After today, there’s only one more show left. Yesterday, Marc said he was worried that he wouldn’t be able to hold it together on Friday, and that he’d start crying on the air. I almost lost it, just hearing him say that.
After the 2004 “election,” I couldn’t watch TV, I couldn’t listen to the radio, and I would turn the other way if I saw even the hint of a newspaper. Didn’t wanna see it, didn’t wanna hear it – didn’t even wanna think it.
The only thing that I could listen to was Marc & Mark on Morning Sedition. As pissed off and bummed out as I was, they could still make me laugh, and I knew they felt the same way I did. So it was like hanging out with friends who understood – they “got” it. So they were allowed to talk about it.
If there’s anybody out there who doesn’t feel the same way – who doesn’t get how somebody could care about a radio show and come to think of a group of strangers as friends – family, even – well, I feel sorry for you. Because, as shitty as this is right now, it’s been one hell of a ride, and I thank everyone involved with Morning Sedition for getting up in the middle of the night, giving up a normal family life, and consistently putting on the best radio program of all time. See, if I didn’t care so much now, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the last 20 months as much as I have.
Enjoy these last two shows folks. You’ll never get anything like them again.

wheres my goldurn firetruck!
pbffffft! Mornin gang, from the left coast!
:fire: Woop, there it is.
Now I’m fantasizing about this whole thing about cancelling MS is a big promotional PR stunt and my brain is working all the evidence around that theory. And a pretty cheap(I mean cheap as in inexpensive) one too, using the fans to scream and moan about it’s demise. Look at how they got a little media attention from it? I dunno, I guess I will find out tomorrow whether I’m just a starry eyed optimist in denial.
It would be great if it was just a stunt, but somehow I doubt it.
Of course, they never bothered to register the airamericamornings.com domain name, either. Funny, that takes you right back to morningseditionists.com.
Now, how did that happen? 🙄
My optimism:
Remember that Star Trek was cancelled.
It won’t take too long for the numbers to demonstrate Danny Goldberg’s folly.
I believe (maybe naively) that Morning Sedition or a reasonable facsimile will reappear in the not too distant future.
I’m just depressed that there will be silence for the time being.
If there is a demand, there will be a supply. What can do to demonstrate the demand? Patrick…I’m listening.

Anyone know what the deal was with Marc’s meltdown this morning? Was that for real? It sure sounded like it. I’m going to be pissed if it was just a stunt, because this show has put me through an emotional wringer the last few weeks.
I think that was for real. I was amazed that the executive lost his cool and started yelling and screaming in the studio. That they had to cut the broadcast twice in 15 minutes? Wow. I’m not expecting to hear Marc for the last show tomorrow morning.
I have no ‘insider’ information, but it sounded like a stunt to me. No doubt, it’s a setup for whatever they’ll be doing tomorrow, though what this is setting up, I can’t begin to guess. Maybe Marc will have been holding the “suit” hostage all night, and is refusing to leave the studio w/o a new show.
Maybe the show will end with SWAT taking him out.
Whatever they’ve got planned, I guess it’ll be more than a touchy-feely final sendoff. I reckon that’s fitting.
Yeah, I think it’s a setup. Although I’m a bit surprised they (AAR management) have let this go on. Normally when you nuke a show you do it quickly and quietly so you don’t build up resentment. Maybe they figure not enough people listen to MS to matter, and often sheeple say “I’ll never listen/watch network X again” then go back. But I’m done with AAR. I can’t believe how upset I am about this show ending.
 Marcus Maronium, Rex Iudeum!
Because of the way contracts with both the employees that work on and the affiliates that have licensed a radio show, there is rarely a way to quietly cancel a show (unless the content provider, in this case AAR, folds). Most contracts with affiliates require a month’s advance notice before a content provider can pull a show from its lineup and not pay heavy contractual fines. A similar thing occured with ‘The Connection’ which was produced by WBUR in Boston. It was announced that it was canceled, but had to keep doing shows for another month, using guest hosts.
I have no idea if it was a stunt or not, but it didn’t feel like one, especially with all the dead air and no signoff when the hour ended. It was almost Pythonesque, except it wasn’t funny. It just left me with an unpleasant feeling in my stomache.
I think they were about to have Marc disappear at the end of November, but a funny thing happened. Marc didn’t keep his mouth shut about his lack of a contract renewal, and all of a sudden thousands of folks from all over the US (and around the world) were signing the petition, calling, writing, and e-mailing AAR, and just in general rising up and voicing their discontent. At that point, they couldn’t just Lizz Winstead him, and I guess they began looking for some kind of a way to appease the fans. It probably didn’t hurt that everybody but the one person who ultimately calls the shots (and whatever yes-men minions he’s surrounded himself with) knew that this was a bad move.
So, hopefully, Marc will get a new show. It will still have been a huge mistake on AAR’s part. I honestly believe that with a little promotional push, Morning Sedition could have become the morning radio show for intelligent people with a sense of humor. I mean, look at how many fans there are from all over, for a radio station that claims 80 affiliates (many of which don’t carry MS – or many of the other AAR shows), which probably have a combined 150,000 watts.
I think in the breathless spirit of taking the leap that we’ve grown to expect and love, we’ve all been ‘punked’ one final time- god bless us all:banana:
and here’s one for Butch:evil:
:banana:Sorry, trying to get rid of one bannana, created another:oops:
If we’d been punkd today I would be the happiest person on earth.
No, wait a minute…that makes me sound utterly pathetic. Let’s try that again:
If it turns out that we were punk’d, I’ll be happy and relieved — and I’ll give them props for doing something original.
And if that’s the case, they did a hell of a job with it. But based on what we know about Marc, and how he handles anxiety, I don’t think we’re being punk’d. It was like listening to a trainwreck. It wasn’t funny, it wasn’t pleasant, and yeah, it left me feeling a bit queasy myself.
We’ll see if he shows up on Majority Report. That may tell us something, because if it’s not a stunt, I can’t imagine they’d let him back into the building.
Having taken my turn in the radio barrel years ago I know from bitter experience that talent (&everybody else) is hired to be fired, no matter what their book is or how good of a job they do. All program directors have their heads inserted firmly up their asses & they all think they’re smarter than you. They are all aggressively unhip & they all think they are the coolest cats in the room. This Goldberg ass-clown is no different & will be managing a Burger King in a couple of years telling everybody with a set of ears about how he ran “Morning Sedition” on AAR & made it a powerhouse & then got screwed. And no, I don’t know how these inept bunglers wind up with their jobs in the first place.
It’s been 20 years since I had any dealings in the radio business and that was only indirectly, and I understand about the contracts, but I thought most have buyout and other “emergency” cancellation provisions. Rather than risk the bad publicity, I thought the inclination would be to pay the $ or have a legal fight rather than have a public messy goodbye.
 Marcus Maronium, Rex Iudeum!
Yeah, Marc had signed a two-year contract (so he said), with the first year guaranteed, and an option for a second year. They declined to pick up the option for year two, and could have just given him the boot with a month or whatever to go, and just paid off the rest of the first year.
I’m sure they looked into the cancellation provisions but they decided to go cheap, give everyone a heads up that MS’s last day would be Dec 16, and go from there.
MS is on how many affiliates now? AAR has been considered a high risk venture and I’m sure that the independent affiliates put them over a barrel with strict terms to broadcast AAR’s shows.
It’s really making me sad. I always listened to the last hour of MS every morning on the way to work because I needed the funny in a very upsetting world. Few people mix outrage at politics and funny as well as Marc, and his voice will be missing now. I really wish him all the best.
Damn! Sounds like I missed a lot of shit this morning!!! I had to go into a meeting, and missed the scene with the suit and the Death of Sammy the Stem Cell!!!
I’ll tell ya, when AAR left Sirius, I tried to listen to the “left” channel in the morning, and it just didn’t cut it. Bill Press is OK, but never held my interest, and Alex Bennett is (IMHO) an asshole.
It’ll be music for me, come Monday. If I had an AAR affiliate in my area, I’d probably put it on in the morning, but I just can’t see myself futzing with the streaming or waiting impatiently for the podcast version to be posted with “Air America Mornings” the way I have for MS.
Nobody’s really mentioned what’s going to be on between now and January 2nd. I wonder if it’ll be MS “best of’s.”
I just hope it isn’t “Best of Jerry Springer.” An oxymoron if ever there was one.
I just hope my case of “Blow Me Up Elmo” dolls makes it to Danny G for the holidays.
I’ve got lots of used cat litter ready to be shipped out next week 😈
Best of Springer?? I seem to recall a Monty Python skit: it made me want to eat my own vomit.
That business with Maron and the so-called Air America Exec this morning was an homage to monty python’s Holy Grail movie, which ends abruptly when the police shut the cameras down. The voice of that ‘radio exec’ sounded pretty familiar, like the “Republican” who wrestled Foley.
That was Brendan McDonald….but was that last bit before they went dark with the so-called radio guy, or with McDonald? It seemed to me that the other guy had left and he was having it out with McDonald.
I can’t decide whether I’ll be relieved if we’ve been punk’d or if I’ll be furious.
It sounded more like Pashman to me, but they could have grabbed anyone with a voice we haven’t heard before. As citizenkahn posted on the MS board:
So, we’ll see. The MR ought to be interesting tonight. I wouldn’t be surprised if tonight’s appearance has been part of the setup for the last show all along. I half expect Sam to interview Marc from the MS studio, where he’s barricaded himself in, holding Steve Gilmartin hostage.
SWAT: Hey pal, get back. We got a situation goin’ on.
SEDER: Maybe I can help, I’m Sam Seder of the Majority Report. I’ve known Maron for years. I used to admire him, before I knew any better. Ever since my career eclipsed his, I’ve been afraid he’d snap like this.
Great Thursday Morning Radio! :peace::rofl2:
Damn! Sounds like I missed a lot of shit this morning!!! I had to go into a meeting, and missed the scene with the suit and the Death of Sammy the Stem Cell!!!

Well, it serves you right for not having your priorities in order, LOL!
Seriously, I’m going to try to only remove my headset during commercial breaks. I don’t want to miss a minute of this shit.

Did somebody say, Marc Maron? Can you say, Marc Maron? Let’s all say, Marc Maron!

Oh….sigh…can’t believe how sad I am. When ge first mentioned the suit, I fantasized a surprise for all– that MS was getting a reprieve. Knew my hopes were for naught and do blieve this was a set up.
Got to go downstairs and clean up so that I can stream MR tonight.
In case you didn ‘t see this on the blog. My doctor was amazed at how my knee has recovered. I attribute it to doing my exercises, laughing, and grooving on Marc’s interviews on MS.
Lots to say, but I have to take care of the ouse before it explodes and before 7pm EST
Janeane and sam were in on it. This is brilliant, it’s a crazy ride, man! It is totally keeping my mind off of other problems. I’m pretty sure it is an extravagant bit and i am honored to be a part of the funny in a small way. I’ll let Marc drag me along on this rollercoaster and if it has raised his profile, all the better(unless he lets it go to his head).
Yep, they played along. I don’t know how they’re gonna play this out tomorrow, but they really are making it a unique ending. Something different, right ’til the end.
You know, there are a lot of people who just don’t get this. I’m really happy to have made contact with those who do. I hope we’ll stay together as a community, because I think the world needs us. Really, I do.
Oh, and Gypsy, I hope you’re feeling better.
I can’t freakin’ believe they did this to their network!! The ONLY relief from all the straight talk, and they kill it!!! They only want TALK SHOW CLONES.
CRAP CRAP CRAP.
In the words of Mike Malloy,
“What is WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE”
“Have I mentioned before how much I hate … ?”
Apparently PERSONAL CRAP matters MORE THAN BUSINESS SENSE. WHAT AN IDIOT DG IS. Even CEO’s of major corporations set aside their personal stuff for BUSINESS.
I’m DEFINITELY NEVER NEVER NEVER GOING TO LISTEN TO SHIT IN THEIR OLD MS TIMESLOT. NEVER NEVER NEVER. WHATEVER THEY STICK THERE, THAT PERSON IS SCREWED. SCREW DG.
They’ll see…that slot will be a MORGUE for replacements, ‘cuz I ain’t listenin…I’ll find SOMEHOW TO GET MARON’S STUFF, and PODCAST it to MYSELF during that slot. SCREW DG.
CHRIST. Can’t get enough of MS, and it’s all over! BOOHOOOOO.
