Monday again. Let’s see, what’s new? Italy won the world cup, which most of the world gives a shit about. More people killed in Iraq. Okay, that’s not really new. And this is the beginning of the end of the Marc Maron Show, which really sucks. It’s a shame we can’t all call in and say goodbye. I guess we could all call AAR and politely tell them that we are not, in fact delighted. Unless Marc makes an announcement this week that actually delights us – and him. And Jim. Anyhow, have a happy Monday.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Jim Earl!

They say Colorado has three seasons July August and winter 🙄
Mountains, showers, thunder, fog and snow above 11,500 feet. Tonight, decreasing showers, cloudy with areas of valley fog. Lows in the 40s.
All the streams have been coming up .. Boulder country is now under a flash flood warning..

Sounds like Syracuse, Fred. We have two seasons – Winter, and Construction.
The Colo state legislature went in to melt down over the immigration legislation. Maybe the immigrants will be safe for another year.
:omg:A high-stakes battle over illegal immigration ended its fourth day Sunday with Republicans offering a compromise on a key bill, but an increasing number of lawmakers say the special session is a waste of time and money.
snip
Some lawmakers like few of the proposals they see, from either Democrats or Republicans.
“They’re stupid,” said Sen. Dan Grossman, D-Denver. “We’re going to take this invented issue and crack down on poor people and on businesses.”
Sen. Dave Owen, R-Greeley, called the session a “joke,” saying proposals that target employers do little to stem the flow of illegal immigration.
The bickering that has been the hallmark of the special session intensified Sunday, with Democrats complaining of racial overtones and Republicans saying nothing can be done on the issue with Democrats in charge.
Some lawmakers renewed their criticism of Republican Gov. Bill Owens.
“Owens had eight years to fix this problem, and on the eve of the death of his administration, he decides to take this up,” said Rep. Dorothy Butcher, D-Pueblo. “This is nothing but a bunch of political hype.”

ARREST! IMPEACH! VIGILANCE!
A lady called into Laura Flanders show last night and said that if the dems don’t take at least one house we have to revolt.. Flanders said ” I’m glad you said that and not me” tick tick tick
:gate::omg::jason::fist:
The dems have to know that they are in danger of experiencing a real :gate::omg: if they don’t get their act together.:jason::jason:
I have written several intense answers re #9 but I think I will just say
ARREST! IMPEACH! VIGILANCE!
I was thinking about the “liberal media” talking about not taking back at least one house and I think they are trying to see what kind of militancy is out there and letting their callers call for an uprising where they are not allowed to do that… unfortunately most of the their callers are lying around the pool having a tall one and don’t give a dam.. A revolution after all would disrupt the delivery of their dividend checks.. if there were still such things as dividend checks.:shock::blech:
I don’t think they have a clue. I think all of this has them very confused – they’ve been used to playing a game by a certain set of rules (and losing at it for quite a while now), and they’re just too stubborn or obtuse (or both) to figure it out. They are very irritated by the rabble (that’d be the voters) suddenly insisting they should have a voice. Hopefully there can be an injection of fresh blood – people that owe their elections to the people, and not the DLC, DCCC, or asswipes like Danny Goldberg.
Ewwww music radio on both ends .. Mark is running out of time here :gate::omg: :jason::jason:
The congress is isolating themselves behind email filters and phone screeners a lot more than they used to be. I think there are a lot more people watching the circus on C-span these days ( that happens when you have 14% unemployment).. The lack of representation is making a lot of people quite unhappy.. the possibility of being rounded up and deported is bothering even more..and those people are not lying around the pool.. and haven’t become fat and happy either.. :jason::jason::jason:
I wonder if Mark and Maddow know what’s going on with Marc. There’s been so much speculation about AAR wanting Marc to come back to NYC and maybe recreate the morning show, but of course it could be something totally different. I wonder if they want to try a three-way in the morning?
Being on radio Marc could probably work out of his closet with a ISDN phone connection.. I don’t see why he has to be in any particular place. Springer is in Ohio, Elliot was in San Diego.. Maybe it;s just a money thing between Marc and who ever.. He could probably make a lot more money just doing comedy on the club circuit.
AAR probably doesn’t want to pay for the ISDN line, plus an engineer/producer on both ends. They have to pay for Franken ad Malloy, and that’s probably all they have in their budget.
If Delay runs for congress and is reflected they need to think of calling in a air-strike on his district.. Birds of a feather tend to flock together..:tinfoil: Like I said rethugs are typically identifed by a lavish life style with no visable means of support..:yuck::eek::shock:
I wonder if they want to try a three-way in the morning?

A three-way with two married guys and a lesbian? Now THERE’S something you don’t see every day.
:rofl2:
I have been to a couple of college radio stations and the DJ does everything.. All this support staff stuff is a ABC, CBS radio kind of thing..:omg::eek::shock:
I feel the conservatives have made this society so fragil and poor that people are just trying to survive. There is not enough time in the day to get the mandatory work done, a revolution I fear is not to be.
Massive executions in Baghdad:omg::omg::omg::-(:cry::-(
ARREST! IMPEACH! VIGILANCE!
They always have at least a producer. And all of these shows have writers, which cost money, and bookers, and all that kinda stuff. I mean, it’s just AAR, but it is supposed to be a prefessional radio station. Maybe that’s what they want Marc to do – try to create a quality rado program with no producer, no writers, no booker. And Marc has to crank the generator by hand.
:tinfoil:I’m pretty sure Marc’s show is planned, written and produced by just Marc and Jim.. Rhodes said once she only had three people on her staff and just recently she said she lost one person. Franken on the other hand has something like 12 people.. Malloy is just himself and his wife.
Oh, no, all those jokes are written by other people. They pay by the joke. Writers include Bruce Cherry, Spencer Dobson, Mike Ferrucci, Ray James, Kent Jones,
Kevin Kataoka, Barry Lank, and Steve Rosenfield. Plus Iris Bahr (Svetlana). If you look at his weekend pst thread, he says “You can suggest stuff for next week but our resources are limited. Like, if there are bits we haven’t done since the beginning of TMMS, there’s probably a reason.”
It may seem like it’s just two guys riffing, but there’s a lot that goes into it. All that stuff costs money.
Plus, he has a booker for guests. And they have a producer. Randi uses a ton of stuff written by other people. I guess she had to can two or three writers, but still, much of what she talks about is written (realized that when I went to see Barry Crimmins a while back).
I agree it is quite doubtful that millions of people will end up in the streets of DC for weeks at a time. There will be no organized revolution but an American version of Iraq. People will go to work come home eat dinner and go blow up a police station instead of going bowling. Once the command and control is knocked out they will go out after dinner and roust the rich out of their pools and :gate::omg::jason: them.. There will probably be some nice fire fighta between the resistance the the paid security guards. The lack of stability will cause foreign investors to flee the stock market.. transportation will be disrupted, the lights will go out.. and everyone will just be that much more ticked off.
I think people would take to the streets for weeks here, but only if the media fairly and accurately reports the story. If the media had reported the truth about 2000 or 2004, I think the streets would have been packed. But when the media ignores the crime and gives only the “sore loser” spin to the story, people settle down in front of American Idol (or is it American Idle?) and zone out.
So when you have a comedy act on the road you still have all that infrastructure..:?::?: One would think that AAR would provide central booking at least. Maybe the comedy aspects of his show make it unattractive unless it has a huge audience.:?::?::eek::shock:
Well, when he said something to the effect of “they made me an offer but I don’t know if I can do it,” many assumed that meant they wanted him to move back to NYC. But it could also mean they said, we want you do a show, but your budget is gonna be shit. It might be he doesn’t feel he can do the kind of show he wants to be associated with for a really low budget.
Either way, I’ll really miss hearing these guys every day.
UPDATE #2
Another email from John Gorenfeld
Hi Andrew,
Sure thing…my friend thinks it might be like one of those magazine subscription scams, where kids are overworked after being promised certain things they don’t get…
John
Well I guess this a little better, these kids don’t seem to be involved with Moonies.
A bunch of people demonstrating in their own cities will only intimidate there local politicians and police. There are lots of places where that would dramatically suppressed. The “government” in DC needs to see there is some penalty for their actions. They would just cordon off DC with private security guards and the military and operate their travesty from their own form of a green zone.:paranoid::rant1:
No, the people would need to fill the streets and shut down commerce. Money is all that matters.
The more we talk about the “revolution” the more I see why Fascist states have only typically ended because of a war which they lost.. The people don’t really have the ability to deliver the kind of blow necessary to end the regime. As long as the power and water stay on in the green zone who gives a dam about the rest of the place.:rant1:
A national total disruption of commerce will be very difficult to accomplish. Even in the the best situation only 6-10% of the population will be involved. ( 28 million people is a lot but distributed all over the country would look like no one was involved) If you stopped delivery of coal and oil to major metro areas store shelves would start being emptied and the lights may go off but you would find that these self imposed sanctions would only screw the normal people because the rich would find ways to use their money to outflank it. Its hard to tell who’s side the masses would be on. :rant1:
Sometimes there is so much “tragedy” it is hard to endure. We had thousands in certain protests and now it is down to a few hundred. Sorry to sound so glum; therefore, back to “reading, writing, and plotting”.
ARREST! IMPEACH! VIGILANCE!
A young lady in the UPJ group pointed out that doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result was an an act of insanity.. That finally soaked in so there will probably not be any more demonstrations just to protest. If there are lots of people in the streets again the sun will be blotted out by the smoke.:shock::yuck:
Sounds like what Einstein would say 😉 =

Hello Oregon friends of Into the Blue!
The website (http://www.intotheblue.org/) has a new look, a Border Ruffian essay by well-known writer (and Into the Blue Board member) Mary Kay Blakely and a blog (which will have news from the upcoming Boone County Democratic Day and caucus—want to know how the issues are really debated in a swing county in a red state? Stay tuned).
I just returned from the Bay Area, where in addition to raising over $3,000 to develop outreach materials, I met with folks at the Rockridge Institute and the Tides Center. Excitement about what we’re up to is spreading. In the words of Daniel Galvin, author of a recent New York Times editorial on Democratic infrastructure, “Into the Blue is exactly the kind of innovative party-building program the Democrats need.”
Remember, money raised in San Francisco and elsewhere goes to developing outreach materials and replicating the partnership program; money for the Boone County Voter ID database comes from Portland—from you! Organizers are working on two Portland events currently (description and contact info below), but we need support now. A $50.00 contribution from each person on this list would bump us past the threshold to register the Portland/Boone Co. account with the FEC—and once registered we can put up an online contribution page through ActBlue. Let’s get that done before the first of the two events listed below so that folks just hearing about the project then will be able to contribute online!! Please print out the attached form and send it in with your check today!
Upcoming Events:
Author Event: Lisa Hoashi (lhoashi@yahoo.com) is working with Tin House to organize a Progressive Reading Series Event in August. If you don’t know about this project, check it out at http://litpac.org/events.html
Family Bike Ride: Meg Stalnaker (smithstal@earthlink.net) is organizing this event, also in August. Volunteers needed!
All best,

Hey Portlanders! Did anybody notice that the bastards have razed the venerable Corno’s Fruit Stand on MLK. I thought that Portland preserved its landmarks. Not in this case, however. I believe Gus Van Sant mentioned Corno’s in one of his movies. My stepfather used to go there once a week when he had his store.

Is there any political force here in the US capable of hastening the end of th[e Iraqi War] tragedy. None is visible. The Republicans are tub-thumping, as their best tactic for self-preservation in the fall elections. As a party, with a very few honorable exceptions, the Democrats are doing likewise. The peace movement is ineffective. There is no light at the end of the tunnel.

and how do we regulate them liberal government! not protesting the damn kfc!
Hello all, finally just caught up with reading all today’s posts, I like to be all caught up with everything written before I post; it’s an ocd thing.
Anyway, Sean and fellow :sheep:ple, I have my own reasons for not liking PETA, despite the fact that I’m vegan. They’re way too glizty-glam commerce-crazy for my taste. Nothing personal against the beautiful Pam Anderson, and I know from my fellow vegans that there’s an audience for the peta glam scene. They hold these ridiculous dress up Hollywood fundraisers and raise big bucks, and get big celeb endorsements like *Sir* Paul McCartney, thank you veddy much. Ingrid Newkirk, peta’s president or executive director, loves car racing and came off in a New Yorker interview awhile back as a smarmy diletantte. That could have been editorial bias, so I try to give the benefit of the doubt. But sports car racing – some environmentalist, eh? Many other more grassroots group exist that I give my money to when I can afford it, like veganoutreach, veganaction, farm animal advocacy campaigns, etc. Peta will never get a subscription from me. That all said, the fact is that, thanks to all that money they raise, peta produces the best glossy handbills on all kinds of horrendous factory farming and fishing conditions.
In answer to your question, Sean: having a more ‘liberal’ regime in power will undoubtedly help roll back some of the more flagrant regulatory dismantling that the Bush crime family have committed. So that would help a few more animals. But unelss Americans’ and Europeans’ gargantuan consumption of animal flesh and products doesn’t diminish, the actual number of ‘farm’ (using that word loosely) animals saved will be negligable at best. The dairy and meat lobbies stoke the demand, we as good consumers comply. Demand for animal flesh and products (dairy, leather, etc.) must diminish by a great degree to yield any sizable saving of non-human animal population. Minus that demand, the critters now birthed for nothing more than ‘food’ (sic) production should diminish greatly in population. The only reason we have so many tortured critters to begin with is because of human demand to consume them.
FREE THE ANIMALS NOW:fist:
Yeah!
Cows with guns…
GO VEGAN http://www.goveganradio.com
We need a real government .. not one made up of a totally corporate and a more or less corporate party.:gate::omg::jason::jason::jason:
gah sure janice now you show up on the blog! i was in san fran two days ago!
Fred, I’m not following your reasoning here:
If one actually regulated them they could let the Air Force invoke the appropriate enforcement.
Have the af buzz them, or…? What do you mean?
I use peta handbills a lot, I usually grab a bunch of them free off tables at rallies, keep them at home and in my purse to hand out to friends and strangers. They feature good eye catching photos, graphics and text, they’re very well done, imho.
I do support some of their (peta’s) individual campaigns, like the current nationwide kfc campaign, not for peta’s sake, but for the de-beaked mangled short-lived chickens. Protesting at KFC isn’t *meant* to protest the gov’mint, Sean, you must know that, right 🙂
It’s to protest KFC, that’s it. Period. I go to KFC protest to protest KFC. I go to antiwar protests to protest the war, city hall protests to protest or support local issues, etc. Not that capitalism, with its concomitant (ooh, I like that word) commodification of everything in sight is unrelated to the not-necessary-since-neanderthal-times (on most of the planet) use of animal flesh, hide and milk. Bob Linden on go vegan radio is constantly attacking the Bush administration and meat eating as symptoms of degradation of our better natures, symptoms of capitalist excess, symptoms of so many things. But you’ll find a rich animal rights literature amongst the Republican crowd, and you have to look no further on this blog than a mirror in most cases, to meet staunch anti-capitalists who proudly proclaim their continued ingestion of flesh and milk robbed from baby critters’ stomachs. Hey, some of my best friends are carnivores (but I wouldn’t want to tongue-kiss one – ewww! :barf:)
Sean, why didn’t you email???:holla::fustrate:
i am just saying there are bigger things to worry about and if we take care of the big things (neo-con govmint!) then the small things will fall into place a lot sooner
Sean, I’ll email you my phone number when i get home – put it in your phone or address book, or whatever. I can’t believe you were in SF and didn’t at least email me – I surely would have seen an email from you. I know I hardly get over here anymore, that’s cause of my daytime work schedule, everyone’s usually gone by the time I have time at work to get on here, and my dial up at home makes it too slow to converse here. I lurk quite a bit, not to spy, but because by the end of most days there are so many intersting posts to read, I can’t get through them all in time to post (see my previous comment about my ocd – I have a mania about reading everything up to the current time).
You better call next time!!:smack:
i forgot i never see you on the blog anymore!
Bigger things vs. ‘smaller’ things. I don’t live eat and breathe animal rights stuff for that very reason. The always-impending destruction of life on the planet is the biggest issue, I agree. And I run myself hoarse asking people ‘do you wanna boil slowly, or quickly, cause that’s the only difference between the dems and the repubs’. But I always make space on my activist dance card for the animals, because I firmly believe that brutality against non-humans is inextricably linked to the same human propensity for brutality against fellow humans. The two activities are not mutually exclusive for me. If there are time conflicts, I opt for the actions I can get to and from easiest.:knit:

No seriously. I have never caught up with anyone on this blog in person. Except maybe when MM came through town, and when I tried to introduce myself, noone knew me and they all acted kinda insular and all and I was too shy :knit2: sniff sniff
And when I worked up the courage to extend a handshake to MM (after he made fun of me, I think, grinning my own stupid grin back at me), he kept insisting he knew from somewhere, which can’t be true. I felt like a dork.
So you blew my chance for me to validate myself to *someone* on this blog, goddamit! :rant1:

She and I agree to disagree on this issue, and we go to the antiwar rallies and lectures on ar and non-ar issues together. Iraq says to ask U.N. to end US immunity
Mon Jul 10, 2006 5:07 PM ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Iraq will ask the United Nations to end immunity from local law for U.S. troops, the government said on Monday, as the U.S. military named five soldiers charged in a rape-murder case that has outraged Iraqis.

Iraq will ask the United Nations to end immunity from local law for U.S. troops, the government said on Monday, as the U.S. military named five soldiers charged in a rape-murder case that has outraged Iraqis.
Goddamn.
Pj, that bloody sunday clip is amazing, thanks!
Sunday Bloody Sunday, whoa!! :fist:
(That shot of John Ashcroft was truly creepy!)
Brilliantinthemorning (can’t find your post now, is that the right handle?), are you Jill? I just went to your blog and read that great post of yours (Jill’s? Same person?) about aar. I want to forward it to friends, but it wouldn’t highlight just the text for me. I’ll see if I have time at home.
Everyone’s gone from the office now except me, this blog is keeping me here, but I wanna go and get ready for my weekly fix of Eastenders, one of the few times I park my butt in front of the tv set.
Fred, I went to the link for the building explosion, and it comes up on my screen but just sits there silent, I couldn’t get it to play, even with this hi speed connection here at work. I guess I’ll hear about it on the news in a few minutes (plugging my headphone in to listen to kpfa on the bus ride home). An entire building blew up by accident in Manhattan???
Fred, 8) ugh 😉 more tea:joe:needed :rofl2:
ex-ny’er, If I was still there, I would gladly “play” with you and take you to some weird and wonderful places — including Legion of Honour/Honor (or WHATEVER) Museum, near the Cliff House. I would take you to some great and charming areas in and around MY CITY (ye ol’ saying) or The City.
play (4 me) = WORK or “actions” or strategy or whatever and sometimes even to really PLAY (not often sadly:-().
brilliantatbreakfast (may I call you bab for short? how bout ‘Babs’, would that offend you? It’s quicker than typing brilliantatbreakfast), you’re a lot more patient with aar than I am. I never even intended to listent to aar when it first launched, since I knew that Franken is a dnc hack. Some of his funnier skits reeled me in, and then MM clinched me:bow:
But aar is fully living down to exactly what I expected of them, so no surprise. And if it weren’t for MM  and Malloy:bow:, I wouldn’t be a tad bit disappointed. Malloy’s an old radio hand, he found other radio syndication venues before aar (I used to listen to him on the old ieamerica radio stream, with Peter Werbe). He’ll land on his feet in radioland. But I worry about our Marc. (ringing my hands – “oy, I verry about our Marc”) :menorah:
Maybe he could do better, career wise, on the comedy circuit.
Aar’s cynical use and disposal of real talent points up the need for creation of other independent radio syndicates. I hope there are people out there who will do this. Community radio, micro radio, independent webstreams are great. But the tunable airwaves are supposed to be public property, and we’ve got to take them back. :jason:

Take over television and radio stations…

Druid – I live directly down the street from the Palace. My mom visited from Marin yesterday to see the Monet at Guiverney exhibit, I haven’t gone myself yet. Where are you living now?
:banana:YEA Travisdem_04 Lives :!:YEA:banana:
I gotta go, gonna miss my Eastenders. Night.:fire:
:fustrate:must stop bush cabal!
hey travis seattle show is like 150 miles away from seattle man!
oh um they give me an apple almost every night in my bagged meal for at night when i am driving and the apple crawled out of the bag and started biting my leg! it was a carnivorous apple! so i picked the apple up took a bite out of its ass and threw it out the window!
Seanie Appleseed.
re the Palace 8) …And you are an ex-ny’er, with a mother in Marin County. :rofl2: So, what’s the “story”– an “ex-ny’er” by way of Marin :rofl2:
— but really, some of my best friends in LA were “ex-ny’er”(s) :rofl2:.
Where am I? Humboldt County and I’m “in town” now (said with a “snapping Z” action). Hmmmmm :D:( folk here.
Strange dichotomy. 😮
ARREST! IMPEACH! VIGILANCE! Now, please:!::growl:
(I just saw you left Bye )
:jason:killer apples!
pjsauter :rofl2: Seanie Appleseed.:rofl2:
Hi Sean 😉 I think you might of even gone by me 😮 but I am a “misanthrope” so I can handle YOUR “DIS…” :rofl2::wink:
This blog got serious today. I wonder why. manhattan up in smoke!:omg: Al…
M u s t …..i n f u s e…..t e a:joe:…..n o w:!:
hey nicki are you coming to the warped tour!
Druid, Druid, Druid – my mom moved out here from ny 2 years before I did. I followed here out here in the late 1970’s. So there. 😛
Heh, I’m glad I checked back in here. Eastenders in 8 minutes and counting.
Must feed Samsara the cat:billcat:
Maybe I’ll check back in a bit.
So Druid, don’t go assuming that just ’cause my mom’s in Marin, I’m not from NY. ‘kay? 😉
:rofl2:it was a “joke”, I don’t assume (ass (out of) u (and) me), anything :rofl2:
Like I said — some of my friends in school (LA) were ex-ny’er(s). Some were the only ones I could talk with, although I finally did have friends in LA also.
BUT the first friends were NY’ers and ex-ny’ers. 😉
I know we are “play’n” 😉 But if I were to stop anywhere in the US besides coastline Washington, it would be NY. I  NY ❗ 😉
Sorry I got snippy on you, Druid. Apparently I took the :rofl2: more seriously than you meant it. Maybe lack of sleep last night, and a seemingly unrequited mad crush that knocked me upside the head yesterday. The object of said crush seems to only want to be friends and political collaborators, which I’ll be glad to be, once I get over this mad crush. :fustrate::-(:knit2::oops:
druid where do you live?
SeanMS, Humboldt Couty (if you want more I will give/send ya an e-mail) I have given my location by accident before, but…I don’t know the “GAME”. 😉
ARREST! IMPEACH! VIGILANCE!
Sean, I just sent you an email.
8)

Dude, I just did; maybe there’s a delay.

Also, I just got e-mails that was sent MANY hours ago…..:fustrate:
Sean, I was just sending it to you for future reference. I already had your email address from before, when we were exchanging plans for books on cd, remember?
so should i call in to malloy as jeffy the penguin?
Sean, are you talking to Druid, or me, or both? The rebroadcast doesn’t come on in SF for another hour and a half, and I’ll be well asleep by then, I hope. I have to work in my kitchen now, and the computer doesn’t broadcast into there, so no point in my tuning in the webstream now.
Who is this Jeffy the Penguin, anyway?
my evil republican counterpart you can read his blog at jeffylikescandy.blogspot.com
I guess you two are on email, I just realized I’m talking to myself. Never mind (shades of Gilda Radner, may she rip). G’night, then.
:fustrate:dont remind me! between the two of us we spent about 40 bucks and nobody got anything!
Hey wait a minute (you posted just as I was leaving, Sean). You used the word cunt in your blog. Now even though it was to deride some rightwing jerk, and even though I’m trying not to feel insulted about it, I do find it insulting. Maybe I shouldn’t, I mean after all, we call people pricks and assholes. But somehow the four letter ‘c’ word grates on my nerves. Somehow, I’m ok about calling a woman a bitch, but something about that c word crosses the line for me, not sure why. Might be hypocritical or irrational, but there ’tis.
uh what blog on the jeffy blog? jeffy is evil i dont condone anything jeffy posts!
:jason: yeh right, funny, dude. The stepford wives are comin’ to get you, kiddo. :jason:
Hah! Turn my back for one minute, and you go writing nasty nasty stuff! Take that, bad boy! :spank:
