Not much to say this morning. They’re putting machine guns on the Coast Guard boats in the Great Lakes, I guess to keep the Canadian Navy at bay. I guess I’ll refrain from any Thousand Islands boat tours this summer. Pew has Bush down to 33%. I hope the Democrats don’t do something crazy like stand up for what’s right. Nah, that could ruin their chances to make sure Russ Fengold doesn’t get the ’08 nomination. He’s just not “electable” enough.
Frist!
where ARE you Sean? (I mean, on blog and in the US) Oh…you left the building ages ago.

Hello hello :eek::omg:
What happened with Maron last night ??
I see dictatordorp is still talking like he had a military that is capable of more than duck and cover. When the end comes maybe the conquering power will be benevolent.
and I missed Molly Ivins yesterday so maybe you did too.
Hey, FK.
I thought about you and Asta during “the overnight” as I’ve taken to calling it. I didn’t see your post about his trip to the vet until pretty late–I had only scanned the blog yesterday, looking for words like Otis and CK. I felt bad not commenting about it in real time, especially since you’ve been so supportive of our situation here. I sincerely hope he is doing better and will be back in your arms soon. It’s always so scary to have our little critters away from us.
thanks, ck. just wish they had a defintive cause. but you know how that goes.
how’d you make out last night at Camp Otis?
Cruella is in it to win it!

When the politicians complain that TV turns the proceedings into a circus, it should be made clear that the circus was already there, and that TV has merely demonstrated that not all the performers are well trained. – Edward R. Murrow
From LJ on Rileys blog
Yeah, FK, that sucks. Maybe they’ll get to the root of it?
Camp Otis was good last night, although I got less sleep than the previous night. A little after midnight, Otis was meowing (none of these meows are in his usual voice, so it’s hard to know what he’s trying to tell me), and wandering a little. He wound up on the floor beneath my desk, and though I offered him food (what else would a Jewish mother do when her baby is crying?), he wasn’t buying.
So I went back to the air mattress and started calling to him–and, to my surprise, he actually came to me and assumed his rightful place in the crook of my arm, where we snoogled together for about 4 hours. I woke up to pee and tried to get him to eat; I was only a little successful. (His pop just finished trying to feed him some more–gotta go put the e-collar back on, so I’ll have to finish this thought later.)
I heard you on the show again, Sean! Way to go!

I saw this movie from the 1960’s called the King of Hearts it was about a town in France during WWI that was populated by the residents of the local loony farm. It would have been made a good parody on Washington DC today.

great quote, btw
ck, if otis is getting enough from the feeding tube, doesn’t that prevent his eating the real stuff? how do you find that balance? if i give a calf a bottle, he’s less likely to eat from mom. have to find the balance of not starving the little one while encouraging the natural. hmmmmm
Add some razor wire and 24/7 video and it would be a fairly safe job for our national guard, all for there and our own safety:!::!: Hey NSA this is legally a joke:fire::bong:
U.S. security strategy singles out Iran An updated version of the Bush administration’s national security strategy, the first since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, includes a vigorous defense of striking pre-emptively against countries seen to threaten the United States.
I kinda woke up early this morning. Don’t know why.
Well, we actually were hoping to avoid using the feeding tube altogether, but I was wondering the same thing. When he’d eaten only about 40% of his requirement yesterday, we resorted to the tube. It wasn’t that difficult, but I don’t think I could do it without hubby around . . . so we agreed to do it when he’s home (essentially 8am/8pm) and try to get Otis to eat in between. But after you’ve pumped in 68 ml of liquid food and 5 ml of water to flush the tube, who can eat?
We’ll see what happens; I’ll call the hospital a little later this morning and give them an update.
trav: this sounds familiar (from your link)
I’m glad you’re doing something about that New Jersey district, Brilliant, [I grew up in Elmwood Park, which is on the border, and went to school in Fairlawn] – These Marshall Petain Democrats have got to get a little afraid of what we’re going to do for a change.
I really wish someone would mount a Lamont-style challenge to our own problem here in Westchester, Nita Lowey, who gives more value back to AIPAC and the securities industry than any of the other politicians that they own. I can’t understand why this Blue district of lower Westchester routinely returns this neocon warmonger back to office with 70-80% pluralities. Its sad, but older affluent voters don’t care what kind of country they’re leaving behind, or what debt they’re leaving their children with, as long as they get their benefits and a discount on their drugs, and that’s precisely what Lovely Nita concentrates on. I’m not knocking older people [i’m getting there myself] but there’s a lot of selfishness and hypocrisy amongst a large segment of so-called liberals of a certain age. Anybody out there know of a challenge to Lowey?
Good Morning. Okay, what needs saving today? I don’t think I have enough on my plate.:jerk:

Sean,
I only caught part of the show, but was that you talking to Maron?
Good for Jessica Simpson.
They just wanted to use her for publicity.

Wow isi I’m floored. I would have pegged Simpson for a diehard Rethug.
Gee, I have to admit, I’m impressed.

Hey did anyone save the pre show?…was it on the air? Repkay came in at the last few mins of what was an early section of show just before 10…this is gonna drive me crazy!!
At least I can edit the thing now in around 2 mins flat..before coffee or anything!
PJ, they want me to buy some premium version of wavepad…do I need that? It seems ot me like I dont. Do you have the basic or the premium?
Hey, I sprung for the “master’s” edition, but the only reason was because I wanted to able to use bookmarks. I find that the fastest way to edit the commercials. Something odd happened to me this morning, though. At the end of the show, after they go into their last commercial break, when I try to get to the end of the break, it goes into the endof the clippers game. But when I just play throught he comemericals, it goes into the final show segment. I have no clue what the deal is. I have the whole show. How far in does yours start?
and i thought she was a bimbo.
Its good she is fighting for a charity, but one that involves plastic surgery? I know it helps out and does make a difference, but it makes me wonder . . . like why couldn’t she choose a charity that didnt have to do with percieved beauty?
Paul- From what I understand of operation smile, they go to countries where kids are totally excommunicated for having things like a cleft palate. These kids are sometimes thought to have the mark of the devil or whatever…and many cant eat. They dont do cosmetic stuff…they do extreme cleft right up the nose and across the back of the mouth.
I thing its great if she throws herself into something real…Im all for that.I wish she would also do Drs without borders.
Woohoo! This’ll fix everything.
Happy anniversary, Iraq. From your Uncle Sam to you.

PJ, going into the show (a few mins before 1AM our time) it beings on marc talking and then he takes a local caller who says something like “wow, what a show…youre talking about your wife in a clippers jersey and sex and….”…whatever…I think it was the beginning of the talk about painters. (unbelievable what these guys talk about , huh?…makes me feel so stupid…or olf…. because I cant remember much of art history and I grew up in a town of museums!…but then Marc hasnt had children yet to rob him of his brain cells.)
Then he says “OK lets start the show proper”…and its 10PM their time and they go into the theme.
Did you get that?
I figured that the snippers ended early so they just turned his mics on locally…and then for the national audience, XM, or whatever theyre working on they made an official beginnning…but the caller made it sound like the pre show was really great!
anyway, I seem to have the whole thing …I scanned through and cut out the commercials real quick, and I got to the very end…didnt hear any snippers or snipper talk at all….besides Marc naked in his jersey trying to make the fans feel at home so theyll stay around!
http://www.operationsmile.org 😀
I watched my tape of the Sopranos last night…That is one of the best episodes every I think…good to know that the long break was put to some sorta good use!
What a freakin great show!!!
Farmer, any word on Asta? CK, so glad that Otis is doing better….now youre going to have to deal with the cranky/restless part!
Will the vet let you use the tube to supplement only at night after youve spent the day trying to feed him? That way you will only be putting into him what he doesnt take in during the day. Also, will the vet give you the neutracal and maybe the hills a/d, so that you can hopefully get enough calories into him by mouth that the tube will be unnecessary?…seems like that tube might depress him….and depression is a big deal now. Thats why they send them home so quickly. Its all about mood.
Sounds like youre doing a great job, really….I know its tiring but this part is gonna pass really quickly.
My Sandy was crying so bad in her crate last night that I had to go and get her at 1AM and bring her to my bed…then she proceeded to fight with who was there…dont ask….
finally I held her down till she decided to go to sleep. YOu wonder why I keep her in a crate at night; she is very nasty and huffy with other dogs…would be really happy to be the only one!
No matter what the charity, I think that the fact that Jessica said, “it’s non-partisan, and I want to keep it that way” is great. I seem to recall somethgin about her eyes being opened when she went to Iraq to entertain the troops, and saw at least a little bit of what things are really like over there.
FK, Mr stayed in the compund, right? They must have known something was up….This is SO CRAZY!!! Why are we bombing?
Is this to stop the “civil war” and bodies turning up all over? Isnt this going to make things worse?
Yeah, because I think that Little Jess was a BUsh gal before that…wasnt she?
Yeah, I have the whole show. It’s just that I can’t edit out the last commercial break. When I try to use wavepad to edit, I get the clippers dude (even though I already cut out that part and saved the show). But when I use wavepad to just listen, I get the end of the show after the break. Very strange, but not worth trying to figure out, I guess.
Melina – look in your Gmail in a few minutes for the first 17 minutes or so. I took it to the end of Michael the caller.
Melina, thanks for schooling me in what the charities about.
The torrent for the 3-15-06 show is now up at

Excellent clip on C&L from Boston Legal. If only the Dems could stand up like this for real. Instead we are condemned to watch it as fiction on television. This is a must watch.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/03/15.html#a7532
Andy, thank you for that.
Just hearing someone utter those sentiments, even if it is an actor, is very satisfying.
WARNING: I think my feeling feisty (or as PJ so gently put it, cranky) has been elevated to nasty. (Or downgraded, depending on which end of it you’re on.)
Did anyone else get the e-mail from MoveOn announcing their antiwar concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC?
It’s on Tuesday, March 20th. (I’ll let you ponder that for a second–cue Jeopardy! music.)
Give up?
Tuesday’s the 21st. (The concert, once you are able to link to it–which you can’t even do directly from their e-mail–apparently is on Monday the 20th.)
The e-mail gives the wrong date three fucking times.
What a bunch of fucking numbnuts. Who sends out a press release without having it proofread? No wonder our side is losing . . .
:rant1:
Yea isi, I think that clip goes into the “Why I Hate Bush” folder on my desktop.
“I” word!:omg:
:jason:
Okay, so I really, truly haven’t been keeping up with today’s blog. (There’s that manuscript waiting to be edited, and since I feel a little more confident in my ability to care for Otis at home, I’m finally able to get some work done.)
But I’m feeling happy and relieved (and I saw Melina’s post) and decided to take a break.
First off, the A/D. I haven’t tried it b/c they had told me Otis turned up his nose at it when they tried to give it to him at the vet. We’ve been adding DM to his offerings (which is how we manage his diabetes usually). But he’s not so hungry, even with the appetite stimulants.
Our plan (formulated last night) was exactly what you suggested, Melina. Try t/o the day to get him to eat and go to the tube at night. (I took his collar off so he could give himself a bath and I’m giving myself whiplash turning around to check him every 20 seconds, so forgive me if this comes out disjointed.)
I spoke with the vet at the hospital, and she said to always offer food first. Let him sit with it for a while before resorting to the feeding tube. So, at least we’re on the right path.
But I was extremely worried because Otis hadn’t used his box since a couple hours after we brought him home. I was terrified I’d have to race back to the hospital with him if it was an issue. (My question, when I first placed the call to the vet, would have been not whether but WHEN I should start worrying.) The terror was made worse by visions of having to bring him back to the vet tomorrow during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. (I really know how to torture myself.)
I was on the phone with hubby, pondering if I should just place him (Otis!) in his box. Hubby said it couldn’t hurt, so I tried it. Otis first growled and climbed out. Then he climbed back in and peed forever! Two fucking days’ worth! (Silly boy–who does such a thing?) Poor little guy. I think he feels a lot better now, and I’m hoping maybe he’ll eat a little more now that he’s, um, less full.
Then he trotted into the office meowing. I picked him up (also easier now that he wasn’t so grumpy) and I actually felt him purring!!!:love::love:
I can’t even tell you how much better I feel!
Yaaaay!
Sounds like good news CK. 😀
CK – I’m so glad Otis seems on the right track! And him holding it in – Calvin does that, then it sounds like the Niagra Falls when he goes.
It’s amazing how my mood is dependent on how he is before I leave for work. He has megacolon, so I am on poop patrol every day.
Do you think that maybe Otis turned his nose up at A/D while at the vets office because he was still not up to par? I’ve just never heard of a cat that didn’t suck it down. It really smells good.
Anyway, if he is eating and grooming then he is on the road to recovery.
I’m so glad to hear it!
linda
I’ve been saying it….I’ve been saying it! :rant1:
http://smirkingchimp.com/article.php?sid=25280&mode=nested&order=0
Just listening to Franken…
and he said that SAINT LOUIS station, along with being a new affiliate for AAR…they ALSO are going to be airing THE MARC MARON SHOW nightly starting sometime in april! YAY FOR MARC-Y MARC!
Does the ST. Louis station have a live stream? I’d hate to miss Marc because KTLK had the Clippers postgame show on.
Feingold had a press conference today. If anyvbody pays attention, it ought to set them straight.
Thanks again, everyone, for all your support. I just did a quick check on Nutrical (Google told me how to spell it). I’m pretty sure the reason they didn’t recommend it is that it contains corn syrup, malt, and molasses, as I suspected (although I suspected ONE of the three, not all three). Maybe if he wasn’t eating at all, and if they couldn’t insert a tube or something, then maybe that would override any concerns about his diabetes. But, although he is a “transient diabetic,” these ingredients are best avoided.
As to the A/D, I have another call in to the vet, so I’ll ask then.
But, I did get him to eat about 2/3 of a slice of ham while I was making my lunch. Probably not the greatest thing long-term, but hubby’s gonna pick up some turkey breast tonight and we’ll try that.
Okay, back to the War of 1812!
Any word on Asta yet?
BATB, shame on me for missing this news about St. Louis (since I live right here in the river city). Thanks to you for letting us know. Here’s some information about the radio station. What a motley crew of talkers!!
http://www.stltoday.com
I wonder if Hartman has his chair fumigated each day while Big Eddy is at KPOJ ??
Neil Boortz on just before Franken .. Ewwwww… hope you don’t turn the radio on early for Franken
good info isi….except they left off MARC’s info!:fire::fire::fire:
Okay . . . I am clearly sleep-deprived. If they offered Otis A/D at the hospital, why did I think I needed “permission” to give it to him at home?!?:doh::doh:
Elwood’s vet (who is local), agreed to let us buy some A/D for Otis. (She’s actually the one who first diagnosed Otis’s torn ACL, although we opted to see the chiropractic surgeon at my old vet, in NYC.)
Back to 1812.
Neal Boortz — a libertarian who favors the Iraq War? Is this a misprint, or is he demented? Oh, I get it: he’s so libertarian and anti-government that he favors spending billions to destroy Iraq’s government. Rough sort of logic there.
BATB, I just turned on the radio to hear Al (he’s on CT 12-3) and the ads on the station gave the line up as ending at midnight. So, sounds like they have the spot available for Marc. I guess I need to contact them, don’t I? 😀
kev, what do you think the average repub thinks of her? Foridians kinda scare me, you never know what the hell they’re up to.

IMHO, the Repigs in north and SW FL will hold their noses and vote for Harris. The Dems in SE FL will be solid for Nelson.
The I-4 corridor in the middle of the state is usually what tips FL elections these days. The moderates will stick with Nelson, all other things being equal. He should be in good shape financially, but if need be he can call in the big guns for help. Hillary has already visited a couple of times. Nelson currently has a lead of about 20 points
Personally, if I were Nelson’s strategist, I would insinuate that Harris is trying to buy a Senate seat evey chance I got. Of course, these days ALL Senate seats are pretty much purchased, but most not as blatantly as in this case.
Mark my words, I am SO there if the Harris/Hannity tour comes to my side of the bay. This is one election she won’t be able to rig.
Stephanie Miller had a good line today about Harris spending $10 million of her family’s money: After the election, she’ll have the best boob job in the trailer park.
:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
Oooo…isi….maybe….Al said his show is regularly is going to be delayed 1hr there….so they are shuffling something around to fit in something…
dear citizenkahn, i just throw this out to you in case it might be helpful. when my cat was sick and i was worried because he wasn’t eating, i gave him liquid vitamins everyday. i would just shoot them down his throat along with some water, he also liked gravy. hope otis feels better
I can’t even find a website for the station!
Does it have a decent signal, at least, or is it one these AAR specials, with 5,000 Watts of power (if they remember to feed the hamster)?
It sounded good when I tuned in to listen to Al. I think they said 10,000 watts? The previous format was Sports and owned by Big League Broadcasting of Atlanta.
Hey, cool. Instead of a woman like Gale Norton as Secretary of the Interior, it looks like dubya is gonna appoint a man like Gale Norton, Dirk Kempthorne who
Deatils here. Basically, they decided to kill 75% of the wolves in one part of Idaho.
Helluva pick, Georgie.
Wow, whata day.
Asta B is home and well! HipHip Horray! He responded beautifully to meds. He’s on antibiotics and a special diet. He trembled in the car all the way home (long disance) but once he settled in, he found his tennis ball and was ready for a little fun. (If you were to cut his head open, tennis balls would fall out.) He tired out and is now sleeping in his favorite chair with ball under his chin. He needs a “spa day” so I’ll bathe him tomorrow. My regular vet was there and said they are quite sure it was from something he ate within the last five days. Time will ultimately tell us the truth. Thanks for caring guys!

happy to hear Otis is almost “fully functional” again!! now how is your muscle spasm, ck?

I gave blood and the evil woman was there (NOT helping me) and giving another gal a difficult time! I’m done with the blood thing and have reduce that risk factor.

melina, i have one of those prima donna dogs as well.

gotta read all the good links above. (after I get a glass of wine.)
Asta & Otis are home…now everyone else’s blog animals, LET’S KEEP IT THAT WAY!
:gate:
Farmerkat – it’s wonderful that Asta is home too!
And I second the motion that all our animals stay home!!!
So happy to hear about Asta! Yaaaay!
The spasm is okay–not awful (thank you, Aleve), but not quite gone. I’m seeing the masseuse on Tuesday (she was out of town this week), so hopefully that will make a difference. I don’t really have to be in Manhattan the next two weeks (except to take Otis to and fro), so if I don’t have to see the chiro, I won’t.
Hubby is on his way home with goodies for Otis. (Elwood’s vet suggested some other things Otis might prefer eating, and told me that at her hospital, they will often present animals with a “buffet.” Then they can choose from the spread.) I told Otis he was gonna have a smorgasbord tonight–I didn’t know he was so Continental!
Enjoy your glassa wine, FK. You deserve it!
(I don’t drink, but I’ll share in your toast to the pets of this blog!)
Kev, hope you’re writing letters to the Editor about that prostitute candidate Harris.

I’m expecting my local paper, the St. Petersburg Times (on O’Reilly’s blacklist, so you know it’s a good paper), should be editorializing about Ho Harris in the next few days. If so, I’ll sit back and wait for the Repig response, then write a letter dissecting said response. It’s more fun for me that way.
If for some reason the Times editorial board decides it has more important things to write about, then I can go proactive. They only print your letters once every 30 days, so I have to choose my battles.
This way, ideally I can take some other Repigs down along with Cruella.
:banana::banana::banana:
A caller on Stephanie Miller’s show today referred to Harris as a “Pageant Patty.” If you think about the phony smile, the fake confidence, the 3/4 turn to show off the goods, and the general sense of divaness, it adds up.
DOWN WITH PAGEANT PATTY!!!

From Senator John Kerry-
Today, America spends more than $500,000 per minute on foreign oil or $30 million per hour. We paid more than $42 billion for Persian Gulf imports alone in 2005. It is bad enough that these dollars will not help grow our domestic economy — it is even worse when you consider their impact on our national security. Congress should act to eliminate America’s oil imports from the Middle East by 2020.

Hi everyone—–
Ive just been reading and trying to unwind from a horrible and long day. Im gonna go and watch a movie with my kid or something…try to forget that I live in this country.
Im so glad that Asta is OK and that Otis is doing better!
My Angelina Violet is OK too…just has a yeasty ear…and we have to have her spayed and do some biopsys to see if she had real IBD or some other things hes worried about…myasthenia Gravis among them.
Im maybe not so well with my back continuing to bother me horribly and the radiologists going for further booby tests.
The chiropractor said maybe ‘Shingles’ today, which freaked me out and I have no rash so who knows?
Anyway…Im just tired and the news all day really freaked me out.
FK- Im so sure its political…I cant even fathom how throwing bombs around can ever stabilize things even if they take out some bad guys…it seems that on a very basic level, there is no way to even begin to put anything together if we keep taking the structure apart….even if it was in the middle of a field, it must be so distressing for the Iraqis…I just dont know how the regular people can function over there.
PJ- Thanks so much for the file(s)…I havent heard yet but really want to hear. I guess if they end early hes gonna just do whatever segment there is time for before the official start!
Also, I opened my laptop today to replace my keyboard and it was so great…full of animal hair of course and dusty. The I messed around and went down a couple more layers (man, I wanted to take the whole thing apart and maybe I should buy and old one on ebay to take apart and put together again!) Maybe I should try to build my own laptop somehow…that would be very fun!
Is March gonna be on Al’s show?
Nite everyone…enjoy the show…Ive got to get in bed.
Look on the back of your own’s version of “The Village Voice” and see how many lawyers are advertising for bankruptcy relief. (Ch. 7, too.) I will write more of my impressions, tomorrow.
Well, I imagine the lawyers have figured out a way to get around the law somehow. They have semantics on their side!
Ah, now I get what that whole “culture of life” crap was about: cheap labor.
Here’s how the Republicans are protecting us.
WOW! :omg: post 111
Just in case you didn’t think we were planning on a war with Iran…
PJ, don’t you mean Iran?:bong:
OK, maybe I’ve had a little too much:bong: I dunno:doh:
I’m just gonna crawl away now and act like nothin’ happened. Sorry I screwed-up up there:doh:
:omg:
