Big hurdle to get over today, as I turn in my final project in my wireless class, and give a presentation on it. I dunno what’s worse – that, or having to sit through the other seven presentations. But, once this is over, I only have, let’s see, one project one paper, and two finals to go. God, I hate this shit.
So, you think Marc’ll get Spinger’s spot? Poor guy, he’d have to start working the same hours he had for MS. Or maybe Franken is getting ready to go and be a candidate, and Marc can slide into his slot? Or maybe they’re going to ditch Malloy altogether, and slide Marc in there? I’d hate to see Malloy off the air, but the other two I could live without. Time will tell, I reckon.
Good morning everyone…there was no stream last night at all. I’m not surprised, because it’s been working sporadically anyway… oh well.
Do I understand this correctly? Fearsome Leader is ordering an investigation into Dick Cheney’s energy policy? Why? Which part went off the tracks?
Was it the “Let’s make obscene, huge profits off the American consumer” part?
Or was it the “Air pollution is good” part? When asked about bad air four years ago Bush gave the American people sage advice – “Get used to it.”
Scooters. Gangs. Matching attire. What is this, Devo? Quadrophenia?
Comment by NickiRose — April 25, 2006 @ 10:08 pm
Devo didn’t have scooters. I’m from Akron. Trust me on this.
So Bush’s remedy for high gas prices is to REMOVE ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS? Although I guess fuel consumption will go down if drivers are choking to death from fumes. What a fucking genius.
Not to mention the 14-limo motorcade he took to the last energy-conservation meeting. Where’s the bike?
Speaking of cocksucking assholes, welcome aboard Tony Snow. Apparently Sean Hannity didn’t want the gig.
But hey, good morning :sheep:le! Vacation next week!
:banana::banana::banana:
amen. repuks nevah miss an opportunity to move their heinous agenda forward.

hang in there, pj. It sounds like you’re giving birth! Kiss Siggy for me while you’re at it. I’m sure the poor dear is missing his walks.

recovery corner: had allergic reaction to a med that has set me back a bit. off to see 2 docs today to try to get a grip on it. covered in itchy red welts/rash/hives. lovely look for spring :yuck:
upside: I listen to marc in the middle of the night when I wake up itching. his show just keeps getting better. I love that marc reads and prepares so well for his guests and shows. have that damn stix song in my head, though.
Farmerkat, sorry to hear you are doing poorly. Get better soon.
Pj: I would think that AAR is considering this syndication part of their programming as producing a second set of programs that will stream in parallel with whats already here and the affiliate radio stations can choose between the different programs for the over the air transmission. They have Hartman in the same time slot with Franken and some 10 affiliate stations carry him instead of Franken. Marc may be on in the morning some place but will probably not bump any existing programming.
Farmerkat: That rash sounds terrible.. get well fast..
good thoughts, fred. i still long for a maron morning return.
thanks, nc.
Removing the environmental controls on gasoline will probably make half the cars on the road not run after their pollution feedback sensors get all gummed up. The catalytic converters are sensitive to the amount of crap in the exhaust so after you fill up with some pollution plus gasoline your check engine light will come on and your car will automatically pull over to the curb and the dealer will tell you it will only cost 2000 bucks to make it run again.

Bush and co. just wait around for some sort of crisis situation, or just something that needs to be taken care of, and then use that as a cover to enact some “policy.” Katrina was a windfall for them; this is another opportunity. I’m sure the they’re celebrating their asses off.

Hey Farmerkat, hope your new spring look disappears… 🙁 Was Marc’s show really better? Anything special to recap? I was bummed out because the stream didn’t work, but maybe tonight it will.
thanks susans (& Fred!)
i listened to monday’s show – just love how marc prepares for his guests and shows. so many hosts don’t even read the guest’s books. Found Maron just very marc-like, think he’s just fitting more and more in to his groove. and i also like the friendly banter with jim, the poet.
Tony Snow as the White House mouthpiece? With an appointment like that they wouldn’t have even the illusion of credibility to hide behind.
Hmmm. I wonder if he is a topper…
Is Rachel screeching more than usual this morning or is just me.?? She sounds like someone broadcasting while a guy in a ski mask sits across the room and points his Ak47 at her.
Fred, isn’t it comforting to know in this rethug-run society that guy in a ski mask has the right to own an AK47? Makes me all warm and fuzzy with that secure
fatherlandhomeland kinda feeling.:rofl2:
read somewhere that Snow’s move is lateral – same job, just different job titles.
Ciao! guys. (podcast is up btw)
(PS Car Talk should address the catalytic converter issue!)
The dead thing in Rachels truck was probably the rethug she ran over after she left the bar.
Mornin’, :sheep:le.
Didn’t mean to fall off the blog like that–just haven’t had much emotional energy lately and have been somewhat apathetic in pretty much all areas of my life.
However, I did want to let you guys know that we had some very good news from Otis’s vet yesterday: One week after stopping the immunosuppressants altogether, his blood chemistry is holding steady and–barring any surprises–he doesn’t need to be seen again till the end of the summer! (I think it won’t really hit me until I don’t have to bring him into the city next Monday–that’d be the first time in two months, poor little guy.) Thanks for all the support through this–I really couldn’t have done it without you.
(Who’s choppin’ onions?)
Welcome back Kahn..:banana: With the Bushivecs destroying everything before they leave office its difficult to keep a positive attitude.
You got that right, Fred.:knit2:
Welcome back Kahn 🙂 I did receive the CD you sent  Thanks so much. A lot of fun to listen to
CK- congrats on Otis!!! Thats a load off your mind.
Bush can talk all he wants but hes not gonna get anything through….unbelievable what happens every freakin day. How can the Fux News guys keep a straight face at this point?
Its depressing, but not as bad as it was when no one would look at it. Now we’re just caught in a time game where we have to bide our time till we can get some sort of justice and hope that the :sheep:le dont forget whats happening right now under their noses.
How could things come to this?
I have to go and check out Brattleboro VT or some place like that…maybe start to look around somewhere remote to move if things dont work out.
Kev- where are you going for vacation?
Im trying to schedule a hotel for the Baltimore Harbor for the weekend of 5-12 because Will and his friend Ben want to go to a Warhammer convention where they hang around with their carefully assembled and painted armies and play intricate games on big turf boards….Ugh!…
Who knew that hotels at the Baltimore Harbor were $250 per night?…Im trying to find a deal, but they are all sorta similar and the Hyatt has a bridge to the convention center where the boys will be, so it might be easier for me not to have to hover around the geeks and the “parents room”….
Then next is the Origami-USA convention in NYC…at least I can handle that. Its just at FIT and we stay in the dorms….in chelsea where I used to work most of the time when I was in the commercial making business. Ah, memory lane….
Thats my entire summer itinerary….sad, huh?
So strange- I submitted my last post and was brought to the end of last night’s blog…..
Hybrid cars are not whats gonna work…I dont think. I like the little electric station cars that they are testing in some towns, considering that the station car is always the crappiest, most polluting, car in the family.
I will dig out this info about the oil cars…It seems like a great thing and I really want to get back into an old 70’s jeep Cherokee or something…just the thing to rebuild it with and not all that expensive.
I scan gas prices as I drive around and the price vaires so much its incredible…one thing is certain, Citgo is always 20+ cents less….and thats a good thing…shows how far a little socialism can go when yourve got to buy 20 gallons and you drive all the time!
Good Morning CK Glad to hear your kitty is doing good.:ear:
Hope you’ll be able to get off those meds soon Farmerkat. It’s always something with that stuff isn’t it? :yuck:
So, I didn’t get the stream last night. I wonder if it was because I didn’t do the update. Anyone else using Replay get the stream?
Almost any vehicle that burns a hydrocarbon fuel will produce CO and Nitrous oxides as a by product so Hybrids may help make us energy independent but will do very little for global warming. The economic divide might do more in that as gas prices go up more people will ride public transit. Most of the middle class can’t afford to buy a hybrid car at the moment. An electric car with some decent range that you could charge off your home solar system would probably be the best idea.
Krista: From what Susan said there wasn’t a stream last night.
Biodiesel is something that is available to everyone with a little effort. You don’t have to wait for someone to develop it.
Hey Fred, Yeah but my recorder didn’t record anything at all. So was there just dead air or a game?
There was nothing – and it wasn’t just me 🙁 QuietGirl has a Marc Maron fan page, and she also posted that there was no stream. Just a temporary problem perhaps.
The front cover was shot at a tattoo parlor in New York City, where the walls were filled with photos of strange and unusual looking people. The art theme of Exile On Main St was almost identical to the one Robert Frank had 13 years earlier used for his book Americans (1959).
Don’t know.. probably just dead air.. Did you get a file with no sound ??
I started the player from KTLK, I got a quick commercial, then nothing at all
Bio diesel is certainly an alternative fuel but only for diesel powered vehicles. Retrofitting all the gasoline vehicles would be almost impossible and extremely expensive. Bio diesel is also a hydrocarbon fuel so it still has global warming implications.
he story covers about two days of the life of a certain Jimmy, a participant in the early 1960s Mod lifestyle in England. “The story is set on a rock!” announced the composer, Pete Townshend, at one live performance. That remark seems to indicate that the opera represents Jimmy’s looking back at the events of the previous day or two that led him into the gloomy situation where he finds himself at the end of the story. The narrative is difficult to derive from the lyrics, but is given along with Jimmy’s commentary on various matters in a booklet included with the album.
I thought the lyrics actually revealed quite a bit about the state of mind of the main character, though maybe not the specific events of the plot. The whole mod vs. rocker thing was odd, seems like it’s the origin of the Stones (Rocker) vs. Who (Mod) rivalry that somehow developed When I was in high school, you were either supposed to like the Who or the Stones, but not both – and that was many years after the British Mod/Rocker thing took place. Rivalries die hard sometimes.
I didnt get the showlast night….I guess it exists if its up on AAR’s premium page.
Im gonna wait for the torrent and work on the computer later on…
Is anyone gonna go see Mishna in NYC?
Its actually not all that late.
I wonder if I could take Will or if its gonna be x-rated. he can take most language but sometimes stuff can be over the top and he doesnt even get the jokes.
CK- I hope I didn’t miss you:knit2:
So glad to hear you are OK. And dear Mr Otis!
Have you been able to listen to the show at all?
I am just doing a flyby here-
Worked till 10pm last night and have to go now.
I know all about the apathy but we need you here.
The Torrent for Monday nights show ( 4-24-06) is up at
http://www.mininova.org/tor/292040
Not sure if I can make the Mishna show or not (it would have to be the Sat. night one if I do). It does sound like it could be fun, though. I’ll know within the next day or so if that date is booked for me. How many people here live in the area that would go? Call out time!
Good morning all. I think some one forgot to turn on the stream last night. I didn’t get it and usually have no trouble. Thus I was driven to my first successful torrenting.:banana::banana:
FK hope you get immediate relief from the drug reaction. I like Ned Lamont he was a classmate 25 years ago.
CK:banana::banana:yeah:banana::banana: Otis
It’s a dull 49F in L’il Beirut but is supposed to get to 70F
Yeah, that was what the plan was supposed to be, but when he posted this on his blog:
And then this in his e-mail:
I began to wonder if they’ve decided it’s the Marc Show that ought to be on the network, and syndicate/drop something else.
OK, as long as you don’t mind tongues.
I was into both bands–although long after the Mod vs. Rocker fact. For what it’s worth, Townshend adores the Stones. I want to hear Him play that virtuoso rhythm guitar. The Hendrix of Rhythm guitar. Virtuoso.
We got on this kick because of the reference to matching attire and scooters for the “New Seditionists.” Dr. Jimmy.
Must go rehearse with my band. Take photos. Write things for the zine. Busy Day!:omg:
Do you have any MP3’s or any music online? I would love to hear what you play (and see pictures if the visuals are important, which I imagine they probably are) 😀
Yeah, it’s easy to get me on to a topic of rock ‘n roll…after political stuff it’s probably my favorite topic. I live for the stuff
off to work till this evening. see you guys later, I want to see lots of stuff to read when I get back
Be still my heart. Could we possibly have these two things happen within the coming year:
1. Maron on AAR in the Springer or Franken spot;
2. Bush and Chaney hounded from office. [of course, this gives us Wacko Ted Stevens as prez, but whaddyagonnado.]
Here’s a question – what percentage of ‘popularity’ would cause the GOP whores to demand that Bush resign: 22%? 18%? 22 people? $5.50 per gallon? Certainly not 3000 battlefield deaths.
Actually, the Speaker of the House goes before the President pro tempore of the Senate, so it’d be Denny Hastert, who is perhaps not quite as looney as Stevens.
Last night’s show can be downloaded using the media guide in replay a/v after around 2-3 hours after the show if one has purchased replay a/v. This was posted by cnick a couple of days ago. I got the show a couple of hours of the show after enduring dead silence when the show is supposed to be on.
But it was great to see all of Marc’s fans blogging even though none could hear the show.
Kev- where are you going for vacation?
Comment by Melina — April 26, 2006 @ 8:56 am
To bed! 😀
At first, anyway. I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for a few weeks now, and as a result I’m feeling somewhat wick.
:rofl2:
Seriously, nowhere in particular. Just around the area, taking in a couple of museums and maybe a show or two. They Might Be Giants are coming to town next week.
Not that exciting, maybe, but it’s tough to get to shows when your day starts at 4:45 AM during the work week.
I would imagine there will also be at least a certain amount of :40:
Minuteman Project gains mainstream appeal

This is actually an MSNBC headline.. I guess “mainstream” means the people who watch there cable news which is at least a part of that 33% of wingnuts who still support Bush.
Is Rhodes the only liberal talk show host who really thinks Bush is going to attack IRAN ?? Rachel and Hartman hardly ever mention it. I would think Randi’s audience is probably hiding under there bed curled up in a fetal position sucking their thumb instead of doing something about this.. If she really had 9 million people listening you would think there would be people in the streets. :rant1::mad::eek::omg:
Kevin M commented this morning: “Speaking of cocksucking assholes, welcome aboard Tony Snow.”
I’d be offended if I thought you were some kind of “homophobe” Kevin. I figure you thought “cocksucker” was the most insulting thing you could say at the moment, huh? Well as the token “homo” here in this blog (or the only one with the balls to admit same) I’d like to declare myself to be a “cocksucker.” I donno about Tony Snow’s sexuality. Maybe he is . . . maybe he isn’t. I’ve often wondered if Rove might be a closet case. Hope not . . . but the world takes all kinds. Right? I thought so.
I just finished listening to last nights show thanks to the Replay Media site. This wasn’t one of Marc’s better shows. The timing was off on everything. And Lawton’s routine was lame! Kent Jones seemed to just throw shit in there without any creative thought. Perhaps I’m being to critical? Or just nostalgic for the good ole days of Sedition. I’m suspicious of AAR and their plans for Marc’s show. Whatever they may do it will prolly end up costing us more money. I hope not. These nights with no stream at all is for the birds.
So I’m hopeful that Rove is on the way down. I am anxious about all the goings on in Washington of late. I fear these asshole Republicans will find a way to pull themsevles out of the hole. Damn, I wish it were November already!
Laters.
hey everyone! remote blogging from a Dr waiting room….
cnick, I suppose that you could also call me and most of my female hetero friends cocksuckers too!…from time to time anyway….
I’ve never thought of that as an anti gay slam really, but I guess that because Tony Snow is a guy….is it as bad when we say that so and so (joe lieberman!) lives up Bush’s butt?
and then what of brown nosing?
Try not to be too sensitive….I would bet that nthing anti gay was meant by that statement….perhaps he sucks horse ding dong…that would make him into….what do they call that sex with animal thing?….makes me think of Santorum!
I didn’t quite get the thing about the relay site holding the shows….can someone direct me to where the shows are? I am still trying to get a torrent client to work on the desktop. I can probably do it on the laptop but then I have to figure out about the ipod and itunes on an alternate computer….ugh!
oh and Kevin….that’s my favorite kind of vacation!!
Melina go here, http://www.applian.com/replay-av/index.php then click on “Media Guide” link at the top of the page. When you get to the “Media guide” window, click on Search 21186 Podcasts and enter “Marc Maron” in the search box. This will bring up a directory of Marc’s shows. Hope that fills the void of last night. For the record, I think anyone can listen from this page. But only Replay AV owners can download.
Melina, try this link.
Personally, I enjoyed last night’s show, particulary the part about how “political correctness” has been detrimental to the liberal cause.
I guess you’d have to grow up wearing my shoes to understand. If you’d grown up feeling you were a joke, a freak or some kind of mistake, then perhaps you’d understand. If you had the Church telling you that you are going to “burn in hell” if you didn’t stop being “that way.” Then maybe you’d undertand. If I hadn’t witnessed these things even to this day perhaps I’d be a “less sensative” person now. But you’re not a member of the homosexual community, that small percentage of ppl in this land who seem to engender a great deal of fear in heterosexual America even to the point that they would threaten gays at every turn. Gay? We’re going to see to it that you cannot adopt children. Gay? Don’t dare show your affection in public. Deny who you are. Be ashamed. Gay? We’re going to see to it that you never have the right to marry the person you love. Let’s make “faggot” jokes. And then wonder why so many young ppl are killing themselves, taking their lives at such an early age! I managed to put up with the bullshit and survive. I would have figured that a progressive blog such as this one would be more sensative to this issue. Perhaps homophobia exists everywhere? I’m alright with Kevin and you and everyone here. Like I said. I do not think Kevin a homophobe. So I’m off my soapbox now and grounded by the good earth.
Nice to hear that there isn’t a damn ball game to interrupt Marc’s show tonight. Later ppl
Pj, I guess what I’m asking for is detrimental to the liberal cause? I figure it is only a matter of time before gays are tossed overboard by the Democrat party in order to be a more viable party. We just drag you down, right? Having to defend gays is a chore. I guess that’s why I learned long ago to look out for #uno. I’ll chill . . . but it makes for a more interesting blog when I b-i-t-c-h. I’m really sort of having a bit of fun tonight. Ranting and raising h e double L. A little bit of Howard Beale in me tonight? Ahh. Perhaps if I’d just “get-off” I’d relax? Where is my favorite Falcon Porn flick? I know its around here somewhere. 😀
Sorry for my monopoly of the last hour of the blog. I’m going to watch television. Not in the mood for porn. Not really. I wish it were Friday. I wish I’d win the lottery so I wouldn’t have to work anymore. Its not gonna happen. I’m cursed . . . didn’t you know? Have fun seditionists. Maybe I’ll like Marc’s show better tonight. If not, I’ll keep it to myself tomorrow. Good night ppl.
Cnickthomas, poor choice of words on my part. My apologies. No offense intended.
Howza bout Tony Snow is a right-wing sycophant who has shown his true colors by accepting employment from a “man” (and in Bush’s case, I use that word loosely) who he clearly did not respect until he was offered the job. And probably still doesn’t, but we’ll never hear that from him now.
At the time I was pissed off about the overt connection between the White House and Fox News, but now that I’ve had time to think about it, maybe it will help more people make the connection between the two that those of us on this blog knew was there all along.
i hate shitty connections
“i never wanted to be political in any of my recordings. that was something i was never about.” quote from norman blake on bob edward’s show on xm radio today.
and yet, norman blake’s latest recording includes a song, “don’t be afraid of the neocons” which is funny and is extremely anti-bush.
he said that if he’s compared to the dixie chicks, “i could care less.”
for those of you who don’t know norman blake, he played backup for johnny cash and bob dylan (nashville skyline) before going solo in 1972. he’s very downhome. a superb musician. he has lived his entire life in a tiny town in northern georgia (sulphur springs).
No one blogging! I must go!:omg:
Kev you didn’t need to apologize. I know you’re not a homophobe. I just went off cause I think it helps ppl understand where ppl like me are coming from. I worry more about those young gay children than I worry about myself. I have a gay friend who was picked on unmercifully in school to the point that he had to quit school. All is cool. Tty guys and ladies later.
There better be a stream tonight… :growl:
Katrina: Eight Months Later
By BILL QUIGLEY
On Monday, April 17, 2006, two bodies were found buried beneath what used to be a home in the Lower 9th Ward. Their discovery raised to 17 the number of Hurricane Katrina fatalities that have been discovered in New Orleans in the past month and a half. Katrina is now directly blamed for the deaths of 1,282 Louisiana residents. Eight months after Katrina, the state reports 987 people are still missing.
Chief Steve Glynn, who oversees the New Orleans Fire Department search effort that found the latest two bodies told CNN: “You want to put it to rest at some point. You want to feel like it’s over and it’s just not yet.”
Eight months after Katrina, there are still nearly 300,000 people who have not returned to New Orleans. While we can hope that our community is nearing the end of finding bodies, the struggle for justice for the hundreds of thousands of displaced people continues.
Election Blues
The right to vote remains displaced from New Orleans.
In what was billed as “the most important election in the history of New Orleans,” only 36 percent of those registered voted in the recent city elections. Turnout was heavy and high in the mostly prosperous and white areas of Uptown where little damage occurred and exceptionally low in the heavily damaged and mostly black areas of the New Orleans East, Gentilly and the Ninth Ward – where some precincts reported as few as 15% voter participation.
http://www.counterpunch.org
This continues to not be over because we’re all supposed to shut up about it, it’s “so over” at least (with only a few exceptions) that’s the message out there
So funny….they are talking on the majority report blog and on the show about how jeaneane feels that sam has surpassed her and that they might break up…people on the blog want sam to take over for Al…I guess we all want our own guy to get that spot!
and I knew that the Snow thing was about them being able to say that they are able to have one person in the crew who can “express his own opinions”….as if it all wasnt a set up in the first place….
Sam has surpassed her…well, that’s my personal opinion anyway
they want him to take over for Al, meaning Al Franken, not Jerry Springer?
Yay…thats all I can say is …yay!!
well, Al is who is leaving…Jerry buys his time slot
I spent around 2 hours doing it but I got a refund from Norton security suite and got it out of my computer…AND…now my torrents and replay work again!!!!
I like jeaneane, personally…she is very smart and she is totally right most of the time…and snarky and funny. Much better than Randi, if youre comparing bitchy wimmin….but she can be hard to listen to and she has an edge. Reading their blog is funny because the people there listen all the time. Ive only just started replaying it all the time because I find it much more compelling than Rachel these days and as I wander through the market…. and drag fire wood around or do the laundry and clean the freakin animals and the house… I want the thing in my ear thats gonna make me laugh…and lately, thats Jeaneane/sam/marc…less sam and definitley not Al, though hes OK….he just needs a good co-host.
On the blog some of them say that she is so self centered and hollywood…how she wont look at the blog and ignores them…but she is all me, me, me…and so she doesnt do a good interview because she only wants to talk abotu herself. I havent noticed that….
Now I get to download all the maron shows from days past…yay!!
anyhoo—–
Im going to go and watch Jon…
Have a good show guys…catch you all in the AM….
