Well, after a week and change off, I’m back at my desk at work this morning (after a visit to the dentist first thing – another $100+ down the drain). I’m not very happy to be here, but at least I have the Internet. It’s been pretty sucky to be without it. Hopefully that will all change tomorrow when they’re supposed to come and hook up cable and the Internet. Just when I found the best position for my OTA antenna, too. I’m actually pretty pleased with it (there are a lot of channels out there that I wasn’t getting before), and am wondering if paying for cable might not be kind of stupid. But, what the hell, it’s only money, and by tomorrow evening, I’ll be able to watch all those exciting cable “news” election returns as the GOP takes over the House and maybe even the Senate. Not that they don’t actually already have control of the Senate, of course (at least in terms of being able to prevent anything from passing), but this will give them power to set the agenda, run the committees, and have subpoena power (which I once was excited about the Democrats having, “ooh, just imagine Waxman and Conyers with subpoena power, now we’ll see some changes!”).
President Hopey Changey will of course bend over backwards to pass whatever the Republicans come up with (in the spirit of bipartisanship), and Republicans will cry about the Democrats do-nothing partisanship over any vote that isn’t unanimous, while looking like the party that “gets things done.”
Oh, it’s gonna be great.
The return of my Internet, however, I’m somewhat less than optimistic about. It’s supposed to happen, but for reasons I don’t feel like typing, I guess I’ll just take a wait and see. Don’t be surprised if I’m unable to post anything again tomorrow.
Snowed like crazy for a while last night. Didn’t totally cover the grass, but there was an appreciable amount on the ground. There was even still some on the roof when I left this morning (and snow on the way in, too). :cold: Not quite ready for winter, but, well, it’s November, and anything can happen now.
Oh well, just thought I’d check in while I had the chance, but I better get some work done.
Hope y’all are having a good Monday.

PJ, you have been missed. As you can see we carried on as best we could without you, but it just ain’t the same. Now we’re going to have to face a disgusting election without any cyber hand holding. I think tomorrow night I am going to go to bed very early. Whatever happens the Times will be only too glad to tell me in the morning. But First, I’ll distribute some lit for Working Families at the poll.
OKat, I’m glad Mr. FK is home and safe, if only for a short time. (It’s interesting that will you have become an OKat while he is still an FK.) As for peace I’ve been told it’s a great thing, all my life. It seems, though, that there are too many others who think otherwise and who don’t seem to learn from experience.
I voted at 7 AM on the Working Families Line. I was the first voter in my election district. There are 5 ED’s at my polling place. ED’s are small geographic areas. In Red Hook they take in lots of area where there are no homes so there aren’t that many people in mine.
Then I stood on a corner and attempted to give out literature for the WFP. I got 2 voters in an hour. Finally, the cold got me and I decided to give up until later when it’s warmer and there will be more people.
On a good note the election workers seemed more knowledgeable. Unfortunately there were 2 propositions which were printed on the back of the ballot. Unless someone had listened carefully and read the end of news stories he would not have known to turn the ballot over and, as in the primary, the print was ridiculously small. Worst of all there is no confirmation, once that ballot has been scanned, that you voted for the folks you intended. The screen simply says “Thank you for voting.” Sought of like my microwave that says “Enjoy your meal,” after I’ve heated a cup of coffee.
God Bless America!

I have my permanent absentee ballot sitting here on my desk. It has been filled out for about a month. I just have to drop it off at a polling place. I was waiting to see if Meg or Carly would just pay me straight up for my vote but I haven’t heard yet so I guess I stick with Jerry and Barbara. I’ve always liked Jerry and Barbara, but money talks.
:blech: my absentee ballot stuff got screwed up this year so no vote for the rent is too damn high guy from me
:rant1: motherfucker! my mom voted for paladino :spank:
Congrats to the Giants and to San Fran. I hope that bodes well for Nancy and Barb (and prop 19).
I made the 30 minute schlep to the old neighborhood to vote there one last time. All WFP except for Howie the Green Guy. Washer/Dryer installed (and first load done). Now just waiting for cable and Internet. Hopefully I’ll be done with this thumb typing shit soon.
