So, I find myself in the odd position of agreeing with Nancy Pelosi. She wants the Bush tax cuts for rich people rescinded immediately. Barack Obama? Not so much.
Over in the Senate, though, Democrats don’t like the new tax cuts that Obama is proposing for the less than wealthy. Hate to say it, but I kind of agree with them, too. Giving me an extra $10 a week isn’t gonna do diddly for the economy (that barely covers a six-pack of my current favorite beer, after bottle deposit and sales tax).
I say, restore the pre-Bush tax rates for rich people, and use that money (and more) to put people to work (fixing roads, bridges, and schools, building parks, creating a world-class rail system, etc.), develop alternative energy sources, create single-payer healthcare, whatever.
Putting people to work at decent pay with decent benefits will stimulate the economy a hell of a lot more than an extra six-pack in my fridge (and have the added benefit of fixing all the shit that’s falling apart). Get us off non-Western Hemisphere oil (for starters) and provide affordable healthcare for everybody, and so much the better.
But, I doubt much of that will happen. Oh well, at least it’s Friday.
The truth is out there.
Perhaps Bill O’Liely was standing under that turbine when he heard that Franken had won, causing Billo’s head to explode.

morning gang!
eya PJ
excellent rant this morning. i agree completely.
“Bill O’Liely” sigh… if only.
How the heck does this work? It answered correctly each time.
Historically, lowering taxes for just the wealthy does not stimulate the economy. Reich says the wealthy do not use the money for spending. Lowering payroll taxes has helped historically. That is my understanding.
The U.S. recession gathered steam in December as employers shed another 524,000 jobs, the unemployment rate leapt half a percentage point to 7.2 percent, the average workweek fell to a record low and job losses were spread widely across almost all sectors of the economy, the government said Friday.
December’s unemployment rate was the highest since January 1993, and was up by much more than expected over November’s rate of 6.7 percent, according to the Labor Department. The December job losses brought the full-year total to over 2.6 million in 2008.
There was little to cheer in the report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Although the December job losses were just a touch higher than the consensus forecast, many analysts believe they will be revised next month. Several state employment offices saw their computer systems crash in December with the soaring number of people seeking jobless benefits, and this may have resulted in a lower number than reality.
The Labor Department also revised its employment reports from October and November, noting that job losses in those months were worse than first reported. Employers rid themselves of 423,000 jobs in October, not the reported 320,000, and 584,000 jobs in November, not the 533,000 positions first reported by the BLS.

I encountered a different kind of wind turbine mystery yesterday driving back here across western Kansas. There’s a windmill farm that goes on for miles starting @ Ellsworth, KS. I’d say in the hundreds. Why were only half of them turning?. There was plenty of wind but not overly windy? Why are they not maximizing what we have? 😯
regarding Pelosi. I just think all these statements about who’s supporting what and why (mostly from dems- rethugs are pretty clear about killing everything that is good) is just so much shadow puppet theatre. By the time a public statement is made, the cards have been counted, the deal has been struck. It’s just left to the appropriate mouth-peices to figure out how to spin the public.
Of course when it really counts you can count on Hairlessly “no balls” Reid to fold, spindle and mutilate himself in order to make a smiley day for 👿 ‘thugs.
If you take any 2-digit number and subtract the sum of its digits from it, it will always be a multiple of 9 (9, 18, 27, 36, etc).
Look at the “gifts” and you’ll see all the multiples of 9 are the same gift.
pj is a genius
Speaking of alternative energy- Missouri passed a law that you need liability insurance for your solar panels or own wind turbine- insurance that no one in Missouri sells 😡
Gee, I wonder who got that passed in a republican controlled state legislature?
PJ, re #7. All the multiples of 9 are a money clip. But, the game guesses other gifts. What am I missing? If I do no math at all, but simply decide on a gift, it still guesses which gift.
Every time you “start over” it changes what gifts are on what numbers (otherwise, it’d be a little too obvious). As long as you pick a gift that isn’t sitting on a multiple of 9, it’ll be wrong.
Thanks, PJ, observant genius!

Well, first week over and all’s well in the green house. Man, I sure love working in there. ‘Cept, they need to pay me salary because there’s stuff I should take care of over the weekend and now the owner has to because they don’t want to pay me overtime. A green house doesn’t work only 5 days a week.
FUCK iTunes! I just did a damned update and they went and changed everything! :fu:
The upside is the prices may be lower and it’s DRM free.
I don’t download music hardly at all anymore. I prefer to buy cd’s and support my local record stores. Who happen to be friends.
Pj – you’re amazing.
Been moving today – place is a mess but will not have MOLD. That stuff is unkind to the sinuses – Ooch! Boss wanted me to work and move at the same time. No can do she said. No Internet but glad to have 3g
Should I not update iTunes?
I am an update sucker and seem to constantly get bitten on the butt after I do it. iTunes and QuickTime are the worst. I think I have finally figured out how to limit their invasion.
Meanwhile, it was doing updates that brought my iMac down and after 6 weeks and 2 new external hard drives I am probably going to be buying a new HD to install tomorrow. This is to replace one from WD that was ‘professionally’ installed 19 months ago.
It seems like every computer catastrophe I have had in the last ten years has somehow involved an update.
huh? :tinfoil:
