Thursdays are like my Saturdays, which is nice (except the dog will be climbing the walls, since I was too tired to take him anywhere yesterday). Don’t forget, Mr. Farmerkat will be on the Marc Maron Show tonight (and it’ll be an extra-long, gotta love those Clippers show, probably starting at around 8:30 PST). No doubt he’ll say that the only way he’s been able to get through the days over there is by reading the Morning Seditionists blog.

So how long was the Maron show last night ??
Good morning, Seditionisti. Or are we all Maronisti now?
After the top of the hour Wayne Gilman came on but during the first hour it must have been the support crew improvising.
Good morning Becky
Howdy, Fred. So did something happen to Felipe, the guy filling in for Mark? Maybe he’s sick or something?
The board op guys don’t sound nearly as happy or lively as they did when they worked with Maron….
Wayne Gilman did’nt like Marc’s joke on short order news said was going to call Marc!!
The board op guys
There just doing there best to just stay awake:!::!::!::fire:
LJin, do you remember the joke on short order news?
Short order news was right at the very end but I can’t recall what it was?
BTW, I love Wayne Gillman
I don’t remember short order news I fell asleep
I remember Jim’s introduction for Short Order News,
Stay tuned for “3 minutes of crap” 😀
Mornin’, all. I forgot to say I was here.
I when back and replayed he did laugh under his breath!!I edited my last I was over in side of the room and could just hear the the words!
Could somebody tell me what the answer to the Ask Dr Maddow question was? It was about the No-Fly List. My super came over just as she was giving the answer. I’ll have to check back in later. Thanks!
trying to play catch-up or ketchup (organic, without high fructose corn syrup)
Morning!
YES! light up the corners of the truck, put the plant in a corner…
wow – i just hit something on the computer and the screen did something wild – ok, it’s all back to “normal.”
phoener, think she said you can’t really check ahead (my screen was flipping out so just heard the tail end)
isi -> shouldn’t you put a pregnant pause in there when you say, I’m ….wayne…..gilman:?:
i saw you said they pronounced mr FK’s name wrong; we’ll have to get them to say it right because he won’t correct them (he says he doesn’t like to correct the hosts) “You BET URE life” is how. maybe i should post it over there..
the joke was about NYC putting up cameras and police saying if they had back then Abner Louima would have been seen shoveing a broom stick up his own ass this just from memory!!Wayne said he covered that and it was no joke!!
I really loved last night’s segment, when you knew you were a liberal
I agree with this blogger from last night,
Good morning. Don’t tell me the ending, I haven’t heard the show yet.
Thanks LJin, now I remember that I didn’t catch the whole thing. I only remember abner louima…ass..broomstick…laughter. 😯
when you knew you were a liberal
that was a good one:!:
FK, he pronounced it with a long o like boat. But he did say “is that how you pronounce it?” Surely, they will know by airtime.
speaking of no fly zones, a dear friend was “detained” in Miami as he was on the list. He’s a foreigner. Detained 8 hours. Funny thing, he had testified for the 9-11 commission and is highly respected in the counter terrorism field. The idiots in Miami made him make long statement and take an oath and the guard who did it could hardly speak english. When our friend described the whole experience it was horrendous. The guards intimidated women in the holding area. He had a very high official’s business card in his pocket and they refused to call it to verify who he was.
Epilogue: when he was later talking to this very high official, the official told our friend that if he ever needed anything, to let him know. Our friend said, well, as a matter of fact….so ended the matter.
my teenager is supposed to take the SAT April 1 :omg:
I’m wondering if he should wait
I’m thinkin’ wait. But then again, I had strep when I took it (I dunno if synchronous is the right word) and because I was somewhat preoccupied I was less nervous. (I actually did very, very well. I remember one kid in my high school, who was bright and extremely competitive, had to choke back tears when he learned how much higher my score was than his.)
(That is to say, I think I scored much higher than I otherwise would have because I was sick and just wanted to get through the test.)
my son isn’t worried about the test which worries be but after reading about you, ck, maybe i shouldn’t worry :ear:
he’s a great test taker. i’m better at essay tests. think i’ll call the college board today and talk with them about it.
Ah, the SAT’s. Now there was a great way to spend a Saturday. Are you still not allowed to bring your abacus in?
:omg:
Yawn! Super Fucking Yawn!:omg:
Speaking of SAT 😯

I liked Felipe’s substitution for Riley. (I like Riley’s show. Much better than those apologists at Morning Edition.)
you can use a calculator for the math subject test, but i think only number 2 pencils can be used for the reasoning test (which is the one he’s taking).
speaking of #2’s; he’s taking state comprehensive tests four mornings this week. Students have to pass it in order to graduate high school. He said the first question yesterday was, the pointed shape at the bottom of a #2 pencil is more closely the shape of a. a cone b. a square c. a circle d. a straight line.
Hi everybody!
Seanie…who is probably asleep…I like that MySpace page from last night…the girl. Shes just so young…and thats the problem with MySpace! Its for kids, but tends to attract too young kids. We’ve been having alot of trouble with it and the younger kids, who can just lie about their age and post anything. They dont realize that its a huge forum, and they put their addresses and phone numbers. Will’s school sent parents instructions for taking them down. Some of these poor kids had no clue that there are alot of predators out there, and not just their friends.
I dont like that it encourages kids to have friends based on a picture and a little text. I dont know if it isnt a little too much of the isolationist thing. I guess they cant go out and hang around the neighborhood like we old folks did…but I sorta liked getting in trouble in person as opposed to passively.
Anyway, I like her Sean…you should ask her out! As long as shes not too druggie or alchie, I approve!
Wayne Gillman…. I think he should just step back a bit. Hell, it was a joke! Louima was a horrendous thing, but it also brought out alot of corruption in the NYC police and that is a bright spot. If its still brought up in jokes, I say good. Should we all bow our heads and keep it in silence? Also, Louima won quite a bit of money and really publicized this thing….Im all for talking about it because they woulda covered it up. Is Wayne Gilman saying that it deserves more respect than anything else that happens (and horrible things happen all the time in the big city!) because he was black and the cops were white? Then we’re gonna have alot of stuff that we cant talk about.
Also I dont think that Marc was making fun of Louima as much as he was making fun of how well they try to cover things up around these parts….
Felipe was great he really kicked bush a new asshole!!
He’s more outspoken than Mark sometime I think I see Dannyshitforbrains :barf:fingerprints and it could just be me ❓
i quit!
Ha! It’s a trick question. The pointed shape is at the top of the pencil!
I thought that the week of katrina when Brendan and Pashman were substituting for Mark and Marc were great high points in the world of subs…and would much prefer to hear them every morning than Mark Riley or felipe.
There was something about that crew and I really think that it had alot to do with Marc and how he makes a family of the people around him. Thats why its so hard to imagine that DG wouldnt like him…. I guess he lacks a sense of humor about himself and in general.
Why ❓
Melina, I’ve gotta say you are awfully hard on the Brothas 😉
Ypu may all ready know about these sites for SATs and there book put out by collegeboard? If so just ignore
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/prep_one/prep_one.html
http://www.number2.com/exams/sat/companion/index.cfm?s=0
I don’t think DG wants to make friends with the likes of Marc or the rest of the crew. I think he sat in his office and, on the rare occasions when he wasn’t listening to Imus or Limbaugh, tuned into Marc and said, “I don’t get it.”
“Sue Ellicott sounds like a tranny name.” :rofl2:
Sorry, just listening to last night’s show.
I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902–1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested.
Was Sue Ellicott on last night’s show? Marc really trashed her in his LOTD commentary.
O’Reilly is “Falafel guy” because of sex-scandal
Rush is “OxyContin guy” because of drug-scandal
Hannity is…?
Which brings me to my point: we should spend some more time eroding Hannity’s credibility.
He’s gotta have something…
:Vendetta:
No, Jane Bussmann was on, and Marc said the last time he sat across from a British woman, things didn’t go well.
Marc interviewed Jane Bussmann and they discussed Sue. They have similar accents. BTW the website for Jane is http://www.filthypictures.org not .com 😀
Melina i think your oh so right when around great minds its catching and they were great think about it was there first time and they went for it Mark is the same every day I like him but i don’t think hes into changing 25years+!!just my take:!::!::!::!::doh::fire::fire::fire:
Being (mostly) an Irishman, I would say that Hannity is a big dumb Mick.
Yeah, filthypictures.com is, um, filthy pictures.
Kember freed. Good news for a change.
aw…isi…I grew up with the brothas and was the minority in my particular neighborhood…but not only that, I was raised in a totally bohemian enviornment with no regard to color but with the acute awareness of how much easier things were for me because I didnt have dark skin. I grew up with alot of friends of all colors and quite a few times had to run from scary huge gangs of Italian kids trying to kill us for being black boys with white girls…once they even shot at us. It was part mafia brooklyn a la Sopranos, and part Puerto Rican (we called them Ricans) and part black.
Will’s best friend here in this totally white world is black and Im downtown and involved with his family alot in the project world…and I acutely feel that there are not many black or color people around here and that they are kept in a certain place (as in when Shays came to talk he was in a place that people I know downtown without cars couldnt even begin to get to…a sea of white faces…and who he hopes will vote for him,) and my sister lives in a community with NO black people at all. They actually bus in a couple from Bridgeport to try to make it look better in the school, but its just horrible….When I brough Ben (my son’s best friend) to a play at the middle school recently, his eyes just lit up and he was saying how much he loved it there in the huge school with their shiny new equipment, and how great Westport is…how he is gonna tell his MOm that they have to move there….damn…a kid like him would flouorish in a public school like that, but its just impossible unless I can find a scholarship or something for him…
Anyway, off the subject…
I am definitley on the side of the brothas in most respects BUT, I dont like this separation and feeling of…what is it?…like, awe and respect for whay is considered a PC culture of respecting things that separate one part of society from another…such as speaking inner city ebonics and dressing like a hoodlum and then feeling like you are being disrespected if someone treats you like a hoodlum…
The idea of all of the religious clergy getting together and going into the inner city here to try to stop the upsurge in gang violence, is noble, but its the separation that encourages all of this stuff…and probably allowing travel via bus or whatever between the rich and poor areas of town (they keep cutting bus service) and actually involving people in what is going on everywhere, rather than visiting them in their neighborhood, is the answer….Why is it that they have to stay down there and we can go anywhere in our SUV’s? Its a strange apartheid…and then we cant talk or joke or anything about this stuff…
Off the subject again….
But these are things that I think alot about and I dont think that Gilman is helping anything by trying to stop discourse because he views a topic as too hot to handle….
The genocidal barbarism of the Nazi forces has been well documented. What hitherto has been little known is the fate of fifteen million German civillians who found themselves at the mercy of Soviet armies and on the wrong side of new postwar borders. All over Eastern Europe, the inhabitants of communities that had been established for many centuries were either expelled or killed. Over two million Germans did not survive.
Many of these people had supported Hitler, and for the Czechs, Poles, Ukrainians, and surviving Jews, their fate must have seemed just. However, the great majority–East Prussian farmers, Silesian industrial workers, their wives and children–were guiltless. Their fate, sentenced purely by race, remains an appalling legacy of the period.
before i wrote i quit i had typed maybe two paragraphs and when i looked at the screen the box was empty!!!!!
ah i broke the blog!!!!!:spank:
No you didn’t.-
Melina, I’ll have to digest everything you wrote and respond later. Thanks for the response.
What You Don’t Know About the Deaths of Jim Morrison, Tupac Shakur, Michael Hutchence, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Phil Ochs, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh
Oh, yeah. My mother-in-law and her family had to take what they could carry, and flee from where they were at, in the face of the Russian advance. They lost everything, and it was for the second tme, because the family had lost everything in a similar manner after WWI. It’s one reason she and my father-in-law seem to not get why what Europeans did to the people who lived here in the US before they got here was so wrong, and why they have no sympathy for the land claims they have here.
Human history is full of one group of people doing horrible things to another group of people, and expelling or enslaving them. There are no groups without blood and horror in their past.
Of course, we could go ahead and stop any time now.
well someone broke it!
Oh boy, Senator MBNA is going to be the SU Law College’s commencement speaker.
Biden
So, Sean, what do you, sleep while you’re driving, or don’t you require sleep? Oh, that’s right, I never needed to sleep when I was your age, either.
I wish I could do what wireless devices do. They sleep for a few milliseconds and then wake up to see if there’s anything they need to deal with, and then go back to sleep again. It’s kind of what I do when I’m listening to somebody talk to me. I wake up to see if I need to throw out a “yeah” or an “uh-huh,” and then I go back to listening to the voices in my head.

Civil rights leaders ready to resume anti-racist boycott
By Beverly Hiestand
Cheektowaga, N.Y.
“We called for this boycott to raise awareness of the racism and racial profiling going on at this Galleria Mall,” the Rev. Darius Pridgen told the crowd at a Unity Rally here on April 28.
Pridgen and others recently formed the Coalition Against Racial Injustice to denounce a widespread pattern of racist profiling and police brutality in Cheektowaga, N.Y., a virtually all-white town adjacent to Buffalo.
The Walden Galleria Mall, the largest in Western New York, has been cited as one of the worst offenders by targeting Black shoppers for surveillance and harassment.
As a result, the coalition called for an April boycott of the Galleria Mall and held weekly pickets here. The coalition has made four demands: that officials send a clear message of non-toleration of racial profiling and discrimination; that they schedule public hearings on racial profiling and discrimination; that they add people of color to the all-white town police force; and that mall owners meet with coalition leaders.
Under the weight of the boycott, town officials met with coalition leaders on April 18.
Pridgen told those gathered at the April 28 rally that Pyramid Corporation, owners of the mall, agreed to meet with the coalition in Syracuse on May 3.
Pridgen vowed, “If we don’t hear what we need, we will continue to boycott until there is a change at the Galleria.”
The Rev. William Gillison, a coalition leader, told the rally that there is growing support for the boycott by people outside the African American community. He reported many meetings with representatives of white and Latino churches in which they asked how they could be of help.
The Stop Racist Profiling Committee of the International Action Center in Buffalo made two 20-foot banners announcing the Unity Rally. Together with other anti-racist supporters they hung them from overpasses above the downtown Buffalo expressway during morning rush hour.
And on March 31, a predominantly white group of some two dozen protesters marched through the Galleria Mall in a bold action against racist profiling. They chanted, “Jim Crow must go, from Cheektowaga to Buffalo!”
The anxiety of mall owners over the effectiveness of the boycott was evident today. Construction is underway to put a sidewalk in front of the mall.
In previous rallies Pridgen had pointed out that the mega-store owners were not interested in shoppers who arrive by bus, many of whom are African American, and so there was no sidewalk.
Pridgen and others have pointed out how difficult it is for pedestrians to cross Walden Avenue.
No one here will forget that in December 1995 Cynthia Wiggins–a young Black mother–was on a bus from Buffalo that wasn’t allowed to stop on mall property. She was killed trying to cross seven lanes of highway traffic on Walden Avenue to get to her job at the mall.
Lawyers for her estate argued that the bus was barred from stopping at the mall to discourage inner-city Buffalo residents from shopping there. Pyramid Corp. settled the suit for $2.55 million in November 1999.
Her father, Leonard Wiggins, said at the April 28 rally, “The racist attitude has not changed. Maybe a protest like this will get them to change. It’s not just about Cynthia Wiggins, it’s about all of us.”
On this day, for the first time, police were present to escort people across the dangerous highway.
Pridgen stressed that if town officials and mall owners are seriously committed to diversity and are sorry for Cynthia Wiggins’ death, then they can show it by renaming the avenue “Cynthia Wiggins Drive.”
:fist:dont shop at pyramid malls!!!!!
:yawn:yeah thats how i get my sleep i just take like an hour or two wake up do something go back to sleep same baic idea just a little bit larger scale
I’ve known people that can do that, but it’s never worked for me.
Just looking at the MMS blog – does the 800-STEPH-YOU or whatever it is number no longer work to get to Marc’s show?
:fu:heres a link to another story
i was on hold last night driving from portsmouth oh to lima oh!!!!!
By the way, if anybody is interested in that study about whiny kids turning into Republicans, let me know. I found the journal article. It’s from the Journal of Research Into Personality, and is titled “Nursery school personality and political orientation two decades later,” written by Jack Block and Jeanne H. Block from the Department of Psychology, MC 1650, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720-1650. Sounds like a good pair to have on Marc’s show.
Here’s the abstract:
:yawn:sleepy time!

It’s not false, I’ve heard him say it.
Watch his DVD, I believe it’s on there. (My family begged me to watch because, “it’s too damn funny.” ..it wasn’t)
As for his movie…it’s mentioned in the Bible. “when the one who claims to be a cable guy has a #1 movie, so shall the world end.”
We’re doomed. My mom and sister want to see it. I’m sure most of the south will see it.
I have a bad feeling that this is going to be #1 at the box office for at least 2 weeks and it will start a trend, encouraging inbreds to make movies. Tis a shame.
:paranoid:am i all alone again?
FK–Thanks! Didn’t Rachel start to say, “but what you *can* do…” ??
As for whiny Repugs, US Rep from FL Tom Feeney grew up in the house behind ours, and he was a goddam bully! I think the study left out the kids who have a thirst for Power Over. He was the one who initially approached a programmer to write a program to miscount votes.
The fact is there is separation in our society. That’s reality and people of color live with the effects of that every day. To have a person of color on the radio and to hear their point of view especially on an outlet that is primarily white, I feel, is important and should be supported.
Also, I like ebonics and I feel it should be respected for what it is.
I didn’t hear the joke about Abner Louima in its entirety but I can understand if Gillman didn’t like it. It was an horrific incident and I appreciate the viewpoint of an african american on the subject.
Also, I believe diversity is good and I would feel better if Marc could get more people of color as guests and as writers or comics on the show.
Just a few thoughts…
Well, the joke was about the NYPD plan to install “505,000 surveillance cameras throughout the city to help keep track of criminal activity. The NY police department argues that if they had that many cameras back in 1997, they could have prevented Abner Louima from attacking a broomstick with his rectum.”
Personally, my take on that joke would be that it was directed at the Blue Wall of Silence (as well as the fact that some of the worst crimes aren’t out on the streets, but take place right there in the precinct “house”). I associate this more with Rudy Guiliani’s “clean up the streets” crusade and the toleration of police brutalization of suspects than I do as black/white thing, though, certainly, race played a part, too. It’s a main reason why I don’t consider Rudy to be a big hero, and I hope like hell he never becomes President.
but PJ- you gotta hope that Rudy runs just for the theater of it…he was a horrible mayor…just the worst on social issues and expression. It was his way or the highway…and NYC is a theme park thanks to him. I know its really “nice” for the people who live there now, but there was something really wrong with how it all came about and where did they put all those homeless people…?Anyway, he is not a good politician and he would immediately say the wrong thing and give the election to the Dems.
That joke *is* about the police… and I hate this idea that we shouldnt talk about this stuff…and especially to make Wayne Gilman feel more at home or whatever. I think it just shows that he doest have much of a sense of humor and didnt get the joke…No one thought that Louima did anything to himself. It was so obvious what had happened and it had alot of gay overtones, so the cops and everyone else were freaked out…but the ongoing excuse by the cops in NYC and all over, is usually that the prisoner did it to himself!
The problem that Wayne Gilman might also have is that AAR took over NYC’s main black station, WLIB, and he is an old timer in the business…and probably has little sense of humor about any of this. AAR does have a diversity problem as does most of show biz…. I suppose we can add that to their management problems and how they treat listeners etc….
its all a big problem.
But, isi, ebonics are fine if the person can talk regularly, but I deal with kids all the time who are going to have a horrible time finding a job beyond McDonalds if they dont learn to speak properly. That is just a reality in our society, and people who encourage kids these days to speak incorrectly and present themselves as sloopy hoodlums must not want them to be able to make a living…only a golden few become hip hop stars and the rest have to try to go to college and interact outside of the segregated little world where they are kept! Its such an important issue to me…and something that puts me at odds with some PC liberals who think that the development of language is being stifled or something….I think the same thing about any group that speaks unintelligibly. I think its limiting. Ebonics is just the big thing because its so new.
Oh, I don’t care if Rudy runs, I just don’t want him to become president (not that I think ‘merika would actually elect him).
I didn’t hear Wayne’s comments, so I don’t know about that. I mean, he could have been half-kidding (Newsdaddy’s delivery isn’t exactly stellar; I’d love to hear him read Bill O’Reilly’s book – I think he’s the only one that could do it justice: “say…baby………..put down that pipe……….and get….my….pipe……….
………………………………up”). But yeah, I think a lot of people were not too happy about the “liberal” radio station coming in and displacing the folks at LIB with a bunch of crackers that had little or no radio experience.
There is a great show on LIB on sunday mornings at 9AM…its the Al Sharpton show….I think its just a local show and not AAR at all, though I could be wrong.
I wonder what ever became of WLIB not renewing the AAR contract…did we ever hear?…wasnt it the end of this month? The way Marc is talking, it seems like things are pretty screwed up over at AAR headquarters.
Oh and…Im dying for Rudy to run…like taking candy from a baby…If Rudy ran against Hillary it would be the most disgusting burlesk show on both sides since…well, maybe since ever….
Just a little theater!
Could be Rudy vs. Hillary II. Only this time, Hillary gets prostate cancer.
And the stakes are so high…imagine how great it would be!!Rudy is so sure that he knows how to live the right way…and yet he breaks his own rules…and is pretty inept…but then Hill has enough stiff to be swiftboated on and people have so much free floating anger and hate of her to pick up on any little thing….what a mess!
McCain would be alot harder to beat, thats for sure!
WHY the hell doesn’t the GOVERNMENT film the “good stuff” in Iraq?
If they can send out a filmed package of the fake Operation Swarmer…then let THEM film all the good news with complete army protection!
Maybe it’ll be McCain vs. Feingold, and they’ll agree to strict rules for financing the campaign, and hold a series of real, worthwhile debates, and we’ll have an intelligent, thoughtful election that’s about the issues that are really important to the vast majority of the people, and not about some stupid little things that only concern a small cult of wackos, and everyone will be allowed to vote, and whoever gets the most votes will win.
Tell me about the rabbits again, George!
Hell, why go to Iraq to film it? We have deserts right here in the good old US of A, and near all the film studios anyway.
😀 I dare ’em Pj! 😆

Save some for the rest of us, PJ.
Cool, Sean Patrick Maloney (candidate for NYS Attorney General) is promising (if elected) to file a complaint that would seek a federal court order requiring the Bush Administration to comply with the law by compelling the Bush Administration to appear in federal court, in secret session if need be, to show cause for wiretapping any citizens of New York.
“If the Founding Fathers didn’t trust George Washington with unlimited power, why should we trust George Bush?”

My sister sent this to me this morning:
For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on.
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, “If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.”
In response to Bill’s comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive – but would run on only five percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single “This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation” warning light.
7. The airbag system would ask “Are you sure?” before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10. You’d have to press the “Start” button to turn the engine off.
Katherine Harris doesn’t mention the other $27 million she’s got, does she? $10 million ain’t so much when you’ve got over twice that in reserve. Kinda takes the excitement out of the crap shoot. Viva Las Vegas! Thanks, BatB!
PJ, Maloney’s ad is well done. Good luck to him. “If the Founding Fathers didn’t trust George Washington with unlimited power, why should we trust George Bush?” Indeed!
And lastly (as the delicious aromas waft from the kitchen) (obviously, I’m not cooking!), South Park didn’t kill Chef. He killed the Golden Goose and then, in accordance with the pact, committed suicide. If you’re gonna laugh at everybody else’s religion, don’t be so stuck up when it’s your turn.
When I was in college several years back, I was in a political science class with a retired US Army NCO. His wife was from Germany. People on her side of the family were ethnic Germans who had been driven out of the Oder-Niesse region of Poland. One or two of them had written and published privately a very fine book on the matter, and argued (appealled) that the Polish government should allow them to return. I hear things from time to time on the subject, but I actually know very little about it. Gunter Gras writes about such people in his novels.
Katherine Harris is so pathetic. I believe that Janeane Garafolo did a fair job of trashing her a few nights ago.:rofl2:
Pearl Harbor!
if you can stand to turn on the teevee mr f has a story running on nightly (6:30 est) tonight
The military is out of control. As part of the executive branch, it’s expanded under cover of the national security state. Back when I was a kid, the Pentagon was called the Department of War. Now, it’s the Department of Defense, though it palpably has nothing to do with defense. Hasn’t for a long time. We even have another department of the government today that’s concerned with “homeland security.” You wonder what on Earth do we have that for–and a Department of Defense, too!
Chalmers Johnson
What’s with this Wayne Gilman mad at Marc stuff? Is something there, or is it more of the tabloid stuff that has been swirling around AAR and WLIB from the beginning?
:nixon:
what nightly farmercat? takes a bit more work to find it here, but i will!
[Avigdor Lieberman] wants hundreds of thousands of Arab citizens who live in a small area of Israel adjacent to the northern tip of the West Bank to have their homes transferred out of the Jewish state and incorporated into what will be left of a ghetto Palestinian state behind Israel’s separation barrier.
He also wants any remaning Arabs to be stripped of their citizenship unless they pledge loyalty to a “Jewish and democratic state”. In signing up, they will forfeit the right to vote for Arab parties, which demand Israel’s transformation from a Jewish state into a “state of all its citizens”.
Lieberman is said to believe that the citizenship of up to 90 per cent of the Arab population can be annulled this way. And what he is saying publicly, there is every indication Kadima is saying privately. . .

Oh, I hope I didn’t miss Mr. I just turned it on.
Where’s Mr FK???
My husband and I are listening to a book on tape about the history of World War II, and I got out my copy of The Times Atlas of World History to see if the maps would help make visual sense of what I was hearing on the tape.
One of the most interesting maps in the chapter “The aftermath of the War in Europe” was the map with the legend “Peoples resettled, evacuated or expelled (with numbers).”
Here are the numbers that the map showed:
40,000 from Estonian SSR to Soviet Union
60,000 from Estonian SSR to Sweden
410,000 from Leningrad region to Finland
100,000 from Latvian SSR to Soviet Union
90,000 from Latvian SSR to Sweden
50,000 from Lithuanian SSR to Poland
80,000 from Lithuanian SSR to Soviet Union
2,300,000 from Soviet Union to areas bordering Soviet Union on the west
1,500,000 from Soviet Union to Poland
3,000,000 from eastern Poland to western/northern Poland
1,950,000 from Soviet Union to Germany
1,900,000 from northwestern Poland to Germany
1,850,000 from central-west Poland to Germany
3,250,000 from Warsaw area of Poland to Germany
1,950,000 from central Czechoslovakia to western Czechoslovakia
2,900,000 from Prague to Germany
50,000 from Romania to Germany
200,000 from Hungary to Germany
250,000 from Yugoslavia to Germany
1,000,000 from Germany to areas outside of Europe (noted as “Peoples settled by International Refugee Organisation”)
The text for the map says:
“Post-war population movements. The collapse of Hitler’s Third Reich in 1945 released millions of prisoners of war and slave-workers incarcerated in Germany during the war. A more lasting shift of population was the expulsion of Germans from some of their pre-war territories, especially in eastern Europe, and from lands they had annexed in the late 1930s. A further movement at the end of the war was the result of the westward expansion of the Soviet Union, especially the annexation of the Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Its living in the past, to be sure, but did anyone listen to the Randi Rhodes-Mark Maron commentary on the Left of the Dial DVD? Its ten times better than the movie itself.
Get it from the local library. Great stuff.
Cresttwo, I usually don’t listen to the damn boring commentaries, but Randi & Marc were worth the price of admission! I think I’m going to go back and listen to the commentary and the unvarnished versions again. Just because.
NickiRose, you are a font of sources!
“Saying that Israel and the US are united by a shared terrorist threat has the causal relationship backwards,”[Mearsheimer and Walt] write. “The US has a terrorism problem in good part because it is so closely allied with Israel, not the other way around.” The scholars add, “Support for Israel is not the only source of the anti-American terrorism, but it is an important one, and it makes winning the war on terror more difficult. There is no question that many al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden, are motivated by Israel’s presence in Jerusalem and the plight of the Palestinians. Unconditional support for Israel makes it easier for extremists to rally popular support and to attract recruits.”
Those WWll refugee numbers! Shocking!
A “what does this have to do with the conversation” quote:
“For your information the Marine Corps is the Navy’s police force and as long as I am President that is what it will remain. They have a propaganda machine that is almost equal to Stalin’s.”
-President Harry S. Truman, 1950
watching keith olberman talking about the state’s department’s report on Iraq 😮
Before and during the war, Pound broadcast over Italian radio. He was not broadcasting Italian propaganda. He was broadcasting his own thoughts on a large variety of subjects and the Italian government exercised no control over the content of his broadcasts. Pound’s broadcasts were strongly pro-Italy and often strongly anti-Roosevelt and attacked the policies of the current American government. He believed that American was wrong to be engaged in war with Italy and sometimes strongly attempted to dissuade his fellow Americans from continuing that war. At the same time, Pound very strongly believed that his broadcasts were not anti-American.
Whether Pound’s broadcasts made him a traitor or not is a technical legal point. Legally, it is not treason to condemn the policies of the American government, even when a war is at issue. (As we saw during the Vietnam era, however, popular opinion often takes a different point of view.) On the other hand, to actively aid an enemy’s war effort is certainly treason.
hola Seditionists…..

WHAT DID EZRA POUND REALLY SAY?
From 1945 through 1958 America’s iconoclastic poet–the flamboyant Ezra Pound, one of the most influential individuals of his generation–was held in a Washington, D.C. mental institution, accused of treason. Pound had merely done what he had always done–spoken his mind. Unfortunately for Pound, however, he had made the error of criticizing the American government in a series of broadcasts from Italy during World War II. For that he was made to pay the price. The July 1995 issue of The Barnes Review told the story of Pound’s travails. Here, however, TBR presents a fascinating in-depth overview of precisely what Pound had to say in those now-infamous broadcasts. Was Pound a traitor–or a prophet? Read his words and judge for yourself.
