Ah, the weekend rolls around once again. I can’t think of much to say at the moment, so I’ll guess y’all will just have to say it for me. I have to get out and talk about IP routing anyway (and I’m sure nobody wants to hear about that).

Good morning, Seditionists!
God, I hate missing the party night after night after night. But I’m OLD (hi, isi!) and need to sleep so I can earn money to buy cat food so Maggie the Squaller will shut the f*** up for five seconds.
Ahhhh. The Pashman laugh. :rofl2:
Morning Brilliant.
So does anyone know why it’s now “Short Order News” and not “Cliff Notes”
Hey PJ
If you are around. I received a message from cgeye who says the following:
“PS I’ve tried for the past two weeks to leave comments on Morning
Seditionists, but Word Press isn’t cooperating — I send requests for new

Can you please help cgeye out. If you need cgeye’s email let me know.

Just read Marc’s mail
And there were a couple of mails from AAR. I cant imagine they peddle their premium access using Marc’s show which one can only listen on a KTLK overloaded stream :mad: only when they are allowed to after they have aired all the sports shit.
They cant use Riley and Rachel to sell their premium access????? Is that why they got rid of the best morning show around??? :fu:
Time to release :jason: into Danny’s office.

Somehow I don’t think this is going to give the Democrats a sudden infusion of courage. They are still going to react as if Bush is still polling at around 90% approval.

Norm Ornstein: Dubai Ports World Is Considering Selling U.S. Operations To Halliburton
Today Dubai Ports World announced it would “transfer fully the U.S. operations…to a United States entity.” This evening on the PBS News Hour, AEI scholar Norm Ornstein said that DP World was considering selling its U.S. operations to Halliburton:
If this is done now through the backdoor, where D.P. has any role at all, Congress is going to go ballistic, and it’s going to be a disaster, I think, for the administration.
They have got a dilemma now, because there simply aren’t American companies that have the know-how and the breadth to do this. Interestingly, and perhaps ironically, what I had heard earlier in the day, as they were looking at those that have the — the kind of resources, Halliburton was a name that came up.

Otis update:
(Usually I write specifically to the blog, but here’s the story from the mass e-mail I just sent out. It’s probably not that interesting or entertaining, and repeats some info I’ve already posted, but I guess I just needed to get it all out. For those who don’t have the patience to read through, there’ll be a brief summary at the end.)
This is taken from a blog entry by James P. Hoffa on 2/23/06 at HuffPo. Halliburton is NOT mentioned.

citizenkahn, and by the way, I read it all and I would have done similar with baby monitor and I am nor even Jewish (my lead balloon humour) and Bravo Otis for crawling to you and for you for taking him to vet again and for caring:!:
The man in the hearing on TRMS ?? KPOJ’s ten minutes of commercials must have left something out.. What did he have to say ??
CK & Otis :priest: good healing thoughts to you. wishing the weekend to bring otis back to fine health. hang in there.
Thanks, Druid.
I’m okay. I did get to the chiropractor yesterday, and she did some ultrasound with stim (never had both together before), and generally set me straight. So I’m physically feeling better. But I gotta tell you, between about 5:30 and 7 (which comprised my therapy session and waiting for the vet to call me back), I was wreck. I guess once I opened the floodgates in my therapist’s office, all manner of worst-case scenarios came to the forefront. When I called the vet as planned at 6:30 and they said she had to call me back, I was convinced she had to find a quiet place to tell me Otis had died. (So you can only imagine the sobs coming out of me as we raced down 9th Avenue to get to her office from my therapist’s uptown.)
We didn’t get home till after 10; we did stop for a quick bite on the way home. I couldn’t even blog, I just hadda go right to bed. The adjustment seems to be holding, and I see plenty of Aleve in my future. I’ve gotta get some work done before Otis comes home, but today I will be gentle on myself. It’s supposed to hit 68 degrees here (!), and the sun is shining, so I will happily run errands and enjoy the ride.
I’m rambling, but thanks for asking.
fred, he asked rice (& rummy?) if they had a child serving in the immoral and illegal war. said they had blood on their hands. he repeated it numerous times and i rung through loud and clear. mr told me it made all the networks last night (i don’t watch that stuff).
also just told that the armoured vehicle on fire in baghdad can only be penetrated by one weapon.,…from Iran.
And thanks to those who responded to my first post of the day while I was writing my second!
Gore for an emergency PRES once we get rid of administration… then either Polosi or Boxer or Finegold (I think his name)……I use to like Hillary but I no longer believe in ANYONE that is DLC, and see says whatever she thinks is conservative…
isi, I thought I’d read there were several US companies that indeed could manage the ports. thanks for posting that.
did you see this on huffpo?
FK, I wonder if this is the way they manipulate to get Halliburton the contract and not the companies Hoffa mentioned:
im not even voting for hillary for senate!!!!! fuck i am not voting for any democrats this year crazy man crazy!
well maybe for city council or something like that but as far as the senate and the house are concerned :fu:
sean, you HAVE to vote for the dems… we have got to get a majority. if we can get a majority maybe they’ll find their spine. but if you dont’ have a majority, then we won’t even have a chance. VOTE.
Isi, i bet you’re right.
:fustrate::jason:i hate broken links!!!!!
But sean, if the democrats take back the house in November, John Conyers will be chairman of the judiciary committee and they can file articles of impeachment!
CK, best thoughts and wishes for you and Otis.
Fred,
Go to this link and click on what is below, about 3 minutes in you’ll hear/see the guy commenting.
citizenkahn , be gentle with yourself — you SOOOOOO deserve it. I too would have been “a mess” and what a great mate. Mine just doesn’t “GET IT” regarding great animals. But I DO….. I keep telling him that ANIMALS will cause one “to live longer” and they just care. But oh well — David, does accept me and my menagerie and strays :billcat:, sooo……he does have some good points (a joke attempt or aka my lead balloon humour)
Thanks, PJ. And thank you particularly for creating this site, where the Maronites flock and support one another. It is an amazing community!
isi, even a better reason to vote!
gotta head to hotlana to pick up fixed wheels (I bent three wheels on my car, guy said they were like eggs…don’t ask) and give my blood. I’m gonna lie if they ask anything about the health of my ticker.
I’ll be thinking of you, CK.
*HUGS* for you and Otis this morning, kahn.
well i dont like hillary and my democratic congressman is a corrupt bastard that votes too much like a republican so uh i am stuck voting for independent candidates shit i am very inclined to get myself on the ballot for congress to fuck up my congressmans re-election chances right now i am around 60% positive that i am going to quit my job in a couple months to run against the prick it only takes 1200 signatures to get on the ballot! ugh the local head of the dnc office back home argued for the patriot act and the bankruptcy bill with me when i asked how i would run in the primary against my congressman and then wouldnt help me with the information i was requesting! bastards hmmph well the board of elections was more than helpfull in providing me with information to run as an independent so anyway i think i am gonna go play video games now!
Kat Concerning that comment about the anti tank weapon… Was it Mr. FarmerKat that made that comment or some shill on the M$M ?? The M1A1 has been around for over 15 years now so you would think that the Russians and/or the Chinese would have devised something to obsolete it.
I e-mailed c.g.eye at the e-mail address used at registration, which is were any lost password stuff would go (assuming one uses the “lost password” link at the login page). I haven’t seen any other e-mails related to lost passwords.
FYI, I don’t know what your passwords are. They aren’t actually stored – just a one-way hash. So, the best I can do is change it to something else. Also, for the benefit of lurkers who may not be able to log in, you need to allow cookies here, or you won’t be able to log in and stay logged in (at the very least, you need to allow a sessin cookie to be set – and if you want to not have to log in every time you come back, you need to allow a permanent cookie).

Thanks, Druid. I do have quite a hubby. He really gets the cat thing–even though he’d never experienced pets the way I do until he met me. (Which is to say, more than just a pet, a member of the family, a loving source of comfort when you’ve had a bad day.)
The day we came back from our honeymoon, he offered Otis a piece of chicken and made a little speech declaring him “my boy now.” I was bawling by the time it was over; Otis was just happy for the chicken!

BTW, last night ReplayAV crashed on me at the converting to mp3 stage, so I had the full asf – just no mp3 I missed the first half hour of Rachel, but siince I alsmost never listen to it anyway, it was no big deal). Anyhow, I was going to convert it, but took a quick look for the torrent, and darned if it wasn’t already up. So, I’ll be able to have Marc on in my head as I walk up to campus in the not too distant future.
Gotta love those torrents.
Sean, that was FANTASTIC!! :fist:
I think I’ll listen to that AGAIN!

Hey, Sean–
We saw that band in the summer of ’04 at Satire for Sanity. They were better than any of the comics there–thanks for the link!
Sean.. AAR should play that song between commercials… err.. segments.
(Even better than Bruce Cherry, who hubby particularly enjoyed! But a song, you can take home with you forever. Maybe that’s why I like Brian’s so much.)
Shall we have a bake sale to raise $$ to buy another station in Phoenix?:omg:

Hey everyone! Ive been reading everything since I went to bed last night…wow!! so much is goig on….and Im dying to hear Marc’s show from last night and Pashman!!!
Ive been saying for a long time that Marc eed a laughing presence in the room…and before they moved to the new studio with the fancy separation of the booth it was so much better even on MS. Marc makes great use of his crew and he humanizes all of them in a way that you end up loving them! Eve the gentle giant on the phone who has never really said much is such a great character. When Al tries to talk to his guy its so stilted!! So why arent they turning on the mics and letting the guys laughter ring through?…it makes so much more sense!…it works!
What if they made a network and no one listened?
Wait–what if they made a network and people listened, so they changed it and then no one listened?
No, wait–what if they made a network that actually tapped into something powerful and then made sure no one could listen to it?
Give me a second, I’m sure I’ll come up with something.
Hey, Melina. Your specialized-MRI episode sounded like quite the ordeal. One thing’s for certain: No woman was involved in engineering that contraption!
Bounce yer boobies, indeed . . .
Thanks PJ. I passed your message to cgeye to act on. cgeye if you are on, welcome to the blog.

no maron today 😥
Thanks, hchaddha!
CK- I am so very glad that Otis is on the mend. I can just imagine your vet bill…I hope you have the pet insurance, though it only tends to cover around half of what things cost aorund here. They figure customary charges in some tiny town in the middle of the country and then they teleport back to the 50’s and use those prices as a guideline!!
My last big hospitalization cost $4000 and they disallowed it because Angelina had a stomach problem in the first few days that she was with me…so they connected that to this huge problem that eded up beig…???….that is cotrolled by pepcid and pepto bismol and very careful feeding.
So IM still fightig with them because no one can say for sure that the two were connected, so why would they err on the side of them BEING conected?
Anyway, having been through all these tests and her nearly dying….god, who knew that there was a blood bank for animals? What does a transfusion cost? Incredible!!
I thought all the IVs were bad (these little dogs lose fluids so fast that you have to run to the vet to avoid an IV situation!)
Well, Otis is a lucky guy to have such a great Mom!
Thanks, Melina.
No pet insurance (kicking myself for that), and the bill for the post-operative care is almost twice that of the surgery! (Although I keep hoping they overestimated the care he’ll need at the 24-hour facility and it won’t be as much as they said.) Hubby keeps saying it’s not an issue, but there is a teeny part of me that feels like, “I’ll pay it back, I promise!” like some little kid, but he’s not worrying about that so I don’t have to give voice to it. (Except here . . . and maybe in therapy.)
I’m doing the best I can for the little guy. I wish I’d slept in the dining room with him Wednesday–the baby monitor was supposed to be the compromise that would allow me (and my spasm) to sleep in relative comfort while maintaining peace of mind.
Well, I’m off to do some much-needed food shopping. It’s been so long that even the freezer is empty!
My Mom called me at the crack of dawn to tell me about the rumblings that the payback for this Dubai deal is that the ports are ow gona go to a Halliburton subsidiary…talk about incompetent!! THATS who we need running the ports…oh God!
Halliburtoon really needs to change its name…maybe they can become a subsidiary of Altria…a subsidiary of Phillip Morris…part of the healthy and clean lungs act!!
Did ayone hear that woman on Rachel’s show the other day with the new blue pages book? It tells you what corporations own what, down to the products, so you know when shopping what youre really supporting.
I went to a meeting the other night to find out about becoming a sales person for a line of vitamins that I take annd really love…and after this big presentation my questions were 1. is this product made in America or is it made by chinese children? and 2. is the corporation a big Republican donor and do they outsource any part of their business? They thought I was crazy because the people there just want to know the profit margin and security of the deal….I love this product, but I wont work with a republican corporation and I am really trying not to deal with the slave labor market!
Of course there is the sneaker problem in that unless you have them custon made you cat get sneakers that arent made in a sweat shop!!So Rachel said offhand that we should kow if our beggi strips were made by Phillip MOrris…which freaked me out because beggin strips are my dog’s favorite junk snack…and now I have to get the book and find out.
CK- you eed to sleep in your bed so that your back doesnt spasm…you cant take care of ayone if youre in pain! If youre that worried then move him to your room next to your bed.
I hate to say this but whe Angie pup went in my vet, Steve, said that it would be around 2 grand…and Will was cryig and Angie was half dead even though they had sent us home from the triage of the emergency hospital in the middle of the night sayign that she surely wont die or become too dehydrated by morning…so there we were ready for the IV ad off she went…and after 3 sets of Xrays to see if anything was lodged in her and a sonogram ad almost a week later, she sort of got better…ad the bill had somehow grown to $4000…and it still sits on a credit card beig transferred to the 0%’s I can find and just my usual growing revloving debt…oh well…
The funny thing is that she is stable on all human medications that I can easily get…so in the future I am gonna try the human meds first…I also hoarde vet antibiotics and use them if there is a fever or infection.
At some point Im gonna look into becoming a kennel so I can do my own shots and stuff…because I love dogs and I have land…but the vet bills are what I consider rather than time or energy….and in the breed because Chihuahuas have bad rotten teeth etc…
Sean,
You may have seen this one already.

Good Morning,
I think the same thing happened to my recording of the show last night PJ. Thank god there are others a obsessed as I am about the Funny. It’s been taking up a lot of my time to screw around with it.
via majority report blog
Those of you who are recording the show might want to learn about Torrents and down load the MP3’s .. The torrents on MiniNova even get MP3’s with the commercials edited out.
So I was on my way home from Stew Leonard’s (I’m embarrassed to say, I love that place–though I could do without all the kiddie stuff, which is why I take full advantage of my self-employed status to shop there during the week), and I heard an update of the story of the 13-year-old New Jersey girl who was “abducted” (being investigated) and possibly sexually assaulted earlier this week. (You may have heard of this case: She text-messaged her mother to tell her she’d been abducted.)
One of the guys involved, a 19-year-old, is charged with statutory rape. They said authorities don’t yet know if it was consensual (the two had met some time earlier at a mall), but that, according to the court, even if it was, a 13-y/o “does not have the capacity to consent.”
So . . . girls under 16 don’t have the capacity to consent. They’re children, not responsible for their actions. So why is it that those same children, if they get pregnant, are suddenly thrust in the position of, many times, being forced to take responsibility via bringing the baby to term and then having to raise it?!?!
Anyway, I know I’m not gonna have to work too hard to get anyone here (except maybe Jeffy–RIP–and Sammy) to agree with me, but for cryin’ out loud!!!
WTF?!?

Because the rethug reich wing Christians are nuts is the most probable argument. They are not logical in any of their arguments on creation or abortion but they like the death penalty.. go figure.
Fred–
You’re right, of course. There is no rhyme or reason to their “belief” system, the main focus of which is to ensure their own rights and deny others’ . . .
Haiku that came to me on the way home from Stew’s:

(PJ, that’s not your fault, it’s mine–for checking it obsessively!)
Wow, 60 degrees today, and there are tons of geese squadrons flying north. If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was spring.
Great show last night. Good to hear Brian and Pashman, and I thought the War on Brains and Jim’s anger bit were great. The porn stuff was interesting to me, too, since in a past life I was a projectionist at a porn theatre when I was starting out as a projectionist. Two different porn theatres, actually. They call Ron Jeremy “The Hedgehog.”
Funny, people think if you’re a projectionist, you have to sit there and actually watch the movies. I never used to look at ’em unless I had to (some things just aren’t meant to be seen brightly lit, and forty feet high. Or wide. Or both).
I used to get a ton of reading done, actually. For a long time, I worked 9AM – 10:30PM and 10-4 on Saturdays. Lots and lots of time to read.
It was great experience for starting out, though, because you had to run the machines constantly, and the film was in really bad shape, so it used to break all the time.
 Well, I was just about to throw down how much it feels like spring here in Anchortown, but then I looked up the temp and it’s like 8 degrees F:omg: The temp should hit a high of 30 in the next few days, though
Oh, I missed last night’s show:spank:
its cold here as well, though not 8 Far. – a bit warmer like 40.
PJ, did that job help you move up in the projectionist (sp?) pecking order?
It was 73 degrees a couple hours ago here in “sunny NYC”–on its way to 75.
Crazy shit.
Hey, Travis–what’s up?!?
I haven’t listened to last night’s show but I think I got it–let me know if you need it and I can break it up and send it to your gee mail account.
Hey, peoples?!? (I know I didn’t need the ?!?)
I’m lucky to get 70 in the full bloom of summer:oops:
Hey, Kahn, I’m especially intersted in hearing Brian, so if it isn’t any big burden, maybe you could send the show my way? Please. Coolness:bow:
Yeah, I guess so. You started out as an “extra worker” and worked where the business agent had openings that he couldn’t fill with unon members. So, I did that for a while, and then I got some relief work, working days off for the “legit” theatres. Then I applied and was accepted to be an apprentice, and I had to go around – on my own time – and get my apprenticeship card filled out (I worked with the union-designated “expert” on various categories, until they were satisfied that I knew everything I needed to know. There were power supplies, lamphouses, projectors, sound, automation, management – had to be a manager/projectionist at a lot of theatres – and a few others that I can’t recall at the moment).
Then, when that was done, I took a long written test, and then a practical one, which consisted of going to a theatre after hours with the entire union membership in the audience. Then they gave me a reel of film that was all screwed up (put together incorrectly, bad splices, broken sprocket holes, automation cues put in all over the place, and in general just messed up. Then they took the projector halfway apart and screwed that up, and also the lamphouse, and of course the amps and lighting and all that stuff.
Then I had to fix everything and put a show on the screen in x amount of time, and all the union guys would rate you, and vote you in or out based on the two tests. Somewhat intimidating, but we took out craft very seriously.
So after I was in, I was able to bid on theatre openings, and eventually got my own legit theatre (had a few that I worked at in my time, and I used to do a lot of relief work, too).
Then Lowes bought out all the theatres in the area and pressured us into a shitty contract, and started closing theatres – especially the standalone ones. I saw the writing on the wall and did a career change. Eventually, the chain got sold to Hoyt’s, which is feircely anti-union, and everybody got the boot.
It drives me nuts when I go to see a movie now, because withing a couple days the prints in lousy shape, the aperatiure plates are never filed correctly the gate isn’t adjusted right, so part of the picture is out of focus, the lamhouse isn’t aligned properly…. Well, I notice all that. Nobody else does. The price sure didn’t go down when they replaced union people with 16 year old kids, though.
wow that does sound pretty serious- what career did you decide to change to?
Kevin M G’Morning, and please since you are no longer doing what you started, I will stop so you can do again what you were doing? I Never wanted to take Thunder. And it is so strongly stated.

Feel free to do it whenever you want. I may have created it, but I don’t hold the copyright. 😀
I haven’t retired it, I just don’t use it for all posts. It kinda loses its effect if I do it to close a post about college basketball or Three 6 Mafia. My excuse this morning is that I was running late and had to post and run.

I worked at a movie theatre for about 2 weeks. I got the flu and missed a few days, so they fired me. I didn’t care too much, ’cause the hours were horrible and I was in school. Oh, and making popcorn and having people come up to you to tell you that it doesn’t taste right and the butter is yucky and the soda doesn’t have the right mixture of co-2 and corn syrup, and then managers that are 18 and powertrippin’… Anyway, I lost my enthusiasm for the theater concession business after that episode.
Back to the news of the day: Gale Norton Resigns. Hmm, I wonder why
Hey, man, don’t leave my bad writing out there like that.
I just read this little piece about Armstrong and Dana Reeve’s son Will, spending time together. Sad stuff.
In case anyone is interested, a caller told Mike Malloy last night that Ed Schultz did not approve the the effort to buy a Phoenix station to replace KXXT. Malloy immediately went into a diatribe about Schultz being a Republican, a phony, a stooge for conservatives. Then the caller said that Schultz did not approve of the “bake sale” approach to obtaining a new station. Schultz would rather have, the caller said, investors put up money and buy a station in the conventional way. In other words, with no interference from the masses. Is that democratic?:rofl2:

weren’t those the days? real film and real splicing….are they evenusing real film in theaters anymore ?
I grew up with an editing room in my living room and played in the bins…and then fell asleep drunk in the bins later.
There is something about the smell of real film stock, especially newly processed.
So here I am getting my hair colored at the salon
and realizing that ALL of my email is coming here for some reason…so I have to get back on the phone with verizon tech…ugh!
Lets see….the show from last nite is SO great…really fantastic. I wish they could keep Pashman.
also, its so great to hear Brian. I have to play it for Will.
I was thinking, along the lines of how Marc makes relationships with his crew …did Brian ever call Riley? I was streaming the Riley show this am by accident and I realized again that almost everything that I liked about MS was due to Marc. I loved the relationship between the Marcks and that was half and half, and I lked Riley’s booming laugh…that was due to Marcs Comedy and Marks appreciation of it…..
I’m just not missing the Dog of the Day or…whatever…I am forever happy that Marc chose the right things to bring with him (and Jim, of course) and that he got Brian in the split!
rinse!!
Yep, still using film. Not many using reels anymore, though – it’s all on platters. Won’t be long before it’s all digital. Film is actually layers of emulsion, so there’s a depth and texture to it that you’ll never get with video.
My favorites were the carbon arc lamphouses, ‘cuz it took some skill to get the arc just right, and keep the draft adjusted and the carbons burning correctly. Plus, you’d have to decide whether you had a long enough carbon to last a whole reel or not.
I loved the places w/o automation. For one thing, you didn’t have to be a manager, ‘cuz you couldn’t leave the booth. They had these big manual dimmers for the house lights, and stage lights and then you had the curtain and masking motors. I used to have a thing where I’d start to fade the music down, and then bring down the stage lights as I hit the curtain, and then bring down the house lights slowly to the point I’d leave them at for the trailers, and then I’d bring them down the rest of the way for the feature. And of course, if you had flat trailers and a scope feature, you’d have to move the masking and do a lens change real quicklike (unless you had the trailers on a separate reel, but that was no fun). Now you just punch a button, and they don’t even have curtains. They show freakin’ TV commercials with a video projector.
At one of my theatres, an old-timer used to stop by to shoot the shit with me, and he had some good stories. When he started running talkies, they had a record, and you’d have to cue up the film and the record to the right spot so they were in sync on the changeover. He said if they were off, they’d use their fingers to speed it up or slow it down to the right spot.
Back then, they hadn’t invented the clutch on the takeup reel, so the film would run into a box, and then the rewind boy (which is how a lot of the old guys got started) would catch the end (hopefully – otherwise you’d have to find the right end inthe box), and then take it over and wind it back onto the reel by hand.
You had to be very careful too, ‘cuz it was acetate back then (not the “safety” film they have now), and alot of people died in fires. The theatres I worked at still had the big heavy shields over the projector ports that were held up with fusible links, so that if there was a fire, the links would melt, and the shields would drop.
Oops. Probably nobody gives a shit about all of that. Sorry. Oh well, could be worse I could talk about routing. Or refrigeration, and the Laws of Thermodynamics.
good riddance to gale norton. announcement comes at 4:35 pm e.s.t. on a friday, so the bushies don’t want anyone to talk about it. she’ll go to some million dollar job and the people behind bush will find someone who’s even worse as a replacement for her. 😡

An Interview with John Murphy
How the Green Party Slays Their Own
By JOSHUA FRANK
John Murphy is running an antiwar pro-civil liberties campaign for US Congress from the 16th District of Pennsylvania (www.johnmurphyforcongress.org). Murphy, a Green, was denied his party’s endorsement last month because, as Murphy believes, he supported Ralph Nader and was critical of David Cobb in 2004. Murphy recently spoke with Joshua Frank about his campaign as well as the future of the Green Party. . .

The Israeli Wall, the Javits Center and the Bullying of an Architect
From Rachel Corrie to Richard Rogers
By SAREE MAKDISI
Richard Rogers, the noted British architect, was recently summoned to the offices of the Empire State Development Corp. to explain his connection to a group called Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine. Empire State is overseeing the redesign of New York’s $1.7-billion Javits Convention Center, and Rogers is the architect on the job.
According to media reports, Rogers has sparked the anger of various New York politicians and Jewish organizations for what he now claims was only a fleeting association with Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine. The group has taken the “outrageous” position that Israel’s West Bank barrier (sometimes referred to euphemistically as a “security fence”) is, well, problematic–because most of it is built not on Israel’s 1967 border but within the West Bank; because it violates international law; because it separates farmers from their land, one town from another, people from their doctors, children from their schools; and because it generally wreaks havoc on Palestinian life.
Members of the group have proposed a boycott of Israeli architects and construction companies working on the barrier, saying their involvement in such a project makes them “complicit in social, political and economic oppression” and is “in violation of their professional code of ethics.” […]

“They are Trying to Intimidate and Silence Critics of US Foreign Policy”
FBI Grills Professor Over Support for Venezuela
By ELENA SHORE
A Pomona College professor who is an outspoken critic of U.S. policy in Venezuela was questioned on March 7th by two agents from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) in what he calls an act of intimidation…

As the Washington Post once noted, modern democracy works best when the political “parties essentially agree on most of the major issues”. The Financial Times put it more bluntly: capitalist democracy can best succeed when it focuses on “the process of depoliticizing the economy.”
“The twentieth century has been characterised by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy.” (Alex Carey, ‘Taking the Risk out of Democracy’, University of Illinois Press, 1995, p.18)
thanks,pj, didn’t know he had a blog today –
I am so afraid that is happening- its difficult but I am sure they can find someone worse, not to mention this via DailyKos which can explain why no one can talk about it.
Afternoon all, from the chilly blustery SF Bay Area (no, really – down to the 30’s and snow as low as 500 feet – this is cold for us!). And now I have to ask for you HEEEELP :fire:
Help me! I tried to subscribe to the podcast option, but all I get is a bunch of code on the screen when it looks like it should be going to a list of podcasts or something. That’s on a pc at my job, haven’t tried on my Mac at home yet, which has ITunes, and which I used to receive the MS podcasts on. Crucial question – do we have to pay money to have access to these podcasts? It looks like the aar website says you have to be a premium member, is this indeed the case? I filled in my info on some kind of form there and it didn’t ask me for any kind of payment. I cannot stay up late enough to listen on the computer, can only take the radio to bed with me (not the computer!). I’m hoping 960 Quake will heed my letters (our letters? Hope the rest of you SF Bay Area Maronites have been writing and calling them!). I did get Marc’s email yesterday, and I’m stickin’, but I can’t listen until either free podcasting happens or 960 carries it (hopefully not at some ungodly hour).
🙁 I need the funny
FRED:
yes it was mr that said that. i asked him your question and he said that the only thing that will pierce those are “shaped charges” which have to be finely milled something-o-other (don’t remember the word he used). He said the Iranians have them and taught Hezbollah how to use them against the Israelis (who use those M1A1). They have caught some coming over the border. does that help?

Lamont just said he will announce Monday at 4:00 pm at the Old State House in Hartford, CT that he will oppose Joe Lieberman!!
He also said that had he been in the Senate he would have SUPPORTED the filibuster of Alito!
Melina, can you go to the rally on Monday and report back?

Hey, Travis–
I conked out for about three hours there and am now preparing to head out for Otis’s visiting hours, but if you can hold on till later tonight or tomorrow, I’d be happy to oblige!
does norton have an abramoff problem?
I heard that, too, isi. I’d be the happiest person in the world if lieberman was ousted and replaced by a decent dem.
FK, well I guess you didn’t break your jaw at the Red Cross today??
Well PJ and his carbon arc lamp projectors remind me of high school. In the days before solid state controls they used to have power rheostat’s to control the brightness of the stage lights and carbon arc spotlights. The main light panel was about ten feet long and eight feet high and had eight 10kw leaver rheostat’s that controlled the intensity of the lights in the on stage lighting. There was a big handle on each one and you could push up or pull down on it to change the light brightness. The power went through a huge wire wound resistor that the handle controlled the tap on. The lights were mounted in coffee cans on two inch pipes that ran the width of the stage and could be raised and lowered to change bulbs by a counter weighted set of block and tackle attached to each pipe. There was a friction brake that locked the rope that went over the blocks so that you would not have the lights come down by them selves in the case of a slight misbalance. Once in a while the brake would come off and a whole set of lights would slowly descend out of the loft above the stage and head for the floor below. That was really exciting when that happened during a performance. Today this is all done with a laptop with a virtual light dimmer panel that runs a bank of soild state dimmers though the USB port. Electric winches raise and lower the lights. The two inch pipes are still there and the stage lights are still in coffee cans though.
Farmerkat, I will try this, thank you. Should work on pc’s and mac’s?
Bankruptcy Bill
Bankruptcy Bill
:omg:Sam Seder is talking with CT Senatorial candidate Lamont. New bankruptcy bill was discussed. And I heard some hopeful things related to it.
First!
I am deathly afraid of what corporate-dominated America has in store for the majority. The economy is going to hell. Good jobs are becoming scarce. And corporations are tightening the screws, with bipartisan support. The new bankruptcy law is but one example. Get hit with a financial disaster, and be forced to pay it off until you die. Furthermore, I, like perhaps many people, fear that sooner or later, I will take an economic hit. But then, why are there still lawyers who solicit for helping people file for bankruptcy in the backpages of “The Portland Mercury–Portland’s version of The Village Voice. Chapter 7 even?
To cut this short, today Sam Seder noted that a federal judge was highly critical of the new law, saying it was unfair that corporations could file for bankruptcy, but not human beings. Perhaps we can turn this tide back!:omg:
Ah – but at the first link, Farmerkat, it says “So you’ve subscribed to the Premium service from Air America Radio, and you want to download your favorite show, right?”. I have not subscribed to any ‘service’. Is this where they charge $? How much?
Kat: I was wondering about the inference to IRAN in the story about the anti tank weapons and whether that was from our M$M shilling for Busho for a war with IRAN or someone who actually knew that was what was going on. Appears to be the latter. Tnx.
Stern. O’Reilly is not calling the authorities on Olbermann mentioning callers. He is sicking the Fox News Security Gestapo on them.
Farmerkat, the 2nd link brings me to the same page I got when I logged on to my aar account (far as I know, not a “premium” service account), went through some registration page, and then clicked on podcast. Just strings of code.
am sending good wishes and prayers out to otis for good health and long life and speedy return to his home.
Seder :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2::rofl2::eek::eek:
i have heard someone on AAR mention Norton is in the web of Ambromoff dealings. Talking Points memo is always handy in this sort of thing:
EX-NY
it’s the url in the address bar that you need to copy (not the code stuff). then in itunes you paste that in when you add a podcast
Ex, if you want the podcasts, you have to subscribe to AAR’s premium service, and then add it to your favorite podcatcher (e.g., iTunes). Or learn about BitTorrent, BitTorrent clients like Azureus, and places to search for torrents, like ChomskyTorrents and MiniNova (for instance, for the Marc Maron Show).
melina, you’ve got a great mom, calling you at dawn about the dubai ports deal. :nixon:
Interior Secretary Gale Norton resigned today, the Associated Press has confirmed. Norton, photographed at left with fallen conservative lobbyist Jack Abramoff, was fingered in deals with Native American tribes that Abramoff represented. Hey, guys, thanks for the kind things you’ve said about being solo while mr f is gone. (i’m quite worried about him this weekend, btw) YOU’re very kind.

druid,
one of my favorite things to do is kayak the Columbia River in the snow with ice flows coming down the Wenatchee river dumping in to the Columbia.. ummmmmm
=> and thanks to YOU for your kind words above
Evening, y’all. At least it’s evening here. Just hearing about Norton resigning. Is it purely due to Abramoff connections? I’m sure that’s not the official spin, though, right??? I’ll check out some of the links above…. Thanks.
Hey, does anyone know if it’s true that Air America is losing WLIB after 3/31? It’s all over the wingnut press, but there seems to be only one source for the info; and it seems to be a guy with an axe to grind about AAR.
Is this an omen? The local traffic sponsor for the Atlanta AAR affiliate today has been an ad for a Billy Graham TV special.
christian-oriented companies (it seems) are buying the STATIONS and not buying aar programing. from what malloy said (& franken) aar is doing fine. AAR sells the content so if someone else purchases the station, they can do what they want with it. malloy said there’s a mole in aar.
I’ve proposed playing the Lottery to win big bucks and buy stations. but maybe there’s a way to do it without playing the Lottery.
AND boy, do these guys have their priorities “straight.”
Catholic Charities to halt adoptions over issue involving gays
Hey, Farmerkat! Did Malloy say that the Atlanta affiliate has been sold to a Christian group? I thought I heard that but may have misunderstood….
Malloy didn’t speak directly about the Atlanta station. He spoke about how the misguided (my word for rightie) are saying that aar is doing poorly because they are going off certain stations when, in fact, that is not a sign of aar’s health. he did say some rather uncharitable things about the mole, though.
later!
Farmerkat re “kayak the Columbia River — Beautiful, sounds like “poetry in motion”. 😉

This is from BradBlog, written by someone named Sander Bellman on 3/2/06:
There was a Billy Graham ad on the Seattle affilate today as well.
I won’t be participating.
Had lunch at the Black Cat Cafe though.
The coffee was awesome. They advertise on Progressive talk 1090.
There should be away of giving AAR premium gift certificates. Must research this.
PJ- facinating stuff about being a projectionist.
What Wim Wender’s film does that remind you of?
I was a ticket taker at the Varsity theater along with Julia Sweeney when the theater had Breaker Morant on a one year run back in the early 80’s.

Warning: Controversial a little towards third party voters…
Isi-Hartford is the capital of CT but it is something over an hour NW of here into the armpit of Western CT …not that I wouldnt go anyway, but the people who have latched onto Lamont are some of the usual suspects around here who are real meet up movers and shakers and so Im not too worried about him having a crowd. They are also the Deaniacs and connected right into that little world…
Im actually sorta concerned about Lamont…and along those lines have been waiting to see Sean back online to talk to him about the reality of these upcoming elections and his vote in the midterms.
All of the top Dems in this state have endorsed Lieberman…WHY??? I dont know…its some sorta deal. People who have been opposed to him are suddenly in his camp but they are careful to say that they dont agree with him on the war! They say things like “we will agree to disagree”…huh? Havent they looked at the polls lately on the war?
My sister is connected into the Diane farrell people and goes to alot of those fundraisers and whatever. She is trying to get me to go to a Paul Begala (sp) meeting that costs “only” $100…this when I cant afford to go to my son’s school fundraiser ($300!)…but Id like to get to one of those parties to talk to Farrell and try to find out what the fuck is happening.
It is imperative that Farrell win over Shays…it is imperative that the Democrat in Joe’s seat wins over whatever repug…no matter how two faced Joe is…If Joe is in a situation where he can be pressured by a Dem majority he will vote the right way!
The thing is that Lamont probably doesnt have a great chance. I probably will still vote for him depending on who the Repugs are running…but I dont know if I can go and throw my whole energy behind him until I have a feeling of how this is going.
We MUST get a majority in the house and senate…and/or…better to be AND!!
So, SEANIE!!!…if you want to see hearings and impeachment over the damage that these criminals have done, the first step is getting the majority…Then we have to work back to the fairess docterine and election reform and stuff.
Hillary, at least wants to give us healthcare…she at least is in some of the right areas of things. And if she is positioning herself to run for the whitehouse, well, maybe thats what it takes. I cant say I would be happy with a Hillary run…but she has been great for NY. Dont put us above positionig and using every dirty trick in the book because Dems not being stealth and crazy enough is what got us these 8 years!!
Im wondering Sean, what you dont like about her ayway. If you just dont like her, which is very common round here and especially among men, its not a good enough reason to give up our hearings and impeachment and eventual roll back of the craziness thats going on…thats the choice…we need Hillary in the senate…the rest is gonna have to be figured out next.
Sorry to all of you who want a third party sweep, but its not realistic in this atmosphere…its not what we can do now…and the choice is simple, really…do you want to take any chance that we wont be able to make these people pay in some way for what theyve done? Do you want a Repug majority, lame or not, to continue these policies that are so bad for the enviornment, our children, our security, and the poor? We are not going to be able to fix this stuff in most of our lifetimes…QG and Trav and Sean are gonna be old by the time the supreme court is ever straightened out…and we are losing CHOICE, wasting time on having to retry settled law, and not educating our children…they are all left behind and that is gonna be a whole generation or more of people who wont be capable of figuring out what is going on…I want third parties and the runoff 1-2-3 election structure that Rachel talks about…but now is not the time. We have to work towards this stuff and if we misstep now we are going to be that much further behind…2 more years behind. How much will the ice caps melt in that time, how much more mercury and poison in our food, how many more people dead in disasters and attacks that are so possible because cronys have no experience and we are not protected at all?
LaMOnt is a great guy and from what Ive heard he has alot of rosy ideas of healthcare and education… they all have to say that stuff and Im sure he is serious…but the truth is that whoever gets in will probably not get much of anything done at all, which equals what Lieberman does. Lamont also has o experience. Old Joe is a brown nose, and he will follow the power…so we have to get the power!
If you really look at this thing, Lamont only exists really to send a strog message to Joe that he is gonna lose his job if he doesnt get it together and follow like a good little brown nose!….But lets see what happens…
Ayway, the short answer is that Im not gonna drag myself all the way to Hartford for an announcement…but I will go and see him when he comes here…and he will come here. The people on his campaign live right up the street from me and This is one of the biggest cities around. They also tend to have little talking parties in their house where you can really ask questions, so Id prefer that…
Sorry if Ive offended anyone…its just my opinion.
Oh ad PJ…I love that sorta stuff…there is nothing like all that old film stuff. You should hear my grandpa about the beginning of radio…Wax records and saving shows on wire during the war…
and Id also love to hear about routers…and particularly home wireless networks ad how to fully share XP machines!!
But then Im a little techy and always working on these things.
Yay AP IPSOS Poll…Kieth is on…
Travis, I can cut the show up and send it to you…give me a minute.
Hey guys-apparently there was an oil spill in Alaska on the 2nd and they’re only just NOW getting around to reporting it. Is this the future of the spread of information? Delaying all the bad news? :fu:
I don’t know if I’ll actually get time to do it, but I’m thinking about creating a database for the Marc shows. I guess I’d like to have host (never know when there might be a guest host or something; not sure what you’d call Jim – cohost or sidekick or something), guests, and bits, plus comments. Maybe even notable callers, like Brian/Gypsy/Jason. The idea would be so that you could, say, query all shows with Sammy the Stem Cell, or War on Brains, or where Greg Proops was the guest or whatever. Of course, I’d have to get my brain back into database design mode. I’m not sure even why I want to do it, other than I’d have liked to do it for MS, but never got around to it, and it would take forever to listen to the shows and write all the guests down.
So, anyway, if anybody has a definitive list of guest/bits/whatever, let me know (you’d think with only seven show in the can, I could remember, but nope). I’d like to start accumulating it now.
man, I dont think blogging is made for those of us who like to write magazine sized articles. . .
I like those long posts:growl:
Anyway, I tried to tell you guys about that spill a week ago. Maybe you missed it, Gaijinda.:gate:
But, yeah, you’d think that the news would travel faster through the MSM! :40:
Paul- are you saying that you dont like my long posts? I could break em up if it would make you happy….
Travis- Did you get the show? I sent it in little pieces…not sure if I cut em small enough.
Yep, just got it! Thanks!
It is SO good…I guess gmail ca take a bit more than 10M per mail…2 of those were 15….
Brian from Everett….yay! Have fun travis!
Farmerkat-Just was readig Mr’s blog and I can see you must be worried betwee bloodletting and him being over there…just want to extend any support possible and at least an ear/reading eye…Hang in there! This insanity will soon be over and those responsible will have to answer, so Mr can work on hearings and trials for a while!
Thanks, again. I’m trying to watch the nightly news, so as soon as that’s over I’ll turn on the SHOW!
Oops–musta missed the part where Melina sent the show to Travis. I just came home and was almost finished chopping it up for ya, buddy! 🙁
Patience!
I didnt even listen to it till this afternoon!…and then I listened to Rachel just a while ago…usually I listen to her first because thats time sensitive news…
What is so screwed up is that Chris Matthews is at that Stupid Repug meetig and calling the specials all weeked “choice of President” or some such….as if its just up to the repugs to decide…
So there is no mention of whatever Dem thig is happening this weekend and Chris is just sitting there with the Draft Condi people and whoever talking about how the prez’s numbers are going down…its like theatre.
McCain asked everyoe to write Bush’s name on the straw poll and Chris says that its supposed to sound like a supportive gesture for Repugs to show their support, but McCain knows that the Prez will come out LOW so he is really making a statement on how low the Prez has fallen!
They almost expect Rudy to be #1 ad McCai #2 and then Bush (who is just a straw candidate or whatever…just for a gesture..)
Sorry CK- I shoulda left you an email…sice you said maybe tomorrow I figured you wold be with Otis.
How is Otis, BTW?
:doh:I’m sorry. I think I may have screwed up by not writing anything. I figured you (kahn) would get the show to me sometime, so I was just waiting. But then Melina was nice enough to get the show rolling.
I only have the first 14:55 sec (i dont know if that’s with or without commercials), so if we could work out a plan for rest, that be cool. Um, and I’m sorry. I can handle waitin’, I think.
Travis, no chance of getting you to use bittorrent?
Wait-they take their commercial break at 14:55:doh:
Happy birthday QG!
I figured I didn’t need it ‘cuz I can hear the show at a good hour. So, I pulled a Bushie and didn’t pay attention about that stuff. Don’t I have to pay, like, fifty bucks for that replay thing, though?
I doubly messed up! The commercials are edited out:banana:
No worries, guys. I mean, I was frustrated in the moment, but I guess the good thing about big issues is that they make the little things seem, well, little.
Let me know, Trav, if you still need the files. I won’t delete ’em right away.
I don’t even know where to begin with the Otis update, but the upshot is: He’s doing better. Not out of the woods yet, although he is no longer considered “critical for anemia” (I don’t have my notes in front of me so I may not have the term exactly right). That means that he is now getting enough oxygen through his blood that his breathing is back to normal, or close to it. (The second transfusion, which he had last night, was of “oxyglobin,” a synthetic form of hemoglobin. So he didn’t actually boost his RBC with the second transfusion but he did get an oxygen boost from it, which was important.) But the actual red cell count hasn’t gone up since yesterday.
He’s been through a bazillion tests already, and most of the ones that have come back have come back normal. He doesn’t seem to be generating new red cells yet, but they think that could change. (I won’t bore you with why they think that.) His abdominal sonogram was relatively normal–there are some changes to his liver that probably are the result of his not eating for several days. (Although they did get some food into him before we came. He was quite the mess; it was all over his face and the Elizabethan collar.) And he was grouchy–he basically has one good paw right now. There’s the back leg that was operated on, the front paw they used for the first transfusion, and the other back paw they used for the second transfusion–both of which are now bandaged up. He reminds me of that old picture of Smokey the Bear as a cub, burned in a forest fire, with his paws covered in gauze.
Anyway, it was great to see him. He was perkier than yesterday, and though he growled at the doctor and the tech (and, later, when he realized he was staying there, at us), he was clearly more himself. All good stuff (fingers crossed), but he’s gonna be there at least till Monday. Thank God my husband is cool with hauling ass to and from the city for visiting hours! He was very sweet with Otis tonight, telling him to hurry up and make some red blood cells soon . . . I’ve cried a lot the past few days, and tonight I was crying from relief. I expect I ain’t done yet!
Anyway, I thank you all again for the good wishes. The support I get here is immeasurable.
:love::love::love:
For Replay, yeah. For BitTorrent, no. When I get a chance, I’ll try and put something together to explain it, how it works, and how to use it.
citizenkahn, thank you for the update. i read it slowly and appreciated that you gave the details. i feel teary for what you’re going through and hopeful for otis coming out of this in good health. i’ll keep sending prayers and good wishes for his speedy recovery.
Travis- I took the commercials out…and there are 4 files that are 10-15 MB each…
Let me know if you want me to send em again.
CK- so glad that he is holding on and that you are too! It sounds like he just needs some time now.
My Buck dog (9 years old, chihuahua/Jack Russell terrier) when he was a pup, went in for a routine neuter and had a wandering ball in his tummy so they went looking for it a little…and for some reason his heart stopped on the table. They got it started again with a shot of adrenalin and closed him up quick but he went way downhill from the shock and got an infection. He was really sick for a few days but then slowly started to rally and…well, here is is marking all over the house to make sure that everyone knows its his house and keep his pack of girls in line!…and, he is a doll and a real Mommy’s boy…a nervous guy who was extremely mistreated as a puppy, so never got his moods under cotrol, scared and agressive, but I adore him!
Anyway, Ive found that sometimes they dip after an operation even if things go perfectly…and with some patience they slowly climb back up. Of course, your bank acct is emptying as they slowly get better but at some point, what can you do?
Hang in and keep us informed.
Thanks, foggyblue. I told Otis tonight that so many people are pulling for him, including many who have never even met him! I am very moved by the response, and I know that getting through this has been made so much easier by being able to “talk” about it here.
Sometimes I feel like referring my “other” friends here so they can read what’s going on with me! That’s how much a home this blog has become for me.
Thanks again for your good thoughts. Have a good night and stay warm!
Thanks, Melina. It’s very scary, but I’m heartened by your experience. It’s weird, but we’ve (me, hubby, and the doctors) practically stopped talking about the fact that this cat had knee surgery four days ago! Everything else has crowded it out. The bank account . . . ? That’s another story, but the amazing thing, as my husband pointed out, is that we live in a city with not one but two 24-hour veterinary facilities. So if I can take a step back, I find myself actually grateful for the technology and accessibility that is making this depletion (of $$$) possible.
If that makes any sense.
Well, three-hour nap notwithstanding, I’m beat. Good night,
:sheep:le!
Well, good night everyone…I hope those sports people are having fun during our funny time!! damn it all!
Travis, I hope you can open those files! There are supposed to be 4 emails with a file in each…and they are numbered. The Torrent is a good way to go. PJ if you do write up simple instructions will you post them here or send em to me please? ;-)Im gonna go read the paper and hope to sleep but at least catch Jon Stewart.
Wait! I only have 1 e-mail so far, so amytime anybody wants to send the show my way, that’d be cool. I’m gettin’ tired, so I can wait ’till tomorrow or something.
Otis will pull through:billcat:I’m still worried about Farmerkat’s operation, though:love:
I think I’ll go to sleep now before my delusions surface. Later, sheeple. Oh, it sounded like a good show last night, too:doh:
I would be so thankful if you explained the bittorrents PJ. I think I need to download an updated version of java but i couldn’t find the page where you could do that. Anyways, I haven’t heard Thursday’s show yet but I got all weekend.
I’m still up:yawn:My phone rang– chatted it up for awhile. I, too, would appreciate it, PJ, if there were more info on the torrents.
Goodnight, everybody:peace:
Is this the future of the spread of information? Delaying all the bad news?
Comment by Gaijinda — March 10, 2006 @ 8:17 pm
It’s not the future, it’s the usual Friday afternoon/evening dumping ground for stuff that the Bushies want to delay into the Saturday news so that no one hears about it.
Toledo kicked Akron’s ass tonight. I’m bummed. Maybe next year. They might still get invited to the NIT, though.
I can’t believe I’m up this late on a Friday. Would love to blog with you during the show, but I got up at 4:45 EST and I’m wiped. Later, sheeple!
Marc, if you’re reading the blog this late, thanks for the funny. We appreciate it and missed it when you were away.
OK, well, I wasn’t gonna mention this but:
