I watched Baghdad ER last night on HBO. If you hadn’t heard about it, it’s a documentary about the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq. It wasn’t an easy thing to watch. I have a lot of respect and admiration for everybody involved. Other than that, I can’t think of much to say, to be honest, except to wish Mr. FK a safe trip back to the sandbox, and a safe stay while he’s there. We’ll keep an eye on Blogging Baghdad, and hope to hear his reports on the Marc Show. Godspeed Mike.

Good morning everyone!
Another day. Has anyone seen the SNL Funhouse?
Its a bit of the funny while we wait for Marc to
tape….
Hey, Kat, be sure to mail Marc that Mike is going back so they can talk on air once Mike gets situated. I know that everyone doesnt always agree on this stuff, but I like the political parts almost more than the funny….sometimes the funny doesnt work but the political and reporting stuff always does…and Marc’s take on things is so great and important. God, even Jim has me close to becoming a vegan (along with Jeaneane and Bobby Kennedy…these books about factory farming and how they treat animals and what it does to the enviornment just kill me….now I only eat organic free range eggs milk meat poultry, if I do at all…ugh!)
I wish it wasnt so damned hot over there…maybe Mike should have one of those sharper image neck air conditioners…heh…maybe the other reporters would make fun of him:lol:
Hey Melina, thanks for the link to the SNL funhouse- yeah, I like the news ticker running across the screen in the foreground with a weather forecast and the floodwaters coming down on their heads ๐
Melina, SNL Funhouse, is about the only constant funny EVERYTIME…but I do not watch regularly. Thanks for reminding me of them and giving the Link. :rofl2:

Its strange…I dont watch SNL anymore. I tried to watch the weekend update with tina fey and some other girl this week and it SUCKED. Thank god for crooks and liars. It makes us not have to sit through so much crap anymore to get to the goodparts.
CBGB’s is the legendary nightclub and internationally recognized cultural icon that was the birthplace of one of the most significant genres of Rock ‘n Roll, Punk music. As a result of owner Hilly Krystal’s open-door policy, more famous bands debuted at the renowned venue than at any other single club in the world, launching the careers of legends like the Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, and newer bands like The Strokes.
Although CBGB’s lease was up on September 1, 2005, the fight continues! The landlord of CBGB’s, the Bowery Resident’s Committee (BRC) a non-profit homeless shelter that receives almost its entire income from public tax money, has said they will not renew the lease.
On August 10, a judge ruled that CBGBโs did not owe any back rent to the BRC, contrary to BRC claims that the club owed more than $90,000. The case will now go back to court, and CBGBโs will stay open until the judge rules.
CBGB’s and its friends have submitted a proposal to the BRC for a new lease, which addresses and resolves every concern the BRC has expressed. The BRC never responded to the proposal.
More than just a venue, CBGB’s is a symbol of Rock ‘n Roll that attracts thousands of tourists and aspiring artists from all over the world every year to NYC. The bands that premiered at CBGB have sold millions of records and created thousands of jobs for the music industry and New York.
Please keep writing! Now is the time to let New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg and other political leaders know how important CBGB’s is to all of us! Since the BRC receives almost all of its money from New York City and State, the influence of these politicians can resolve the issue quickly and amicably. CBGB’s is the last legendary rock club left in the world and holds incredible meaning to music lovers and musicians worldwide. Together, we can make sure it stays there for future generations of Rockers.

Then again, there were often those kinda boring skits they did — usually they’d be on from about 12:30 – 1:00 — where they’d take something that had a little nugget of humor in it, and drag it out for way too long. That’s kinda what the Al Franken Show reminds me of sometimes.
I thought CBGB was now safe, I had no idea. Thanks for the article. The place is really special.
Best SNL was in the Belushi, Gilda Radner, Steve Martin days. I haven’t watched it in years and years. I think I remember Eddie Murphy for awhile and those Wayne’s World guys, then stopped watching again. I have no idea what it’s even about anymore.
I still think it’s funny. We used to throw SNL slumber parties when I was a kid.
NickiRose, Are you there?

I was just thinking, this is the weirdest blog I’ve ever been involved with. It’s more like a chat room with everyone talking in real time, except that comments stay and you can contribute later on. But great – I love it!

Oh, so, did anyone notice they played that HORRIBLE tv mini series 10.5, again Sat night. And apparently they played a sequel to it last night. FEMA is the hero in this little fantasy and they make a point of showing rescue vehicles with FEMA printed in huge letters. Also, the protagonists use nuclear weapons to save the day and there is an amazingly small amoutn of damage that they cause in the process. It is a classic in the spirit of the sloppy plot with too much sentimentality and an over abundance of patriotism. Those earthquakes hate our freedom! :growl:
Yeah Druid you’re usually signing off when I’m getting up. ๐
Kristapea, I saw the last image of 10.whatever to see my California split and my Northern California I heard was screwed…..Just what the rethugs wish:growl:

what miniseries is that, Krista? It sounds like this is a case of “I’m glad I don’t watch too much TV…”
10.5 and the second one is called 10.5, Apocolypse
If around still Kristapea , what truly happen to my California — it looked bad, but only saw last image ECK:!:

In the end California made out great! They got miles of new coastline and an island that Disney could take over and make into a theme park! Never mind all the people that died in the process because there was angelic music playing so that means God must approve.

When I finally found your listing — I was mortified I could not be online yesterday so when I was unable to talk to you now, I searched for your post (me being asleep) and had to go thru twice. Then when I called I was transfered but NO ANSWER, then when I called back I was hung upon SEVERAL TIMES. I know LA. When they can’t or have no time to deal — they just hang up. Finally, with tears in my eyes and a quiver in voice I said, Please don’t hang up — Blackie was to put down… She transfer me to The Head of the Department, who said he (Blackie) was adopted…I had him, The Head Of the Department, confirm it, have him tell me the “story” to super confirm it…and he said, especially when I told him I heard of Blackie via a “blog” and he laughed and said as soon as it went “out” he, Blackie, almost immediately had a home.
He told me again Blackie was not there and had a good home. I said I worked Graveyard so it takes me a bit to get anything to stick in my head and he swore to me and said I can sleep with ease. He was very nice to an emotional wreck, crying after being hung up on. Thx to woman for “hearing” me and giving me to Head of Department (not a mere supervisor teehee).

Knights Party, an Arkansas based affiliate of the Ku Klux Klan, has posted a web page in support of a bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Colorado), PageOneQ has learned. The report first appeared in ROLL CALL a newspaper serving Washington, DC’s Capitol Hill.
The bill, The Home School Non-Discrimination Act of 2005 (HR 3753), is described on the website as having “[A] lot of provisions. Chief among them is making sure home-schooled students get a fair shot at financial aid and scholarship opportunities. In some states,” the site continues, “these kids can’t apply for some scholarships.” On the website, the Knights Party refers to the bill as HR 2732, the bill number in the 108th Congress.

SAVAR, Bangladesh — Textile workers demanding better pay and one day off per week conditions went on a rampage Monday at an industrial zone near the Bangladeshi capital, setting fire to two factories and several buses, police and witnesses said.
At least 100 people, including several police, were hurt when factory guards and riot police intervened to disperse the stick-wielding protesters at Savar, an industrial town near Dhaka, Nazmul Huda, a local reporter told The Associated Press by telephone.
The protesting workers also damaged several buses and cars after barricading a major highway to the capital, and ransacked dozens of smaller factories, police officer Jamiruddin Sheikh said.
The workers started demonstrating after authorities failed to meet their demands, which include higher wages and benefits, a six-day work week and a stop to forced overtime, Belayet Hossain, a labor leader, said.

Yay! I got my “The Big Buy: How Tom DeLay Stole Congress” DVD today. That, and the wife is going to be home tonight. If she gets here early enough, we can watch the first ten minutes together (after which, I can watch the rest while she sleeps).
Wired has published the full set of documents from the EFF/ATT lawsuit on NSA spying (this is the one where ATT is allowing the NSA to build “secret” rooms for sending voice and data traffic their way. I haven’t had a chance to look them over yet, but they are available here, for those interested (pdf file – might want to save it locally before it gets disappeared).
PJ, thanks for the link to the EFF/ATT lawsuit. I saved it and will check it out later, assuming Alberto Gonzales doesn’t bust me first for having it.

Here’s Seder’s new book
MSNBC’s David Shuster declared Monday evening that Karl Rove’s legal team expects Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald to announce a decision “at any time” in the ongoing CIA leak investigation and that new documents put Cheney’s former chief of staff in the hot seat.
RAW STORY acquired a transcript of the MSNBC report, which follows.
#
CHRIS MATTHEWS, MSNBC ANCHOR: Welcome back to Hardball. In the CIA leak case against Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff Scooter Libby, there are new documents tonight that are raising questions about the possible role of Cheney himself in the actions that led to the outing of a CIA operative. Libby has filed legal pleadings in court saying that he never saw a key document with the Vice President’s handwriting on it. If Libby didn’t see that document, who did?
Hardball correspondent David Shuster reports.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
DAVID SHUSTER, MSNBC CORRESPONDENT (voice over): Former federal prosecutors say it’s a position that increases the odds Vice President Cheney will be called as a prosecution witness in the perjury case against his former chief of staff Scooter Libby.
In the latest pre-trial documents, Libby argues he does not remember seeing Cheney’s handwritten notes about the CIA’s Valerie Wilson on a column by her husband, administration critic Joe Wilson. Quote, “On Libby’s first day of grand jury testimony, when asked if he recalled this particular document with the Vice President, Mr. Libby testified ‘I don’t recall that… I subsequently learned that the Vice President had such an article from the FBI agents who talked to me.'”
Libby also denied disclosing Valerie Wilson’s identity to reporters. And for that testimony, he is facing charges of perjury.
In his latest filing, prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald suggests the Cheney notes are important because they show Libby’s boss was personally focused on Valerie Wilson’s role at the CIA. Fitzgerald writes about quote, “The level of attention being paid by the defendant and others to responding to Mr. Wilson.”
But Libby’s legal team says quote, “these arguments are tantamount to an acknowledgment that the state of mind of witnesses other than Mr. Libby will be important to trial.” And Libby argues he is quote, “entitled to any documents that mention Ms. Wilson that are contained in the files of other government officials.”
Still, Libby’s inability to remember the Cheney notes raises questions. If the chief of his office did not see the Vice President’s notes, who were they intended for? Conversations between Cheney and other white house officials have remained under seal.
Meanwhile, legal experts say the latest Libby filing could be telling for what the defense does not argue. Libby does not challenge the prosecution statement that on the day columnist Robert Novak first disclosed Valerie Wilson’s identity, a quote “CIA official discussed in the defendant’s presence the dangers posed by disclosure of the CIA affiliation of one of its employees as had occurred in the Novak column. This evidence directly contradicts the defense position.”
A former federal prosecutor says the Government’s point about Libby is simple.
SCOTT FREDERICKSEN, former federal prosecutor: “He knew he may have violated the law. And that gave him motive, according to the government, to lie to the grand jury and before that to lie to the FBI.”
SHUSTER: Prosecution documents indicate Valerie Wilson’s classified status will be a key issue in the government’s case. Prosecutors will attempt to show Libby knew about Wilson’s status before talking with reporters. The defense will try and shore up Libby’s claim of having learned about Wilson from reporters by seeking testimony, according to defense documents, from CIA spokesman Bill Harlow.
Both sides in the Libby case have several weeks before they will file the next set of pleadings. And that could help free up prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald and his staff to focus on one key unresolved issue in the overall investigation — the status of presidential advisor Karl Rove.
It’s now been 26 days since Rove testified to the grand jury for the 5th time. Defense lawyers say prosecutors remain focused on Rove’s claim of a bad memory regarding a conversation with Time magazine reporter Matt Cooper. Rove’s legal team and former prosecutors tracking the investigation expect Patrick Fitzgerald to announce a decision at any time.
SCOTT FREDERICKSEN, former federal prosecutor: “Right now is when we would expect the meetings to be wrapped up with his own staff, for him to make the preliminary decision, for him to reach out to Rove’s counsel to have the final conversation, or to notify him he is not going forward or to notify him we are going to indict.”
SHUSTER: (on-camera) “The CIA leak grand jury is scheduled to meet again this Wednesday. As for Scooter Libby, whose lawyers are focusing on his criminal trial, one broad issue they’ve noted will not be part of the case. Libby’s legal team says that in front of a jury drawn from residents of liberal Washington, D.C., defending the Bush administration’s case for war would be foolish and self destructive, regardless of whether the trial features testimony from Vice President Cheney. I’m David Shuster, for Hardball, in Washington.
