Another week begins. Not a whole lot going on, as far as I can tell. Some sort of nonsense at the Grammys last night, involving a couple of people I’ve never heard of and really don’t care about. Looks like Australia is on fire. The stimulus deal will apparently get debated on and maybe voted on this week in the Senate. As far as I can tell, it’s a big friggin’ joke that doesn’t seem as if it’ll do much of anything. I thought we were supposed to get some big WPA-like programs to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure and put people to work. Guess not. That’s what happens when you have a government run by a bunch of crooks. And Governor Blinky isn’t much help, either.
Another Monday and we get to go to work. KP gets to avoid discussing Obama with her boss. But, the very good news is that next week is vacation. The NYC school system closes for this week as a way to save heating money, etc. They took at couple of holidays, and added a few days and made it a week off. I like it.
Meanwhile the Rethugs muct be feeling better have managed to water down the stimulus. For them, screwing working Americans is always a victory. Obama is going on the road to sell the stimulus. It should be interesting.
Gotta go to work. Today it is a trip to the Bronx which takes about an hour.
There’s a new number puzzle in the Times for anyone interested:

The Puzzlemaster already has a book out of kenken.
But I am still trying to figure out that 60 vote thing from yesterday. Where is Travis?
Vernon, I’ve decided to go with the simplest explanation: it takes 60 votes to pass. Why? What is a point of order ? Is a point of order automatic? who knows.
Sue, I see it like this. The repugs will not call that point of order. If there are 60 votes for cloture it is going to pass. They are just posturing and they don’t really want the thing to go down because they know how deep the shit is that we are in right now. They are playing all of their remaining cards for advantage to maintain their base but they do not want to be seen as bringing it down. They do want to be ready to say ‘we told you so’ if it does not work out.
Fact is they have no intention to try to join together to help save this country in hopes they will get back to the looting it soon. I hope that someone is playing them and that they eventually get called for their shit.
The rethugs are a bunch of dicks. Their obstructionism is just morally reprehensible. I wish they would have to live in the type of hand to mouth existence that their blue collar constituents have to. I wish they had to deal with an extended illness without insurance. The problem is, they still wouldn’t wake up considering how they still get elected to office.
Sixty-seven percent of the American people approve of how President Obama’s handling his efforts to pass an economic stimulus bill, as opposed to 48% for Democrats in Congress and 31% for congressional Republicans.
In addition, the disapproval rating for Congressional Republicans remains a “staggeringly high” 58%. And the public continues to view the package as a matter of paramount concern. 51% of those polled consider the plan’s passage to be “critically important,” with “Only 16% say it is ‘not that important.'”

I think the observation that Republicans are good at campaigning but not governing, is right. They are despicable. They are also tethered to neither to the truth nor reality. They always remind me of the not too bright kids who substitute bluster and sometimes cruelty for understanding and information.
Before my kids married I told them both that they were free to marry anyone of good character. Race, religion and other such stuff not important. But, I warned, do NOT bring home any Republicans.
A couple of years ago I delivered that same message to my little granddaughter (you’ve got to start young) in a diner and the folks in the next booth became very agitated and started loudly advocating for the re-selection of Chimpy. I confess (where is the liberal confessional when I need it?) that I thoroughly enjoyed their discomfort.
Who’s the Fat Head sitting next to Helen Thomas?
S thought is was Ed Shultz. Anna Marie Cox from AAR was in the fourth row but wasn’t called on.
I can’t get enough of Barry calling out the thugs on why he should take any guff from hypocrite republican assholes who are responsible for getting us here, tho he didn’t quite put it that way.
It was a much better experience listening to Prez Obama than the painful one of listening to Chimpy.
It was Schultz but to hear O’Bama call on Helen and then someone from HuffPo…
