I didn’t watch the President’s press conference last night. I probably would have had I thought of it, but I didn’t. I may have inadvertently recorded it though, so maybe I’ll get to see it yet (and, really, there isn’t much you can’t find on the Internet these days anyway). But I did catch a lot of feigned outrage from Republicans like l’il Lindsey Graham (who came out of his closet and saw his shadow, meaning six more weeks of whining). Funny they don’t mind throwing buckets of money at banks, but the thought of spending money on putting people to work makes them apoplectic. Neither stimulus bill does enough, IMHO, but the Senate version sucks more than the House one.
I seriously don’t care if A-Rod took a “banned substance” that he doesn’t really remember what it was but he’s really, really sorry about. Although, I did just watch a CSI episode where some ultimate fighter dude had ‘roid rage and ripped some guy’s arm off, and then ripped his own biceps muscle out using a piece of broken mirror. Pretty icky. So, Rodriguez probably shouldn’t do that.
Speaking of drugs I don’t care if athletes do, I saw something about why dope was made illegal. Turns out, in the twenties, they wanted cheap labor in the South and Southwest, and – as we all know – cheap labor = Mexicans. So, there were lots of Mexicans coming in to do our crap work. Being poor, they weren’t exactly out there drinking top-shelf booze, and instead were smoking that silly little weed that grew pretty much everywhere.
Then came the Depression, and those dirty Mexicans were taking “our” jobs, so there was an effort to vilify them (some things really don’t ever change, do they?) by making dope illegal and painting it as a horrible narcotic (which it isn’t) that made everybody instantly insane and/or criminal when they smoked it. The big push to make it illegal came from powerful politicians from the South and Southwest.
So, now we have this ridiculous, hugely expensive, and never-ending “war on drugs” (hey, Republicans, want an idea on how to cut spending?) that makes regular people criminals, and makes murderous criminals rich. All over a plant that God put on this planet that grows everywhere outside the polar ice caps.
I guess they think they know more than God. Blasphemous and shameful, indeed.

NIT PICKING AHEAD
:turkey:GOOD MORNING
:bong:
Mornin’ Wanwenxia, nice to see you so early.
PJ, the daily thread titles are great. I love them.
I did see O’s press conference. His first 2 answers were 7 minutes long, or there abouts. He can think and talk and he never once said “I made tough decisions” or “It’s hard work.” The A student has replaced the frat boy and for that alone I am grateful.
The Rethugs are falling all over themselves as their biases get them in trouble. Steele’s “government creates work NOT jobs” and their objection to capping executive pay after insisting that the pay of auto workers be cut are so jarring that I suspect even some old righties are beginning to wonder. The poll numbers for Senate Republicans and the Republican party ain’t very good. But, in their usual denial of reality, they think they’re making progress. I believe that having Brush Lintball as their leader will eventually lead to that old cliff and they will jump off. At least I hope so.
Gotta work.
:bong: Here, here, PJ :bong: Thanks for the icon, it’s the only way I can partake these days. 🙁
There was an “American Experience” on last night here about the Kennedy assassination. I saw some of it and then fell asleep. It is now playing again on my one of my local PBS digital channels (I love my DTV!) and I have the sound off but I see that there was a lot I missed.
What I did see was a lot of young faces of people who continued on in my life, a young Dan Rather for one and a number of the correspondents. It is always like picking a scab but I cannot resist it. It was such a huge wound in my young life that will never heal.
The thing that was most interesting to me was the young Arlen Specter :omg: recreating the Seinfeld ‘Magic Loogie’ episode.
That ep featured former Met Keith Hernandez whose juice status is unknown although he is known for beard colour enhancements and participating in some of the worst TV commercials ever made. REJECTED!
I do have some begrudging respect for Alex Rodriguez for copping to the irrefutable allegations against him while so many in his position in sports and politics and finance continue to lie and deny and throw their weight$ around hoping the rest of us will just give up and they will get away with it.
NRDC says that Obama has put a temporary halt to the shooting of wolves in Yellowstone, awaiting a review of the Bushco rule which allowed the slaughter.
:pup: (Not a wolf but the best I could do.)
Sorry to make you repeatthis, but, how does one embed a video? Can it be from any site?
This is good. :bong:

Kp, Bloggie Daddy probably knows better but I find that you need to find the embed code for the video and copy and paste it into a post. It never takes the 1st time for me and I have to edit the post and repaste the embed info and then it usually shows up the 2nd time..
Thanks Vern!
:bf: :turkey:
pj Thank you for unpicking my nit
 :rofl2: :yippee:
kp and vern thank you for the SNL
Holy CRAP! I’ve hit the bong twice today! :gate:
