Ok, well, I hate to be a drag, but I have to admit I’m pretty sad this morning, now that the Marc Maron Show is no longer here to keep me company (as if things weren’t lonely enough in this hot nasty town). Anyhow, I’ll try and carry on.
Down in Dupont Circle from 1 – 3 this afternoon there will be “participatory puppet theater and radical public education” as part of the International Day of Action against Climate Change and the G8. Seeing as it’s right there on the red line, and, surprisingly, my calendar happens to open at that time tomorrow, I reckon I’ll head down there. The notice says to bring music, drums, creativity, or just yourself. I’m sorely lacking in the first three (unless you count my mp3 player), so I’ll bring myslef and my camera, as we…
…join unsuspecting DC pedestrians, picniccers, and passersby at a surprise visit by the Group of 8 (G8) leaders here in DC! Some may meet, greet and shake the limp hands of the G8 dignitaries, while others will just mock and boo them ….. but all who listen to Prezident Butch speechify along with his fellow G8 G-Men will be shocked, awe-struck and most of all dumbfounded by their ingenious (or insane?) plan to prevent Planetary Climate Change, Chaos and Catastrophe through the help of resurgent super-powers KING COAL, BIGGER OIL, and NO-CLUE-U-R ENERGY ….”
Should be fun. Whatever you all do today, I hope you have a good one.
OK I rock. Numero Uno. All will acknowledge that!!!!
Numero Dos!
I hope they put up the podcast; if not I’ll have to ask someone for the show.
I haven’t listened to the last 3 shows; I just can’t bring myself to do it. I’m kind of emotionally raw this week from other things and I haven’t been up to it. Sometimes you just can’t handle one more thing to piss you off, you know?
I will say this, though: If AAR thought all they had to do was bring Marc Maron back and revive Morning Sedition and it would be as if Danny Goldberg’s reign of terror had never happened, I think they’re wrong. Sure, anything Maron does is going to be funny, but when you catch magic in a bottle like MS, you can’t capture it again later on. It may be just as good, but it’s going to be different.
My guess is that AAR is beginning a not-so-slow spiral into oblivion. My hope is that the other startup (the one set up by the guy who used to work for ClearChannel) will pick up the pieces and recognize what a treasure AAR could have been, and put the bucks behind it to make it what it still could be.
And now that I’ve gone all Terence Mann from Field of Dreams on you, I’m gonna get some coffee.

Apocalyptic actions and Marc and Jim leaving…Where’s The Funny:?:
But I think he will visit us here, periodically8)
I feel that AAP is cleanning house. They used the “Star” talent for first year. Then most are gone, with Al F and Sam S in that unk state — probably leaving.

What up for your weekend?
… as the tumble weeds pass …
No more brain candy to make my synapses fire :fustrate::bong::bong::bong:
KING KONG, If you are still there Greetings again. I was feeding STRAYS :billcat:and cleaning a rat cage. Tomorrow is the other. Sound exciting huh… I have plans I will speak on next blog — Just wanted to say. I’m still here BwahHaHa (teehee)
Still here, Druid. Just a little …
oh MAN! I slept through the party and woke up at 4 am. Boy oh boy, it’s a right mess around here, empty sherry glasses, mind candy, brownies, confetti, phones off hooks, and all around screen savers with :sammy:
brilliant, i haven’t caught up on the shows either….i’m savoring them. Although, I want to hear everyone’s voices  – druid, kk, pj, et al so will listen to last nights show as soon as the podcast is up (it BETTER be posted 😯 ).
this mercury in retrograde is a bit spooky…so if you need to do something requiring paperwork and communication, when is the earliest you can start (can’t put it off too long).
KK, so glad you’re ok, albeit a bit wet! :santacool:
I will just talk to myself…Plans for weekend. I know I appear at times to not be able to speak, but I will be reading and writting and IT IS MY FEW HOUR SCI/FAN WEEKEND OF REPEATS on non-cable TV…:rofl2:(sick humour)
:rofl2:
PJ, you are TOO funny! I just saw on the right, “Time Left in DC”
:rofl2: you’re the greatest.
FK glad you had a nice sleep. The blogs were a-hoppin’ for the shows.
druid, do you write things in a publication – I guess I’m asking, writing things someone like myself can read?
here’s Joan Chittister’s latest Column about the Palestinian situation:
Oh, please: this is not ‘defense’
yeah, I saw our little blog became a part of the “700 Club.”

So as Mary Shelly said about Percy…..He is a poet, but he hasn’t written it down yet. (To Paraphase…)
G’Night, G’Day One and All 😉
Oy, I’m tired. Not used to staying up that late.
PJ is there anyway you can delete three of my posts?
Oh, if you want me to I can. Which ones?
good morning geniuses!
What a very sad day…and boy do I have some reading to do…720 last nite!
I am so very sad and I havent even heard the last 2 shows….
I hope that Marc is OK with it all. I feel pretty OK with the finality….but at the same time I will keep hoping that AAR might come up with some sorta money and lure him back by giving him some sorta complete freedom to make up a new format for the mornings….
Ill have to write all the AAR guys.
”Do or Do not.” 😉 I just remember a post once changing a word. But if too much of hassle, I will just “suck it up”. 😉 But I have faded so G’Night G’Day
PJ:eek:#24, #26, #27, #28 but if toooo much of a hassle, again, I will just “suck it up” 😉
PJ, if easier, for you, you can take 24 thru 28 out.
OK, I hope I got what you wanted (they look different to me than they do here, if that makes sense).
Well, Marc did say that it sucked, but I suppose in a lot of ways, it’s kind of liberating an empowering. I hope he actually does do a podcast from his garage. I’ll donate or subscribe, and I’ll certainly do whatever I can to promote it or help in any way he needs (a somewhat empty gesture, I admit, but not insincere).
PJ, 🙁 OF HAPPINESS, Farmerkat asked me a bit about me, but when I was to delete, it was too late. I was mortified. Now, I can sleep in peace. THANK YOU:!: and goodnight :wink:
Hi and Bye Melina, talk later :wink:
No problem. One day, I’ll have to introduce you to my sister, who is a lover of wolves. She would love to hear your stories, I know.
Where the hell is the podcast? Does anyone have the show, just in case they don’t put it up?
A good site to bookmark
At least 12 Lebanese villagers, including women and children, were killed on Saturday in an Israeli air strike on vehicles fleeing a village in southern Lebanon, a witness said.
The Israeli’s seem to be bombing all infrastructure in Lebanon to just keep the Lebanese freedom fighters from exporting their captured Israelite troops to Iran..

Americans take their kids to soccer practice.. go to home depot , the liquor store and grocery shopping while hundreds die in some foreign land..:shock::paranoid:
The problem is they would do the same thing as long as the death and destruction wasn’t just outside there city limits .. then they would only take their kids to a soccer field that was located on the opposite end of town.:rant1::yuck::barf:
It always seems to take a long time for the Fri night show to get posted. If, for some reason, it fails to get posted, there will be alternative means of distribution.
Good morning, sheeple. Did this really happen, was last night really the last show? It has some qualities of a dream. That last skit of Marc the Shark stays in my mind the most for some reason: the “all five bloggers who listen to you” line :omg: I really love the way he gave the Finger to Air America via that skit and alternated it with being gracious with thank yous at the end. Since bad things tend to happen in threes I’m somewhat afraid of putting on the news..two more things, you know. But that’s silly, isn’t it? Why should anything be bad? Peace. I need to create today.
brill-I seem to have it though I havent listened to it yet. I can transfer it on AOL Instant messenger to anyone who needs it…just will remove commercials first for a more neat package.
I also have the Majority Report but that seems to be in 4 pieces…that happens sometimes…but it seems to all be there.
Im listening to old Elvis Costello…
Does anyone kow how to post audio on Blogger?
I can post lil’ movies but not audio …yet…will have to try to figure it out.
Of course, I havent even gotten my page workign yet.
TGIS!!
Why is Maureen Dowd writign about words? Unless that op-ed leads to Ann Coulter Im not even ognna bother…theres still frank Rich tomorrow.
Dru- you think youre bad…look at my farewell requiem to Marc of RIPCoco…talk about…ugh…
Ive spent so many years destroying everything I wrote or created so I try to force myself not to go back and worry anymore about how much of it is me or collective consciousness or whatever….
Maybe Im a sap…or worse, a FAN…(in my family you sorta dont do that because you grow up around celebs)
but for me its all more of an intellectual thing.
My big secret is that I LOVE Big Brother….
And I’ll bet that PJ wont delete that no matter how much I beg…heh heh….
So, when I go to the corner to talk in hushed voices withmy sister, its not necessarily about her troubled marriage or the children or the old grandpa, but more likely about janelle and Howie and how has the golden power of veto….
Hey!! I did say that Im into pop culture, and dont we have to have someone out there trying to figger out the masses???Its not like its…um… The Bachelor or something…nevermind….
…you know what PJ?…I really think that Marc is gonna come back with something great. I hope its not just a podcast, but it would be nice if he did something regular just to keep in touch….I think that hes really bigger than this AAR crap…and its been hard for me to admit how low AAR has sunk, because then IM almost sorta agreeing with O’Reilly or someone…but there is some truth to how stupid and wrong this thing has been run.
What I said in my blog about the business plan has to be it.
How could you have some sort of plan that wants a return so soon? How could they not have contingency money? Why wont the rich dems infuse?….something is wrong in that little dysfunctional family, and its just bad for all of us.
Hopefully Marc has been through enough shrinking and AA to see the dysfunction and feel better off without it.
It wasn’t a sad show last night so don’t be afraid to listen to it. Everyone’s energy level was up with the live audience. Kent Jones and Laughing Andy posted last night on Marc’s blog after the show. Very cool. Paul Hackett was :billcat:. David Sirota was 8). I have really grown to like Jim. And Marc and Jim, I think, have developed a friendship. Marc mentioned Garage Podcasting. Jim said he was available to do the GP 8) But, you never know with Marc. He tends to say things to soften the blow. :peace:
And what to do with Dowd? Its sorta interesting but pisses me off because there is much more important stuff going on like WW3 brewing ….how could she write such a thing and not liken it to the Laura Bush/Condi Rice…and Ann Coulter spectrum of power….
OK…Ive got the show edited and ready to go if anyone wants it just email me at doubter at optonline dot net and Ill send it along. Ill also try to post it, Premium be damned….
Yeah, well, this Evan Cohen guy had everybody convinced that they had enough $ to lose money for two years. And the plan was not just to produce content, but to build a network where every affiliate would carry every minute of AAR programming. Sounded great. But, that wasn’t the case of course, and suddenly they had to change management and try pay everybody and get them insurance and all that.
I think they thought they had a saviour in Goldberg. Somebody who was “proven” in business (not in radio, though, which they seemed to have not considered), could put some of his own money in and perhaps attract more investors. I’ll bet the board was ecstatic to give him carte blanche. I’ll bet he talked a great game, too, as he brought his own people in (who didn’t do shit, if you can believe Larsen’s blog, which I tend to do), and instead of promoting the shows he had and trying to sell programming, he tinkered with shit he knew nothing about and had no fucking basis for judging, and he all but killed the network.
Marc had said that he thought the new interim CEO “gets it,” but now they are cash poor, and they may not be able to survive the damage that Goldberg did.
I really want AAR to survive and thrive. No, it’s not all I’d hoped it would be. It’s not left enough for me (with a few exceptions), and it’s not really even entertaining enough for me anymore (again, with an exception here and there), but even a moderate voice to oppose the rightwing blather that has become the only thing that some people hear is a good start. Or at least better than nothing.
But, it’s gotta get out there on the air, and it’s gotta be entertaining. Much as I love Amy Goodman, if I had her on my radio in the morning, I’d be back asleep in no time. You won’t get a helluva a lot of people to tune in to hear Chomsky or Zinn (you might get me – in fact, there’s a good catalog of both of them – among others – on Rhapsody), much as it would do them a lot of good to hear it. Sometimes you gotta hit somebody over the head with something else first, so that they’ll shut the fuck up for a minute and listen.
Good morning from “hot as hell” Las Vegas. :joe: I guess I’ll catch the show when I get back this evening.
You mean, you’ll be “leaving Las Vegas?”
Yeah…I totally agree…and everytime I watch that damned Left of the Dial it just seems like they were unprepared and that decisons were made out of desperation.
The amounts of money that they were shy were hardly enough to keep staff on Soro’s boat….I mean, if there was so much trouble, where are the power folks in the party who seem Ok to host a fundraiser for this or that politician but not Ok to pump money into something that is as necessary to the party AS money!….if we cant reach people with the truth then what good is anything?
Short of re-enacting the fairness docterine, the airwaves are gonna be the only way.
And how could they ever make a deal with anyone that involved “tinkering” with the lineup that was actually doing OK…as if he could bring in a return faster, even as his ideas went against even the Imus logic of the popular audience….
If they could get listeners to hear the truth by having Howard Stern and women in bikinis, then more power to them….why go to…er…the Riley show????
It boggles the mind, regardless of what anyone personally thinks of Marc or his humor!
Yuk Yuk PJ
I took a fiction writing course from a writer named John O’Brien, who was (or at least appeared to be) an alcoholic (he used to miss class on a regular basis with the “Oswego Flu,” and we occasionally had class in the campus pub). He’d also have class at his house, and we’d all bring beverages and throw a quarter in a hat and tell stoires – best story won the pot. His wife never looked too thrilled to see us.
He had some great stories to tell, and I often wondered whether the John O’Brien that wrote Leaving Las Vegas and committed suicide was him or not, but I guess not, since that other John O’Brien was my age.
I wonder what ever became of him. I think he was on pretty thin ice with the school, and got canned. But then, so was I, as I collected my last student loan check, and went out into the “real” world.
So, they said there was no wireless here but I checked anyways and lo and behold, there it was! It’s getting to where you can pick up a wirelees network just about anywhere.
Yeah, well, I guess when you neglect to check to see if the ship is seaworthy, and you get out into the ocean and start springing leaks, all you can do is bail water and try to plug the holes, all the while taking on more and more water.
Then somebody comes along who “seems” to have a proven track record, and says, “I can keep this ship afloat, but you must do everything I say,” well, I guess if you don’t know any better, and all you want to do (as Fred would say) is get back to your chaise lounge by the pool, you’re probably happy to hand things over.
Then you find out out you’ve been screwed (again), and all stuff that the good people around you have been saying finally sinks in, and you realize that the ship is actually sinking faster.
So all you can do is throw the fucker overboard (even if his goddamn pockets are lined with your money), and hope the new skipper can plug all the holes.
Not syndicating TMMS has me stumped, though. I reckon there are certain costs associated, but what the fuck, they’re paying the rest of his contract anyway. They might be saving some studio time costs or some satellite time or whatever, but, shit, why not try? I mean, if Marc won’t go for the morning show in NYC idea, why the hell not at least give the show a shot? Were the ratings that terrible? Was nobody willing to pay for the show?
I dunno. Sucks all the way around. I want my Maronearl.
Wireless is definitely the “hot” technology. Amazing how it works. Amazing that it works.
Yeah, Krista-Im finding that with my Palm TX I can get my mail all over the place….some of the ports are blocked but actually now a huge piece of dowtown Stamford is wireless as is the train station.
Its incredible….
Thats what will revolutionize Radio and TV…we wont have to depend on networks as much for main feeds….it will all be available to us…until someone comes along and screws it up….as usual
and why couldnt he do a morning show from the west coast?
How could that be a sticking point, especially if they gave him an east coast co-host or some such….you could do that with an easy video hookup that would allow them to interact just fine.
If it had been money about syndicating they could have come to us…or added another level of premium…
Hell, they could have made so much more moreny if they had scrapped this premium thing and told us that it costs alot to archive the stuff so could we send donations for downloads….just a little good will goes a long way, and the folks that get it more than make up for the ones who take the free ride.
Actually, they could have just stopped subsidizing the AAP bandwidth, and let them go back to taking donations, or just allow show trading via bittorrent. But I guess they were hoping for another revenue stream. Hell, if they’d even done that the right way from the start, they’d have been better off.
Damn it, listen to me! I can keep this ship afloat but you must do everything I say. 🙄
Well, at least Marc didn’t burn his bridges. Maybe when they plug all those holes and get everything ship shape they’ll be able to give Marc what he needs to get.
Bush blocks WTO entry for Russia
By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent 8 minutes ago
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – In a chilly summit prelude,
President Bush blocked Russia’s entry into the World Trade Organization on Saturday and President Vladimir Putin mockingly said Moscow doesn’t want the kind of violence-plagued democracy the United States has fostered in Iraq.
Alternately joking and poking at each other, the two also showed differences at a news conference on the explosion of violence in the Mideast.
Bush held Israel blameless for its punishing attacks in Lebanon and said it was up to the militant group Hezbollah to lay down its arms. Putin was critical of Israel’s use of force and said the violence “should stop as soon as possible.”
The two leaders met for two hours before the opening of the annual summit of eight major world powers, which was expected to focus on nuclear problems with Iran and North Korea and the escalating fighting between Israel and the Islamic guerrilla group Hezbollah.

From over at AAP:
This totally blows! Where the god*am freaking hell is my very last Maron show? Does it even exist???? I’ll bet it exists.
Sweeie, are you trying to be ironically rude, or just good, old-fashioned, actually rude?
As you must know by now, Maron is usually posted later on Saturday morning. And I can’t post it until Maron and/or his staff actually makes it available for me. They have not done so yet. When they do, I will post it.
I think we can both imagine that Maron and his staff have little reason to go the extra step to help AAR out. But when they realize that making the show available to Premium actually benefits their fans who were paying to show their support, I think we’ll get the file posted.
Darling, I’m trying to be actually rude.
Perhaps you shouldn’t take it so personally since it’s AAR and Maron’s show’s fault and not yours. still I am angry.
Well I post the shows. And there’s no show to post yet. So please complain to Maron and his staff. Though, as I said, they might not really care at this point. I’d be pretty disgruntled…
Israel gives Syria ultimatum (stop in 72 hrs or “disastrous consequences”)
Report: Israel gives Syria ultimatum
Roee Nahmias
The London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Saturday that “Washington has information according to which Israel gave Damascus 72 hours to stop Hizbullah’s activity along the Lebanon-Israel border and bring about the release the two kidnapped IDF soldiers or it would launch an offensive with disastrous consequences.”
The report said “a senior Pentagon source warned that should the Arab world and international community fail in the efforts to convince Syria to pressure Hizbullah into releasing the soldiers and halt the current escalation Israel may attack targets in the country.”
Al-Hayat quoted the source as saying that “the US cannot rule out the possibility of an Israeli strike in Syria,” this despite the fact that the Bush administration has asked Israel to “refrain from any military activity that may result in civilian casualties.”
‘Hizbullah made the same mistake’
The report also mentioned that President George W. Bush has repeatedly put much of the blame for the recent escalation on Syria.

:?::?::?::?::?::?:
Well, I’m sure as fuck glad to hear that Israel is blameless in all of this.
Is that Bob answering the questions over there at AAP?
Yep.
what kind of insane power trip could he be on…and who in their rightmind would let him continue to do customer service or interact at all from a forum that is basically run by AAR….that is crazy…and worse than bad management…
Wow I thought AAP was gone.
That bargin book place said that JS was going to take up to 4 weeks to get to me:-(
I think we should send Marc some iTunes gift cards to load up his ipod for a while.
did you try amazon?
Well, it isn’t a forum run by AAR, it’s Bob’s. AAR just tells everybody to go there and complain, because they probably don’t pay anybody to handle it (not on the weekends, anyway). And I suppose I’d guess that whatever they pay Bob to do the show, it probably aint much. So, I guess if wants to be rude, well, that’s up to him. Mostly, I think he just becomes very defensive (which, of course, you can’t really be if you’re in business, but he’s not really in business). I mean, there wouldn’t have been any of those show archives w/o him. And the poster gave to back to him pretty well.
Maybe Bob should get with his bosses and ask for a copy of the talking points…the ones that say that AAR is keeping the door open with the “Maron People” for future projects….Personally, I wouldnt go being all us and them on a sinking ship…
But then they have never been able to “manage” that guy anyway…if they even know his name or what it is that he does… exactly
I think that Bob needs a book on how to stop being a victim and break out of that anger cycle….
I mean, I try not to be rude, but that’s because I’m such a wonderful human being. 🙄 And modest, too.
I got to the bookcloseout through amazon.
So do you all have the book?
Well, I think he lives in Ohio, and things are nasty there, what with the corrupt Republicans and all.
I have the book. Got it for like 1.99 plus 3.95 shipping. Haven’t read it yet, though.
I havent read it either, but its on top of my list
In fundraising, keep in mind that the price tag for a radio spot can run anywhere from $10 to $800 per airing. They’re priced like airline tickets — it all depends on where and when the ad is run. The larger the market and the bigger the host, the more airtime will cost.
http://www.codepink4peace.org/article.php?id=414
=======================================
Lets assume AAR had one tenth the market Art Limpprick has and he gets the $800 per spot.. so AAR gets $80.. There are typically 20 adds per hour so that’s 1600 dollars an hour in income from sponsors to bring one the shows. ( shows with ratings that is). At a minimum there are three people involved ( on direct labor) , the talker, the producer and the engineer/board opp the later two positions are hopefully shared with other shows lets say they make $25 and hour so $50 /hr total ..The talker is not a shared resource so lets say they pay them $300/day so the direct costs for each show (3 hrs) is like $300 + $150 = $ 450. Typically markups for overhead used to be 3x ( with today’s insurance costs its probably higher today) the direct labor so that’s $1350/show for a total cost of about $1700 per show, So if the cost is $1700 and the income is $4800 I really wonder what the problem is.. The investors wants a return of 100% on his investment in the first year or what ?? Maybe they can’t get $80.00 per spot or something ??:fustrate::fustrate:
(Cut in) In Israeli discourse, Israel ended the occupation in Gaza when it evacuated its settlers from the Strip, and the Palestiniansí behavior therefore constitutes ingratitude. But there is nothing further from reality than this description. In fact, as was already stipulated in the Disengagement Plan, Gaza remained under complete Israeli military control, operating from outside. Israel prevented any possibility of economic independence for the Strip and from the very beginning, Israel did not implement a single one of the clauses of the agreement on border-crossings of November 2005. Israel simply substituted the expensive occupation of Gaza with a cheap occupation, one which in Israelís view exempts it from! the occupierís responsibility to maintain the Strip, and from concern for the welfare and the lives of its million and a half residents, as determined in the fourth Geneva convention.
Israel does not need this piece of land, one of the most densely populated in the world, and lacking any natural resources. The problem is that one cannot let Gaza free, if one wants to keep the West Bank. A third of the occupied Palestinians live in the Gaza strip. If they are given freedom, they would become the center of Palestinian struggle for liberation, with free access to the Western and Arab world. To control the West Bank, Israel needs full control Gaza. The new form of control Israel has developed is turning the whole of the Strip into a prison camp completely sealed from the world.

You sound like a fucking economics professor, Fred. Can you demonstrate that on a chalkboard?

fucking?! Did you say fucking:fustrate::fustrate::mad::fu:
I don’t remember reading it before. Good news.
I am listening to a Franken rerun. The recent Israeli excursion into Lebanon has just started. He wants to get someone on the show who knows more about Israel than Israel than he does. Lebanon started the recent “war” by shooting rockets and kidnapping soldiers. Therefore, Al maintains that Israel has a right to defend itself. But, he adds, they always overreact. He is right. Nations have the right to defend themselves. Nations also need to be held accountable for breaking International law. And here is where we step into the breach…
This headache is more than my peabrain can handle:smack:
Yes, Silverton resident, I used the combination word
FUCKING-ECONOMICS
. Quite the common expression nowadays.I like listening to Franken’s show. He is mellowing into the job.
Silverton resident??WTF
Still mad about the 20G?
That was gigabytes.
Any mail, ladyfinger?
Ok, good, so he’s talking about the issue. I’m sorry I missed what he said.
Sounds like they would have let Marc do the morning show from LA but he didn’t like that idea:
Hey. Isn’t there a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Silverton?
oh, it’s Saturday…I keep thinking it’s Sunday (because I’m not working). Let me check now
Franken’s statements on Israel were brief. I summarized them. Perhaps when he gets an expert on the show, Al will hear the underlying reasons for Israel’s “over reaction”.
no mail except bills 🙁
You talking about Silverton Oregon or Silverton WA?
http://www.ancilnance.com/html/258.htm
Here is something about your town’s most famous citizen:
Silverton native son Homer Davenport was an internationally known cartoonist in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Born in Waldo Hills March 8, 1867, Davenport left Silverton to make is way in the world. He spent time with a circus – but left when asked to oil the elephant. He headed to San Francisco and went to work as a newspaper artist, becoming a political cartoonist with the Hearst papers as his skills were recognized.
:omg:
No visits from postal officials? (You know no one from PDX-OR.)

No anyone on this list?
This is my neighbor:
oh, I got a letter from the post office informing me to inform anyone who sends me mail that my zip code is actually incomplete and -1719 should be added to the end of it
Yes. That is your house in Silverton.
http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/WASEAtroll.html
You no no one from PDX OR, until further notice!
I just had to google what “PDX” means.
What ever you choose to believe at the moment.
Yes, I know the Fremont Troll quite well.:ear: Hey, Seattle is my second city. Is that statue of Lenin still there?
Portland=PDX
You said you lived in Silverton. Silverton is the home of Homer Davenport.
http://www.seattlephotographs.com/photos/fremont/fremont_lenin_statue_5d.htm
I never said I lived in Silverton- I was there one day a month ago.
I will explain further over a more secure line. It is probably nothing…
Oh. Well, tell me about Hazel Hall, then.
Oh I heard that MT Hood was rumbling yesterday.
I heard it yesterday…that it was rumbling
Ms: SJ
We recently reviewed mail destined for customers in your town. WE found that you may be unaware of your complete and proper address which is recognized by your local minicipality ffor emregency services, your management company and the USPS> I realize it is also possible that no one ever took the time to explain why it is so importantto include all the necessary elements of your correct location/mailing address when corresponding with you …etc etc.
Translation: If you’re going to be so freakin popular you better help us because you alone and your friend are overwhelming the entire postal system, missy!
Just how big is the Heartsvilla Post Office?
http://www.ochcom.org/hall
weirdly, this is actually from the White Plains Post office which usually doesn’t handle my mail. I guess the Hartsdale po collapsed under the strain. WTF did you send me ???????
Mt. Hood is rumbling. I live right next door to Mt. Hood. Oh crap. Am I destined for an ash shower? How about a lava bath?
really, this letter is cracking me up
Rumour has it that some under-the-bridge dweling troll sent you a ladyfinger firecracker and a packet of sugar. (Metaphor for what?) And since we live in such hysterical times, the :ear: started worrying that the postal hacks would do some sort of investigation into this act of terrorissm. I repeat, Do you know anyone from PDX?
Cracking up, as in FIRECRACKER?
No. I do not. Talk to me more about this in e mail, I’m clueless
Then it is cool. Much ado about nothing. (I just don’t need the hassle, if you know what I mean.)
I don’t think it is anything. Where is the crime?
I WANT TO KNOW!!!!!! the metaphor could be a number of things.
Packet of sugar. Sugar represents…?
Lady finger. Lady fingers do what when lit?
Elementary, Watson.
OK. Leave me hanging…………
I have my interpretation
I ruined the surprise. But my hunch is that the post was held back. It is nothing. Lady finger found on the sidewalk….wanted to share it with you.
I can be like a firecracker. but I think it means that on a different level
I gotta go get ready for rehearsal. Dan Pashman is on the radio now!
I guess you’ll probably get it returned to you or maybe not, and that I won’t get it. How would they know what’s inside the package though? Think about it. It’s weird.
Who sent you that explosive message?
NO ReTURN ADDRESS! Who do you know in PDX?
I’m about ready to ignite any second…. speaking of firecrackers…
pj or melina, can you send me last night’s show? i have the yahoo im
i’m not sure those guys out on remote captured it for the podcasts…weren’t they using a skeleton crew?
it’s
souleiadofarm
===
since they decided to not syndicate his show, getting him to work for the money is better than paying out the contract. wonder IF they really would have had him do a morning show or if they would have strung him along with writing jokes or fill ins just to get work out of him…I think he may have called their bluff.
:smack:
Pashman is doing a good routine with Bill Mc.
NOBODY. I don’t know a soul over there.
I am paranoid. Wait. Who am I. I do not exist.
Good. Hey. Much ado about nothing. Think of the crimes committed. What …
No you don’t. I just talk to people who don’t exist. too bad, they’re more interesting than real people.
This is about a single firecracker? Fuhgedaboudit. Nothing is going to happen.
Re: 50. Yes. And a packet of Raw Sugar.
forgotten :omg:
There. We generated some sort of draft for our script. At least I think so. Do you think we can use any of the raw sugar and soft explosion stuff?
well when you put it that way… yes
Bruuuuuuuce….
well, regarding #95- thats why they shoulda given him the 9AM slot and moved Jerry to midnight or even afternoon.
Hearing Dan Pashman just reminds me of how good MS was. I was sorry to hear that Brendan McDonald is leaving AAR. Was he laid of in the Randi contract purge, or is he moving on to greener pastures? He and Dan did a bang-up job covering for M&M during the Katrina disaster.
Hang on Kat- IM putting Yahoo Messenger in my computer just for you:love:
I hope it does file transfers the same way as aolIM
how come you like this messenger better?
thanks melina! I’m sitting here reading about the world going in the :crap: and there’s your post! :cake:
Well, i had a yahoo account anyway and aol creeps me out. if it’s too much of a bother I’ll download it, though.
oh, and i got my Jerusalem syndrome from abebooks for dirt cheap. (don’t tell marc, it might hurt his feelings.)
Oh Kat- I dont think that Marc would be mad…when its rare then its worth alot. Remember when it was $90 on Amazon? Now the price has dropped.
So did somebody release a case of Jeruselem Syndrome when I wasn’t looking?:knit:
Whew! Just finished reading all the posts from yesterday. Sorry I couldn’t make it… after being up since 4:30 Friday morning and not being able to catch any nap time, I was beat. Sounds like they did a killer show, judging from the comments.
PJ, whenever you get the CD set together, you have a customer. Name your price. The T-shirt signing is a great idea too.
Melina, your post on RIPCoco is unbelievably great. I think you captured everyone’s feelings beautifully. Thanks.
To all the expatriates from Marc’s blog, welcome, or in some cases, welcome back. It’s nice to have you here, even if the reason sucks.
I will be awaiting the Comedy Central special with baited breath. Unfortunately, I’m baiting my breath with week-old chum, so you may not want to stand too close.
:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
Marc and Jim, if MS was part one of the trilogy, and TMMS was part two, I know a blogful of people who can’t wait for part three, wherever and whenever it turns up.
:sammy:

Just posted on Marc’s blog
OK, Kev. My price is a picture of you getting a lap dance from Katherine Harris.
Hey, where is Sean? I’m a at the Library, man- North East somehwere, I think.
I missed the show last night, too. :smack:
Nobody’s here!
Um, well, if nobody is willing to throw it down with me, I think I’ll just leave, ’cause yeah, and stuff. Wait…what?
I want the signed T-shirt, PJ. Oh, and the CD, too. PLease and thank you.
Later.
Travis, you there?
Are you back home?
It’s kinda hard to read through these comments… but I’m new and so it’s probably me not you.
I’m throwing an INTERNET RADIO MARC MARON/JIM EARL MEMORIAL WAKE.
Here’s a descrip. of it from my blog…
More info on my blog
It’s REALLY not about self-promotion. I feel bad that it looks like it. But I sincerely want a fun gathering of fans requesting and playing their favorite bits. Like sharing bootleg tapes of our favorite band.
Sound interesting? Hope so.
OK, Kev. My price is a picture of you getting a lap dance from Katherine Harris.

My first impulse was to say that there isn’t enough Lysol on the planet for me to let that skank anywhere near my lap. But then I realized she might come cheap (so to speak), because apparently she can use the money these days:
http://tinyurl.com/ejcdb
Who knows, a happy ending might pay enough to re-shingle part of the roof. :hubba:
There will now be a brief pause to allow all readers to :barf:
But seriously, if “borrowing” campaign contributions isn’t illegal, which I guess it isn’t, it should be. It’s certainly sleazy. If I send money to Russ Feingold, I don’t want him using it for a new barbecue grill, not that he would do something that stupid.
And I was under the impression that Harris only hits on college-age guys anyway.
:rofl2:
:joe: and more :joe:
Choppers overhead, again.
King Kong, great job on the call in last night. 😀
melina, lawton wasn’t on that podcast….didn’t everyone say he was on the last show?
 hearing all your voices. It warmed my heart.
Hackett is like a man-child who occasionally spouts intelligent comments (he’s still gobs better than that mean schmidt and others!) oh I’ll miss marc’s interviews.
PJ, how’d the rally go?
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ARTICLE BY CHRIS HEDGES
Chris Hedges: Mutually Assured Destruction in the Middle East
gotta run!
isi, thank you, just had to use the secret number. You are too kind. It’s been such a ride.
wait! Why the choppers, KK?
AND, why aren’t people angry that Israel didn’t at least wait for a plan (and execute it!) to get the Americans out of Lebanon? Isn’t that “friends” do when they attack other countries? Geez what a mess of a world.
:billcat: The last half an hour or so, there have been choppers in the air. (There are no commercial helicopters in Taiwan, only military.) Last Tuesday, at 5 and 5:30 am the air raid sirens blew. No news as to why.
It just gets chalked up to ‘whatever’.
FK- is your house full again, yet?
i was wondering if it was because of NK. no traffic helicopters there?? 😉
house will be full later tonight!
Be safe all!
Turned out there was no rally, I’m sorry to say. So I walked over to the White House, where there’s always somebody protesting something.
It’s about Syria. That was the frightening message delivered by Damascus yesterday when it allowed its Hizbollah allies to cross the UN Blue Line in southern Lebanon, kill three Israeli soldiers, capture two others and demand the release of Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails.
Within hours, a country that had begun to believe in peace–without a single Syrian soldier left on its soil–found itself once more at war.
Israel held the powerless Lebanese government responsible–as if the sectarian and divided cabinet in Beirut can control Hizbollah. That is Syria’s message. Fouad Siniora, Lebanon’s affable Prime Minister, may have thought he was running the country but it is President Bashar Assad in Damascus who can still bring life or death to a land that lost 150,000 lives in 15 years of civil conflict.
And there is one certain bet that Syria will rely on; that despite all Israel’s threats of inflicting “pain” on Lebanon, this war will run out of control until–as has so often happened in the past–Israel itself calls for a ceasefire and releases prisoners. Then the international big-hitters will arrive and make their way to the real Lebanese capital Damascus, not Beirut–and appeal for help.

boo
US Postal Service has a ceremony in Yankee Stadium today! What kind of sign is that?
:omg:
will they be setting off firecrackers?
she said “Angel of the Morning” :pent:
Chip Taylor wrote the song. Merrillee Rush popularized it in the 1960s. Juice Newton made it popular again in the 1980s. I like the song’s message.
Heh heh…Kevin is too old for Katherine!!
So I was just heading down to pick up chinese food for my very unhappy son (and lots of little absolute bottles in different flavors for me…and I dont even drink more than once or twice a year…) and I was listening to the beginning of the show…the calls. Was the patrick who called in our PJ? or Patraig of SGS?…who gave the ice cream?
Kat I will look and see if I maybe edited Lawton out….are you sure he wasnt on the night before?
I’ll check.
Me too…The Pretenders have a pretty good version as well
Thanks Kev, by the way….Im always ready to take everything down, so its good to get feedback.
I am going to do art today.
PJ- thanks for the pics…I love them! Can I use them sometime on my blog?
I did not hear the Pretender’s version. I saw Merrillee Rush at an outdoor concert once. She has some sort of R&B review. I remember Rolling Stone Trashing all of her LPs in one of their books. I love her version of that song, though. Very sentimental.
mmmm art
I like her version also. Not so nuts about Juice Newton, though I’ll still listen to it because it’s a great song. Chrissie Hynde does it justice.
I had no idea that the Pretenders covered it.
yeah. I’ll add it to my profile page when I get a chance and you can hear it
I am waiting for him to sing Angel of the Morning.
is he definitely going to sing it?
Lyrics for: Angel Of The Morning
There’ll be no strings to bind your hands
not if my love can’t bind your heart.
And there’s no need to take a stand
for it was I who chose to start.
I see no need to take me home,
I’m old enough to face the dawn.
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
then slowly turn away from me.
Maybe the sun’s light will be dim
and it won’t matter anyhow.
If morning’s echo says we’ve sinned,
well, it was what I wanted now.
And if we’re the victims of the night,
I won’t be blinded by light.
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
then slowly turn away,
I won’t beg you to stay with me
Through the tears of the day,
of the years, baby baby baby.
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
it’s on my profile page now
I don’t think he will sing it. Too much water under…
yeah…oh well
So…do you like plushies?
I have a strictly platonic relationship with stuffed animals
The Tremeloes covered it, too. Weren’t they a one-hit band from the 1960s? “Silence is Golden, golden…”
So do I. I was just checking.
the name sounds familiar…
I am teasing you. The first I heard of such a thing was during rhat Morning Sedition show.
me thinks you’re picturing me with some kind of toy right now….
Hey Melina, sure, you can use those pix if you like.
Give me Clarabell the Clown, any day.
mmhmm
No. I prefer the sassy Bronx babe in her stylishly funky attire.
John Dean is on David’s show.
I am wurk’n and lurk’n around :billcat: :joe::smack:
and want us to “Form A Counsel”, SELF-DECLARE us as Law (as toxic slime did), Throw The ToxicSlime and his toxic administration OUT, set this Nation on the correct path – thus the World, and then get Ice Cream for All us MSists:!:
PJ thanks for “giving” us a home during these times, especially,
AND GET ENOUGH SLEEP PLEASE, We Need You:wink:
Great PIXS and THX re AM disappearance.

Tell your “sis” anytime :nod:oooOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo:wink:
Radio star 666 on board. :omg:
John Dean is actually interesting, I heard him on a different Air America show recently, I forgot which one…
Theodore Adorno and Max Horkheimer did these studies. Frankfurt School.
Herbert Marcuse was out of the Frankfurt School.
Horkheimer/Adorno: Dialectic of Enlightenment. Translated by John Cumming. New York, 1989:
Myth is already enlightenment; and enlightenment reverts to mythology. p. XVI

“Everything unknown and alien is primary and undifferentiated: that which transcends the confines of experience; whatever in things is more than their previously known reality. What the primitive experiences in this regard is not a spiritual as opposed to a material substance, but the intricacy of the Natural in contrast to the individual. The gasp of surprise which accompanies the experience of the unusual becomes its name. It fixes the transcendence of the unknown in relation to the known, and therefore terror as sacredness. The dualization of nature as appearance and sequence, effort and power, which first makes possible both myth and science, originates in human fear, the expression of which becomes explanation. It is not the soul which is transposed to nature, as psychologism would have it; mana, the moving spirit, is no projection, but the echo of the real supremacy of nature in the weak souls of primitive men. The separation of the animate and the inanimate, the occupation of certain places by demons and deities, first arises from this pre-animism, which contains the first lines of the separation of subject and object. When the tree is no longer approached merely as tree, but as evidence for an Other, as the location of mana, language expresses the contradiction that something is itself and at one and the same time something other than itself, identical and not identical…
the book should be interesting. I’ll peruse it on my work break at the book store next door
I am about ready to buy Palast’s new book. Buy it through Powwells.com. Tell them KPOJ sent me, and I won’t have to pay postage.
Dean’s book, or Horkheimer and Adorno’s book?
that’s another good one I heard
Dean’s book and palast’s book. The other one, just another to add to the list
I am kidding. That musty book is a hard read. read it after you’ve tackled Das Kapital.
Have you checked out
The Rotting Goddess
?oh no, I want to! I have to order it online I guess, haven’t seen it on the shelves (didn’t really expect to around here)
Fifty years ago, the Authoritarian Personality studies attempted to “construct an instrument that would yield an estimate of fascist receptivity at the personality level.”
The concept of authoritarian personality denotes a number of qualities, which according to the theories of Theodor Adorno and his colleagues predict one’s potential for fascist and antidemocratic leanings and behaviors. These qualities are assessed by a coherent system–the “structure of personality”–which arises out of characteristic experiences in early childhood and the pattern of internal, psychic processing.
wow. That instrument would be humming and going off the scales among the public in the United States these days…
This line of reasoning, about Authoritarian personality, has its critics. People feel that the theory over reaches. Over stated. But can be useful. I’ll bet Dean’s book will be a good read.
I don’t know if it overreaches. of course I didn’t read in depth what it says. But there’s a real scary need in many people for this kind of control
True. But how many people do not fall into the fascist group who had abusive upbringings? (Many seek the guidance and control of a dominatrix.)
Hey. No dispute here. Let me dig out an old Chomsky book where he remarks on this issue.
George Allen. Stupid clown! Stupider than Ronald Reagan?
he is kind of moronic…
there are some really dumbass politicians. He’s one.
I believe Reagan to be one of the worst examples of an ignorant clown politician. How he became a governor and then president baffles me. How would that creep make out in today’s climate? Virginians are hounding Allen with “Felix” Allen. (Personally, I like the name Felix.)
Reagan would have laughable except that he was running the country. That made him scary. People looked up tohim, though. Felix means happy 🙂
I think I was of the age to hate a buffoon like Reagan. I don’t hate Bush the way I hated Reagan. Yes, if he had not become president, I would look at him today the way I look at, say, Jack Webb. He made some campy silly Anti-Communist movies in the 1950s.
It was when Reagan was president that I started to become aware of politics and what conservatives were all about and what they wanted America to become. I also felt the gains of the 60s being taken away and pushed aside, it was when I first heard the term “family values” and signaled the yuppies’ takeover and that greed was glorified in this country and people were now allowed to be greedy. The 80’s had some good music but other than that it was a terrible time.
BRONX, N.Y., July 15 /PRNewswire/ — Four big bats: Mickey Mantle, Roy Campanella, Hank Greenberg and Mel Ott were immortalized on postage at Yankee Stadium’s home plate today as the Postmaster General, joined by the Hall of Famers’ family members, dedicated the “Baseball Sluggers” commemorative stamps and stamped postal cards. The ceremony took place before a sellout crowd of more than 54 thousand prior to the opening pitch of the New York Yankees – Chicago White Sox game.
Anything about firecrackers here?
:omg:
Palast is on Malloy’s show.
so along with the volcano script we now have a new one: post office, firecrackers, and baseball
yeah, I have it on
Reagan opened the door for these cons. In today’s climate, Reagan would be a flaming liberal.
that says a lot :omg:
Mantle was one of the very best players ever, until the modern steroid superstars came along. Bonds sort of makes Mantle look like a decent bush leaguer.
Well Bonds is sort of like an Arnold Schwarzenager-Terminator while Mantle was like a talented but human player. Kind of unfair comparison.
I remember in the late 1980’s, I was at a talk about Israel. The speaker said that Israel’s leaders were very rightwing. I brought up Reagan. He said, “Compared to Shamir, Reagan is a flaming liberal.”
I wouldn’t have believed at the time that someone much more extreme than Reagan would eventually be president in the United States. I had a feeling it was going to get bad but I just didn’t know how bad.
Israel has always been run by their right wing, hasn’t it?
Reagan was all into killing the New Deal. He thought it would make the economy grow. He did a fair job of weakening it. Bush is furthering the campaign. Both got support from Democrats. Policies to transfer wealth from the poor to the wealthy.
Agatha and Rats and Cats and tea:joe: and now Cat…:rofl2:
Sorry Danu, you too:love:
But I am mostly reading :):eek:
Hi folk:)
Domestically, they have been social democratic. Much more than we are. Their foreign policy can be quite aggressive.
Palast (sp) and John Dean THANK YOU:!:
I want to hear Mexican music now. Hey, Druid
I obviously need to read more about the Middle East
I am reading some books (slowly, since reading others too) that you might find “creepy” (and they are not “fun” sci/fi fan ones).:fustrate::paranoid:
creepy book that isn’t sci fi…could you possibly be reading Ann Coulter’s latest tract???
Ann Rice’s Sleeping Beauty series?
don’t know if those are “creepy,” I’d have to read them first… :omg:
I guess the name Ann set me off. No. they are not creepy, but the stories can creep into your mind if you are not careful.
Hey, I totally LOVED Ann Rice’s Sleeping Beauty series. (:spank::spank: :rofl2:)
Well, now that I don’t have competing windows to contend with, I’m back. Hopefully next time we hear Marc’s voice it’ll be someplace I don’t need my computer for. I’m sad that he’s gone from AAR but I’m not going to miss the nightly battle with the stream.
So I spent today hiking and contemplating (that’s a fancy word for napping) and I think I’m ready to face a Maron-free week next week. So long as I have a blog-sib backup, at any rate.
And now I must share my recipe for the day and get back to the stove where it’s going to be prepared.
Susan Joy, :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:Coulter would be really scary:omg:
NickiRose , Rice would be “fun”…
:oops:I see I must of baited too much so I will just say one series since I don’t want to “string along”= Nietzsche
I just might read some of it
Erotica written under the pseudonym A. N. Roquelaure:
* The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (1983)
* Beauty’s Punishment (1984)
* Beauty’s Release (1985)
1980s! I wonder if she wrote them then, or merely published them then?
Which book by Nietzsche?
hey everyone…just headng to bed but wanted to say that the Times put Rich out a little while ago just as I was blogging on ripcoco, so I stuck it on the end there for anyone who wants to ready it. He is just so good!
Nite all…
I think I remember hearing that they were written prior to her Vampire novels. So they could be from the 80’s or older since I think the first Vampire novel came out around 1990 or so
thanks, Melina. I’ll go take a look either tonight or tomorrow if I’m just too tired to really read
Interview with the Vampire is a novel by Anne Rice written in 1973 and published in 1976 by Alfred A. Knopf. The book centers on themes of immortality, loss, sexuality, and power. It quickl
I thought I just read that the first vampire novel came out in 1973. Interview…
really? Maybe you’re right. I’ve seen some ones in the series that were fairly recent but there could be a large gap of time between books I suppose
Right now, Thus Spake Zarathustra…
He I am reading because he was misunderstood and is a Libra and I like to know as part of a GENERAL “those in power search.”…but the other one :barf::growl::jason:..
Interview was ok, but The Vampire Lestat was really much better. I liked the Lestat character quite a bit (as opposed to Louis who was in the Interview book)
Joementum Lieberman suspects that Iran is behind the actions of the Hezbollah guerillas that started our most recent chapter of war round the world. According to the Stamford Advocate, our local paper here, he just wanted to throw that out there, “raise the question…” in his own words, because…?…well, no reason really except to hear himself whine…er…talk. He also suspects Syria, and views it as some “…flexing of terrorist muscles…” to distract us from their nuclear weapon development and our opposition of it…huh? Whatever….
Strangely, on the same page of the newspaper is a little story about Bill Clinton saying that he doesnt understand why everyone is coming down so hard on poor Joe for his support for the Iraq war. I believe that Bill actually said this before Joe announced that he would seek “independent Democratic” status (totally made up, no?) and I also think that Bill, speaking from a conference in Aspen is maybe a little out of the loop or too inside the Bush loop to be seeing this for what it is…
Go to the blog?
Who is the translator of your edition of “Also Sprach Zarathustra”?
Anne Rice once did a promo–aactually, a long intro–for Little Steven’s Underground Garage.”
Bill Clinton defending Lieberman. Vomit much? Yes
I pulled that from Melina’s blog.
NickiRose, Dover – Thrift- Edition UNABRIDGED
I have not read any of Anne Rice’s books, except for the first erotic one.
Did somebody named Levy translate it?
Thomas Common.
TRANSLATED by Thomas Common sorry,
she does weave a lot of erotic themes into her general fiction. A lot of her books are quite sexy. Her vampires are definitely sexy.
Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for None and All — by Friedrich Nietzsche, Walter Kaufmann (Preface); Paperback
Buy new: $10.78 — Used & new from: $1.72
That’s what I get for running and just glancing…
so is Common 8)? But also isn’t equally as important as who edits?
Get a more recent version. Kaufmann did his in the 1950s. I saw some recent translations from the 1990s. Try one.
Is this the one that the sister released???
You have committed one of the greatest stupidities—for yourself and for me! Your association with an anti-Semitic chief expresses a foreignness to my whole way of life which fills me again and again with ire or melancholy. … It is a matter of honour with me to be absolutely clean and unequivocal in relation to anti-Semitism, namely, opposed to it, as I am in my writings. I have recently been persecuted with letters and Anti-Semitic Correspondence Sheets. My disgust with this party (which would like the benefit of my name only too well) is as pronounced as possible.
— Friedrich Nietzsche, Letter to His Sister, Christmas 1887
I want the one that the “sis” took forever to release… the female rats are in my desk cauldron (luckily not lit :billcat:)
Common’s translation was part of a series that came out about 100 years ago. It was an ambitious project, but the translations left much to be desired. Walter Kaufmann made a number of good translations, starting in the 1950s. I’ve seen translations by others lately. (Kaufmann has been criticized for monopolizing the field, and frightening others from translating Nietzsche. However, Kaufmann has been dead for over 20 years.)
NickiRose, Thank You … I will copy if okay by you:-(:D
Give me vampire!:omg:
:::bites his neck:::
I have one Rice novel now. Not sure which one.
:oops:I thought Common was more academic…but I will check this other Nietzsche out…..(I do not use Amazon since mostly rethug oriented. Barnes and Noble I believe is better…..where I now live I am lucky to have a book. (But I do have them BRING ME A COPY, of important titles…
I have
The Mummy
by Anne Rice.Susie or Susan or whatever (a joke :D)
I was going to say that Susan would know about doing 5,000,322 things at once……:smack::wink:
And didn’t I see Melina HI :wink::billcat:
Oh! I loved that. Not a vampire novel but really good.
NickiRose, (how’s roses teehee ❓
OOOOOoooooooOOOO  One Of My Favorites:!:
I remember reading a novel set in late 1970s Egypt. Ramses treasure stuff. The novel started by going back to grave robbers from a few thousand years ago.
The mummy I think started in modern day Egypt, but most of the novel took place around the very beginning of the 20th century
RED ROSE
Tea? Rose hips tea? Rosicrucian tea?No. The one I read was not by Anne Rice. It was more of a LeCarre style of novel.
I have a fiction book called “Ramses” which is part of a series, I think, sitting on my shelf…someone gave it to me. I haven’t gotten to it yet.
Sorry, rats:!: 2nd phrase of rats need to be taken back-they are running all over computer.
Melina, Does Will like rats (and not to feed snakes – wicked teehee)
People feed frozen rats to the pet snakes.

S_joy, you sound like me:rofl2:.

Ever since John, the servant of God, wrote the Book of Revelation and mentioned the number 666, people have been trying to figure out the meaning of the mark of the beast. The number is mentioned in Revelation 13:16-18.
I believe the mark or number of the beast will be a financial identification system that the Antichrist will establish during the tribulation. He will use the mark as a tool for controlling all aspects of society.
The Antichrist will make it compulsory for everyone to have a tiny microchip implanted under the skin of the right hand or on the forehead. The microchip will hold various amounts of data pertaining to each person who receives the implant. Right now, the technology exists to fully implement this system. From here on out, the only changes will be in how much information those microchips will be able to hold.
Everyone who receives the mark will also have to swear allegiance to the Antichrist and acknowledge him as the supreme authority. This is why all who take the mark of the beast will be condemned to hell. All who choose not to receive the mark will be unable to buy anything because cash, checks, and credit cards will all be replaced by the beast system’s instant funds.
As time has passed, we have lost the true meaning of the mark of the beast. Even though it is clearly defined as a mark that will be placed upon the right hand or forehead, a number of people throughout history have attached new and even weird meanings to the number 666. The number has become trivialized by its repeated association with its every random occurrence. Some folks have believed the beast’s number was to be a certain year. Because of this, the year 666 AD was at one time considered the date for the advent of the Antichrist. When that date came and went without incident, many began to anticipate the year 1666 with dread. Nostradamus pointed to the year 1999 as an inverted 666 year.
Because the beast’s number will have something to do with the Antichrist’s name, scholars have been busy working equations to figure which world leaders have had names equaling 666 in some way. Depending on how you figure it, 666 can be made to add up to just about anyone’s name.
A number of people have superstitions or phobias about this number. One person refused to ride in a car that had a license plate with 666 on it. Another person I know adds a stick of gum or something to his purchases if his check-out total at the store is triple six in any way. When President and Mrs. Reagan moved out to California, their house number was, you guessed it, 666. They had it changed to 668. Any time a bill numbered 666 is produced by a governing body like the UN or Congress, prophecy watchers give the document a good going-over to see if it has a connection with end-time events.
:omg:
What would you feed the pet snakes?
they try to implant something over here and they will fail :fu: Damn that Bush administration
the blood of Christian babies
I don’t know what I’m saying. It’s late :joe:

The mask of polite society falls from me in the late hours and I fullfill my true destiny. Or something. :sdavid::omg::pent:
Isn’t that what they use in that there holy bread of theirs?
Shush. Just rumors. I snack on other things.
Hi all, just stopping in to scan the posts, wanted to say hi so I’m not a total lurker. I overdid it on the post-show edible pot last night, trying to calm myself down, and was too muddle headed most of today, but I think my brain cells are firing up again, just in time to go to sleep. I have to be up at a decent hour tomorrow, so I’ll say hi and bye, good to see you all here. I usually don’t have as much time to come here as I did this week, so please feel free to keep in touch. Janice aka ex-ny’er, you can reach me at gata at infinex dot com. G’night all…
I found stationary I have been missing — and a few ……..I found The Antichrist:banana:
The Son of sam movie is on HBO.
1970s NYC!
I knew Son of Sam
He lived in my building twice. First in my old Bronx neighborhood on Stratford AVenue, then in Co-op City. He was older than us so none of us hung around with him. But we all knew him, and my mom was friends with his (adopted) mom
NickiRose,…And by the way Ditto…..regarding most of your beliefs re Anti… especially Mathmatical theories, Wall Street, and Micro Tech-stuff in palm or wherever Concept,

Yeah, no shit. Fun times. Girls weren’t allowed to go outside after dark that summer. 1977.
I do not know if anyone is on, but I wanted to say it was nice to be a part of somthing that was very heartfelt last night. I was new to the show, and it seems like all of you have been here awhile. So in short thanks and I hope he will be back soon!
WOW! I did not realize what a freaking killer he was. I thought he was just an occasional serial killer. (Bad enough, though.)
Ted Bundy stalked girls at the college I went to. And at the local mall. Long before I went there.
you’re welcome to come back anytime, we’re a friendly bunch, Moonlightman. 😉 (though strange)
He went after girls with long dark hair. Check out the neighborhoods in the Bronx where he stalked them: Co-op City, Pelham Bay. northeast Bronx, right where I lived.
I sounds right up my alley! Thanks. I can tell this is a good place.
MoonLightMan, You (as a newer one on MSists) and others were going to mentioned yesterday but I was being cut off (but always  TMMS) …
Druid, your thoughts are so kind. I did not deserve it anyway. I feel people that have been loyal supporters deserve the reward. I thought it was so kind of you to care for all who could not call in. It shows such warmth here. I have never really “blogged” before so to hear a show and hear the people voices and blog at the same time was really surreal.
isi “is in the house” I am reading what you sent:wink:

ZNet | Israel/Palestine
Israel/Palestine
by Noam Chomsky and Amy Goodman; Democracy Now; July 15, 2006
AMY GOODMAN: We’re joined on the phone right now by Noam Chomsky, professor of linguistics and philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, author of dozens of books. His latest is Failed States: The Abuse of Power and the Assault on Democracy. In May, he traveled to Beirut, where he met, among others, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. He joins us on the phone from Masachusetts. We welcome you to Democracy Now!
NOAM CHOMSKY: Hi, Amy.
AMY GOODMAN: It’s good to have you with us. Well, can you talk about what is happening now, both in Lebanon and Gaza?
NOAM CHOMSKY: Well, of course, I have no inside information, other than what’s available to you and listeners. What’s happening in Gaza, to start with that — well, basically the current stage of what’s going on — there’s a lot more — begins with the Hamas election, back the end of January. Israel and the United States at once announced that they were going to punish the people of Palestine for voting the wrong way in a free election. And the punishment has been severe.
At the same time, it’s partly in Gaza, and sort of hidden in a way, but even more extreme in the West Bank, where Olmert announced his annexation program, what’s euphemistically called “convergence” and described here often as a “withdrawal,” but in fact it’s a formalization of the program of annexing the valuable lands, most of the resources, including water, of the West Bank and cantonizing the rest and imprisoning it, since he also announced that Israel would take over the Jordan Valley. Well, that proceeds without extreme violence or nothing much said about it.
Gaza, itself, the latest phase, began on June 24. It was when Israel abducted two Gaza civilians, a doctor and his brother. We don’t know their names. You don’t know the names of victims. They were taken to Israel, presumably, and nobody knows their fate. The next day, something happened, which we do know about, a lot. Militants in Gaza, probably Islamic Jihad, abducted an Israeli soldier across the border. That’s Corporal Gilad Shalit. And that’s well known; the first abduction is not. Then followed the escalation of Israeli attacks on Gaza, which I don’t have to repeat. It’s reported on adequately.
The next stage was Hezbollah’s abduction of two Israeli soldiers, they say on the border. Their official reason for this is that they are aiming for prisoner release. There are a few, nobody knows how many. Officially, there are three Lebanese prisoners in Israel. There’s allegedly a couple hundred people missing. Who knows where they are?
But the real reason, I think it’s generally agreed by analysts, is that — I’ll read from the Financial Times, which happens to be right in front of me. “The timing and scale of its attack suggest it was partly intended to reduce the pressure on Palestinians by forcing Israel to fight on two fronts simultaneously.” David Hirst, who knows this area well, describes it, I think this morning, as a display of solidarity with suffering people, the clinching impulse.
It’s a very — mind you — very irresponsible act. It subjects Lebanese to possible — certainly to plenty of terror and possible extreme disaster. Whether it can achieve any result, either in the secondary question of freeing prisoners or the primary question of some form of solidarity with the people of Gaza, I hope so, but I wouldn’t rank the probabilities very high.
The fall and decline of ancient the Bronx – New York, NY’s Bronx district – Artists’ Statements
Annie Lanzillotto
“The Peoples’ Voice Cafe is an alternative coffeehouse providing a space for artistic expression of a wide variety of humanitarian issues and concerns,” but this is not where we are. We are on Arthur Avenue, where men ran out of the cafes to overturn a city bus as a protest to keep blacks out, in the city that listened, immediately rerouting the bus service. But that was the seventies and this is 1997. True, White Castle is still the hamburger joint on the comer and a white castle the neighborhood still thinks it is, but something has happened now that could not have happened then, when this was the absolute throne of the Bronx underworld. The Trojan Horse has entered, in the guise of a baby grand piano. Artists have set up shop in the market, alongside the potatoes and onions. Mussolini’s portrait hangs behind the provolones, and now you might find a lesbian performance artist singing “summertime and the livin’ is easy,” right across the aisle. Artists have infiltrated, to make an opera in the market, and highlight the opera that is already there, daily. The performers’ arms are around jailhouse widows in the sing-a-long of “O’ Sole Mio.” This is the only market where ex-mob wives can come back and be guaranteed free pancreas wrapped in parsley and intestine for deeds once done by the men they married. These merchants have not forgotten. These women are recognized. Tasting figs they are recognized. They wear their husbands’ and fathers’ names like overcoats and the rain keeps off them and the wind boomerangs the other way. These people have refused to forget, just as they refused assimilation. Americanization is a four-letter word that means to be swallowed up in the main stomach. Few politicians can carry the vote here. The street gets wiped clean before Giuliani comes for lunch, but the sentiment is split about him. It was he who swept out the candy store bookies, “the old men who weren’t bothering anybody,” in his wave of what is seen as anti-Italian-Americanism. This neighborhood has had the lowest crime rate in the world. Imagine that?! The Bronx, of all places, can boast the lowest crime rate in the world. Two square blocks kept by an unseen hand in a white glove.
I walk up and down these aisles like I walk around the Roman Forum. I must imagine what this place was at the height of its life, when Fascism and Catholicism went hand in hand unchallenged. Jesus Christ hangs upright beside Benito Mussolini. Where Italy has changed, this Bronx has not. The merchants and patrons here keep alive the Italy of the eighteenth century. The dialects spoken in these stalls you won’t hear even in their native ravines. The foods sold here are soon to be extinct. Mario is not teaching anyone how to wrap a pancreas in parsley and intestine. The knowledge of his hands is not being passed on. This recipe is not on the Internet. Maybe that’s not such a bad idea.
I gave myself the same challenge I give all artists. “Go home.” Challenge yourself to go home and do your work. Work with the mentalities that you fled in your development. I pose the same challenge to myself. Can I work with the closed-minded Eurocentric anti-intellectual working-class Bronx Italian-Americans I grew up with? I was scornful of middle-class white artists who worked with the most marginalized communities they could imagine, easy prey for all their projections. “Make a video about Park Avenue women instead,” I told a peer who was curious about dabbling in prison work. “That’s where you come from, so you have that insight. You have the in. You know these women. Who are they?” I am rebelling against the value system of the downtown artist communities. The glorification of sexy urban detritus, as stage set. The values that discourage “working” with family. The values that want to be supported. The values of those who want to pass on “making money.” I am tired of the anesthetized audience. At the market, the butchers pound their cleavers when the tenor misses a note. The patrons shout like a sports audience. I like that. The fourth wall is not even a remote possibility. A performer must communicate, for these merchants are the best performers and storytellers in the world. And their countertops – the best stages.
ANNIE LANZILLOTTO, writer and performance artist, produces works in communities to express local histories. The Arthur Avenue Retail Market Project is commissioned by Dancing in the Streets’ On SITE/NYC Fund.
good article. That area of the Bronx is called Little Italy (There’s another Little Italy in Manhattan). It’s right in the middle of a bad neigbhorhoods. I disagree that it hasn’t changed though, in the last few years it’s started to change somewhat, unfortunately
