Hey, happy Solstice everybody – it’s the longest day of the year. I predict that if the Marc Maron Show isn’t syndicated, the days will begin to get shorter, eventually throwing us into complete lack of daylight. So, if you want to save the world eternal darkness, make sure you call or write the good folks over at AAR, and ask them how things are coming along. They’ll worry if they don’t hear from you.
Saw a Land Rover parked on H Street here in DC yesterday (‘cuz one thing you really need here in the land of the secodn largest mass transit system in the US is a good off-road vehicle) with PA plates and a Santorum 2006 bumber sticker (not on the bumper, either). So, congrats, Ricky, looks like you’ve got one vote – assuming they get back to PA by Novemeber. After you lose, the only thing I ask is that you stay to the south of NY, and keep the hell away from my dog.
Speaking of Santorum and dogs, it’s hump day. So, everybody go out and hump. But before you get too busy humping, take a minute to help them save progressive talk radio in Cincinnati by signing their petition. There aren’t many places where progressive radio is needed more than Ohio (especially now that WKRP is off the air).

North American Union Would Trump U.S. Supreme Court
by Jerome R. Corsi
Posted Jun 19, 2006
The Bush Administration is pushing to create a North American Union out of the work on-going in the Department of Commerce under the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America in the NAFTA office headed by Geri Word. A key part of the plan is to expand the NAFTA tribunals into a North American Union court system that would have supremacy over all U.S. law, even over the U.S. Supreme Court, in any matter related to the trilateral political and economic integration of the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Right now, Chapter 11 of the NAFTA agreement allows a private NAFTA foreign investor to sue the U.S. government if the investor believes a state or federal law damages the investor’s NAFTA business.
Under Chapter 11, NAFTA establishes a tribunal that conducts a behind closed-doors “trial” to decide the case according to the legal principals established by either the World Bank’s International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes or the UN’s Commission for International Trade Law. If the decision is adverse to the U.S., the NAFTA tribunal can impose its decision as final, trumping U.S. law, even as decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. U.S. laws can be effectively overturned and the NAFTA Chapter 11 tribunal can impose millions or billions of dollars in fines on the U.S. government, to be paid ultimately by the U.S. taxpayer.h ****American Union Would Trump U.S. Supreme Court****

AAR losing another station
Hi Guys,
My name is Jenny and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and listen to Mike on WCKY 1530 AM. I have created a petition to try to let the directors of the station know that we ARE listening in hopes that they won’t trash the progressive talk format. Was hoping you could maybe encourage people to come and sign the petition? It is located here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/251565251 . Any help you could give in getting this petition out there would be greatly appreciated. It has been said that Cincinnati is a ‘haven for neocons’, but there are plenty of us good liberals who are fighting! We need a voice on the airwaves, especially Mike’s! Many thanks, Jen

NYT reviews last nights PBS documentary about Cheney
‘The Dark Side’ Studies When the C.I.A. Fought Cheney, and Cheney Won
In the cliquish, cutthroat high school that is the Bush administration, the Central Intelligence Agency casts itself as Carrie, the disparaged and bullied outsider. And like that ill-used heroine of Brian De Palma’s 1976 horror movie, the C.I.A. wants revenge, not by telekinetic power, but through public television.
“The Dark Side,” a “Frontline” documentary on PBS tonight, chronicles Vice President Dick Cheney’s campaign to wrest control of the intelligence community and hype the case for invading Iraq. It’s a hair-raising tale of political infighting, but it has been told many times, particularly by “Frontline,” which has produced several similar documentaries about the ill-prepared rush to war.
“The Dark Side” is so intent on hammering home how Mr. Cheney twisted arms — and the facts — that it allows the C.I.A. to whitewash its own failings.
The documentary’s assertions about Mr. Cheney are not in doubt. Few dispute that once the White House decided to oust Saddam Hussein, George J. Tenet, the C.I.A. director, fell into line (“slam-dunk”), and skeptical State Department and agency analysts were sidelined and ignored.

I recorded Frontline last night, but haven’t watched it yet.
I think that unless you are a national left sided figure that gets your face on TV a lot that the Reich will completely ignore you. If someone was routinely leading hundreds or thousands of people into the streets who were breaking the Reich’s “stuff” they would be quick to put you away.
The problem is mostly from the left who observe any proactive activity as being Reich wing. Liberal/progressives are nice people who don’t advocate direct action and don’t yell at Rachel Maddow, Mark Riley and Thom Hartman.
Indeed the American left is being framed as having to be “Good Americans”

Good doggie.
Might have to wait for Part II for that one, Kev.
I sent out an email to the several dozen people in our UJP group last Sunday asking if they listen to liberal talk radio or if they perhaps used to listen but stopped for some reason and to explain what that reason was.. So far no one has responded.. maybe they only read their email once a month ??:omg::doh::fustrate:
I thought I would post their comments and send them to AAR and Hartman.
The general feeling I had was that they listened for a while but found the stuff they heard to upsetting, they saw all this info without any solutions as an act of futility.
Doesn’t everything in Bush world have a happy ending..beginning… middle ??:eek::yuck: 🙁

People in New Orleans know.
Travis is right i think I pointed out that taking my cardboard tube and poster board sigh out and walking along the street will not attract anyone.. Taking by assault rifle out and firing a clip into the air would attract a lot more.. mostly the members of the SWAT team. Even with our army in charge in IRAQ a small number of the populace are causing a great deal of disruption. Most major cities have small wars between gangs and between gangs and the police going on all the time but the police seldom win. There are neighborhoods in Chicago and LA the police and emergency services won’t even go into at night. The difference being that the gangs don’t typically disappear politicians or take the fight to the rich peoples neighborhoods.
Couple of routers in TX more or less down at the moment, and one in MD has a pretty high response time. You can check it out at the Internet Traffic Report (North America).
Alright, this is going to sound stupid, but what does a router in Texas have to do with checking my email in alaska. and how many other people are affected by this thing being down?
:paranoid:maybe thats why half life 2 is running slow!
It might have something to do with it, or it might have nothing. Try doing this. Go to start>run and type in “cmd” (without the quotes). In the box that pops up, type in:
tracert [ip address or host name]
For example, for, say, cnn:
tracert cnn.com
And you’ll see all the hops in between your computer and where you want to go, plus how long it takes in ms. And if it gets really slow or craps out along the way, you can see where.
Via CNN:
Thats cool it took 6 hops to get out of the building another 9 to msn
So with all those hops and firewalls how does one tell where the original packet came from ??
Is it a case of bad timing, or is it a little fishy that just a week before the documentary critical of GM, Who Killed the Electric Car? is to be released that one of the few examples of the EV1 electric car in existence has been removed from the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History by its curators? Prototypes of the EV1, called an “engineering marvel,” were the only mass-produced electric vehicles ever to hit the highways and byways of the US, and the leased cars were inexplicably removed from circulation and destroyed by GM.
The EV1 will be replaced at the Smithsonian by an SUV, the robotic VW Touareg designed by Stanford University. Is it a coincidence that GM is one of the largest financial supporters of the Smithsonian, and its EV1 was mysteriously removed from that museum on the eve of the premiere of this GM-critical documentary? Hmm. Just asking. – Charlie White

Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) has introduced Amendment 4267 to the Defense Authorization Bill – to encourage dubya to “unsign” the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, opening the way to resume nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site and signal to other states that they should begin preparations to resume testing also.
In other words, the Bush Administration’s foreign policy will continue to be one of thumbing its nose at the rest of the world, withdrawing from treaties, and planning to build new nuclear weapons.

Just when you think that there’s nothing about Bush that could possibly shock you, from the Siskind book:
“an unnamed CIA briefer who flew to Bush’s Texas ranch during the scary summer of 2001, amid a flurry of reports of a pending al-Qaeda attack, to call the president’s attention personally to the now-famous Aug. 6, 2001, memo titled “Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US.” Bush reportedly heard the briefer out and replied: “All right. You’ve covered your ass, now.”

They are RADICALS and I am sick of them.

WASHINGTON – At least one and possibly both of the soldiers who were mutilated and killed in Iraq last weekend was beheaded, a U.S. military official said Wednesday.
The description by the official, who was in Washington, confirmed fears that were raised by other U.S. and Iraqi officials who have said the mens’ bodies showed sign of brutal treatment.
The official requested anonymity because the final report on the bodies’ conditions has not been formally released

AT&T rewrites rules: Your data isn’t yours
David Lazarus
Wednesday, June 21, 2006
AT&T has issued an updated privacy policy that takes effect Friday. The changes are significant because they appear to give the telecom giant more latitude when it comes to sharing customers’ personal data with government officials.
The new policy says that AT&T — not customers — owns customers’ confidential info and can use it “to protect its legitimate business interests, safeguard others, or respond to legal process.”
The policy also indicates that AT&T will track the viewing habits of customers of its new video service — something that cable and satellite providers are prohibited from doing.
Moreover, AT&T (formerly known as SBC) is requiring customers to agree to its updated privacy policy as a condition for service — a new move that legal experts say will reduce customers’ recourse for any future data sharing with government authorities or others.

Dear Archimedes Movement Supporter,
I’ve committed myself and the Archimedes Movement to building meaningful opportunities to discuss the growing concern over our health care crisis. Over the next few months, we’ll continue to hold regional forums throughout Oregon to hear your thoughts on what we want our health care system to look like, the values we want it to reflect and the outcomes we want it to produce.
The Archimedes Movement has scheduled Archimedes regional forums in the following communities. If you have family, friends, or co-workers in any of these regions please forward this email to them, inviting them to attend.
Roseburg
Sunday, June 25
6 to 8 p.m.
Roseburg Senior High School
Grants Pass
Monday, June 26
3 to 5 p.m.
Anne Basker Auditorium
Medford/Ashland
Tuesday, June 27
7 to 9 p.m.
Smullin Center, Rogue Valley Medical Center Campus
At these events, I will outline how our current health care system is built on a fatally flawed foundation and discuss policy objectives of the Archimedes Movement. Everyone attending will have a chance to offer input on a new health system, helping to design an equitable and sustainable health care system that is accessible to all.
We are also looking for local leaders in each community to facilitate ongoing discussions. If you want to volunteer to lead a local Archimedes chapter please let us know. (You can reply to this email or chat with us at the one of the meetings.) By the end of the Summer, we want to have local meetings happening all around the state, where we can seek feedback on critical questions that will shape the design of the new system. Examples may include questions about mental and behavioral health, end of life care and others. Help us build a network of small group discussions that will lend shape to the design of a new health care system while it builds and supports community collaborations.
Thanks for your support,
John Kitzhaber

Security, Temp Workers and, Yes, Oil
Elite Logic at the Border
By GREG MOSES
Just as PNAC or the Project for the New American Century helped us to think about underlying motives for the public shams of the war on terrorism, so might CNAC or the Compact for North American Competitiveness help us to think about drama at the border between Mexico and the USA. Already CNAC’s preferences for “border security” and “temporary workers” have attracted friends with clout, but did you know that Mexican oil is also on the agenda?
Shortly after last year’s Waco Summit brought together three North American heads of state, Bush, Fox, and Martin, a CNAC proposal was released by the US Council of the Mexico-US Business Committee (MEXUS), an organization which predates the Council of the Americas (COA) to which it now belongs.
The April 2005 report is signed by COA heavyweights Robert Mosbacher and James Jones, backed by a leadership team composed of ChevronTexaco, Eastman Kodak, First Data, Ford Motor, Kissinger McLarty, Manatt Jones Global Strategies, Merck, MetLife, Miller and Chevalier, Nextel, and Proctor and Gamble.
In a preface to the report, MEXUS takes a lot of credit for creating NAFTA or the North American Free Trade Agreement; brags about publishing “NAFTA Works”; and promises to maintain leadership for “increasing competitiveness” in the unified North American bloc…

What happened, why did they try to frame you? I never was arrested, but I was fined, warned, stuff like that, and threatened, sexually harrassed to a point as well (verbally). So it’s pretty fucked up what cops can do, especially if you hang around with the “wrong” people.
Democrat Party. Yeah! I high-Jacked the Democrat Party.
I heard that, what a smarmy asshole… 😕
they think they’re “insulting” Democrats by using that phrase. Oh and the “all you guyz are communists” and their definition of socialism and communism, isn’t that fun? These people are so brainy.
I had run-ins with campus security. (We called them Security Gestapo–not complete hyperbole.)
It sounds much worse as for police abuse in Bronx/NJ than over here. I’m sure Black folks here have stories to tell, though, that would rival your descriptions.
oh I’m sure I haven’t seen anything that bad compared to what some people go through. I’ve just been on the edge of things, really, but close enough to at least see that racism exists, and how people in authority are wrapped up on perpertrating it
What is with the trespassing charges? Sounds like some volatile political situation.
The “Democrat Party” moniker is a Limbaugh and epigones smear.
Yeah. How clever…trying to be funny. Conservatives “think” they have a sense of humor….
The Mayor of Portland is the former police chief. He recently told the local FBI to back off. He has a lot of support from progressives.
Suckas….
hehe, “war of one-liners,” I wonder if we’re going to be accused of that again? :rofl2:
I bought a new Soprano Recorder. I am practicing on it.
ohhh cool! I wish we had an emo with musical notes…
What are you playing?
“Vermont Counterpoint”.
I put some of “Vermont Counterpoint” on the rehearsal tape I sent.
ok, I didn’t know the name of everything on the tape.
The piece I was riffing on at the beginning is “Vermont Counterpoint”.
ok…I just put the tape on actually to try to identify it 😉
I just bought Smedley Butler’s book. Feral House Publishing puts out a good edition of “War is a Racket”.
Yeah, I wanna get that one
:love::bow::omg:
the Barnes and Noble near me has crap, I couldn’t even find F.U.B.A.R. there 🙁
Oh really???
:knit:
Everyone here knows this, but it’s a good read anyway courtesy of the Smirking One.
Hope all had a GREAT SOLSTICE:!:
I just missed “Morningstar” on Letterman RATS 😳
