Oh boy, another week begins. I went to see the Al Gore movie yesterday, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Oh, I suppose he didn’t address how horrible the beef industry is, and there are those who consider Gore an environmental hypocrite (he was, afterall, a career politician), and those people should all feel free to solve all the problems of the world. In the meantime, hopefully this movie will help to bring about some real changes. That, and the electric car movie when it comes out. 61 more to go.

The capn is good at platitudes… but… in general those with money can hire a good lawyer. The laws are written such that they more often penalize the poor guy trying to survive. The laws are generally written to protect the rich from retaliation by the poor.
I think that most would agree that if one can achieve the cute little house surrounded by a white picket fence and have his tummy full that he will be happier than the guy living under a bridge and getting his meals from rooting in a garbage can.
Keeping people hungry though makes them weak ( literally) and depressed so they are more likely to take a nap than to burn down your 10 room 8000 sq foot house.
Unfortunately, it’s pretty tough to find the “perfect” candidate. Especially since the person who’s perfect to me may not be so perfect to somebody else. They also tend to be close to impossible to get elected.

The corporate reviews were/are generally fairly comprehensive, covering attendance, issues about working with other people, technical competency, screw ups, they usually asked about what you though concerning working relationship with others and the company, and the customer. The job with the FRA was as a contractor monitor so it had a lot to do with how much you bugged the contractors employees, the bureaucracy, the budget, the federal management people.
The RayGun administration took all the fun out of that job.

The Bush administration is strange in that the different groups that support then would generally have far different views on a lot of the subjects that the Bushevics have promoted. How can the left wing talkers spend so much time talking about the Bush admin implying that society is supposed to hold politicians to some standard that lets them get away with things that would put Joe civilian in the Super Max.. All they can say is the way you fix the problem is to unelect them.. FLAC is free lossless compression, so if you choose that, you’ll need something that can play it (like foobar2000). Ogg Vorbis is an open source audio compression (like mp3). Foobar will play all of them.

Some one at work suggested to just quit paying your credit card bills.. They are non secured debt. If it costs you 30k to sue someone it will cost them 30k to sue you so if you owe them less than 30k.. The probability of them suing you is small.

The first item I ever wrote about Palestinians was around 1973, when I was just starting a press column for a New York weekly called the Village Voice. It concerned a story in the New York Times about a “retaliatory” raid by the Israeli air force, after a couple of Al Fatah guerillas had fired on an IDF unit. I’m not sure whether there any fatalities. The planes flew north and dumped high explosive on a refugee camp in Lebanon, killing a dozen or so men, women and children.
I wrote a little commentary, noting the usual lack of moral disquiet in the Times’ story about this lethal retaliation inflicted on innocent refugees. Dan Wolf, the Voice’s editor, called me in and suggested I might want to reconsider. I think, that first time, the item got dropped. But Dan’s unwonted act of censorship riled me and I started writing a fair amount about the lot of the Palestinians.
These were the days when Palestinians carried far less news value for editors than Furbish’s lousewort, and no politician ever held that this beleagured plant didn’t actually exist as a species, which is what Golda Meir, Israel’s prime minister said of Palestinians.
Back then you had to dig a little harder to excavate what Jewish Israelis were actually doing to Palestinians. Lay out the facts about institutionalized racism, land confiscations, torture and a hail of abuse would pour through the mailbox, as when I published a long interview in the Voice in 1980 with the late Israel Shahak, the intrepid professor from Hebrew University. . .

Professor Yakov Rabkin offers us an unusual book. It is not history, because it does not present a narrative of Jewish opposition to Zionism, nor a systematic analysis of its causes and development. It is not polemic–though Rabkin’s sympathies are clear, he presents the arguments of others far more than his own. It has too much anecdote and too many vignettes to count as philosophy; it is too philosophical to count as politics or sociology.
Jewish Opposition to Zionism not only defies categorization; it also belies its title–at least for most of us. There have been other books, collections of essays, on Jewish opposition to Zionism. They contain essays by such ‘modern’, secular Jews as Norman Finkelstein, Uri Avnery, Norton Mezvinsky, Israel Shahak, perhaps early works by Martin Buber or Alfred Lilienthal. Often as not they argue the cause of the Palestinians and appeal to such standards as international law, or the Geneva Convention, or the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
None of this will be found in Rabkin’s work, yet his title is appropriate. Rabkin brings us into the world of the anti-Zionist orthodox, for whom Zionism is the antithesis of Judaism and the destroyer of everything properly speaking Jewish. This may seem like an irrelevance today, or at least as a topic of very limited interest. By Rabkin’s own account, the numbers of these orthodox anti-Zionists are small, and their influence has declined steadily over the last century. To many they are a lunatic fringe; to most they are a force with little political future. But Rabkin teaches us about realities we could never understand without his help. He deepens–that’s utterly accurate here–our understanding of Zionism and Judaism; he reveals what the former has done to the latter; and in the end his message could not be more contemporary or more relevant to the present conflicts in the Middle East.
I had, when I was young, some religious instruction in Judaism–in a conservative, not a reform temple school. I grew up among Jews whose piety varied from, well, none, to extreme. I came away with a general picture of Judaism and Jewishness we all shared. God had promised Israel to us. Our people had been exiled for various sins–God seemed kind of picky about worshiping idols and such. Then we endured a series of catastrophes and evils, from the destruction of the temple to the medieval persecutions to the pogroms of Eastern Europe. These were dwarfed by a horror such as no other people had suffered–what I knew as Hitler’s Final Solution and what today get the pseudo-Biblical tag, The Holocaust. Yet the Jewish people arose from these ashes to found Israel, a refuge, a defense and, frankly, an instrument of vengeance against past and present enemies. We fought and fight for justice, for others as well as ourselves; we take pride in our strength; we stand on guard against the greatest evils, the evils of racial hate. We are reborn…

There are several ancient manuscripts of Revelation that show numbers such as 616 or 606 instead of 666. This very likely was due to a scribal error of some sort that somehow propagated down through additional copies as the scribe copied the manuscripts This is especially likely given that the original meaning of the number 666 was concerned with the numbers magical properties. The numbers 616 or 606 had no magical meaning of any significance,

When I got to El Paso I went into the truck stop and got myself a much needed shower after he shower I was reinvigorated and caught myself a ride to Juarez Mexico with a couple of other drivers courtesy of Aztec tours. Our driver drove us into Mexico where he proceeded to careen through the streets rather recklessly like he was driving in a NASCAR race. For some reason the mans driving didn’t bother me. We arrived safely at a Mexican bar where I paid 20 dollars for unlimited drinks. I got a seat by the stage where the most beautiful woman in Mexico was dancing. I sat there in awe watching her move to the music. One of the bargirls came and sat down with me. I asked her if she would like a cigarette she said yes so I pulled one out of the pack and gave her a light. She was a rather pretty girl in her mid 20’s with a pair of glasses that didn’t seem to fit her face right. Luckily she spoke English so we were able to have a decent conversation. She said she was 24 and had two children and had been working at the bar for four years. She was blowing smoke rings with her cigarette I asked her to show me how. She showed me and I started trying I still cant do it right but every once in a while I can get a few out. I kept trying to get her to dance on the stage but she insisted that she only dances in private and that she would love to show me eventually after having more than enough to drink I obliged and we went to a private room where she showed me her “dance”. It was shall we say interesting! We went back into the bar where the beautiful woman was dancing once again. They played a Mexican remix of 50 cent’s in da club I tried finding out the name of the person doing the remix but nobody seemed to know? A little later me and the other drivers left the club most were wishing they could stay forever I however had big plans for the weekend! Maron on Friday night at the U.C.B. I went to sleep anxiously awaiting my arrival in Los Angeles.
