OK, so what scandal is about to emerge about Sarah Palin? My bet is it turns out she has a mistress in Argentina. It seems pretty clear something happened, and I don’t see how you could quit before the end of your first term as governor of what amounts to a medium-sized city (population-wise) – its Russian surveillance role aside – and then run for President. So, the GOP search for a bright shiny new penny continues. It looks like they’re gonna have to settle for the Mormon at this point, although Mike Huckleberry Hound is looking to be the sharpest tool in the Republican shed these days.
Silly Republicans. They ought to just invite Obama to join the GOP. He shares most of their corporate values, with only a few minor differences. He certainly seems to be as secretive as the previous administration at this point, and if he isn’t sufficiently supportive of torture, he’s at least up for permanent imprisonment without benefit of trial. Hell, if Joe Lieberman, Diane Feinstein, et al, can call themselves Democrats, Obama can certainly call himself a Republican. He doesn’t seem to want to call other countries evil and insinuate himself into their politics (he apparently isn’t shy when it comes to NY’s US Senate seat, however), though, which is apparently a deal-breaker.
Did you know that July is Cankle Awareness Month? Me neither. Apparently it’s a pandemic.
The schedule for Marc Maron’s “Scorching the Earth” at the Montreal Comedy Festival is finally available. He’s doing a bunch of shows between the 16th and the 25th. Montreal is only about 4 hours from me, and the tickets are only $18.80 (Canadian) each, so I was definitely thinking of attending. Unfortunately, I’m no longer skinny, and, listening to Marc this past week on BRL, it seems pretty clear he’d be thoroughly disgusted with the sight of me. I guess I’ll just sit in shame in my basement, and try to avoid forcing people to look at me.
It’s cheaper that way.
It’s those desk jobs PJ. I’ve lost at least 40 #’s since working at Whole Foods.
Yep. It was a lot better when I worked for a living.
My back yard at the last place was so private I could swim nude. I miss my pool.

“We have a pond AND a pool. The pond would be good for you.”
— Chevy Chase to Bill Murray in Caddyshack
Actually, we have two ponds. One of them is just outside my door.

My latest theory on Palin is that she heard that joke that Marc read on Wednesday’s BRL (I think it was Wednesday) and it pushed her over the edge.
It should also be noted that if you’re going to do a Friday afternoon news dump, a holiday weekend is the best time to do it, but you have to do it LATE ENOUGH IN THE AFTERNOON so that your announcement doesn’t make it onto the East Coast evening news. Palin held her little backyard shindig at 4 PM Eastern, which means it wasn’t even afternoon in Alaska yet.
Someone who can’t even pull off a decent news dump is obviously unqualified to be president. For all I despised about Bush, at least he could get this shit right.
:rofl2:
cool Andy!
Excellent point, Kev.

Behind the WHO Farm Project
Not that I totally disagree with you about Obama, PJ, but I do think he works on more of a long-term time line that we are used to witnessing. For example, he is trying to close Gitmo and is having to maneuver around funding and congressional stalwarts. I read his signing statement, and I didn’t disagree with it. It discussed his ability as the Executive Branch to make foreign policy decisions. As well, I oppose the indefinite detention of these prisoners, but I HAVE to believe that he has a plan for these folks. If not, well then, I’m just all wrong about the man. Most countries will not take the prisoners back and evidence is tainted and unusable in court for prosecutions. It was a total f*ck up by Bush and I think Obama has a real problem figuring out how to unravel it. So, I am giving Obama time to get out of the mud. My expectations of Obama were never on the level of say, Dennis Kucinich. However, I am willing to be patient and see what transforms.
Happy Fourth of July everyone!
I’m coming to the end of a too short vacation ( if by ” vacation” you can mean seeing relatives) so I’m not doing much thinking but I’m in agreement with OKat’s analysis of ‘Bama.
Gail collins’ take on Palin:
Truly, Sarah Palin has come a long way. When she ran for vice president, she frequently became disjointed and garbled when she departed from her prepared remarks. Now the prepared remarks are incoherent, too.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/04/opinion/04collins.html
I listened to some of Palin’s speech. She sounded angry and unhinged. She usually sounds either angry or unhinged.
Hubby thinks she’s tired of the flak, liked the money she got to play with as a VP candidate and is planning to earn some as a speaker. I think she’s helping to make the GOP look like the party of nuts, which IMHO is what they are.
Happy Forth. I doubt I will go watch fireworks. It’s just too fuckin’ hot. 109 today. :hot: It’s always friggin hot on the forth of July. I can remember many an Independence day bored to tears hiding from the heat. I remember one year with my boyfriend at the time and his room mate at their house. We watched Spartacus on the teevee and cut out word bubbles that said “No, I’m Spartacus!” and taped them to every picture or knick knack that had a face. Now that’s boredom.
