning Seditionists get on the show (or at least get a mention) tonight. Now, if I can just get through another day.
holy shit its monday ya bastards new maron!!!!! ok well someone e-mail me tonights show im off to north dakota maybe i will get to check in later ok well im out later sheeple!
MiniNova seems to have torrents for most of AAR’s shows
just search for the Artist.. err.. whatever..

Tillman was killed by the US military .. reliable sources( Riley’s blog) report that
Tillman was against the Iraq war. He had a meeting planned with Noam Chomsky. That’s likely the reason he was killed.
Was he against the war before he went or was it a conclusion that came from being a ranger? It seems silly that he would have left the NFL and enlisted for something he didn’t support…Either way…it’s tragic that he died…just moreso if the asses in the army did it.

Can you try a foreign journalist for publishing “classified” information in foreign news media ?? It would seem most of the info we get is from the British Press anyhow. Then there is always the Moscow news ( AKA Pravda) and Algazerra.
:bong:Hey man, I don’t mean to change the subject, but my nose really irritates me. I mean, I’m probably losing a significant percentage of my field of vision with it being there!:doh:Doesn’t this loss bother you, sheeple?
Andy Rooney should do a segment on this topic:nod:
Caffiene…:40:
Well Travis I would suppose that…
if everything you focus on is two inches in front of your face the presence of your nose may present a significant problem. I wouldn’t suggest driving in that state though,
Travis!
Where ya been, buddy?
Maybe I should lay off the drugs. That’s probably what it is that is bothersome:40:
No, really. Looking at your keyboard all day and night, you see your nose all the time. I’m just getting a little tired of it:growl::rofl2:
I’ve been asleep. snoozin’ it!
Don’t worry, I’m not going to pull a Picasso with my nose. Chill, it’s cool.
I like cashews
Good morning everyone-
Yeah, I watched ’em too…I had to do paperwork so I had them on. I thought John Stewart did great…considering what it is…Its not like there is a whole lot of room there for anythign all that clever.
I liked the bjork’s dress joke…
Oprah is having John on this afternoon…not a show I usually watch but it might be interesting today.
Travis, dont get strange about your nose…I think that Michael Jackson was having those sorta thoughts before he started down the long nose road!
morning!
i, too, watched the show (but not the commercials). PJ, I felt bad for Bacall, too. Age can be so undignified. Meryl Streep and Lilly Tomlin were my favorite part. but i liked clooney too and did you think crash should get best pict? the bjork thing was good
thought the whole thing was rather subdued, i thought
ENOUGH with distractions!
KEVIN => i was joking, too. no need for an apology to me!
So, how are people’s stream capturing strategies working out? I finally got a good one on Saturday morning after grabbing three hours’ worth in 15-minute segments using Linux. Thankfully, though, somebody’s posting .torrent files for all of them, if anything goes wrong.
IIRC, he signed up after 9/11 to fight al Qaeda, but he thought Iraq was nonsense.
My capture of the Fri night show went off without a problem. Hopefully KTLK now has a stable enough stream where it won’t crap out so much. It would be interesting to know how many people have been connecting to their stream for Maron, and how that compares to al their other shows.
I didn’t watch the oscars but from the article in the NYTimes it sounded like Clooney was being a wee bit too self important talking about how great hollywood is. Sort of like sean penn was last year after chris rock made that statement about jude law.
i heard this story on npr but had a deuce of a time finding it. They’re allowing secret testimony by the Israelis….
I thought Clooney’s statement was perfect. It wasn’t in response to anything stated previously, and it wasn’t given in anger, both of which characterized Sean Penn’s utterance the year before.
Every now and then people need a little bit of perspective to fend off the right-wing’s BS attacks.
I didn’t see Clooney, but I was kind of amazed at how most of the “presenters” sounded like they were reading off cue cards that they’d never seen before in their lives. I thought these people were supposed to be actors.
Stewart seemed to be kind of disgusted with how dull they were, especially when he said about that rap group, MadDog 50/50 (or whatever they were; I ‘m not up on what’s hot with the young folks these days), “that’s the way to accept an Oscar.”
I liked when he said, “you think if we pull this giant Oscar statue down, democracy will run free in Hollywood?”
i didn’t find that when watching him. i thought he struck a political (or controversial) note while maintaining the humbleness & decorum of the oscars. i actually liked what he said.
gotta run folks.
Yay! Monday NEW SHOW!!
I got that impression about Clooney after reading this paragraph in the NYTimes.
.
Good Morning
Does Stephanie Miller have good ratings? You’d think her show would get a lot of streams too.
So K-Lo seems to get sick a lot. Rachel just mentioned he was sick. Does he not take care of himself?
Well, that’s a nice bit of spin by the down-to-Earth NY Times, now isn’t it?
well, I got Replay AV to work Friday night so hopefully this week will run pretty smoothly. I tried listening to the bit torrent but didn’t seem to download it properly.
I assume she does, but she’s on actual radio stations (and satellite radio, too), as opposed to Marc, who’s only on the one, so most of us have to stream him. You’d think that AAR would try and get some stats on the srteaming, and use that to sell it to other stations. Oh, that’s right, we’re talking about AAR.
If the number of comments on his blog (and ours) versus the other shows is an indicator, there are a lot of people listening out there.
KP, you have a bittorrent client on you computer, right?
How does one “pull a Picaso” with one’s nose? Do you mean Van Gogh? But instead of the ear, you take out the nose?:omg::rofl2:
I have a totally STUPID question. But, here goes.
If you subscribe to aar premium can you podcast without an mp3/ipod, just over your computer?
Or if you buy replay av can you also broadcast over your computer.
I don’t have an ipod/mp3 and don’t plan on getting one.
OK everybody stop rolling your eyes đ
The premium shows are in mp3 format, and you can play them on your computer quite nicely. With Replay, you can download them in mp3 or the native (Real or Windows media, depending) stream format, and play them on you computer as well.
Yeah isi….the podcast just downloads into your mp3 player like itunes. Mornin’ everyone….
Evenin’ Jason.
Your explanation is much better pj…
Is there suppose to be a basketball game on tonight?
I hope not. I’ll miss the live show again. Damn it!
If Marc does a audio/video show like Seder did the other night will I also be able to see the video on my computer?
evenin’/mornin’ pj!
Yeah Isi you should be able to see it if you’re a subscriber to Marc’s show….:fire:
:jason:
Nicki-
No, it’s definetly.. what’s his name…picasso! Andf is’s definetly The great Gaspy! For sure!
I don
No Clippers tonight, and no UCLA game, either. I just wonder what other sports teams they might throw at us unexpectedly.
How was Seder’s video feed? Was it as exciting as The Young Turks filibuster show? I swear that looked like watching my friends on an airplane…I guess because it
was sooo long…
I think I went out with her in college. :hubba:
So, you don’t have to have an mp3 player to use mp3 format?
Nicki! :omg: Travis! :alc:
isi…do you have itunes on your computer? That plays mp3s. You don’t have to have an external mp3 player to listen to the podcasts…
The Los Angeles Angel of Anaheim could probably use a radio station for their Spring Training games. Why not KTLK?
I don’t know.
I liked the guy at WFMU:
The Great Gatsby?:rofl2:
well you can download it for free from the apple website. It’s a music player program that’ll play your mp3s or cds and on and on….It’s cross platform so it’ll work on a windows system as well…just make sure download the windows version…I think….I’m on a mac so I guess I really don’t know. I think I’m right…
WinAmp is probably my favorite for playing mp3’s, though these days Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, and a bunch of others will play them too.
Replay comes with its own player (uses the Windows Media engine with its own skin and has skip shortcut keys, which is nice for jumping over commercials).
Yes PJ, I’m pretty sure I downloaded a bit torrent client when I went to the mininova sight. Under status it says files missing.
It doesn’t matter so much to me to get the torrents off of mininova since I paid for Replay and would like to use that since it seems to be working. I just wanted to hear Wednesday nights show.
You might want to try downloading and installing the Azureus bittorrent client. It’s pretty easy to use, and it will launch automatically when you download a torrent file.
:billcat: Thanks pj and jason. I don’t know what I will do but I imagine I won’t be able to continue my live listening from the central time zone indefinitely.
Hey Krista I use this program. It has caused me no problems. It’s called azureus
You might also need to download the latest JRE (link on the same page). That’s JAVA Runtime Environment, for running JAVA, which is what Azureus is written in.
What time does KTLK air Malloy?
Has he been replaced by all the bball action on their radio station?
It’s more than interesting that Tillman had set up a meeting with Chomsky. Was that why he got blown away by his brother’s convoy?
:jason::nixon:
He’s supposed to be on 12 – 2 Pacific, but I don’t know if he’s been on after the delayed Maron show or not. He’s kinda getting screwed. He’s off the air in NY, and down to 2 hours very late in LA.
Thanks PJ, I didn’t do the java thing, so that’s probably it.
Speaking of Chomsky…this is another great place where you can download air america mp3s Chomsky Torrents
Yeah, and Malloy has nothin’ in Phoenix anymore.
Air America has nothin’ in Pheonix anymore…
Stupid bastards! :jason:
Nicki! :omg: Thanks for the compliment on my little future Jason radio bit. I sent it to the show but I bet they won’t use it….oh well…
Phoenix has more jeebus now, though.
Where were you when the Jesus beam zapped the US? :sammy:
They might Jason; it all depends on what they got going on. At least you got on the air with them!
An admitted and unashamed progressive himself, Stewart later made fun of the film industry’s perceived liberalness, telling viewers the Oscars are a chance to “see all your favorite stars without having to donate any money to the Democratic party.” :rofl2: Our favorite stars barely chuckled.

true pj
The people of KXXT were great. Despite the lack of support from the money guys, they had a good radio station, run WAY better than WLIB, the flagship station in NY. Much of the local talent were pretty good and I’m really gonna miss Goyette. He was good with both the local news and the national/intntl news. Plus he has a finance background and did many segments about how the economy stuff is affecting us and will very soon. He made that stuff understandable. Maybe Bob Christie(who brought AAR to PHX) should replace DG.
Krista, do you know whether or not those local hosts that you dig are going to continue their work on other stations?
Isi- you can also bur the shows to CD if you wat to take them with you in the car or whatever.
pj- I thought that there were pretty bad problems with the teleprompter, ad that Bacall just hadnt memorized her lines. The people who had memorized their lies did better than those who hadnt.I thought that Clooney was great and not at all out of line in anything he said.
I thought that the writing was so much better this year, and I woder if JOhn Stewart didnt brig some of his own writer to the party. Those Hollywood squares guys that usually write the show are so…ugh!
beemer- why save the show in 15 min increments when you can get the whole show with Replay or Wiretap?…or even one of the other free applications? Is it because of Linux?
If you have it in 15 min increments have a look at the wavepad program. Once you’re used to it, its a very nice way to edit. I havent put anything together with it, but if its as good at that as it is at takign out commercials ad cutting the Clippers out, it is a good thing.
O’Reilly has his own Blackwater security force! :rofl2::fu: Bill!
The Fox Police! :rofl2: Whatever…
Yeah, I wondered if she was having problems seeing the teleprompter – or if it was just scolling too slowly or something. She seemed a little unsteady walking out (but then, so did Jennifer Garner).
On the ride home tonight on the train one of the conductors looked like a Japanese John Ashcroft! :omg:
Olbermann killed with the O’Reilly stuff the other night. It’s almost as if O’Reilly wants to help Olbermann’s ratings.
He wasn’t handling snakes, was he, Jason?
I hope it works. I can’t believe sooo many people watch O’Dumbass and Fox news anyway. :40: I know I’d be watchin’ Olberman if I was back home. I remember when he first was on ESPN. He was like the new Chris Burman…
No but he was taking my money for riding his special rapid train…
I’m sure Goyette will end up somewhere. The other stations are all fairly conservative though(they weren’t so much until Limpprick came along :fu:) He got fired off of KFYI for being against the war in Iraq from the get go. But he said he had “options” and I have heard he may go national which would be great, but I really like him being local because he’s lived in Az most of his life and has a great knowledge of Az politics.
Stephanie Miller is saying that Fox News is in decline and Olberman and MSNBC are on the rise in viewership!
Oooh. I didn’t know that was legal in Japan. đ
Have I said how much I love this little guy – :rant1:
ha ha pj…..:rofl2: I didn’t mean it that way man! :rofl2:
FYI,
Last Fall’s ratings chart shows Steph’s Radio ratings just behind Al’s.
http://www.talkers.com/talkhosts.htm
BTW- Marc said MorningSedition was pulling a 1.25 share too for their last couple months on the air in NYC!
(F DG!)
p.s. Oscar song of the year done by Memphis’s own
“3 Six Mafia”:fist:
Interesting ratings. Those appear to be national cum’s, right? So Limbaugh’s 12.75 million is spread over come 600 stations (I think). Franken is on less than 90, so their per station averages are even closer (and a lot of the AAR stations are powered by a squirrel on a treadmill).
and thats if they can even afford that large of an animal- usually its just a hamster.
Thats one thing about AAR stations, some don’t even have the money (or whatever it takes) to put up a website.
That’s something that AAR could easily provide. Just come up with a template that affiliates could customize, and then provide web space for them. Domain registration is cheap and so is disk space. They could even come up with a minimum amount of AAR programming they need to carry to get webspace (would be a bit awkward having Ed Schultz hawked on your own web server, but, hey, it’s not like AAR does anything else for promotion).
Hell, the people here and at AAP have done more to promote AAR than AAR has. At times, it seems as if AAR has gone out of its way to make life more miserable for the listeners that it takes for granted. They apparently think that “liberals” have nowhere else to go, so they can do whatever they want, and we have no alternative but to stick with them, no matter how shitty they treat us, and no matter how much they pander to the Springer and Satellite Sisters listeners, and the Lieberman DINO types. They’re a lot like the Democrats that way.
hmm thats true, they have us against the wall and your right PJ, its not hard to make a website, thats why its so insane that they dont have one!
Hi, I just joined the blog but I’ve been a Maronista since the beginning.
Is it just me, or is the contact info on the AAR site bad? They give Marc’s address as marc@marcmaron.com but mail to there keeps bouncing.
Welcome, Fewer. Yeah, AAR took control over Arc’s website – including his domain name (marmaron.com). Since then mail to marc@marcmaron.com bounces. No doubt, the crackerjack AAR web team will get on it forthwith.
fred, thx for your posting about pat tillman. i looked up the link to the article from common dreams: link
I am so far behind. . . I’m listening to the podcast of fridays marc maron show and its awesome Sean was on there. good times.
Hate to be a drag [but i was born this way] but what’s the prognosis for all this? I ponied up the 26 McFarquers for 6 months of Maron premium, but what other stations are carrying the show except KTLK? Doesn’t Maron have to get picked up by somebody for this show to continue? And what the f*** is WLIB in NY waiting for, the return of the crusades? Maron’s voice is still heard on the on-the-hour promos, together with the other AAR ‘superstars’. Is this a sign that we’ll soon be able to hear him in NY on the radio? Should we encourage Franken to announce already and get off the air to open up a spot? What gives?
Dunno, cresttwo. I think that (in Maron’s words) the AAR management is retarded. They’re as good at promotion as the Bush administration is at policy, or IBM at marketing (see OS/2).
Beats me, man. I gotta believe there are alot of people out there listening (to a show that was forced on the air by fans and promoted by fans).
None. Of course, I’m sure AAR is busily and agressively out there shopping it around (not).
It would help, but I guess it all depends on what the AAR budget is for the show, and whether or not Marc, Jim, PW, and whoever else there is can live on it.
Maybe on the weekends, with a “best of,” but I doubt you’ll hear him on WLIB at 1 AM; don’t they switch to Carribean music at midnight or something? Maybe on another station, if AAR can shop it around to somebody (how’re they doing getting Malloy back on in NYC?).
Sounds good to me, but then we’ll probably just get six hours of Springer.
It’s a real fuckin’ Goldberg, aint it?
:jason::jason:Pardon
I had read that Tillman was growing disenchanted with the war, and was reading “subversive” literature. The planned meeting with Chomsky when he “gets back to the world” is news. Damn! That would have struck a blow for the antiwar movement.
Organize and get back into the streets. Do not subordinate the movement to the Democrats again.
:omg:
G. Gordon Liddy is ahead of Franken!:jason: The last time I checked, that Nixon lover was on one tiny station in Oregon in a town I have never heard of.
Alan Colmes! How do they figure those ratings? The number of listeners?
:nixon:
Zirin excerpt:
He even had a meeting set up with Mr. Chomsky that he was never able to make. This is the same Pat Tillman who turned down the NFL,s millions to join the Army Rangers and “kick ass in Afghanistan. Clearly he was in the process of questioning this. Clearly he was coming to the conclusions that most of the United States – along with the majority of soldiers, not to mention the majority of Iraqis that in the Middle East, the US is not on a project of liberation but occupation.
Mike Malloy in for Randi today and tomorrow.
Seder in for Randi Wed, Thurs, Fri.
did have better luck with replay getting friday night’s show, although it did come with clipper talk. thanks pj for the help about recording it with the mp3 stream, it easily went into itunes this time. wish everyone good luck tonight……
Thanks for the input PJ – if the Maron show becomes a national force, I’m giving you a lot of the credit! That goes for the other menches on this blog.
By the way, I thought that the bit on friday’s show, the early peek at Bush’s Saturday Radio Address, was the high point so far, worthy of inclusion on snotgreensea.
Who do you think did the impersonation?
I like the Grateful Dead music that AAR plays in the breaks. I know that the Dead is a band that many love to hate. But I have a soft spot for them. Just yesterday, Jeffrey St Clair wrote that Dave Marsh dismissed Television because the guitarist had initially tried to play like Jerry Garcia. Then St Clair wrote something that sounded snarky.
Here is what St Clair wrote yesterday:
Dave Marsh, who professes to know a lot more about music than I do, hates Television because Tom Verlaine once confessed that he tried to play guitar like Jerry Garcia, a tragic choice for a proto-punk band (perhaps any band). But I remain devoted, if only because of the song “Venus” with its great line: “I fell right into the arms … of Venus de Milo.” And, actually, Dave, the guitar on “Marque Moon”, the best song on this set, owes as much to Bob Marley (one of the most underrated guitarists in rock) as Garcia.

The Mysterious Case of David Cobb
By JOSHUA FRANK
You probably don’t all remember Mr. David Cobb; he’s the one who ran for president with the Green Party in 2004. I am not sure he actually ran, as he advocated early on for the Greens to endorse a “safe-state” strategy. Anyway, nominating Cobb for prez has backfired on the Greens. They have lost ballot access and credibility across the country, and rumor has it that they are in dire financial straits while a member of their Steering Committee is under scrutiny and may even be impeached.
In short, the Green Party is a big ol’ mess. . .
http://www.counterpunch.com
Dear fellow seditionisti:
I need a new computer. I generally have to reboot at least once an hour. I can stream but not blog at the same time. I absolutely cannot be on two blogs. So if you notice that I seem to be disappearing, it’s not that I’m not listening or paying attention. It’s that unless I’m at work I can’t get a good connection to the ‘net.
Sigh!
I had totally finished typing my recipe for today and my browser froze and crashed. I’m not at home now so I can’t type it again until later. But I will. As Dog is my witness, I will never be…oh, wait, sorry, having an old movie moment…
As for the Oscars…I’m not a big fan of rap but I have to say “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” is catchy.
I’m sure Kristapea knows about this, but Malloy just mentioned the website http://www.saveairamericaphoenix.com
:rofl2::rofl2:
I just sent some cash to the Phoenix Resurrection project.:omg:
On second thought…
Good afternoon :sheep::sheep::sheep:le,
One silver lining to the otherwise dark cloud of the Clipper’s broadcast is that it seems to add an additional 15 to 20 minutes of actual show. Since I’ve been podcasting, I welcome the additional funny. I sat through two segments on Friday and was aghast at the number of commercials. Egad! Another possible silver lining is that the Clippers could stoke the flames of Marc’s hatebuzz…always a good thing. Caffeine, chocolate and the Clippers equal good radio. One personal observation is that Patton Oswalt and Marc have tremendous chemistry. I hope Patton becomes a regular.

An End To Capital Punishment?
by Dick Meister; March 06, 2006
At last there’s real hope for ridding the United States of the barbaric practice of capital punishment. It’s actually a possibility, thanks to two doctors who refused to take part in an execution that had been scheduled at California’s San Quentin Prison last month.
The doctors – anesthesiologists – had been assigned to certify that the state’s killing of a rapist-murderer, Michael Morales, set for February 21 did not violate the Constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment, as Morales’ attorneys claimed it would.
The doctors had agreed to monitor the procedure to make certain Morales remained unconscious after being injected with lethal chemicals — the method of execution in most states. But the anesthesiologists pulled out after U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel ruled they would have to intervene personally to help further sedate Morales or “otherwise alleviate the painful effects” of the drugs if they determined he was conscious.
“Any such intervention would clearly be medically unethical,” the two unidentified doctors declared in a written statement.
That left the state no choice but to try a much lengthier and untried procedure the judge had suggested as an option – to kill Morales by injecting him with an overdose…

God, I hate rightwingerpigs.:omg:
yes the commercials are a problem. has anyone mastered the wavepad, and if so, how much time does it take to edit out the commericials…may give it a try now and see how hard it is if i can figure i out….
Randi is still peddling goldbars, I hear.:rofl2:
I hope people remember things like this about John McCain when he runs for president
RAW STORY
Published: March 6, 2006
A representative for Sen. John McCain recently told Washington D.C.’s Hotline that he would support South Dakota’s push to ban abortions, a liberal blog found Monday.
More from Hotline:
To me, McCain is a creep. Frist for President!:omg:
Malloy is really good on discussing Christianity.
gypsy, if i had an extra computer, i’d give it to you. we run ours into the ground. we have two right now whose hinges no longer work, and we just leave them open all the time now.
do you have access to Word at work? if so, you can type your recipes or email communications into Word and save them for posting at a later time. when you want to post them, copy them (highlight the text, press ctrl-c to copy the text) then go to this blog and paste the text (ctl-v) into the blog. then at least you won’t lose any more text while you’re waiting to get a new computer.
clear as mud?
of course i’m guessing that you’re not using a Mac. if you are, then please ignore everything i just suggested.
However, unlike Mike, it really doesn’t bother me that three 6 mafia thanked jesus when they got their oscar.
another article on the tillman death:

NYC city police arrest Cindy Sheehan ( again). This time she was protesting with some women from IRAQ at the UN. They expected her to be release later today.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060306/ts_nm/iraq_sheehan_dc
Interesting story about McCain, who is now whoring it up to the Christian Right to a fare-thee-well. He now says he’d sign a state ban on abortion with the big three exceptions, life of the mother, rape, incest [the unholy trinity]. But he lost to Bush in S.C. in 2000 because everybody knew he was pro-choice. One of my best friends is a right-to-lifer and he’s not sold on ‘death bed conversions’ by politicians who start becoming anti-choice and pro-life when they start running in GOP primaries. McCain might be fooling himself here, depriving himself of his strongest p.r. point, an image of being a man of principle and courage. Even the far right will see this for what it is. I’d bet that Hillary’s people are very happy about this.
This last-minute conversion crap won’t work for giuliani or pataki if they try it either. Why do we always assume that our ‘lunatic’ opposition is stupid too?
There was apparently some concern that the save airamerica Phoenix thing was a hoax but someone at DU verified it was legit.
Having Malloy on the air during drive time could cause a lot of incidents of Semi’s running over Escalades.
The WavePad takes some practice, but isn’t bad. First, get familiar with the keyboard shorcuts and whatnot. The time you invest on the front end will pay big dividends down the road. Next, try to find the end of the show (easy if no Clippers, maybe not so easy otherwise). Get used to zooming in and out to examine the waveform – you’ll see changes in amplitude in sections while zoomed out, and when you zoom in tight you can find pretty clear delineations between show and not show.
So anyway, find the end of the show, then do the select here to end, and delete.
Scroll back until you find the end of a commercial and where the show returns (comes in on music). Find your end-o-commercial spot, and do control+b to set a bookmark (you can insert 1000 ms of silence or so if you want). Then, scroll back until the begining of the commercial (should be 4 minutes, give or take, unless it’s a the top of the hour, when it’s a bit more. Make sure you ahve your bookmark list showing. When you find your spot for the beginning of the commercial break, hit control+G, and this gets you a little dialog box with the spot you’re at prefilled as the start time (this is why I think it’s easier to work backwards). Enter your bookmark time as the end time, hit enter, and that 4 minute or whatever time slice will be selected. Hit delete, it’s gone. Fuck up? Control+Z undoes it. Add silence, effects, etc, to taste. You can use the arrow keys to move backwards and forwards with more control. Let off the key, and it stops. The longer you hold the key down, the faster it’ll go (to a point), so you can kind of figure out where you’re at. Good for finding the spots that are at the same level as the show, but are just the station teasers.
Friday was the only show I’d gotten complete so I was still working on my technique, but I think with some practice, you could edit a two hour show in 10-20 minutes. Maybe less.
tech update. ok, wavepad works pretty well. you can’t make exact edits, i.e. using timecode, but you can cut out the commericials fairly easily, and then resave it as an mp3 file, and easily load it into itunes, and you have an almost perfect copy. i did subscribe to aar for a month, and when i put my wavepad edited version of the show it was only off 32 seconds from the aar version, so as far as i am concerned that is good enough, and you don’t have to be plagued by the commercials, and once you get good, you could probably fix a show in about 15 minutes, so to whoever recommended wavepad, i send a grateful thanks….
pj, once again thanks, i was wondering how to use the bookmarks, i made my edits manually, but did find working backwards much easier…i will study all your tips, hooray it works
I have an mpeg editor that I use for editing my ReplayTV recordings (Womble mpeg-vcr) that has a really nice interface for scrubbing back and forth using the mouse and setting mark ins/outs and doing left/right/inside/outside trimming. Works great, and then will save with various options. I was trying to find an audio editor that had a similar inerface, but haven’t found one yet. WavePAd seems to come closest. It has a couple of irritations, like if you’re zoomed in, it won’t scroll past the end of the window using your mouse to make a selection. But, what the hell, it was free.
Jumping on real quick to say that, much to my surprise, we just left Otis at the vet so he can have surgery tomorrow. (The surprise is less that he needed surgery and more that it will be so soon. But it made sense since he was already there and the orthopedist only does surgery on Tuesdays.) I know it’s for the best–his ACL is completely torn and he’ll essentially be lame without the surgery–but it was a very tearful good-bye.
Once I know exactly what time the surgery will be, I’ll post it. I’m gonna need all you guys’ good thoughts . . .
Best wishes to you and to Otis, CK. I know not everyone ia an animal person, but I am, and our animals are our family. We’ll send good thoughts out there.
Now it makes sense how I couldn’t find the Phoenix AAR station last time I was down there.
hope all goes well with otis…just one more questions pj, in wavepad, once i hit control g at the beginning of the commercials, the box that comes up says preview, ok or cancel, i couldn’t find how to enter, and then delete, but i do have to say that at least bookmarking the end, makes the editing much easier, at least there is one fixed point…
The Christian group just shut down the AAR Phoenix station last Friday.. So… they are trying to get back up pretty quickly. That is a pretty large market and with the ratings of the original AAR station they should be a success.
Someone over at DU was discussing the thought that the left needs to arrange some financing to develop a support network much like a Union has so that people can gather to demonstrate and enter into civil disobedience and get paid for it and/or bailed out so you don’t have to be independently wealthy to do it. With all the under employed recruiting a sizable army would probably not be difficult.
Woohoo….I put down my monies and I’m a AAR Premmie now!
Listening to Marc and Jim and Patton and Andy and lotsa FUNNY!!!!!!!!
Woooohoooooooooooo!
That Collier article on Tillman in the SF Chronicle is a very thorough, informative piece of journalism. I order everyone to read it. (Post #327)

Good evening, all. I’m wading through the blogs of the last week, trying to figure out which software I can use to make the .rm files AAR offers into .mp3’s so my Treo will recognize and play them. Shouldn’t this be a Forum topic?
All this new-fangled crap I gotta learn about. đ
Oh Malloy! Ready to take on a talking point right winger.:omg::omg::rofl2:
This is *my* place of business!!!:spank:
The night time maintenance crew at Malloy’s place of work in Atlanta must really dislike cleaning up after encounters with right wingers like that which just occurred. Mike must have devoured both legs and and an arm.
People Get Ready:Â Monday 06 March 2006
The US ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, has told British MPs that military action could bring Iran’s nuclear programme to a halt if all diplomatic efforts fail.
:omg:
Ooh! I figured out a backasswards way of getting an .mp3!
I paste the .mp3 address into the address bar, and when it loads I *send* it in a email to myself. Then I right-click on the address and ask my computer to save the object of the link. Whoopie!
And Satan said, “you’re doing a heck of a job, Brownie!” :priest:
Another snark right winger!:omg:
Well we will have to see if Malloy lets out a loud BURP after this one. Oh darn he let that one get away.
That dude was lame! “I’m a supply-sider.”:rofl2:
And people get upset at Randi for yelling at her right-wingers! :omg:
Is there an ice pick coming?
I’m a magical thinker, too. But I am firmly on the left. Explain that, lady.:omg::rofl2:
Good Point
Malloy is good at getting people to be precise before moving on with the conversation. He does that with callers of all political persuasions.
(I don’t think I would do well if I called in.):rofl2:
I’d have him sticking the ice pick in his eye. I get too tongue-tied. đł
I like Malloy because he is not an apologist for the Democrats. This is a quality not found among most of the AAR hosts. (I still love AAR. People on the left must not destroy friendships with liberals, lest we discover one day that we have no friends at all.)
For a place as supposedly liberal as NYC one would think that this show of force by the Police would be met by the people in some non nice way some day.
Thanks Malloy â
As for the OscarsâŚIâm not a big fan of rap but I have to say âItâs Hard Out Here for a Pimpâ is catchy.

There’s another song on the Hustle & Flow soundtrack called “Whoop That Trick” that is even catchier.
The local ABC affiliate did some on-the-street interviews this afternoon concerning the Oscar-winning song. All of the middle-aged to elderly white people that they interviewed (so much for diversity) pretty much thought that the song proves that society has gone to hell in a handbasket.
Not that any of them had probably heard it before last night.
I’m outta here. Ironing calls. It’s back to work tomorrow. Bummer.
THREE 6 MAFIA!!!

:omg:From a friend (apologies if you’ve seen it already):
A major research institution has just announced the
discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element has been named “Bushcronium.”
Bushcronium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75
deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons,
giving it an atomic mass of 311. These 311particles
are held together by forces called morons, which are
surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles
called peons.
Since Bushcronium has no electrons, it is inert.
However,it can be detected,as it impedes every
reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute
amount of Bushcronium causes one reaction to take over
4 days to complete when it would normally take less
than a second. Bushcronium has a normal half-life of
multiples of 4 years; it does not decay, but instead
undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the
assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange
places. In fact, Bushcronium’s mass will actually
increase over time, since each reorganization will
cause more morons to become neutrons, forming
isodopes.
This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some
scientists to believe that Bushcronium is formed
whenever morons reach a certain quantity in
concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred
to as “Critical Morass.”
When catalyzed with money, Bushcronium activates
Foxnewsium, an element which radiates orders of
magnitude, more energy, albeit as incoherent
noise, since it has half as many peons but twice as
many morons.
Bushcronium can spontaneously transmute into
Pandemonium.
Oh, you science wonks! Inert neutron!:rofl2:
I mean, no electrons. THEREFORE IT IS INERT!:omg:
I do not know what the fuck that all means. I used to freak out studying the structure of small particles. Magical mind, you know.
:omg::omg::doh:
Janeane is a natural radio talent, I believe. Sam is good, too.:omg::rofl2:
Gotta go. Strong winds have smashed a clay pot.:omg:
They didn’t invent small particles until I was in pharmacy school, and then, who cared?
Invent
small particles
–or discover them?:omg::rofl2:concerning post 130 i have not run over any escalades this afternoon
{{{ KAHN }}} good thoughts from the farm to Otis & your family. It’s good otis is getting the surgery right away – he needs his acl. Let us know what surgery he’s getting. [had a dog that had two of them and he had a great life – so those good thoughts go to Otis!]
******
i wish Springer [shudder] would learn some of Malloy’s tactics when talking to the righties.
Reading the above comments, we progressives need to buy radio STATIONS. Learn from the 700 club!
I’m watching Oberman re the religious towns springing up. I’m hoping they all decide to secede from the Union.
:billcat:
ha ha pirate radio argh yes pirate radio stream ktlk over the open air every night from 1 to 3 am and whatnot ha yes that could work!!!!! ok well im off to north dakota someone e-mail me the funny im not subscribing till friday when i get paid ok well of to grand forks will see you sheeple someother time if i dont get thrown in the pokey!
Oops! Dropped the quotation marks! “Invent”, of course!:rofl2:
Free-for-all over at the Majority Report blog!:omg:
G’night, Sean! Watch them Avalanches, too.
I wonder how much a 2-watt station like WHAT in Philly (who had only Al & Randi for a year, then bolted from any AAR affiliation) would cost? $6?
Damn, and I just turned the stream off! Oh, well, I do get sick of hearing Janeane and Sam bickering.
Major city like Philadelphia cannot even have an AAR affiliate! :omg:
Nope. And the one they had I couldn’t get, either at home, at work or in the car. And I live in a township bordering the city.
:billcat:Evening/my morning everybody!:yinyang: Have fun listenin’ to the show tonight. I’ll be there with you in spirit. Hopefully I’ll be able to listen to the podcast as soon as I get home…
i think I’d heard that it was easy to buy stations or a bunch were up for grabs – can’t remember and am waaaaay too tired to look.
PJ hope you got that paper done. Mind the fort guys, gotta go to beddy bye.
Goodnight Farmerkat! You’re goin’ to bed and I’m wakin’ up…
I have a friend who lives in Collingdale, PA. She never heard of AAR until I started sending her stuff.
Nicki: I can’t believe it!
Wake up :sheep: we’re fighting for our lives here! :omg:
Damn it…I missed Malloy, is he on KTLK now? How can I power iron without my Malloy? đĄ
Thanks, PJ, FK, and all who have sent their good wishes. FK, I’m not sure “what kind” of surgery it is. They’re going in and repairing it with sterile fishing line! (It’s his left knee.) Maybe she said, but there was just so much info to take in–and then there was the whole emotional aspect of it. (I know this isn’t a pet-support site, but it has always been my habit to let my friends know when I need their support–and you guys ARE my friends!)
Somehow I finished book 6 of my project amid all this, and I’m looking forward to getting a really good night’s sleep. I hope Otis manages same; he really despises being at the vet.
Hi everyone…almost on my way to lay down…I had to clean the basement in preparation for a new water tank tomorrow…ugh!…it was such a mess….
Anyway, I hope that there is no Clippers game tonight…and that the replay gods smile on us all!..
Gypsy, Do a google search for Freecycle. Its a site where people give away stuff they no longer use.We have one in my town and there are often computers up for grabs because people upgrade so often. I guess that these groups exist around most major cities so if there isnt one right there try the next largest city. Its also a great way to get rid of stuff…. I just gave 2 very old couches away on freecycle. I hope you see this when you get online again.
Also, try to open the tower of your computer and make sure the fans are working. Sometimes crashes are caused by excess heat from something as simple as a broken fan. I just had that happen twice here and once it was that the mother board was fried (I was still under warranty on that one, thank god,) and on the laptop, I got a cooling pad for it and for now its doing OK even thugh its ancient.
CK…I hope that Otis sails smoothly though this operation and heals quickly. I am crazy about my dogs and other animals and it is always so worrisome when one of them is sick. Since they are a ragtag bunch of rescues and animals with complicated stories, we have had more than our share of medical stuff..they eve have health insurance! (not that it seems to really be worth it. I think I maybe break even!)
Anyway, with such a loving Mom ,Im sure Otis will be on his feet in no time. We are sending our best thoughts and healing vibes.
Best wishes for Otis now, tomorrow and beyond
Take care of yourself!
Hey Pj, thanks for the tips on the wavepad…The whole selecting and deleting thing seems a little hard to me, but I think that the problem is in doign it with the mouse as opposed to with the keys that you suggest. Im very good at zoomig in and out and finding the exact place where the commercial is. I dont understand the scrubbing thing…what does it do and why is it in with the pause button?
You dont have to answer this now if you havent finished your paper yet…I can ask again tomorrow.
I dont find that the directions in wavepad are very good.
Assuming you’re working backwards, and have just bookmarked the commercial out time, and are now at the commercial in time, when you hit CTRL+G, you should see start/end times. Both should be the time you’re currently at. Enter your last bookmark time, and click OK. The entire time form the start to end times you just had will now be selected. Hit delete. If you select preview, it plays the selection.
Melina, you can use the spacebar for scrubbing. Use it in combination witht he arrow keys to try fine tuning your selection. Frankly, I don’t use it, and I find trying to make selections with the mouse difficult and tedious. That’s why I use a bookmark to mark the end of a commercial, and then just click and then use the arrow keys (w/o the scrubbing) to find the right spot to position myself at the beginning of the commercial and then use CNTRL+G to enter and select the start/end times and delete it.
If my brain wasn’t so fried, I could probably explain it better. Two exams, a presentation, and one paper down. One more to go. Things will be much better when Wednesday’s over with.
Well, only 48 hours to go till Wednesday night! Hang in…I just finished last year (my undergrad degree that I had been working on since 1981!) and I just dread grad school so much because it was just so hard to fit the studying and everything else. YOu are doing so much! Try not to overdo it or you’ll get sick!…it will be worth it in the end, and you seem to be very good at this stuff. I wish I had the presence of mind to get some sort of IT certification…but its just not in the cards anytime soon for me! I know that youre gonna do great…just keep working away as best as you can!
Wait till after Wednesday to answer about the wavepad…Im gonna try your tips from tonight tomorrow…god, hopefully I’ll have something to try it on tomorrow!
Ive got to lay down. I think I overdid it today!
nite all …
Hmmm. This item from Wonkette (passed along by a marine over in Iraq) is interesting.
This from Marc’s blog entry tonight. :fist:
I can hardly wait!
Good Luck to Otis
Hey all and thanks for the link to the Save AAR PHX site, I had not heard of it yet, oddly enough. I bet they raise the money in no time and raise a whole lot extra, I bet.
Good Luck to Otis the cat:fist: We LOVE kitties here too!
Just watching “My Name is Earl” from the other night. Mayb eit’s just me, but damn, that’s a funny show.
Sean, make sure you read the entire post by jorogo on Marc’s blog tonight!!
Feeling paranoid? Find out what the FBI has on you!
Just got this from PFAW. You can go to http://www.foiarequest.org and fill out a form to submit a Freedom of Information Act request on yourself to the FBI. I can hardly wait to find out if they have a file on me! lol
Hey Kevin, I was just giving you shit!:crap:
Hi Fewer Dahlias, maybe we should see whaT they got on Marc and Jim

Quiet girl, you have to get well in time for your Birthday :cake:
:omg:
Hi Kristapea, that’s a great idea, but I don’t know if we can do it for them. You always have legal standing to request information on yourself, but I’m not so sure about how to justify a request on somebody else.
