Hey, Happy Hump Day. I have a playdate after work tonight, as I get to tag along at the Smithsonian Designer’s Group inaugural unofficial meeting at Fado’s Irish Pub. SInce nobody knows me, I can pretend that I actually know stuff, while hopefully not trying to prove how Irish I am by getting all sloppy drunk, droping my dice in puke, and cleaning them off by putting them in my mouth. I’ll have to wait ’til I get “home” to do that. Well, time to go check out last night’s election results, to see if Busby mananged a win, and if Marcy Winograd managed to beat Jane Harman in the primary. Then I’ll try and figure out why you’d want to remake a movie directed by Richard Donner and starring Gregory Peck, David Warner, and Lee Remick. 59 to go.
Well, looks like we’ve got another “moral victory” in the CA-50. I’m getting a little tired of moral victories, since that’s just another way of saying “loss.”
Looks like Jane Harman stomped Winograd, too.
OK, it’s 6-7-6. Where is everybody? Did everyone but PJ and me get raptured last night? :priest:
No one else is here at work yet, either, but I KNOW they didn’t go anywhere.
If the whole world went away last night, then I’m going home.

Terrible morning everyone
Its all Maddows, Frankens and Millers fault.. they arn’t funny:jason::gate::omg:
:fu: Maddow..you still arn’t funny..
:fu: Kent Jones you arn’t funny either
It was said that the passengers gathered in small groups, told crude jokes, sang songs, complained about the color of the paint and the arrangement of the deck chairs just before the Titanic went down.
๐ฎ Geez, Fred, you are might cheery this morning!! :billcat:
Need more :joe::joe::joe: before going off to the Salt Mines. Have a good 6/7/6, those of you who haven’t been raptured. :alc::nixon:
Aww. Busby lost…:( SOMEbody better make us laugh today…good morning anyway, sheeple… :sheep:
Today the Senate votes on the FMA.. To bad their mail room doesn’t accept boxes.. Since Wayne Allard told me he doesn’t represent people on the left and Salazar says he does but doesn’t I don’t think I will even try and do anything about this.. yet..
Home and settled. What enraging crap is going on in the world?
:yinyang:
SHUT UP Maddow .. you are not funny and the crap you tell us is totally useless. :fu::fu::fu::fu::gate::omg:
Well it doesn’t look like anything happened on 666.. The thugs are all still here and even more of them are in the house this morning..The senate is projected to not have enough votes to pass the FMA..
The world is just still all :fu::fu::fu:
Finally listening to Monday’s TMMS. :ear:
Hartman is pushing the RFK article as some kind of revelation about 2004 that is supposed to excite us to do something about the election this year..then he had Fitrakis (sp) on the Majority Report last night telling us how the thugs had totally screwed up Ohio and that tens of thousands more voters would not be able to vote this year. There was an article in the RockyMountainsnooze that said that some 20 states have raised the cost of recounting up to numbers like 100,000 dollars per precinct. That would have made Ohio cost a billion dollars or more to recount in 2004. He as usual didn’t explain what to do about all this crap.. The system is rigged:gate::omg::jason:
This morning I am going to do something apolitical but totally fun: work in my garden and get dirty! The flowers are about to bloom and the butterflies have been hanging around in anticipation. It is a clear, slightly warm, breezy morning here. All of my windows are open, the air smells sweet and the wind chime in the window is slightly tinkling.
I expect I will do some volunteering for the
Claire McCaskill campaign this fall. She is running for the senate seat of Jim Talent in Missouri. She won’t have any trouble in the urban areas so I expect it will be a get out the vote effort here. Prospects look good.
FK, I emailed my sister to see if she has a better recollection about our encounters with raw milk at our grandparents. She remembers everything! ๐
Its supposed to be 87 here today.. The Denver water board which provides water to most of the outlying ( because they are no longer outlying) communities says they have plenty of water this summer but you have to be a thug to afford to water your yard.. The choice is to water ,eat and/or buy meds, what do you leave out..?? A lot of brown lawns so far this year around here.
So Busby’s loss is being called a “moral victory”? I thought we were told we had to win that seat to get momentum or whatever. :fustrate:
Good Morning from Albuquercy. :joe:

Good morning Krista :joe: (green tea)
The realists have been warning us that the incumbent will win 90% of the time even if he/she is up on charges..I personally don’t want to hear that without a solution being presented. Elections may not be the method by which we take our country back..:gate::omg::jason:
Good morning Krista, Andy, Fred…”dancing bear demagogue” a little aliteration there. ๐
Who is calling Busby’s loss a moral victory? Busby’s loss sucks, plain and simple.
I’m suspicious of narrow losses anymore :paranoid:
Unfortunately in American politics close is not a result that accomplishes anything especially when it comes to getting rid of these thugs. The election in California just shows that the people are still fast asleep, on autopilot. This result will depress a lot of the dems, and tick a lot of them off too.. I however, don’t think handing out leaflets or going door to door is the solution.
I haven’t seen a figure on the turn out percentages in the California election.. The Calif talkers on the weekend were saying there was zero, zip, nada, interest in this election.
So what happened on Dobbs last night..?? Did Randi pull out her chainsaw or Chicago piano and let them have it or did she just start yelling at them and over them.. or did she just turn bright red.. a quality that’s hard to appreciate on the radio.

The pre-school initiative for all got hammered too even if it only wanted to tax the rich a little bit.
EXACTLY!
Plus the Dems need a smooth-running uniform message that will give people a reason to push Democrat, not simply shy from the rethugs. When the hell are they going to figure this out? I’m tired of writing & raging & calling….guess we’ll have to lose again and again and again before they figure it out.

the teenager hit a deer last night – or rather, a deer ran in to his car last night. Pretty much took out the passenger door and blew out the headlight. Teenager is a-ok. Car is drive-able but can’t use the passenger door or headlight. (car isn’t worth much because I wasn’t about to put a teen in something nice and fast – he’s in an old Bonneville – LOTS of metal and has 150,000 miles on it). ….SUMMER JUST STARTED for heavens sake and he’s already gotten in to two messes…. ARGH!!!!!!!
No No No We can’t lose in November.. The dems either win or the whole Fing mess has got to go away..
Sorry to hear about your kid FK .. One of my relatives ran into a deer or visa versa on his road bike.. The bike was all bent up, the deer was dead but he some how only broke his leg. The Dept. of Wildlife didn’t let him keep the deer that was the biggest disappointment.
Once again Hartman is expounding on RFK’s article.. He says we should be mad as hell. most of us are mad as hell without his article.. Doesn’t he get the point that maybe the people need some ideas of what to do apart from voting for dems in November.. ?? If they steal another election one can either bend over and take it or do like the Iraqi’s do.. The second idea seems to be working better than our electoral system is right now.
:joe:Hey, Maron’s blog is up early, I think
but fred, there isn’t a cohesive message that is being repeated ad nauseam and that is what has to happen, in my humble opinion. the voices here on the internets need to get out. Maybe we all just need to buy bullhorns and attach them to our vehicles – kind of what King Kong said was happening in his neck of the world…. i dunno, just frustrated.
thanks for your sympathy with the teen. your relative sounds lucky indeed.
Isi, have fun in your garden!
ROSE TALK: I saw a picture of a humdinger of a rose and had trouble tracking it down; it’s called ‘Bella Donna’ and this is about the best description of it. I don’t have a lot of roses, but this one looks fabulous – especially since peonies are my favorite flower and that’s what this looks like in some respects. Don’t know how it would do in my zone 8a, though. [too warm here for peonies, btw. ๐ )
Sure, I’ll just “talk” around people too. It’s cool. Whatever.
I’m sorry. I’m just tired. Time to make like a tree and, uh…yeah. Later:peace:
sorry trav!!!! i didn’t “see” you there…blindly posted, got in to the rose thing and then went off on to the politico web sites…
gotta go, now though. didn’t mean to hurt your feelings, buddy.
Well Hartman is off in the ozone some place going over the RFK debockle so I turned him off then went to Franken who is now or is it still in denial that Bush has committed any high crimes or misdemeanors.. Some left wing talkers today just slightly left of Rush and Hannity.:barf::mad::rant1::jason::gate::omg:

Pretty soon the whole world will be hanging Americans from trees, light poles, etc ( except us that is)
FarmerKat I know the dems have no cohesive message. They are afraid of the ticked off voters, the pending economic collapse , the thugs , other dems, and their corporate paymasters. Perhaps if they had not been viewed as just rethug lites for the last 10 years or so they would have a better reputation with the voters. Remember the reason the thugs were able to gain both hoses of congress in the first place is because the dems were framed to be as corrupt as the thugs appear to be now. :gate::omg::jason::rant1:
Awww .. Randi went off Dobbs last night in tears.. She can’t handle a person on person frontal assault ( Kevin get your mind out of the gutter). The folks at DU thought she did an excellent job.. just got yelled at to much.. :-(:spank::gate::omg:

MSRNC reported the following
With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Bilbray had 56,016 votes or 49.5 percent. Busby trailed with 51,202 votes or 45 percent.
The numbers make no sense… MSRNC making up election results now. ????
RawStory took the Busby loss thing off their web site :omg::omg:
They put some KOS propaganda in its place however.. No one is reporting this “minor” discrepancy so far.

A Tancredo boomlet/bandwagon?
Tuesday, June 6 at 1:04 PM
Rep. Tom Tancredo won a GOP Lincoln Day Dinner presidential straw poll in Macomb County, Mich. (suburban Detroit) Tuesday night (Human Events via Drudge Report).
Tancredo got 18 percent of 325 votes, beating Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Condi Rice, John McCain and others. Tancredo also won the monthly Human Events presidential straw poll, edging Condi Rice.

FK, here is a rose similar to the one you mentioned above. And, it is listed for zones 5-10. Heirloom Roses is where I bought my New Dawn Rose.
Anbody familiar with Consortium News? They have an article tearing apart the democrats for losing elections. Don’t know if they are legit or have a bias.
Robert Perry is the owner/operator of Consortium news.. He has some credibility and does not appear to Reich wing. Nicki needs to provide input..
Robert Parry broke many of the Iran-Contra stories in the 1980s for the Associated Press and Newsweek. His new book, Secrecy & Privilege: Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq, can be ordered at secrecyandprivilege.com. It’s also available at Amazon.com, as is his 1999 book, Lost History: Contras, Cocaine, the Press & ‘Project Truth.’
I did some checking, looks like Consortium News is A-OK.
Busby was a DLC hack so no surprise there.
Meanwhile, Yale caved into the neocons and is not hiring Prof. Juan Cole: http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2006/06/05/cole
Informed Comment is just about the best source of Middle East news there is, as the major media is scared shitless of aipac and the likud wackos like Horowitz.
Just sent Cole an e mail at his umich.edu address, basically saying that a Yale that accepts GW Bush and rejects Cole isn’t worth bothering about, and he graciously said thanks.
Proud to be a Fordham Grad today!
This is the web site Rhodes/Miller talked about on her show today.. PJ might put a link to this on the web page.
The groups in Colo seem to be somewhat disorganized at the moment.

It is kind of interesting that KLSD ( the AAR affiliate) has the highest listenership in the San Diego market .. I would think that with all the military in the San Diego area liberals would few and far between.. apparently not.

:omg:Results of Close Busby/Bilbray U.S. House Special Election in Doubt!
Race to Replace Randy ‘Duke’ Cunningham in San Diego Was Run on Hackable Diebold Voting Machines, Kept Unsecured at Poll Worker Houses Overnight Before the Election!
To be clear, at this hour, we have no evidence to show that Democrat Francine Busby, running in yesterday’s special run-off election in San Diego against Republican Brian Bilbray to replace the disgraced Republican Randy “Duke” Cunningham for the U.S. House (CA-50) race actually won it.
Neither do we have evidence to believe that Bilbray actually won it.
We do, however, have copious and documented evidence to suggest there is no reason in the world to have any faith that Bilbray won the race…

I don’t believe I’ve introduced everyone to the next representative from California district 49, right next door to 50. Folks, meet Jeeni Criscenzo.

Jeeni worked on the Kucinich campaign in 2004 when she lived in the Tampa Bay area. Now she’s working to make the San Diego area safe for the good guys. (And gals.)

CHICAGO — Chicago Public Schools formally released one of its most dire budgets in a decade Tuesday, a $5.3 billion spending plan that eliminates more than 2,000 jobs and slashes programs for special education and high schools.
Nearly all of the lost jobs are based in the schools, including 950 special education aides and teachers. Another 600 teaching posts were cut because of projected enrollment declines. The district also eliminated 70 central office jobs, froze administrative salaries and cut $6 million in consultant costs.
Besides the cuts, the district will close the deficit by raising property taxes by $55 million. It was the 10th time that Mayor Richard Daley authorized the maximum increase in the 12 years since he took control of the school system. The district also will spend $75 million from its cash reserves.

=====================
If you need teachers in your district you might advertise in the Tribune.
This is an on going problem with this system. Once these jobs are gone they will have to look high and low to find people to replace those who left if they ever do. That’s a lot of jobs lost.

heard the miller interview on the rrs. Until Rethugs lose because of the machines you will not see an outcry. Repukes have no empathy so the trauma has to actually happen to them before their brains can compute the possibilty. If the 50th is overturned, THEN you’ll see the outcry.
