Hey, happy Earth Day everybody. I hope y’all getout and enjoy it, since who knows if we’ll ever have another one. For me, I’ll be away for most of the day today, not doing anything make the world a bettter place, but trying to scramble together enough data for a project on 2.4 GHz interference. Oh well, at least the weather is supposed to suck, so I won’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.
First 🙂
Second . . . Good morning sleepy heads!
Congrats Susan!
Wear your regalia proudly. (and use the coupons today, they won’t work tomorrow)

The DOE director on c-span :barf:.. based on how Bush speak works they must be going to shut down all R&D by the government.
:rant1:Before I drift into the subconsciousness of my mind for the evening, I just thought I’d through down a simple request for the seldom read and much appreciated Seditionists to return to blog world. And for those that are frequent bloggers that have for some mysterious reason or another, who have just been lackadaisical about their blog duties and responsibilities- having drifted from our group the last do or so, to rejoin the collective. Maybe there are more important and meaningful aspects of daily life that are more pertinent to spend time on, but I would just convey the simple notion to you that writing a freakin’ sentence takes two seconds, so do it! Cool:nod: I’m toast. Later, sheeple.

Happy Belated Birthday to Melina.

I think Melina’s :cake: is the day after, if I’m not mistaken.
Last night’s podcast is up.
fred, where are you readiing or watching on the harvest?
I can’t believe what a disaster the bush crime family made of the China visit. They couldn’t have done worse than if they’d actually tried.
Has everyone seen this excellent documentary?
ONE BRIGHT SHINING MOMENT: The Forgotten Summer of George McGovern
125 minutes, color / b&w, 2005
Narrated by Democracy Now! Host Amy Goodman
George McGovern’s bold and grassroots presidential campaign of 1972 may have been the ultimate political defeat of the American Century, but also was perhaps its high watermark. Using a wealth of archival materials, interviews with prominent progressives like Gore Vidal, Gloria Steinem, Warren Beatty, Howard Zinn and featuring music from Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Donovan, and Elvis Costello, this portrait of an “honest, idealistic man driven by a sincere wish to help his country will make you weep for our current political state.” – IFC
C-span actually had a representative from the group that lady belonged to.. China’s overall human rights policies suck but putting people in work labor camps and if they don’t work out so to speak killing them and harvesting their organs is going to far. It sounds like something out of Hitlers Germany.

Hey everyone-
Kat-Dowd has chimed in on the China craziness….Im very worried that this lack of diplomacy will cause a world war….
Our rules are so unclear and we cant call them torturers or anything really anymore, because we’re also torturers…and we also dont follow the laws…
Anyway, I sent out Dowd to a few and will post it later on on RIPCoco after karate but if anyone wants it just drop me a mail and Ill send it along.
Kat I have a feeling that you probably get the Times due to Mr’s job but I sent it anyway:grin:
Its raining and I wonder if all the farmers markets are gonna be closed today…
Happy Earth day everyone. I want to try to find some ladybug eggs and praying manti too!….They eat alot of garden bugs…but of course, with the woods right here (until Bush sells them…and they just OKayed a huge development on some of the last privately owned land back there…it was Gene Tunny’s 80 acre estate when Grandpa was young)…off the bugs go into the wilderness…but its all good.
:billcat:Morning evening as applies from here in sunny Lil’ Beirut where it is chilly 39F but is supposed to warm up.
The Chinese are big students of history. Therefore when the government/dynasty sees any popular movement they move to suppress it e.g the Taiping uprising of the 19th century and the current Falunggong.
We, OTOH don’t seem to be students of much under the rule of mad George the presidunce.:yinyang::rant1:

:joe:Good Morning all you li’l Seditionists. Fun show last night. I just love all the guests they’re getting.
I had lunch with my Dad the other day as he passed through town and found out definitively he is of the 30% who still love the chimperor.I am overwhelmed by my sense of the wedge that it puts between us even though we are mostly good about separating politics from family. He must be equally as distressed about his terrorist sympathizin’, Cindy Sheehan lovin’ daughter(note the sarcasm, NSA). Wow, there is a lot of misinformation out there. He still thinks there was WMD’s 🙁
:cake::sheep::sheep: tomorrow Melina but happy completion of this year of life today:fire::fist::gate:

Oooh, Krista- Im so upset about the karate teacher being a semi-neocon/stupid ass, along with his brother…I just dont know how I would respond to my father or family members….alot of bad shit has gone down in my family and we muddle through somehow, but at this point, being a Republican would certainly wreck us forever.
I guess that if you can write it off to just plain laziness and stubborness, or stupidity, its a little more palatable but I really feel like we’re fighting for our lives here, and there is no room for laziness.
I also think that there is a big aspect of people feeling like theyve got egg on their faces and not wanting to admit they were wrong!
You cant deny the evidence if you look at it…but you have to look at it first. Even Fux news is reporting some of the lies as the repug have to quickly distance themselves from this administration if they want to play in this game at all.
Be careful with buying insect eggs, Melina. Oftentimes, they are not indigenous to the area you live in and they take over the native population of ladybugs, praying matis.
I have a small flower/herb garden that is organic and the native ladybugs and praying mantis appeared on their own. If you maintain native plants in an organic environment you should get a plentiful supply of native insects.
Happy Birthday in advance Melina! I understand the fight for our lives also and that is what’s so upsetting. My Dad travels all over like Seaniesean and he listens to stuff. Sometimes he mentions news items that I’ve never heard. So he’s on a totally different “news wavelength” than me. He’s always been a little racist but I think it has been inflamed by people like Rush. He(Rush) made it okay to hate for men like my dad who have a bit of the ole Archie Bunker in them.
My Mom’s family was, until recently, largely in a small town outside of Boston…and mostly Democratic…
But her one brother worked at Raytheon from the time he was a kid just out of high school and the navy. He went to night school at Harvard over a number of years as he had a whole bunch of kids and worked his way up to the very top. He was instrumental in the scud missles and had a high security clearance. Even after he retired some 6 or so years ago he was consulting for the government on the whole weapons thing. It was all top secret and he was the secret missle maker family member who we didnt much talk about because it just goes againt the entire rest of the family.
I think he is pretty conservative and probably has been a republican (int he real sense of the word) for a long time, but some time after Bush 2 got in, he really became disgusted…gave up consulting and moved north to be closer to his kids (who are all Dems, as far as I can tell…and dealing with alot of real life things like special ed for an autistic 2nd cousin, needing major operations, etc…) and is disgusted with all of this.
Hes not the person Ive been closest to in my life, as opposed to the younger uncle who is a commercial fisherman and much more like me in his sorta bohemian ways…..and Ive always wondered what one has to do to resolve the idea that youre making missles that kill people…or if its just a job that is to keep us safe and how they are used is not your business. I cant judge but I cant also understand the whole thing.
As a smart and religious guy, he seems to be pretty clear abotu what is happening, and what has been happening…and I think it went far beyond what he would or could do a long time ago.
So, if the generals and the missle builders and all the others who had to believe in this stuff from the get go, are able to look at this for what it is, what is wrong with Krista’s father? Carmine Garofolo? The Karate teacher and his borther? 30% of the country??
What is wrong with these people?
We need reeducation camps! Wake up Sheeple!!
Did I tell you all that I got a bumper sticker of that!!?? Its dark brown and matches the car perfectly right next to “who would Jesus Bomb?”
Yes- Im waiting for Seanie to wake up so I can talk to him about the Archie inside about Gay people…
and the psychological implications of homophobia.
I thnk we need to work on the fairness docterine as soon as things are a bit more stable. At least these travelling fools need a balance….then we can bring back the real republicans who serve to balance our more fringy side…but this is not republican or even conservative….its not like much of what we’ve ever seen except in horrible historical aituations that ended badls

Supposedly no nation experiencing fascism has ever gotten out from under it by internal actions.. fascist states have typically ended violently usually in a war which they lost.
There was a radio station in Denver three years ago that tried a balanced approach where they had both left and Reich wing talk show hosts. They mixed the programming so there was about three hours of one and three hours of the other.. The progressives couldn’t listen to the conservatives and visa verse so they got really poor ratings and had to shut it down. As I understand the fairness doctrine a station would have to mix liberal and conservative hosts so one would be ready to throw up only half the time.
President Bush’s visit to Stanford University’s Hoover Institution was quickly moved to another location after more than 1,000 protesters converged around the Hoover tower.
The White House said the protesters blocked the only road into the central areaof the campus where Hoover is located, which forced a meeting with several Hoover fellows to be moved to the campus home of former Secretary of State George Shultz, a Hoover fellow who organized the gathering.
The motorcade instead traveled to the house, which is on the outer edge of campus.
The change in plans delayed the president’s arrival by about 15 minutes.
Protesters said they were disappointed that the President would not see them and accused the President of sneaking around to avoid them.

The discussions often flare with anger, particularly among many midlevel officers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and face the prospect of additional tours of duty.
“This is about the moral bankruptcy of general officers who lived through the Vietnam era yet refused to advise our civilian leadership properly,” said one Army major in the Special Forces who has served two combat tours. “I can only hope that my generation does better someday.”

Bush is down to 33%.
How is it possible that there are that many oblivious people in a country of 275 million people?
Here’s how it works.
At least 7% are so out of it or distracted that they don’t know George Bush from Nunn Bush. Many of them think that the father is still in office.
Another 18% or so are child molesters and wife beaters, twisted people who truly admire Dick Cheney and emulate him in their daily lives, producers of TV reality shows and cable ‘news’ shows, and sellers of narcotics to school children. You know, plain old evil motherf**kers.
The final 8% are people who are congenitally unable to say anything bad about a president of the U.S., because they feel that it would be equal to saying that they hate their own country, and hate themselves. There is no president that they will fail to support, even if Josef Mengele were to get installed by the John Roberts Supreme Court. Anyone at all will do.
Oh, and Chris Matthews.
So you see, from this ironclad mathematical proof, Bush has really hit the rock bottom of his support.
Tomorrow we will explain “fundamentalism.”
:fist:klitschko! yay!
I was wondering about that 33% .. honest.:fustrate::jason:

Washington – The apprehension on Wednesday of more than 1,100 illegal immigrants employed by a pallet supply company based in Houston, as well as the arrest of seven of its managers, represented the start of a more aggressive federal crackdown on employers, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.
Describing the hiring of millions of illegal workers, in some cases, as a form of organized crime, Mr. Chertoff said the government would try to combat the practice with techniques similar to those used to shut down the mob.
“We target those organizations, we use intelligence to define the scope of the organization, and then we use all of the tools we have – whether it’s criminal enforcement or the immigration laws – to make sure we come down as hard as possible and break the back of those organizations,” Mr. Chertoff said at a news conference.
The arrests took place just days before the Senate reconvenes with immigration laws on its agenda.

Rooting for Ordinary Israelis to Wake Up
The Little Mermaid on Highway Six
By DEB REICH
Palestinian children are not made for war, any more than Israeli children are made for war. Yet while the politicians jockey for power, our Israeli mothers go on loyally sending their children to join the army and terrorize the neighbors, as if that were a normal thing to do, believing it their duty to the nation; and Palestinian mothers continue to live in fear when their kids sneak out to throw stones at the tanks those Israeli kids are driving, and sometimes they come back in a box. Miki, a former babysitter for my children, granddaughter of a good friend, a sweet, charming girl, was conscripted into the Israeli army at 18 with all the other kids, and became a sharpshooter instructor. Her trainees, still children themselves, go out and shoot Palestinian children in the streets of Nablus or Hebron. Who can make sense of this? And what of another friend’s only son Haggai, the dreamer, the nature-lover, who will never sit under a tree again on a summer’s day, watching the clouds sail by in the sky? The Czar’s army (they call it the IDF here) got him, and ate him alive.
Indeed, the callous Israelis the Palestinians see are not the caring Israelis I know; and the one-dimensional caricatures of Palestinians the world sees in the media are not like the actual Palestinians I know, either. The Palestinians I know are regular, ordinary people, with good days and bad days like everyone else; not perfect, but human; people like me; just people. The Palestinians in the news are always either bad guys, or in mourning–either crazed perpetrators or hapless victims of violence. Why don’t the newspapers ever talk about regular Palestinians, just trying to have a life, just like you and me? A baker in Jenin bakes bread just like a baker in Kansas City or Calcutta, or Beersheba or Haifa; and some kid in Jenin named Mahmoud or Soheila eats it for breakfast with the same satisfaction your kids display, scarfing down their toast and jam in the morning. A minister friend of mine visiting Israel from the USA recently took an Israeli Jewish couple she knows to visit a Palestinian- Arab Israeli couple she knows, and the Jewish woman confided afterwards: “But their children are just like ours!” Well yeah. . .
http://www.counterpunch.org/reich04222006.html
Okay! I see that I’m not wanted here. (I can’t even post an emo anymore.)
Shit!
If we could get people to stop seeing each other as stereotypes we’d have the key to peace, I’m sure of that…in education the key is the the “multicultural” education that conservatives are so afraid of. Children are taught that groups of people everywhere have basic similarities, therefore linking everyone of the human race together. There’s the “real evil liberal agenda for you… how horrible, we’re trying to say we’re all One People. Kids instinctively believe this, by the way, unless it’s countered by a barage of propaganda from racist parents or peers
new look or a glich?
all’s back. guess it was a glich.
:jason: :::tackles the glitch monster::::
Susan, IMHO, sterotypes are learned at home, not school.
(as an aside, I’m a director at a school)
yes, that’s what I was trying to say…multicultural educaiton in school counters what’s learned at home…is it any wonder racists are at war with the schools and this type of curriculum? They want to teach hate to their kids. It’s hard to fight
and let’s not get into home schoolers:!:
home school…I don’t know how to feel about that. I’m torn between “it’s the parent’s right to educate their own child,” (especially in places where schools are really bad), and the fact that not always, but often, homeschooled kids are kept from seeing the real world…I didn’t go to the greatest schools but I’m glad I was socialized and exposed to a mix of kids from many races, religions, etc. Maybe because I’m a teacher for so long I like to see public schools as a good thing in general

(Born 1940, died 1976)
I cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I’d lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every coloured boy becomes a star
But don’t talk about revolution
That’s going a little bit too far
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
I’m glad the commies were thrown out
of the AFL-CIO board
I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
as long as they don’t move next door
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can’t understand how their minds work
What’s the matter don’t they watch Les Crain?
But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I read New Republic and Nation
I’ve learned to take every view
You know, I’ve memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I’m almost a Jew
But when it comes to times like Korea
There’s no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I vote for the Democratic Party.
They want the U.N. to be strong
I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs
I’ll send all the money you ask for
But don’t ask me to come on along
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I’ve grown older and wiser
And that’s why I’m turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
It’s “I’ll help the cops take down your name”

WIPERS No One Wants An Alien Lyrics
Looking from the inside you feel,
Nothing on the outside is real.
Does it really show?
All the other kid’s put you down,
No one ever wants you around. No one want’s an alien.
Never ever thought you could feel
Cuz everything around you stands still
But will they ever know?
Dreaming of a place far away
Know that you were born here a stray
Does it realy show?
Cant make it playing their games,
When everyone plays it all the same
No one wants an alien
Never ever thought you could feel.
Cuz everything around you stands still.
But will they ever know?
Looking from the inside you feel,
Nothing on the outside is real.
Does it really show?
The vision keeps coming at you still,
Cause somthing deep inside you is real.
But will they ever know?
Never ever thought you could feel.
cuz everything around you stands still.
No one want’s an alien.
I can’t sleep anymore, I think my sleep cycle is all ferblunged…
