Ah, well, as we reach the end of another week, I’m starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Two weeks from tonight, I’ll be packing my shit. For now, though, I guess I’ll try and figure out how to kill another weekend. “Who Killed the Electric Car” opens here in DC tonight, so I reckon I’ll try and catch that. Otherwise, I guess I’ll lay low and try not to become another July DC murder stat.
I’m finally listening to the last Marc Maron shows – I’m up to the July 11th show, just at the end of the final Sveltlana segment. Not many left to go. I listened to the interview with Frank Schaeffer yesterday, about his “AWOL” book. It was interesting, because I’d caught an interview with him on CSPAN radio while driving around a week or two ago. Marc’s interview was a million times better. I hope he gets back on the “air” in one form or another soon.
Good Morning pj and all . Yes hope Marc finds his way back to radio ,XM would be great but it’s not ez to get on there :fire:

so do you have to create your own myspace page in order to become someone’s myspace friend (ie Marc’s)?
SATELLITE BROTHERS!
webhubble – i was also thinking it was landis’ upbringing that brought him to brilliance yesterday. It was definitely an inner strength.
Yes, you have to have a myspace page to become someone’s friend. (I’m listed as Phoeners due to somebody stealing my name. Yes, I’m still pissed.)
And somebody pointed out that Marc’s already removed Jim Earl from his friends. Wha?
Gotta run, youze guys have a nice day.
Did he? Maybe it was a fake Jim Earl. I clicked on one of his “friends” yesterday, and it was really just a bunch of dirty pictures. The more I looked them over, the more disgusted I got. After three or four hours, I was quite irate.
Evil puppet-master Dick Cheney is in Tampa today. He’s here for a gun-safety class, I mean a fundraiser, for a congressional candidate whose main “qualification” for the office is that he is the son of the Repig who is currently holding the office and retiring.
I’m pissed that I didn’t find out about this until after work yesterday, when it was too late to ask for today off. Otherwise I would be on the bus to Tampa with protest sign in hand RIGHT NOW! (Kinda like Mike Malloy sticking pins in his Bush voodoo doll RIGHT NOW!) 😆
Of course, I would sharpen the end of the stick just in case I got close enough to… you know. And bring some garlic along too.
The evil one is scheduled for a lunchtime appearance. Today’s forecast is for thunderstorms, dark clouds and lightning beginning late this morning and continuing into the afternoon. Coincidence? You decide.
:jason::jason::jason:
BTW, I put up Marc’s appearance on last night’s MR over there on the right, under Multimedia. It’s in mp3 format (right-click/save as), about 19 minutes, 3.3 Megs.

Well I called Udall’s office and asked them why Mark voted that way and they said … “well its not a binding resolution” .. Then I asked them if they really wanted my vote in November and they said “well its to late to have a primary” and noted it was never to late for a special election… They seemed confused..:jason::jason::jason:

I believe debate should be between Dems and Grns, and put all republicans on probation since they did not “stand against” bush and his administration. All who believe in The End Times can “no longer play” in the political arena — since they do not believe in The Future–unless IN THE PAST they “voiced” against Bush: NOW is too late!

Americans have never been very good at history and probably can’t rationalize why anyone would want to be a gorilla aka freedom fighter.. It won’t be until someone blows up, captures and tortures, imprisons for no cause, beats up or builds a wall around, either them and/or their close relatives. It will be interesting to see how they feel about it even twenty years down the line. :gate::omg::jason:
But that is happening regarding certain issues in America, to some Americans, by certain vainglorious Business americans. There are many Americans rotting in jail “for ringing” the Freedom Bell.

This is only one example, but Americans do not want to hear or see how some TRUE Americans were bombed here and even killed here. But the horrid businessmen (and yes the ones involved were men) got only their wants. So it is happening here, to some which most do not want to see.
I think that might be helping in my :-(:fu::growl::fist::jason: state for the atrocities and killings happening in Lebanon and Israel. All must STOP THE KILLINGS, NOW. And then I hear bolton…:barf:

Bernie Saunders is a platitude spewing sack of S* aka typical dem politician.. ( he’s an independent but..)
He voices all these thoughts that sound so good but then he always says,, but,,but,,, with the rethugs in control we have no power WAAAAAAAAA.
If the demodorps manage to get the house back then it will be but .. but.. we could not get our legislation through the senate WAAAAAAAA..
If some how the dems get both houses back it will be but… but.. we couldn’t reach a consensus WAAAAAAAAA.
:gate::omg::gate::omg::jason::jason::jason::jason::fist:
The way the rules are in the House, it’s absolutely imfuckingpossible to get anything through if the majority party doesn’t let you. That’s just how it is. Can’t add amendments – can’t even introduce amendments – if they won’t let you. And even if you manage to get an amendment added and passed, they can just remove in conference. If you haven’t already, read this article in Rolling Stone about Bernie trying to work the process.
From the WSJ
Russia’s Putin and Germany’s Merkel called for concerted international efforts to end the conflict in Lebanon, the Kremlin said. During telephone talks between Putin and Merkel, the two leaders emphasized “the need for concerted efforts by the international community to normalize the situation in the Middle East and highlighted the U.N. Security Council’s role in the process,” a Kremlin statement said.
==============================
With veto power any member of the security council can veto any resolutions .. I suppose they could just use the UN to agree on something and then put it in motion among the agreeing nations and leave Bushco out entirely. it wouldn’t be a UN resolution but…
They need to do something soon.. Israeli troops are massing at the Lebanon border.

Saunders could get on the TeeVee and yell and scream or even on Democracy Now and yell and scream the only place I hear anything from him is on Hartman’s show.
The only way these people want to solve problems is through elections.. THEY DON’T F*ing work. Two F*ing years is about 20 months to long to get these Yo Yo’s out of office.:jason::jason::jason::jason:
Well, unfortunately, that’s how it works. I’ve actually heard quite a bit from old Bernie, and I don’t get Hartmann. For a congressman from a little district in VT, he actually gets out there pretty good. I would venture to guess there are very few of the 400+ congresspeople that anybody every heard of.

===> DON’T KNOW WHAT IT SAYS ABOVE PICTURE, THOUGH
Hey you guys,
I emailed Marc Maron:love::love::love: (and may the good lord:priest: forgive me for being the stalker girl:bow::bow::bow: that I am, and here is what I said, more or less:
I just read that AAR has been given a big infusion of cash. What I and many others would like to know is this: if they called you tomorrow and said they wanted to meet your demands, would you say yes? In other words, should we be actively pestering them? Or should we forget about it? and he emailed me back, I’m paraphrasing here:
that he feels bad about losing the show, and that he is still amenable to them making him an offer.
So to me, that means we should be calling and emailing the AAR people. Will someone who knows what they’re doing (ie not me) give some numbers and email addresses of AAR people who make decisions? I don’t think it’s a dead cause yet I swear. :fire:
Okay, blog sibs, it’s Friday. Apparently that’s a good thing.
But this being the Friday that marks the 1-week anniversary (weekiversary?) of the end of the Marc Maron Show, I’m less than enthused. Plus it’s going to be in the hundreds here in Portland and if I want to get out into the woods at all I’ll have to leave the house at like 5:30 AM. But then I read that we’ve got serious fire conditions in Forest Park and they’re recommending people be extra cautious. And I trust most people as far as I can throw them so…ARGHHH!!!!!!
I’m taking a vacation in August. I have nothing planned. Anyone who might be thinking of visiting Portland could find me a really enthusiastic tour guide that week. If my car were happier I’d drive to Seattle but it’s an unhappy car this summer. Maybe I could bus. sbluefox, do you have a day off between the 7th and the 11th? (Okay, the 11th is out because I’m going camping that weekend but the rest of the week is wide open.)
My mother is still crying about Israel. She keeps saying, “No, no, this is not the Jewish way!” I think I’ll avoid telling her Bill O’Liely’s latest insanity. (If that link doesn’t work, it’s the latest alternet post about Loofah Boy.)
Kieran, just curious, did you email Marc at marc@marcmaron.com? Or some other address? I don’t need to know the address (Like I won’t share Jim’s. Then again, I won’t USE Jim’s…) I’m just wondering if he actually checks that mail. He does check his messages on myspace, at least some of the time, but doesn’t seem to answer them, at least not anything I’ve sent him.
Hey Gypsy, yeah, that’s the address I used. I honestly think it is a really positive sign that he answered me because I think it means he wants us to do what we can on his behalf. I for one think all the emailing and the petition for MS we did helped him get his LA show. We all know he doesn’t like to get involved in email back and forths with listeners.:bow::bow: Pjsauter: how the hell did you get these characters to move? Cool!:fist:
PJ The Blog King has AAR contact info on the right side under “pages,” keiran! =>
thanks for the update.

you get the idea 😉
Thanks for the update, kieran!! I’ve e-mailed Jon Sinton so many times, I think it wouldn’t be a good idea for me to e-mail again. But for those who haven’t, here ’tis: jsinton@airamericaradio.com.
The last time I e-mailed him, I said I hoped that both parties were leaving the door open for a future program should a mutually agreeable opportunity arise. I also suggested he get to work on getting a new New York affiliate and get rid of the Satellite Sisters. 🙄
His response: “Thanks, Jill….we’re taking your advice.” What that means, I have no idea, but it is certainly hopeful.
On Marc’s last show, he mentioned “Uncle Dougie”, who is Doug Kreeger. Kreeger also “gets it” about Marc Maron, and I think that he’s a good person to e-mail too: dkreeger@airamericaradio.com.
Marc would not have left with such class — and he repeated his gratitude to AAR on Majority Report last night — if he weren’t leaving the door open.
Marc is many things, but he’s not stupid — and he knows at this point that you don’t burn your bridges. He’s really grown a LOT as a person in the last 2 years; he seems less ruled by the emotions of the moment. And he’s done it without losing the funny.
And that’s why he is our zen master.:bow::love:
FK: Everything’s betta with feta!
Here’s a Greek pasta salad recipe that I make
1 large cucumber, cut into 1/2″ cubes
2 large tomatoes, diced
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
12 oz. multicolor rotini pasta
1 can small olives (or kalamata olives of your choice)
1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
Cook pasta. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop cooking. Toss with vegetables.
Make a dressing of:
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
oregano
garlic powder
salt & pepper to taste
Pour over salad and toss. Top with 1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley, olives, and FETA!!!!
Jill, I think the Satellite Sisters time slot would be an excellent fit for Marc. For me, too, because I could hear the entire show and not have to worry about getting to work.
Kreeger does indeed seem to be one of the good guys, and he definitely “gets it.”
I seem to recall that Butch hit on Kreeger at the City Bakery show.:love:
Bettah with Feta indeed!
Haven’t tried this one yet but as soon as I can breathe in my kitchen I’m going to give it a try. (I buy my feta in bulk from Costco. I put it in everything. Yummmmmmmm!)
Caramelized Onions, Chickpeas, Feta and Mint
Serves 4
3 tbsp olive oil
1 red chili, seeded and diced
2 red onions, peeled and sliced
4 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
2 tsp soft brown sugar
75ml / 5 tbsp red wine vinegar
200g Feta cheese, crumbled
2 x 400g cans chick peas, drained
a handful of fresh mint leaves
sea salt flakes and ground black pepper
Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add the chili, onions, garlic and sugar and cook very gently for 15 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent the onions from sticking. Add the vinegar, bring to the boil and cook for about 2 minutes until the vinegar has evaporated. Add all of the remaining ingredients, mix well and leave to stand for 15 minutes. Season and serve or chill until needed.
Hi all; stuck in my darkened cubicle (to avoid heat – we’re having a ‘heat wave’ here in SF, which means a sizzling [pause while I go check http://www.wunderground.com] 78 degrees (hey, this is San Fran-f’in-cisco, anything over 70 degrees is called a heat wave) 😯

A little Background History:
n 1982 Israel had a problem. Yasir Arafat, headquartered in Beirut, was making ready to announce that the PLO was prepared to sit down with Israel and embark on peaceful, good faith negotiations towards a two-state solution.
Israel didn’t want a two-state solution, which meant — if UN resolutions were to be taken seriously — a Palestinian state right next door, with water, and contiguous territory. So Israel decided chase the PLO right out of Lebanon. It announced that the Palestinian fighters had broken the year-long cease-fire by lobbing some shells into northern Israel.
Palestinians had done nothing of the sort. I remember this very well, because Brian Urquhart, at that time assistant secretary general of the United Nations, in charge of UN observers on Israel’s northern border, invited me to his office on the 38th floor of the UN hq in mid-Manhattan and showed me all the current reports from the zone. For over a year there’d been no shelling from north of the border. Israel was lying.
With or without a pretext Israel wanted to invade Lebanon. So it did, and rolled up to Beirut. It shelled Lebanese towns and villages and bombed them from the air. Sharon’s forces killed maybe 20,000 people, and let Lebanese Christians slaughter hundreds of Palestinian refugees in the camps of Sabra and Chatilla.
The killing got so bad that even Ronald Reagan awoke from his slumbers and called Tel Aviv to tell Israel to stop. Sharon gave the White House the finger by bombing Beirut at the precise times — 2.42 and 3.38 — of two UN resolutions calling for a peaceful settlement on the matter of Palestine.

Shultz again lies to his centrist misinformed audience
Shultz says there were hardly any protests in the US against the war ..
From Wickipedia
http://tinyurl.com/lrx23
These protests are said to be the biggest global peace protests before a war actually started; the peace movement is compared with the movement caused by the Vietnam War.
January 16, 2002
Protests were held worldwide in opposition to a war with Iraq, including in Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Argentina, and the United States, where Americans attended a rally in Washington, DC. The U.S. Park Police, which oversees activities on The Mall, stopped providing estimates of crowd size after being threatened with lawsuits by the organizers of the Million Man March, but said that protest organizers only had a permit for 30,000 demonstrators. According to rally organizers, more than 200,000 Americans were in attendance.
lots more at the link
The M$M did not cover them hence they did not happen ??
[E]ven without the benefit of historical instruction, a majority of Americans in CNN’s instant poll –- about 55 per cent out of 800,000 as of midday, July 19 — don’t like what Israel is up to.
Dislike is one thing, but at least in the short term it doesn’t help much. Israel’s 1982 attack on Lebanon grew unpopular in the US, after the first few days. But forcing the US to pressure Israel to settle the basic problem takes political courage, and virtually no US politician is prepared to buck the Israel lobby, however many families in Lebanon and Gaza may be sacrificed on the altar of such cowardice.

Schultz is merely following the propaganda approved of by the ruling classes: The American population did not protest the war. They said the same after the murderous, unjustified first Gulf War.
I think this is going to be my dinner tonight. Yummmmm! (Now I have feta on the brain!)
Feta-Herb Spread
1 32-ounce container low-fat or nonfat plain yogurt
1 clove garlic, crushed and peeled
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 cup crumbled feta cheese (about 4 ounces)
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1. Line a sieve with cheesecloth and spoon in yogurt. Set the sieve over a bowl, leaving at least 1 inch clearance at the bottom. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
2. Place garlic on a cutting board, sprinkle with salt and mash into a paste with the side of a chef’s knife. Transfer to a medium bowl. Add the drained yogurt (discard whey) and whisk until smooth. Stir in feta cheese, oil, parsley and oregano.

Radio stations are very sensitive to their ratings.. If you send them a contact email often enough they will deal in trickle down comments. If Marvin’s callers and on air comments are any indication his pro Israel stance is costing him listeners and he has heard about it from his Clear Channel management.
Alberto “Torquemada” Gonzales :fu: was supposed to be at a 7am breakfast in the Mission district this morning, invited by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, but it got cancelled, supposedly after word got out of the massive instant demo that would have happened. NickiRose, even during Gulf One there were people who looked right at the protests and said it wasn’t really a protest. I think it might be because we didn’t cause property damage.
I spent most of Gulf One drumming on the east steps of the capitol building in Denver. And most folks tell me that wasn’t protesting. That was just drumming.

New Confirmation Hearing Set Next Week for Bolton
(from Congressional Quarterly’s mid-day update)
Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Richard G. Lugar, R-Ind., today announced a July 27 hearing on the nomination of John R. Bolton, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations currently serving under a recess appointment that expires at the end of this year.
Republicans say it is critical to have a duly confirmed U.S. representative at the United Nations, given the crisis in the Middle East. They are expected to push for a Senate floor vote before the August recess.
But Democrats could again filibuster the nomination. Joseph R. Biden Jr., D-Del., said he would oppose Bolton’s appointment, as he did last year, when a filibuster blocked Bolton’s confirmation.
If Republicans are again unable to surmount a filibuster against Bolton, President Bush could give his U.N. ambassador a second recess appointment. However, if precedent is anything to go by, Bolton could not receive a salary the second time around.
Gypsy, did you manage to attend the $100,000 a plate fundraiser Bush Sr. held for Schwarz-a-nazi the other night?
Sorry about posting this long thing but you’ll see why….
And I posted 5. Not 7.

Duh, I was getting Hillsboro, OR, mixed up with *Hillsborough, CA* – neeever mind (a la Gilda Radner’s character). Hillsborough is a one of the wealthiest zip codes on the West Coast; no offense, but I was sort of wondering how you were living there. Highway 101 is the hellish freeway corridor between San Jose and San Francisco, hence the query about leaving Torquemada in the back of a broken down truck out there. Current temp in San Jose, CA: a refreshing 95 degrees, compared to Hillsboro, OR!!

More from CQ mid-day’s update:
Senate to Vote Next Week on Abortion Bill
Senate leaders have struck a deal to hold an up-or-down vote next week on legislation that would make it a federal crime to take minors across state lines to obtain abortions in order to circumvent state parental notification and consent laws.
Under the terms of the agreement, senators will consider several amendments before voting on the measure July 25. Among them is a Democratic proposal that would exempt grandparents and clergy members.
Bill sponsor John Ensign, R-Nev., argues that such an exemption is not necessary, because parental notification and consent laws in the states must give minors the option of seeking approval from a judge instead of her parents. That assures that another responsible adult can consider the girl’s plight.
The Senate is expected to pass Ensign’s legislation.
The House passed a similar bill by a 270-157 margin last year, after rejecting a similar grandparent/clergy exemption.
FOOKIN BASTIDS!!!!!!!:fu:
And this, which looks like good news:
CQ Politics.com reports that Democrat Joe Sestak, a retired Navy vice admiral, is showing unusual strength for a first-time candidate in his challenge to 10-term Republican Rep. Curt Weldon in Pennsylvania’s 7th District. Sestak registered strong fundraising numbers in his latest report to the Federal Election Commission , and other factors also show an increasingly competitive race. CQPolitics.com has changed its rating on the contest to Leans Republican from Republican Favored. Weldon still has an edge, but an upset by Sestak is a plausible possibility. CQPolitics.com presently ranks 37 districts — 26 held by Republicans and 11 by Democrats — as No Clear Favorite or Leans Democratic or Republican

WASHINGTON July 21 (Reuters) – An Israeli invasion of Lebanon is likely on Friday night, intelligence sources told NBC News, its affiliated network CNBC reported on Friday.
CNBC said an unidentified Western nation had also told NBC that Israeli troops were expected to enter Lebanon on Friday night.
Israeli spokesman Mark Regev, asked on CNN about reports of an imminent Israeli ground attack on Lebanon, said: “I can say the following. You have a threat there and we have to deal with the threat.
“We’ve had land incursions in the past and were going to have land incursions in the future. That’s part of our strategy to hit Hizbollah from the land, the sea and the air,” Regev said.

When I get back home, I’ll look at putting my MS collection onto DVD’s (I seem to recall it was about 6 or 7 gigs worth), and then getting them out to a mailing list (along with TMMS on CD – or maybe both shows on a couple of DVDs). Then we can set up a “tape” tree to pass them along. It won’t be for a couple of weeks, unfortunately.
I have what was available at AAP, which has some gaps in it. I’ll get together a lst of shows and see if we can’t fill in the gaps. Also still need a complete 7/10 TMMS (mine is short by about 20 edited minutes).
Oh, fred, this makes me cry. The world isn’t ready for both my mother and me crying.
:knit2:
Listening to Ms Rhodes aka Randi Rant… has she even mentioned anything about the pending invasion .. not that a bunch of old ladies hiding under their beds sucking their thumbs would probably want to know ..:shock::yuck:
Yeh, makes sense, #95. Friday night and Saturdays are the lowest ‘news’ (sic) attention days for the U.S. media. Unpopular moves like ground invasions, indictments of gov’t and corporate criminals, etc., are usually reserved these days for Fri afternoons and Saturdays. Most folks who do read newspapers or watch ‘news’ shows take a break Fridays and Saturdays. Not us news/politics junkies/gluttons for punishment, of course…
I’m alienating my co-workers when I start to curse and spit about Israel. They sympathize, but I’m still the :tinfoil: in my workplace.
Greetings All

Hey, PJ, would AAR have a fit if you put up the MS and MMS archives here? I don’t see how, since they don’t seem to want them. I’d kick in $$ for additional storage space and bandwidth.
I have a bunch of MS shows; I wanted to download them all but ran out of time.
Yeah, they might very well have a fit, and there are frequent visits from Piquant LLC here.
pjsauter, you prob do not want to deal re them, but I am just trying to understand…
…is Piquant LLC so interested cuz of the Name, here?
Good Evening geniuses! TGIF!!!!
Will has new casts…we had to go down to the city to get them…and then went over to see Papa Himie, who is…er…96-ish today….
Man, what a punishing week…last couple of days. I literally fell asleep while blogging last night and never got to post anything anywhere….
PJ and all, I have 28 episodes of MS in the Itunes folder in my ITunes. I guess I would burn them onto cd’s or dvd’s; let me know if you want exact dates. Email me at gata (at) infinex (dot) com. Gotta go now; have a good weekend, all, as best you can!
Oh, I don’t know who it is from AAR that visits. Could be Riley, or Kent Jones, or Rachel. Might be a suit. Or all of the above. Or it could be a cleaning person. It’s usually in the morning, fairly early, though it’s sometimes later on in the day.

The number of people who have been without power in Queens for five days now is actually closer to 100,000, not the figure of 2,000 customers that officials of Consolidated Edison had cited in previous days.
At a press conference in Queens, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg called the discrepancy annoying, and said that Con Edison apparently based its earlier count on the number of customers who complained to the utility company that they had no power, and not on any systematic assessment of the power outage.
“I think what is annoying is that their first estimate was done based on phone calls,” the mayor said, saying he should have directed them earlier just to drive around the area to get an actual count of the number of people whose power was out.
The mayor said some customers may not get power back until Sunday, and that Con Edison workers are trying to at least get traffic lights working by rush hour this evening.
His acknowledgment that the power problem was actually much larger than anyone had thought explains some of the anger and frustration heard in sections of Queens, where the system began to fail on Monday, the third day of a severe heat wave. The problem was probably aggravated by thunderstorms on Tuesday that also blew out power to thousands of other customers in the region.

I just got my power back on after 48 hours 43 minutes!
I am very happy. 😀
I’ll be able to sleep tonight.
i’m alive!
Congrats isi!! We had between 80 and 100 MPH winds down here in Philly, but I never lost power.
Well no more Janeane. Is this the end of AAR?
Well, I wrote to Sinton so far and will write Kreeger soon….I think that writing is a good idea just so that they know that we are aware and desirous of having him back!
I think that Marc is one of the bedrocks of the breakthrough that was/is AAR, and they are losing a ton of the funny in the loss of Jeaneane and then Al too…(not always my cuppa tea, but what are they gonna do?)
To replace that hole, unless they want to slip into a dry NPR place….and that wasnt the point of this experiment….they need to spend some cash on talent.
That is my point. I think that they should offer Marc more $ and stock or points in the corporation.
Thats part of Stern’s deal at Sirius…they didnt hand him 50 million or whatever it supposedly was, they gave him a stake in the thing.
Bring back the funny!! get rid of Springer (or at least move him) and let marc have Springer’s slot from LA!!!…or give him more to come back to NYC!!
What is gonna happen otherwise? I dont even want to think about it!
Yo Sean:!:
so america is still there i take it? no nuclear holocaust or anything?

No suprise that Bush flunkee Margaret Spelling, U.S. Education Secretary is pushing a $100 million dollar school voucher program for low-income students, which will transfer tax payer money away from public schools to private schools. Interesting study now shows what I long suspected, that children from this group do not do better, and in some cases do worse, in private schools (results of test scores).
Spellings didn’t comment on this, nor did she comment on the fact that quite often private schools are not held accountable and in many cases do not HAVE to use standardized tests as often, in the same way, or at all.
the whole article is here:

um so does this mean that you think there are peopple on this blog that just by name would not know that margaret spelling is the education secretary?

Margaret Spelling…nah. Nobody would know.
I’m gonna share my email to AAR with you, and then pop off to bed (work in the morning, yuck). I sent it to the 4 contacts PJ had listed for AAR (but *not* Danny F***ing Goldberg, thankyouverymuch)
Hello–
I am emailing you all because PJSauter at MorningSeditionists.com listed you as contacts for Air America.
I have believed in AAR since its conception, but I am no rich person, so I had no input nor contribution in what was first presented to the listening public, sparse as it first was. I have supported it as a fan, and have enjoyed listening online, because Philadelphia had no station that would reach more than 15′ from the tower.
While I originally tuned in to hear Al Franken, I became mesmerized by Randi Rhodes’s grasp of the mechanics of politics, and Mike Malloy’s passion. But the very best show of all was Morning Sedition. It was hip, humorous, and informative. Most of all, Marc Maron just oozed the anger I was feeling. But he put together a show that wasn’t about rage, but unity and optimism.
I was heart-broken when his contract wasn’t renewed. When he was offered a god-awful time slot from Los Angeles, I tried my best to stay up late (1 – 3 am here) to listen to him, and to the brilliant Jim Earl. I bolstered my listening power with a SuperPass Premium membership, so that I could podcast in the mornings. I wanted AAR to know that Marc’s show was important to me.
I am again disappointed that I can’t listen to Marc Maron in the morning. I am disappointed that AAR did not syndicate his show, and that the corporation doesn’t seem to understand Marc’s attraction. Indeed, I have been disappointed with AAR’s marketing presence in general, knowing that one has to advertise, if one’s product is to reach a wider audience.
As much as I want to hear a Morning Sedition or Marc Maron show again, I am glad that Marc won’t compromise his life just to get another show. I hope that AAR will reconsider its offers to him, and realize the jewel he and his writers have to offer “Liberal” radio.

PS I can’t tell you the last time I listened to Franken, who has become boring, and I won’t listen to Springer, whose delivery style is absolutely insulting to an intelligent, informed listener.
Susan Joy I am just running, washing, and screaming hoe/how everything this evil bush and evil administration….:fu::growl::fist::jason:
Of course they would be F@#$ing with everything,,,,,
and WE American thru 👿 bus and his evil 👿 administration :fu::growl::fist::jason:
OF COURSE F^%$ING WITH SCHOOLS — EVIL BUS AND EVEL ADM:billcat: :fu::growl::fist::jason:
#132 – good, articulate and passionate letter..agree about Marc. I do happen to still dig Al Franken, though…
Thats great Phoener! You know the worst thing? I turned on the radio the other morning in the car and before I could switch to my ipod, I heard Jerry’s substitute and wasnt too happy with him and then was really upset to hear a commercial of Jerry saying, in a very condescending tone, “Now you all be polite to my guest hosts while Im gone”…as if people arent polite to begin with. If you treat your audience like they are the lowest denominator, I guess thats what you get…but I am insulted by him in general, so I guess…whatever….
His sort of show is good for the middle of the night so all the wackos can all in….
I want them to move him and put Marc in his slot from LA…and to give marc some stock in the corporation, which will be worth nothing but will give him a stake in the future…If anyone deserves it, Marc does….he has been really loyal to the network and to his fans against all odds.
I really miss his show.
Now without Jeaneane….what a dry lineup….ugh!
Al’s show is only good when he has his co-hosts in the last hour of certain days….
Hey Druid! :pent::banana:
Oh, and one more thing…
I have a shitload of mp3’s of MS that I luckily transferred to CDs before my old harddrive died, taking my early TMMS shows with it (I now have from Apr 27 on transferred to CDs, but nothing before that). I *think* I have everything AAP had.
I’m going to bed now, really I am. Yup, I am. And I am going to dream that all the Repuglicans got kicked out of office, and the Democratic House and Senate repealed every law passed since Jan 21, 2001, and that Texas Tommy had a hissy fit and kicked and screamed until everybody pointed their fingers at him and laughed, and Dick and Rummy and Torquemada suddenly realized the horrors that their policies had inflicted upon humankind and slinked off into holes in the ground and were never heard from again. Yeah, it’s a dream.
Where were those nudie pics of Jim Earl???
Thunder and lightning and storm clouds, Oh, MY! Time to shut down and unplug the important stuff.
:shock:nudie pics of jim earl! caziness!
They said it was 116 dgrees here today but I know they LIE! It was probably 118 friggin’ degrees! But we just got some rain and this hot ass wind dried it up! :crap:
Oh, and I just checked my Inbox, and Doug Kreeger has a verification process set up to keep junk mail out of his own Inbox. Apparently my email will now be delivered since I am not a spammer or robot or scruffian of any sort. :billcat:

On July 20, “your” House of Representatives voted 410-8 in favor of Israel’s massive war crimes in Lebanon. Not content with making every American complicit in war crimes, “your” House of Representatives, according to the Associated Press, also “condemns enemies of the Jewish state.”
Who are the “enemies of the Jewish state”?
They are the Palestinians whose land has been stolen by the Jewish state, whose homes and olive groves have been destroyed by the Jewish state, whose children have been shot down in the streets by the Jewish state, whose women have been abused by the Jewish state. They are Palestinians who have been walled off into ghettos, who cannot reach their farm lands or medical care or schools, who cannot drive on roads through Palestine that have been constructed for Israelis only. They are Palestinians whose ancient towns have been invaded by militant Zionist “settlers” under the protection of the Israeli army who beat and persecute the Palestinians and drive them out of their towns. They are Palestinians who cannot allow their children outside their homes because they will be murdered by Israeli “settlers.”
The Palestinians who confront Israeli evil are called “terrorists.” When Bush forced free elections on Palestine, the people voted for Hamas. Hamas is the organization that has stood up to the Jewish state. This means, of course, that Hamas is evil, anti-semitic, un-American and terrorist. The US and Israel responded by cutting off all funds to the new government. Democracy is permitted only if it produces the results Bush and Israel want.
Israelis never practice terror. Only those who are in Israel’s way are terrorists.
PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
Beirutis are tough people and are not easily moved. But at the end of last week, many of them were overcome by a photograph in their daily papers of a small girl, discarded like a broken flower in a field near Ter Harfa, her feet curled up, her hand resting on her torn blue pyjamas, her eyes – beneath long, soft hair – closed, turned away from the camera. She had been another “terrorist” target of Israel and several people, myself among them, saw a frightening similarity between this picture and the photograph of a Polish girl lying dead in a field beside her weeping sister in 1939.
ROBERT FISK
By rounding up the Palestinian cabinet, Israel is not destroying terror, it is clipping the political wings of Hamas, those in its leadership who are quickly learning the arts of government and searching for a space in which they can negotiate with Israel. Through its rejectionist behavior, Israel is only confirming the doubts of those in the Hamas military wing who argue Israel always acts in bad faith.
Similarly in Lebanon, Israel is holding Hizbullah less to account with its attacks than the Lebanese people and their government, despite the latter’s transparently shaky grip on the country. Israel’s military strikes polarize opinion in Lebanon, weaken Fouad Siniora and his ministers, and threaten to push Lebanon over the brink into another civil war.
JONATHON COOK
You [George Bush] have turned your back on the courageous and prominent Israeli peace movement which normally reflects the positions of half of the Israeli population. You’ve never met with any of its leaders – even those in the Knesset or former officials in the military, intelligence and Justice Ministries. Hundreds of reserve combat officers and soldiers of the IDF have refused, in their words, “to fight beyond the 1967 borders to dominate, expel, starve and humiliate an entire population.” They pledged only to fight for Israel’s legitimate defense. (www.seruv.org.il/defaulteng.asp)
RALPH NADER
In a startling new development, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia has agreed to hear arguments on three claims by Pennsylvania death-row prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal that his 1982 trial and state appeal were tainted by constitutional violations.
Any one of those three claims, if upheld by the three-judge panel, could lead to a new trial for one of America’s most famous and long-standing death row prisoners, a Philadelphia-based journalist and former Black Panther activist who was convicted of the 1981 shooting murder of a white Philadelphia police officer.
The decision came as a surprise because the appellate court was only required to consider an appeal from the defense on a single guilt-phase issue-the claim that the prosecution had illegally removed qualified jurors from the case on the basis of race. That claim, while rejected in 2001 by Federal District Court Judge William Yohn, had been certified by the judge for appeal to the Third Circuit. Appellate courts do not have to even accept arguments from defense attorneys on claims that have not been certified for appeal by a lower court, so the fact that the judges agreed to accept the other two claims is a major victory for the defense. and to think…If Nader had stayed out of 2000 and 2004, maybe he wouldnt even be having to say any of that!
I hate Nader!!
And to think that if the Democrats weren’t such triangulating sellouts to POWER, Nader would not have to run.
