What a great Marc show last night. OK, I’m just guessing it was a great show; I wrote this ahead of time. A big thank you to Melina for allowing us to descend upon her home, and for putting up with us so we could go to the show. I really wish we could stay for the Comedy Central taping tonight, but we gotta get back to check on the dog, and make sure his grandparents didn’t lose him or anything.
As for today’s talking head lineup, here’s all I have:
On Press the Meat, it’s N.O. Mayor Ray Nagin, plus David Paulison of FEMA, to explain what a heckuva job their doing. Then, it’s the traitor, Count Novakula (why would you possibly have this asshole on any legitimate show; oh, that’s right, it’s Timmuh), batshit crazy Kate O’Beirne (yet another waste of air), Mr. Judy Woodruff, Al Hunt, and Eugene Robinson (presumably the WaPost coulmnist, and not the former NFL player).
Over at Faze the Nation, it’s David Paulison once again (I reckon it’ll be a Katrina kinda day all over), plus Haley Barbour (which sounds like it ought to be a hot babe, but unfortunatley is just the Republican twerp Governor of Mississippi).
On This Weak with George Snufalufagus, it’s an “exclusive” with Brownie himself, as well as Senator Mary Landrieu, plus the Federal Coordinator for Gulf Coast Rebuilding, Don Powell. Then, in possibly the only thing worth watching before the season (or is it the series?) finale of Deadwood, it’s Bill Nye the Science Guy, who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is about Pluto (no, not a cartoon character expos&eaccute;, but the Pluto formerly known as a planet).
On Fux News Sunday, weaselfaced prick (or is it prickfaced weasel?) Chrissy Wallace has Don Powell, N.O. City Council President Oliver Thomas, Senator Joe “what is it with Seantors named Joe, anyway?” Biden, and Steve Case, co-founder of AOL.
On CNN’s Late Emission, the wolfman has Nouri al-Maliki (for our neocon lurkers, that’s Iraq’s Prime Minister), falling short of Michael Powell’s record, but giving it a good run, it’s Donald Powell (again), plus the distrubingly named Dick Lugar, Carl Levin, and LA Gov., Kathleen “the Babineaux” Blanco.
Later, on 60 Minutes, it looks like a full hour of Ray Nagin, as he gives Byron Pitts (I guess 60 Minutes’ regular black guy, Ed Bradley, is on vacation or something) a tour of how the reconstruction is going in New Orleans (BTW, if you haven’t seen Spike Lee’s documentary on HBO – I’ve only gotten through Parts I & II myself – it aint real easy watching – you should see if you can get hold of it).
Then of course there is the aforementioned Deadwood finale, plus new episodes of the 4400 and the Dead Zone (or you can watch a documentary on the Military Channel – I liked it better when that was the Discovery Wings channel – about “our” guys – the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum in Watertown, NY, and who have had the privilege of being deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, and have taken their share of casualties).
Have a good Sunday.

Sean hasn’t gotten here yet .. I just went on a recon mission to figure out how to figure out how to get to the place :eek::eek::shock::shock::shock::shock:
Sean is supposed to be here tomorrow night. He’s hauling for the show that going to be at the Pavilion
ah, I see. And what did you find that you can’t recover from?
here is increasing evidence that Israel instigated a disastrous war on Lebanon largely at the behest of the United States. The Bush administration was set on crippling Hezbollah, the radical Shiite political movement that maintains a sizable block of seats in the Lebanese parliament. Taking advantage of the country’s democratic opening after the forced departure of Syrian troops last year, Hezbollah defied U.S. efforts to democratize the region on American terms. The populist party’s unwillingness to disarm its militia as required by UN resolution — and the inability of the pro-Western Lebanese government to force them to do so — led the Bush administration to push Israel to take military action.
In his May 23 summit with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, President George W. Bush offered full U.S. support for Israel to attack Lebanon as soon as possible. Seymour Hersh, in the August 21 New Yorker, quotes a Pentagon consultant on the Bush administration’s longstanding desire to strike “a preemptive blow against Hezbollah.” The consultant added, “It was our intent to have Hezbollah diminished, and now we have someone else doing it.”
Israel was a willing partner. Although numerous Israeli press reports indicate that some Israeli officials, including top military officials, are furious at Bush for pushing Olmert into war, the Israeli government had been planning the attack since 2004. According to a July 21 article in the San Francisco Chronicle, Israel had briefed U.S. officials with details of the plans, including PowerPoint presentations, in what the newspaper described as “revealing detail.” Political science professor Gerald Steinberg of Bar-Ilan University told the Chronicle that “[O]f all of Israel’s wars since 1948, this was the one for which Israel was most prepared. In a sense, the preparation began in May 2000, immediately after the Israeli withdrawal …”
Despite these preparations, the Bush administration and congressional leaders of both parties tried to present the devastating attacks, which took as many as 800 civilian lives, as a spontaneous reaction to Hezbollah’s provocative July 12 attack on an Israeli border post and its seizure of two soldiers.

The I25 traffic.. One needs to have a navigator on these missions.:shock::shock::shock::shock:
One could get killed out there..:eek::eek:
I am going to start recording that film. First, musical performancec….then….
danke Nicki :pent::sdavid:
There was some discussion last week about the SBR thinking it had to neutralize the Hezbollah capability so they would not destroy Israel when we attacked Iran.. It didn’t appear to have worked .. The multinational force that’s going to be in Lebanon might not be entirely Israel friendly either.:eek::eek:
I guess traffic is a problem…
I25 is a giant bandaid .. There isn’t any place to locate a by pass on the west side of Denver so all the north south traffic goes right though the center of the metro area..There is one place when I76 and the Boulder expressway and two city streets merge and exit . They put in like 6 lanes in both directions but two exit one direction and two some other direction and traffic just stops and waits for the first person in line to figure it all out.:shock::shock::shock::shock:
sounds messed up…I was only in Denver once and didn’t get to experience that.. I’m going to make some tea then put on some morning radio if there’s something worth streaming somewhere
Randi rerun, oh alright, something else will come on in fifteen minutes I suppose
When I go down town I usually ride the express bus. I have been able to avoid doing that since before they tore down Mile High Stadium and McNicholas arena and built Envesco field and the Pepsi center. ( all city financed boondoggles):eek::eek::shock::shock::shock:
I haven’t been there since they built those new things… yeah, I would think taking a bus would be a better idea. That’s what I do when I go into Manhattan
hmm, should I bother watching any of these morning political shows today, I wonder…

The release came shortly after the broadcast of a video in which the journalists read statements saying they have embraced Islam with the Prophet Mohammed as their leader.
The video, initially aired Sunday by Ramattan, showed Fox reporter Steve Centanni and photographer Olaf Wiig, both appearing to be in good health

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – A key U.S. legislator said in Israel on Sunday he would block aid President George W. Bush promised Lebanon and free the funds only when Beirut agreed to the deployment of international troops on the border with Syria.
“The international community must use all our available means to stiffen Lebanon’s spine and to convince the government of Lebanon to have the new UNIFIL troops on the Syrian border in adequate numbers,” said Tom Lantos, the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House of Representatives’ International Relations Committee.
Lantos said he was putting a legislative hold on Bush’s proposal to provide $230 million in aid for Lebanon in the aftermath of the 34-day war between Israel and Lebanese Hizbollah guerrillas.
As the top Democrat on the International Relations Committee, Lantos has the power to hold up legislation.

The damage done by the illegal…
…bombing and invasion of Lebanon by Israel runs well into the billions, and since we sponsored it and did nothing to stop it we ARE liable for those damages. Of course, in the ‘might makes right’ world it which we live there will be no accountability for us or Israel—at least not in the near term.
Lebanon should tell the U.S. Congress to shove their pittance $230 million insult up their collective congressional ass.

A Navajo Nation agriculture company has signed a letter of intent to sell its products to Cuba, marking New Mexico’s first agricultural agreement with the communist country.
“This is a big market out there,” said U.S. Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M. “I see this as laying the groundwork for many future trade deals with Cuba.”
The agreement was signed Tuesday in Havana, Cuba, between the Navajo Agricultural Products Industry and Cuba’s state food-purchasing agency, Alimport.
Udall and NAPI general manager Tsosie Lewis were among a group of people who traveled to Cuba earlier this week to negotiate potential purchases from New Mexico. The two met with Pedro Álvarez Borrego, chairman and chief executive of Alimport, over three days.

CNN) — All 50 people aboard a Delta commuter flight that crashed near Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday morning are feared dead, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown told CNN.
A report from The Associated Press, however, said one person survived and is in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Hospital.
There were 47 passengers and three crew members on Delta Flight 5191 — operated by Delta’s commuter carrier, Comair — which was en route from Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Brown said.
The plane crashed a mile from the airport shortly after take-off, the Federal Aviation Administration said. .
Comic relief
Making the incipient homosexuality in superhero comics more visible has prompted a backlash far more complex than the one faced by comic books in the 1950s
BY MICHAEL BRONSKI
SOMETIME AT THE END of next month, Terry Berg, a young gay man, will be horribly attacked by three men and left for dead in an alley. He will be discovered by his friend and boss, the cartoonist Kyle Rayner, who vows revenge against the queer bashers. This Matthew Shepard–like story is already making headlines, with coverage in the New York Times and discussion on Donahue. But the issue under debate isn’t violence against gay people, it’s the appearance of gay characters in comic books: Terry and Kyle are major characters in the strip Green Lantern.
Predictably, the right-wing, anti-gay Family Research Council (FRC) condemned the new comic book (as well as the entire plot line that began last April with Terry coming out to Kyle, the mild-mannered cartoonist who leads a double life as the Green Lantern and derives extraordinary powers come from his magical emerald ring). Less predictable, however, is the fact that many Green Lantern readers have chimed in with their displeasure with, and in some cases hostility to, this turn in the plot. If the backlash to the new gay themes in Green Lantern feels sort of retro, though, that’s because it is. The public pronouncements of the FRC are a complete replay of the anti-comic-book hysteria that gripped the country in 1954, when the publication of Fredric Wertham’s best-selling Seduction of the Innocent (Rinehart & Company) “exposed” the dangerous sexual subtexts of comic books and prompted Senate subcommittee hearings on juvenile delinquency. The negative reaction among Green Lantern readers, however, is an unexpected twist — one perhaps more shocking in these allegedly more-sophisticated times than the appearance of queer comic-book characters themselves.

Apparently, looting continued long after Rummy told us they were stealing the same vase over and over. From the Washington Post this morning:
“There was a lot of attention paid to the looting of the museum the very same days the war started,” Gibson said. “It hasn’t stopped. There has been looting of sites on an industrial scale. Some of the greatest Sumerian sites have gone.”
http://tinyurl.com/rrrga
morning sheeple……didnt sleep much…something about birds and dogs wanting food….the nerve of them!
Sue- I always come back to Rummy standing there saying in that condescending tone “Freedom is messy” or some such….we were talking last night abot how America really could have gone in gotten things right in order and gotten the electricity up and supplies in, and it wold have struck a blow to whatever it was they were trying to prevent over there…but they pruposely destabilized the country and the region…and it seems that all thats left is some sorta big picture view of what it is really all about. And horrible as it seems, there is a good chance that the later looting by the hallioburton subsidiaries and their ilk may be just it…is that possible? and if so, isnt it a crime against humanity?…or maybe just barbaric human nature with the sheeple too busy watching blue collar comedy to even notice until they cant pay the oil bill.
the 3[4567]trillion $ ?
stoned or stupid?
did bushco seek chaos in iraq [so they could steal it all as per randi r]
or are they so besotted in their arrogant self-love that they believe their own self serving fantasies?
how bout stoned and stupid — the latest evidence: we push israel to attack lebanon to weaken iran…
israel does badly, looks nearly as thuggish as the u.s., and further unites the islamic world….
once more, bush is a uniter AGAINST US & BRITAIN & ISRAEL. wow. I wonder what clever plan they’ll come up with next.
then again, maybe they’re looking stupid on purpose, so we’ll let down our guard?
Good morning Melina. I hope that you had a great time last night and I’m looking forward to hearing about it.
As for the chaos in Iraq, I have to agree with Randi. It was purposeful because it allowed the rethugs to steal. This whole misadventure seems to be a way for Chaney Inc. to make money. In fact, I think the reason they fought so hard not to have enough troops is because they wanted an excuse to hire contractors.
good article, Cnick (about comics and gay characters). Just started a topic recently on another mailing list about media portrayals of gay characters, so I’m going to forward this, thanks.

Experts warn U.S. is coming apart at the seams
By Chuck McCutcheon
Newhouse News Service
WASHINGTON — A pipeline shuts down in Alaska. Equipment failures disrupt air travel in Los Angeles. Electricity runs short at a spy agency in Maryland.
None of these recent events resulted from a natural disaster or terrorist attack, but they may as well have, some homeland security experts say. They worry that too little attention is paid to how fast the country’s basic operating systems are deteriorating.
“When I see events like these, I become concerned that we’ve lost focus on the core operational functionality of the nation’s infrastructure and are becoming a fragile nation, which is just as bad — if not worse — as being an insecure nation,” said Christian Beckner, a Washington analyst who runs the respected Web site Homeland Security Watch (www.christianbeckner.com).

I wish I could remember a scenario my sister read and memorized as an example of how complex our society is. it went something like: if the phone company stopped collecting coins from pay phones in san francisco [and they could hold an infinite amt], in 2 or 3 days s.f. would run out of quarters, in a week, calif would be out and in a few weeks the country would be sans quarters. stop the flow of anything and we’re in deep doodoo.

Hey all. Had a nice time with Sean yesterday but when I got home my dog Jane was not moving or getting up and when I put my hand under her head she yelped. So me and my friend took her to the vet and she was euthanized. I got her from the humane society 13 years ago today after someone broke into my house to aussault me. I got away. I’m like Batman w/o Robyn, the Skipper w/o Gilligan. I’m gonna miss her so much, especially since she was underfoot all the time. I think she did that on purpose. 🙁 😥 😥
Sorry to hear about your dog, Kristapea.
Dogs are loyal creatures and will never let you down. Not like ppl.
Kristapea…I am so sorry for you..Sweet Jane :(:(
Take care of yourself dear one.
:(:(:(
So sorry to hear of your loss, Kristapea. So very sorry.
I think hubby’s trying to talk me out of our going tonight! There are severe weather warnings for the area, including tornado watch! :growl:
Last time we had heavy rains, we got water in the basement. :growl:
Oh Krista…I cant tell you how sad it makes me to hear of your loss. There is nothing that can make it better but time eases it…and you had so many great years together.
There is nothing like the loyalty and love of a dog…..and you just dont get over their passing that easily….but be happy about her life and allow yourself room for grief….and just be kind to yourself.
Part of the reason that I have birds now is that dogs dont live long enough!…and Ive got the kind who live a long time because they are small.
I still miss Coco….but she is always here in my heart and then oddly in her urn on the TV….and Will and I sometimes talk to her (crazy, huh?…and Ive still got 5 other dogs!)
And my RIPCoco sort of addresses the part of me thats gone because she was with me through the most tranformational years of my life…and made alot of it possible, IMO….plus she was a tough little character who took no shit.
Hang on to Jane’s spirit that remains in you and what she gave you….she had a great and happy life.
Mr FearOfHeights is going out on the roof to make sure the gutters are clear.
sblue- the workin it show sorta sucks because of the hostess (who I personally just dont like…she is too up or something…shes got that Rachel Maddow loopy thing going on…) but the one brilliant thing she did was to use Pashman on air to chat with her in the first segment. I dont know if she does that every show, but anyone who works with Brendan and/or Pashman and doesnt use them on air at least a bit is a fool, IMO.
I have a bit of what went on last night on my blog, RIPCoco, with a link upwards to the right on this page (better viewed in Firefox if you want the sidebar and the pic…I believe that the pic and sidebar go to the bottom in IE)…more to follow tonight Im sure as PJ and RG get homewards (though they just left now in the pouring rain…anfter we sat and gabbed for a good long time.)…and yes, Im going tonight but am gonna try to catch a nap.
Sweetie Marc has arranged for Will to get in as a VIP, so we will be seated somewheres off camera.
anyone who sees me, please come and say hi!! My pic is on my blog and thats what I look like more or less, plus alot of height…Im almost 6 ft in my biker boots…..
Phoener…hate to tell you but I had watewr in the basement yesterday and I expect that I have it now too….and I just had a sump pump put in that makes no sense because its not near where the water goes…..hmmmm….
We’ll see how bad this gets but I really want to go….

Thanks you guys. :gate:
So, The Red Handed team got excellent local coverage on the news last night. We protested JD Hayworth where he was addressing a bunch of bikers about immigration. We were there to protest his voting on veterans benefits and we got our message on the teevee. When they were showing Hayworth speaking, you could totally hear our chanting in the background. And our spokesperson got our talking points on the air with the facts and everything. I can really see the benefits of staying on message, it really worked yesterday. Plus, the bikers could hardly argue it. A couple of them came over and we had a nice chat and handed out some fact sheets. Hayworth will be in Tempe Tuesday night and we will be there also. :fist:
Totally Off Topic:
Does anyone here recall an astrology site (that I used to have bookmarked on my now-dead computer) that had handy-dandy lists of outer planet aspects, and of every year they occurred? It was a self-named site, and I thought the guy’s name was Dunne or something. The first name that comes to mind is Jonathan Dunne, but I don’t know what orifice I pulled that name out of. I probably have the first name all wrong, and the last name is probably a similar sequence of vowels and consonants. :smack:
If that shrink tells me I don’t have AD/HD, I’m gonna bop him.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced the forthcoming Mexican revolution, on the front page of La Jornada of August 24, 2006. He said that as of September 12 there will be two presidents of Mexico. On TV local channel 11 last night, he amended that to September 16. A small detail. It’s on…
…Unless the Election Committee unexpectedly decides to somehow avert the chaos sure to result if Felipe Calderón is crowned. How about if the court annuls 4,000 precincts and declares AMLO the winner?
I never wanted to be a war correspondent when I grew up.
Here in Oaxaca, dirty war already cruises the streets, and it is due only to the non-violent posture of the Popular Assembly of the People of Oaxaca (APPO in its Spanish initials) that the death toll remains relatively low. But the list of dead, wounded, abducted and disappeared grows daily, aided with a website called Oaxaca en paz (“Oaxaca in Peace,” operated with government support, according to claims by the APPO) advising free-lance killers who to shoot and where to locate them – a hit list.

Thanks Fred. I’m going to keep some of her hair in case I ever get an opportunity to clone her. Or do you need live tissue?
Tomorrow’s podcast will include my conversation with the blogs very own Druid. Surf to my podcast page tomorrow evening to give a listen. It was wonderful talking to Druid. I think you’ll find the conversation fascinating listening.
yay Druid 🙂 :pent:
That’s a poser, Kristapea. There’s certainly DNA in her hair, but hair is technically dead cells. I have enough hair here for thousands of Baileys (our Golden/Lab mix) if that’ll work. The world would be a much better place with so many of our beloved dogs.
Yup, the weather definitely looks better. Not perfect, but it’ll do. Hubby’s napping for the long drive, so I’m off to get ready. I’ll look for you, Melina.

HOLY SHIT! (Are atheists allowed to say that?) It’s a good thing I took a dump before I saw this. I haven’t seen a weather report since last night. On the bright side, I was watching some sort of NFL preview thing earlier and the station wasn’t running any weather warnings, so I guess we’re OK for today.
FK, thanks for the offer. I have relatives inland I can stay with if Ernesto hits here. The last track I saw had it tending east, so for all I know if it keeps going that way it may end up landing around the same place Charley hit two years ago. Which would suck for them.
The one giggle I’m getting out of this is that the guy who heads up St. Pete For Peace, the group that holds the bi-weekly protests downtown, is named Chris Ernesto. Hurricane, indeed.
:rofl2:
Krista, sorry to hear about Jane. Our dog passed away when I was in high school, so I kinda know what you’re going through, and it sucks. We need an emoticon for a hug. I’ll have to owe you one.

so sorry, kristapea. some companion animal deaths are harder than others. nature’s a real bitch goddess sometimes.

now that would be heaven.
Thanks, Roxie. Some sites are really dumbed-down, others are “astrologers’ astrology.”
BTW, Kristapea, Jane isn’t all that far away from you right now. If you open your heart, and try to connect to hers, no matter where she is physically right now, you’ll know she’s okay. Trust your imagination on this one.

Hey Shemansky! These are the 2 films:
“I just saw 2 really great French Situationist International films, both masterpieces of detournement, made in the 70s but newly
translated/subtitled to English by Keith Sanborn.
The first is Guy Debord’s follow-up to his “Society of the
Spectacle” [This the first one], called “Refutations of All Judgements” [The second], in which he savagely lambasts anyone who didn’t like the first film, and even some who did. A dense and clever collage of images and voices and pointed barbs. “Cinema specialists criticized my film for being bad politics. politicals
criticized it for being bad cinema.”
sounds fascinating…I’m trying to find out what situationism is right now, I’m starting to get an idea finally after almost a half hour of googling…
Situationism is something that, in order to understand it, requires “doing it,” along with intellectualizing about it. Praxis. Detournement. Derive. Psychogeographical mapping.
:omg:
I just found the text of the book online
it’s what we were talking about the other day; people who don’t participate in life but just consume. They don’t actively create anything
I don’t get it
i’m watching all the cable news and weather channels I can find – no footage from haiti or jamaica??
Theory of the Dérive
One of the basic situationist practices is the dérive,(1) a technique of rapid passage through varied ambiences. Dérives involve playful-constructive behavior and awareness of psychogeographical effects, and are thus quite different from the classic notions of journey or stroll.
In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period drop their relations, their work and leisure activities, and all their other usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there. Chance is a less important factor in this activity than one might think: from a dérive point of view cities have psychogeographical contours, with constant currents, fixed points and vortexes that strongly discourage entry into or exit from certain zones.
But the dérive includes both this letting-go and its necessary contradiction: the domination of psychogeographical variations by the knowledge and calculation of their possibilities. In this latter regard, ecological science, despite the narrow social space to which it limits itself, provides psychogeography with abundant data.
The ecological analysis of the absolute or relative character of fissures in the urban network, of the role of microclimates, of distinct neighborhoods with no relation to administrative boundaries, and above all of the dominating action of centers of attraction, must be utilized and completed by psychogeographical methods. The objective passional terrain of the dérive must be defined in accordance both with its own logic and with its relations with social morphology.
we’re off….check you all later…thank god I napped!

Kristapea, Dear Lover of Friend (pet),
Remember her spirit is with you and as says in an ancient Tibetan belief — if one travels with you, one always travels with you, in one incarnation or another. As a believer in spirit, I also say she is now a watching spirit companion forever. (I “see” therefore I know and demand PROOF since most cannot see who spiritually travels with one — although they may have other talents.) One person I believed could truly “see” sent a message to me to confirm what she saw — a wolf on one side of me and a black cat on the other side. (Now I have probably a cavalcade of colours of ex-strays around me too.) Therefore, this is another confirmation that the Spirit of Jane is with you.
Also, simple analytics — Energy does not die:!:
Many religions say honour the dead for a year or a year and a day. But it is very simple, just talk to her how you miss and love  her when the sorrow cycles around and when the happiness cycles around. She is in a better space and it is only we who are still living that miss the space here they once filled.
There is also a great importance of a good Irish Wake. (It got me through many a death by raising a toast to the departed and meeting with friends to express the sorrows and remembering the happiness.) Come to think of it THIS PLACE IS A FORM OF THE ANCIENT IRISH TRADITIONAL WAKE:!:
Talk to her, this time approaching the season where the “veil” is thin between the realms. She is sending to you.
:pent: :knit: :gate: Blessings
In detournement, an artist reuses elements of well-known media to create a new work with a different message, often one opposed to the original. The term “detournement”, borrowed from the French, originated with the Situationist International; a similar term more familiar to English speakers would be “turnabout”, although this term is not used in academia and the arts world.
Detournement is similar to satirical parody, but employs more direct reuse or faithful mimicry of the original works rather than constructing a new work which merely alludes strongly to the original. It may be contrasted with recuperation, in which originally subversive works and ideas are themselves appropriated by mainstream media.
I think I remember that phrase being used at the dada exhibit I just saw at MOMA. Cool. It seems to be related to that movement too.
Situationist theory is easy to vulgarize. The SI was a revolutionary group, whose ultimate goal was to bring down the advanced capitalist nations while freeing things up to allow the working people to create a new, free society.
working:tongue: and lurking here (a wee bit):hubba:
they were interested in working on freeing people, not just bringing down one political system and replacing it with another. They were interested in making it a better world for people truly. That’s what I’m getting by skimming this.

We also ventured through to the little garden at the back of this hall. As we walked down into the town we tried to take a photograph of the rose which adorned the centre of a square outside the magistrates court. A policeman promptly came out and informed us that it fell within an area in which photography was banned.
Situationist International: Very left Marxists. Anti-stalinist. Close in theory to anarcho-syndicalists. Check out the Council Communists.
Unpack that politically. Photographing of nature is now a crime. Oh yeah, private property. Or is it a security concern? Totalitarian security concern.
We’re on the NJ Turnpike and up to our eyeballs in traffic. Don’t know if we’ll even get to the taping in time. 🙁
LES CAYES, Haiti — Ernesto was downgraded to a tropical storm Sunday afternoon but the Miami-based hurricane center it was expected to strengthen again and potentially reclaim hurricane status before reaching the southeastern coast of Cuba Monday morning. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch for the entire Florida Keys — and warned further watches could soon be posted for other parts of the state. Visitors were ordered to leave the Keys on Sunday and Gov. Jeb Bush issued a state of emergency.

I don’t know, it’s possible. I don’t think he knew I was picking anything. I think they just thought I was crazy for stopping to look at plants. I’ve had other people actually tell me that when I was young.

:cake::cake:It’s my BIRTHDAY!!!:cake::cake:
I ended up NOT going to NYC for Maron’s show (very sad about that) but stayed in Chi-town to help all the squeaky clean new freshmen move into their dorms. Did it partially to help and the rest of the time to be around people ALL DAY who were socially obliged to wish me a happy B-Day. Sometimes I LOVE peer pressure and people’s willingness to follow.
Once school starts up, I’m going to be putting together some more “Marc Maron and Jim Earl on AAR” Wakes. Not sure when it’ll be but I’ll make sure to let everyone know. Hope things are going great with everyone!
p.s. Does anyone have the idea in the very BACK of their minds that FOX saw how much press Jill Carrol and the CSM was getting from her series detailing her abduction and decided to have their reporter & cameraman abducted for the PR and the ratings?
p.p.s. Yes, I know this makes me a slightly bad person but I’ve got a lot of good karma to balance it out.
In May 2004, MTA New York City Transit proposed the first major changes to its Rules of Conduct for subway and bus riders in about a decade.
The NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign is sympathetic with the goal of making the subways safer, but we object to the proposed rule that would completely ban taking photographs, film or video in the subways and on buses with limited exceptions.
We respect the need for security in the transit system, but believe there are important values in having photographers document life and conditions on the subways and buses.
Derive decription:
Permit yourself to drift from what you are reading at this very moment into another situation, another way of acting within the historical and psychic geographies in which the event of your own reading is here and now taking place; here and now taking the place of other ways of making passionate and energetic connections between us. Imagine a situation that, in all likelihood, you’ve never been in. Imagine that you are sitting in a movie theater with me watching the sixth and final film of Guy Debord. Imagine, that as you and I gaze upon the screen of flickering electronic images our eyes meet those of another cinema audience. The other audience is staring fixedly in a perfect reverse shot at the screened image that you and I are becoming. Who are you? What or who are you becoming? What about me? What are our material relations to each other, to ourselves, and to others in history? What historical epoch is it that we are both within and ceaselessly remaking in some ways, but not other ways? When you think of the comfort and/or the anxious disdain you are feeling, sitting here with me in this theater, what other images cross the flesh of your mind? What if you’re not happy with these images? What if you sense, perhaps beyond words, that this situation which I am asking you to imagine is but a filmic preface to a more complex, dangerous, and seductive situation – a situation demanding the pleasures and also the risks of revolting historical actions?
Loosen up. Have a drink. A devilish voice layers itself upon the images we are watching, as we pass together through a rather brief moment of time. It is the voice of Guy Debord. The voice declares: “I will make no concession to the public in this film… This public, so completely deprived of freedom, and which has put up with everything, deserves less than any other to be spared. The manipulators of advertising, with the traditional cynicism of those who know that people are inclined to justify insults which they do not avenge, calmly announce today that ‘when you love life, you go to the cinema’.”
Now the images before our eyes are changing. First we find ourselves surveying a large complex of standardized houses. Neatly separated houses. Neatly boring, neatly standardized houses for a standardizing culture: the architectural packaging of an intensely commodified culture. Then we observe a modern employee in her bath, with her young son. Something appears missing in this picture – something that haunts the cinematic framing of this very movie. Tracking shot towards a bed adorning the same room. Cut to a long line of people waiting patiently outside the entrance of a cinema. Perhaps they are waiting to watch the very film that you and I this very moment are watching. Perhaps, in order to watch this film, these patiently waiting in line people are calmly, and in an excessively civilized fashion, handing over their national/transnational New World Citizen ID cards to be scanned by a remote Prop 187 culture data input module. Waiting in line. Waiting on line. What’s the difference? One thing is for sure – these people are waiting; endlessly, patiently waiting. This is life. This is cinema. . .

(May 23, 2005) – A New York City Transit proposal last year to make a rule change that would prohibit photography and videotaping in subways and bus systems, which was strongly opposed by the NPPA and many other photography, press, civil rights, and free speech groups, is now dead, and a 12-year-old ban on photography on public beaches and parks in the Town of Hempstead, Long Island, has been overturned.

Ernesto update: The chief meteorlogist at my sister-in-law’s station tracks Ernesto through Haiti and over the mountains of central Cuba, where it is expected to weaken and scatter even more than it already has. It’s too early to really get a handle on exactly where it’s going once it passes out of Cuba, which will probably happen Monday night.
Home Depot and Lowe’s were both packed today, which I guess is good, although these folks really should have bought this stuff back in June rather than waiting until now.
Right now the track for FL landfall is anywhere from the Panhandle, all the way down the west coast and even around to Miami and the lower east coast. Again, we’ll have a better idea by tomorrow night.
As for me, I have :40:, TP, batteries and reading material, so if hunkering down becomes necessary, I’m all set. Hopefully we won’t need to flee, but should it become necessary, I’m ready for that too.

Well, let’s see…. Fortunately, Melina was kind enough to drive into the city, and we stopped off to meet her grandad, which was a big thrill, because he’s a radio pioneer (and somebody whose work we’re big fans of), and it was a real honor to meet him.
Then we drove drove over to the Gotham Comedy Club, where somebody had apparently reserved a parking spot on the street right across from the club for us. We had a drink in the lounge downstairs before heading up, and they gave us a table about an inch from the stage. At the table behind us was Kent Jones. The emcee guy interacted with us, asking Melina where she was from, and asking my wife if that thing on the table was a “recording device.” No, no, no, of course not (one thing living with me has taught her is how to lie with a straight face).
The first comedian wasn’t bad. Can’t recall his name, but he wasn’t bad. The second person on was Marc, and if you’ve been listening to him every day for a few years as we all have, you’re pretty familiar with his set. Even so, he was by far the hightlight of the night – both for us, and for the whole room. I won’t go into what jokes he did, or how great he was, ‘cuz y’all know. Suffice it to say, he was fantastic, and funny, and genuine, and it was great to see him. The only regret I have is that we’d all ordered a mess of food, which they saw fit to drag out during his set, and directly in front of him. Sorry, Marc.
So, Marc was great, and then the “headliner,” Harland Williams, came out. He pretty much sucked (especially in comaprison to Marc), and isn’t really worth mentioning.
On the way out, we got to say hello to Marc and Brendon (because Melina went up them), and Marc was kind enough to take a picture of me up on stage with him (as soon as I crop myself out, I’ll post it – though the four my wife took with the lens cap on came out quite good).
So, Marc appreciates us all, here, and has been looking at getting something else going, but mostly has been busy getting his standup “chops” back, and working toward taping his special.
All-in-all, it was a great weekend, thanks to Melina and Marc, and we all had a great time (especially Reuben, who not only got to meet a radio legend, but got to interact with both Marc and this other crappy comedian).
Hurry up and crop the picture, PJ!

Sleepy time. Some of us have to work in the morning. 😉
anybody home?
what are the plans for bushco’s visit to NOLA on tuesday?
i’m sure he’ll be well insulated but there must be some serious protests planned. I wonder if they’ll make the nightly news.
I just came back from the NYC comedy central taping. Marc totally rocked, as usual.
He used a joke I’d never heard before. What if Jesus had lived longer and there was a third testament? It would include a story where this older Jesus is caught up to his knees in water, saying,
“Damn! I used to be able to do this!”
And the only remaining apostle would be like, “Hey, dude. It’s cool. Let’s take a break, relax, and we’ll come back and try this again tomorrow.”
He also let loose one about every time he sees Cheney on TV talking, he thinks he sees the serpent try to sneak out of his mouth and crawl back in his ear. And he imagines the republicans saying,
“It’s happening again, only , this time, it’s in public.Get him outa here…”
No Butch the cat jokes, so, I was bummed. He said he had a new part time job: Filling his ipod. He re-did the joke about listening to the ipod on the subway instead of doing what you’re supposed to do: Make a list of all your failures in life.
He ended with a riff about our addiction to technology and cell phones. He said if he leaves the house without the phone, he can’t function, remember anything he’s supposed to do, anyone’s number or where he lives. He said, “But, the sattelite doesn’t know where I am!”
He kept ripping a guy in the front row who wouldn’t laugh at him. That was funny.
It’s gonna air on comedy central. I think they said it would be the first show of the season, but I’m not sure. If you haven’t seen him live, don’t miss it. He’s even better on camera than radio.
At one point he was talking about how we applaud for him, and said. “I guess that’s unconditional love, isn’t it?” and the audience exploded. He had us right from his entrance, and said that all our cheering would make him cry.
Well, you made us laugh, as usual, Marc, and for that, yes, you do have our unconditional love.
BTW, Marc, I was the woman in the top row balcony stage right in the red sweater. I saw you in new jersey last year. I won’t make it on camera but it was great having a good view from the front row. You’re the best!
Get a TV sit com, PLEASE!
We love you!

Gosh, I am being fantasized about. It is a bit religious and anti-woman, being BONDED by my wrists and feet (I keep forgetting about the feet) on a symbol of a cross.
Although … :hubba: :growl:
That does it, I am writting Madonna:!: 😉
(I am still waiting for the Police FORCING them to write a hate crime report.) Feedback Please…
exhausted and going to sleep…and will blog about the fantastic show tomorrow, though Ive written some of it up.
Very nice of Marc to put us on the VIP list and we were in a special section because Will couldnt be on camera because he is underage and the language…oh my!
But it was good to see Brendan again and he and his g’friend said Hi to me. …I didnt hang out long after because it was already 11 and Will has had a long day…not to mention me!
It was a fantastic show and he had more time that he did at Gotham so there was much more there….
and I must say that I laughed just as hard the second night in a row.
The funny thing is that we were seated by the board and the board and tech guys were pretty stoic during the first comic who was much better than Harlan crapola from the night before, but Marc came out and they were stoic at first but ended up laughing hysterically, along with the camera guys who were trying to keep it steady and even the MC who came out to watch right by me and was laughing hysterically.I looked over at Brendan who is usually chewing gum and looking at things with a critical (though he looks like a little boy to me) eye, and by the end as Marc was really workign with the audience he was hysterical too!
Marc is really good…and he did a good thing by getting Will in.
After the last few moths that Will has had, it was good to see him laughing hysterically.
I made friends with a conedy central person who told me that this particular show was the one that everyone at CC was saying to see…that it was gonna be great….and it was.
What a mistake AAR has made.
Sorry I missed any of you I missed. I was in a gold sweater over blank tank and Jeans, and Will was in his usual Spaghetti MOnster T and Brooklyn Sweatshirt. We just really had to run and get some water and the car and head home…..
More tomorrow sheeple….
Oh and the backdrop was a huge black and white of a herd of sheep…and he had a lifelike stuffed sheep on wheels that they were wheeling back and forth before Marc came out, but who stood along the side….
He didnt say Sheeple, but it was implied most definitley.
I wouldnt like to see marc ina sitcom, but more a commentary show like David Spade has on showbiz, maybe he could do life and politics….more edgy than Jon S and Colbert.
Mom said that they were fantastic on the Emmys BYW, but that my guy, Leary didnt win best actor…of course….its gonna be all Keifer all the time till his contract runs out ….but he deserves it too.
Very, very strange-creepy thanks for the update..be very careful :omg:
G i joe? Yikes..Your message got cut off and no number to call back. I guess the phone was vibrating on the bed:omg:

No formal canonization has ever taken place, but her name is in the Roman Martyrology and her feast is celebrated in the Dioceses of Speyer, Mainz, Trier, and Limburg, also in the Abbey of Solesmes, where a proper office is said (Brev. Monast. Tornac., 18 Sept.). When the convent on the Rupertsberg was destroyed in 1632 the relics of the saint were brought to Cologne and then to Eibingen. At the secularization of this convent they were placed in the parish church of the place

The Portland Art Museum, built in 1933, was designed by noted Portland architect Pietro Belluschi. Northwest art collection.
In the park block to the north is what is known as the Shemanski Fountain, named after merchant Joseph Shemanski, who commissioned it in 1926. Made of cast stone, it serves as a pedestal for the dainty bronze statue of Rebecca at the Well. She was the Biblical character who drew water for the camels of Abraham’s servants. Her compassion for animals inspired the three pet-level drinking fountains. There are also three people-level fountains.
Shemanski was not the only Portland businessman who wanted to slake Portlanders’ thirst. Along Salmon Street there is a plaque commemorating Simon Benson, lumberman and philanthropist. Standing before the plaque is a four-bowled, bronze fountain, known as a Benson Bubbler. In 1912 Benson commissioned 20 of the fountains, which he donated to the city. There are currently 60 Benson Bubblers located throughout Portland.
