Looks like we got us a new war to watch on the teevee. Well, not really a new one, but President Obama’s got his first “major military operation” in the works in Afghanistan. This, of course, is a big moment for a president. Kind of the equivalent of a bar mitzvah or something. Makes you feel proud, in a Red, White and Blue Fourth of July kinda way, doesn’t it? And word just in is that one of our soldiers was captured. That aint good. But I’m sure Obama can expect oodles of support from our GOP friends, what with anything less than complete support and subservience to the Commander in Chief being tantamount to treason.
Speaking of pride-inducing developments, the ACLU says the Obama administration is using confessions elicited through torture to justify the continued detainment of Mohammed Jawad, who was something like 12 years old when he was first captured and thrown into US gulags in Bagram and Guantanamo.
More pride, but of the gay (or, rather, anti-gay) variety locally. You may have seen Lt. Dan Choi on Rachel Maddow. In case you missed the news Tuesday, a military board right here in my fair city recommended that Choi be the first person kicked out of the NY National Guard for tellin’ when nobody was askin’. As I understand the board’s decision, it appears that, because Choi weighs the same as a duck, he’s made of wood and therefore…. “Burn him! He’s a witch!”
I could have that wrong though, since I don’t understand all the nuances of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
The NYS Senate continues to meet and do no work. It’s somewhat difficult to tell this apart from business as usual, except for these sessions are a lot shorter. Unfortunately, the failure to pass any of the basic housekeeping, end of session type of legislation is a real hassle for local governments, who can’t sell bonds, collect sales tax, and don’t know what sort of state funding they can include in proposing next year’s budgets. But it’s all OK, ‘cuz Pedro “Erik” Espada is feeling mighty important these days, and that’s all that counts.
We have things pretty much straightened out at work, which is a good thing (we’ll see what further problems develop today, of course). No sleep for me, though. Between what has become rather excruciating neck (and now back) pain, and the fact that something’s wrong with one of the dogs, causing the other dog to freak out, I don’t think I got any sleep at all last night, though I may have accidentally drifted off once or twice.
All’s well, though. Matt Lauer is live at Neverland Ranch.
Three-day weekend! Yay!
And my Chairmen Of The Board compilation arrived today, so it’s beach music all weekend. Now if it would only stop raining…
Due to my hard work, dedication, and long hours this week (more than usual, that is), I get to take tomorrow off. I’m gonna try to sleep until Saturday.
Zapped!
It rained yesterday. It rained today. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Everything is wet and soggy. I’ve become oblivious to it. Whether it’s raining or the rain is taking a brief respite, I walk dogs, do laundry, etc.
I do believe someone should be building an ark.
A group of paleontologists went to the Creation Museum. (I think I posted the story a few days ago.) They said there was an exhibit of Noah’s ark and that he had 26 kinds of dinosaurs with him. For reasons the creationists can’t explain, all the dinosaurs died out soon after.
Hey there! I’m finally back online! :yippee: Cripes! it wasn’t that long ago that I didn’t have internet or teevee and now 2 weeks without it and I’m going nutz. But thank goodness I’ve missed the worst of the Michael Jackson hullaballoo.
The house is coming along. We will close on July 24th but I won’t get to move in til all the repairs are done. 😕 But I’ll be getting a new kitchen out of the deal. :yippee: And all the walls inside patched and painted and the eves painted and some other little stuff. But MAN! Buying a house is a friggin’ nightmare! And I’m getting an FHA loan so there are even more hoops to jump through. That’s why the eves have to get painted, because FHA doesn’t like peeling paint. :smack:
So, the farm I work at was on the teevee the other morning. Check it out. I planted and picked everything you see in the segment. Except the eggs, I don’t pick the eggs.
KP, I’m glad you’re back. Buying a house is quite an experience, particularly if you’ve not done it before. Wait ’til you get to the closing where you will spend an hour signing papers, few of which will actually make sense to you.
In the end, though, it’s rather comforting to have a house that’s yours, with which you can do what you want and isn’t subject to rising rents.
Housewarming party at Krista’s!
:40:
Ding dong, the witch is dead.

Andrea Mitchell is reporting that her “source” for this story is claiming that Palin is sick of politics and wants to leave the spotlight to raise her family. I’m not buying it.
More like she goes away for a few months to let the stink die down, then begins making appearances to raise money for 2012. Now she will be free to do whatever she wants without the burden of being tied down to Juneau, not that she spent that much time there anyway.
I’m definitely going to finish reading that Vanity Fair article now! 🙂
I would advise Caribou Barbie that if she is actually going to run in three years, she needs to develop a thicker skin in the meantime. Because now, in addition to all of the other criticisms, she has officially become a QUITTER.
:rofl2:
Jed Lewison at Daily Kos nailed it:
Unless she’s a total moron, there’s no way she’s running for president. Then again, maybe she is a total moron.
She’s got my vote. As a total moron, I mean. Not for president. Blecch.
:barf:
I didn’t remember this, impressionable as I was.
Yes, it will be a house warming party here in HELL! Spose to be 110 degrees on Monday. Why the hell can’t it be 110 over the weekend when I can hide in the house all day?? Man! I get so tired of sweating! It sucks not having a pool anymore. My friend has a horse trough to soak in here at the Art Farm but it’s just not the same. My back yard at the last place was so private I could swim nude. I miss my pool. 🙁
I remember How Word Co Sell. Half-time highlights, about 15 seconds of slowed-down footage stretched into a dramatic reading, signifying something.
I miss your pool too! :hubba:
You weren’t in one of the helicopters going to the hospital were you, Andy?
That’s how I learned about John’s assassination, Howard Cosell and MNF. At that time it seemed like it got a lot of coverage. Guess not.
Kp, there may still be a cement pond in your future.
It’s 48 degrees here in Vail. 😀 Don’t you LOVE vacations!
Interesting news about the Palin. Since she’s a news whore, I don’t believe for a minute she’s tired.
Congratulations on the house, KP!
Hope PJ is getting some rest.
Just watched Palin’s speech. Does she make sense to anyone? If she doesn’t want business as usual, shouldn’t she finish her term and try to make a difference as the head of her state? She almost makes it sound like she wants to be head of the RNC. Except there is much hatred for her by her own party. Maybe Fux News made her an offer she couldn’t refuse. Weird deal.
I watched what I could find and decided if I wanted to believe or understand her or was just stupid, ignorant or all hopped up on goofballs or meth, I might be able to make sense out of it. Look at what people are buying out there and if one or two bites register, the entire speech in context is irrelevant.
